Chapter 2

Autor: Egg Yolk
Joe begged my mother, pleading with my mother until his voice became hoarse, but my mother was not moved. "Let her out? Not so easily. Didn't you just say that life is not worth living, Joe? I'll make an example of Janine for you to see so you can judge for yourself whether it's better to live or to die!

"Watch her for 24 hours and not an hour less! I want your gratitude to me ingrained into the very core of your soul!"

The oxygen in the coffin started to thin as I struggled. I tried taking in deep breaths, but started wheezing from my asthma instead. I felt despair when I realized I could never escape by myself. If I could not get out, it would not be long before I died in this coffin.

I stopped scratching the inside of the coffin and started slamming hard against the coffin walls instead, while making weak attempts to call for help. "Joe… Help me… It's so dark in here…"

My voice echoed in the dark basement, and Joe went crazy with anxiousness. He suddenly stood up and tried to break the lock.

"What are you doing?!" My mother pulled Joe away when she saw what he was doing, and she started crying when she saw his palm bleeding. "You're just hurting me, Joe! Who do you think I'm doing all this for? I'm an education expert. Would I harm you?"

My mother wiped away her tears and said threateningly, "Go sit in the corner right now and write a five-thousand-word essay reflecting on your behavior! I won't let your sister out if you don't finish it!"

"Mom…"

"Start writing now!"

I could hear Joe’s despairing voice outside the coffin, along with the rustling of pen on paper. I lost all hope. There was no more oxygen inside the coffin and I started to hallucinate. It felt like millions of bugs were gnawing into my limbs in the dark and all I could do was lie down inside the coffin with my mouth helplessly agape.

When I stopped struggling inside the coffin, I finally felt the intense pain coming from my broken fingernails, which were hurt from all the scratching. I started convulsing and could only allow the pain to agitate my dulling brain.

That was when I heard a huge crash. The door to the scary basement was kicked open.

"Are you crazy, Sharon?" My father's anxious voice was heard. "I thought something didn't feel right, and I wouldn't have found this godforsaken place if not for the GPS on Joe's phone."

He hurried to the coffin and started slamming it. "Janine! Can you hear me, Janine?"

I no longer had the strength to answer. All I could do was open and close my mouth like a fish on land.

"She lost consciousness! Sharon, that coffin is made of pure wood and doesn't have any ventilation. You're murdering our daughter!"

My mother pushed him away and spread out her arms protectively in front of the coffin to stop him from coming forward. "Go away, Edward! Our children turned out this way because of your weak and unprincipled character. Your son was just talking about dying, and I'm trying to save his life! As for Janine… I'm an education expert. Do you think I have no limits? There is ventilation underneath the coffin."

Ventilation? Hah!

I had felt all around the coffin when I was struggling earlier. There were a few holes beneath the coffin, but they had been sealed with duct tape.

My father looked at the ugly expression on my mother's face and decided not to waste his time talking to her. He reached into her pockets forcefully to search for the key.

Meanwhile, my soul floated to the other side of the real world. I saw Joe give up the plan my mother had arranged for him, where he was supposed to enter the financial industry with glory. He started working hard to retake his exams and managed to get into the country's leading university in medicine to specialize in respiratory critical care.Several years later, he started interning in the hospital's emergency room. A little girl with a serious case of claustrophobia, which triggered a serious asthmatic reaction, was brought in as she was in critical condition.Joe's eyes turned red from trying to hold back tears, and he used everything he learned to help the little girl fight for life. He managed to perform endotracheal intubation on her, and she was saved from the brink of death as her blood oxygen levels slowly increased. He watched as the little girl sobbed in her parents' arms after regaining consciousness, and he quietly hid himself at the end of the corridor outside the eme

While she was still out on bail, my mother was sent back to the home that she used to exert full control over. When she pushed the doors open, only an empty echo welcomed her back. Everything that belonged to my father and Joe was gone.Even the family photos had been taken, leaving behind faded marks on the wall that indicated the photos had once hung there. The only thing that remained untouched was my little dark, suffocating room. My mother was going crazy as she took out her phone to call Joe. It took her dozens of calls for Joe to finally pick up."Joe! Where are you? Come home right now! I can't be without you!" She screamed into the phone and even attempted to use her death to threaten him. "If you don't come home, I'll jump off the roof and make you guilty for the rest of your life!"On the other end of the phone, Joe's voice was colder than ice and filled with chilling hate. "All right, go ahead. Once you're dead, you can accompany Janine on the other side. She must have

"Don't touch her!" Joe grabbed my mother's messy hair and yanked it hard, causing her to fall heavily onto the ground. Friends and family watched as Joe pointed at my picture to reveal my mother for who she really was."Quit putting up an act of being a loving mother here! You never regretted killing her. You just regret not keeping Janine around as your backup for your pride and ego after I failed you and destroyed your investment in your education project."My mother's lips trembled at having her deepest thoughts exposed this way. "Joe, how can you say something like that about your own mother…""Get lost! You have no right to be here!" Joe strode forward and called security on her. Two muscular men grabbed my crying mother and dragged her out the door like garbage, flinging her outside the steps of the funeral parlor. A storm had been brewing, and it started to rain heavily as my mother crawled through the mud in despair. She watched as the hearse with my body in it left for

My father sat in the chair opposite with a dead look in his eye. "Stop your act, Sharon. You should just take your phony expert theories to hell with you. You claim that you did all this for Joe, but you don't love our son at all. You just love the genius you could control perfectly to prove your educational philosophies!"Whenever you faced pressure from academia, your pride and perverted need for control refused to let you vent on your son for fear that your greatest work would be ruined, so you used the excuse of love to vent all of your unhappiness onto Janine!"You treated Janine as your emotional dump and turned her into a live experiment to showcase your authority!" My mother turned pale and she slammed the glass. "That's not true! I did it for our family!"However, my father ignored her hysterical demeanor and motioned for the lawyer to place a signed document against the glass to show my mother. It was their divorce papers. "I've already started court proceedings for our

My soul followed the ambulance all the way to the hospital's morgue. I looked coldly down at the body that once belonged to me without sadness or fear. I had been tortured by my mother for 18 years, and I was finally free.Outside the corridor of the morgue, tension was building. The forensic doctor was holding a thick stack of paper, which was the forensic report, as he approached my father and mother, who had a female police officer standing guard over her."Before the deceased passed, she endured a long period of torture while conscious. The fingernails on all ten of her fingers have broken off, and we found a large amount of wooden splinters inside her nails. The index finger and middle finger on her right hand suffered serious comminuted fractures from intense scratching."The forensic doctor placed several horrific close-up images on the table. "Her lungs show a large area of blood stasis that you can see, are dark purple-reddish in color. This was caused by a severe lack of o

The police officers and my father worked together to open up the coffin, and a horrible stench immediately filled the basement. It was the stench of blood and filth from my bowels, accompanied by the rotting stench of death. The experienced police officers turned pale at the sight, and they took a step back.I was curled up quietly in a corner of the coffin. My face had turned purplish, just like how a corpse was. There was no longer any color on my lips. All ten fingers no longer had any fingernails on them, as they had fallen off my fingers from all the scratching, and they now looked like a bloody, fleshy pulp. The inside of the coffin was covered with horrifying scratches with bloodstains on them. My eyes were half-opened inside the coffin, and there was no life left in my eyes. Only a blank look was left. When my mother turned to look, my blank eyes met hers at the same time, and the look of glee froze on her face. "This… This isn't possible…"She refused to accept the reality
