BOYFRIEND

DRE'S P.O.V

(PRESENT DAY)

I'm going to kill those girls. No one is going to stop me— not even my boyfriend.

I tap my desk angrily, my eyes never leave the clock.

Class isn't over till fifteen minutes.

The English teacher is up front. Her class drags on for so long.

She had given me a warning when I begged her, just recently, to let me leave earlier.

I have to leave, the rumours are spreading again.

Dre's a whore, she's always stealing people's men.

*I'm no whore!*

I never did any of those things—well, not all of them.

Except for the time when Russell kissed me during lunch. Or the other time when Evan and I made out when I was his calculus tutor. Or that one time when TJ begged me to suck his—

I stop myself.

Maybe I am a whore.

*Fuck no*

All of those boys were single when it happened.

All those boys came to me.

So why am I the villain?

Because those girls can't control their boyfriends, they need someone to blame. And that someone is always me.

I am not going to let that happen. I'm done letting it slide.

I'm so sick and tired of being treated like this. I'm finally going to stand up for myself.

Besides, I have a boyfriend, so their accusations were false.

I wouldn't cheat on my boyfriend.

My phone buzzes in my pocket, and I take it out.

Speak of the devil. My boyfriend sent a text.

*I know you're mad, try to calm down, okay?*

Fuck that. I'm going to take those girls to hell for what they did. They outnumbered me, but with the rage I feel, I'm convinced I can fight them all.

I know for sure I'd win.

Five minutes left.

The English teacher is already giving out homework.

Any moment from now.

My phone buzzes again.

It's still my boyfriend.

*Babe please, there are less violent ways to go about this. Think of your scholarship.*

That's right, my scholarship.

Fighting can jeopardise my scholarship; it can destroy my whole future.

All the extra classes I take for extra credit. Sleepless nights of studying to maintain my already high GPA. All the effort I made to get into Luiton University, the best school of medicine and surgery in the country.

It'll all go down the drain if I fight.

Well, I say fuck the scholarship.

My mind is made up, and the second the class is over, the girls are in for it.

The bell rings.

I bolt out the door.

Jasmine Richards, Cyan Bennett and the devil herself, Maddie Celeste.

I know where they'll be, in the girls' locker room, getting ready for cheer practice.

My phone starts ringing, it's my boyfriend.

"What is it?" I answer.

"Andrea, just calm down, okay. I'm coming to get you, just wait for me," he begs.

"No, I'm done waiting."

"Just calm down, babe," he pleads. "You could get hurt."

I end the call. I don't need to hear this.

I head to the girls' locker room when out of nowhere someone grabs my arm, pulling me into an empty classroom.

"Let go of me," I say angrily.

The door slams shut. For half a second, I think it's Maddie.

Then he turns round.

"Luke?"

The moment I see him, everything collapses.

Tears spill down my face before I can even stop them.

He steps closer instantly.

"I thought I told you to wait for me," he says quietly.

"I can't wait, Luke. They do this to me all the time," my voice begins to break.

Luke says nothing, drawing me near him.

He runs his hands through my hair before pulling me towards him.

"You can't fight, you know that," he whispers, while I sob on his chest.

He's right.

Maddie will destroy me.

Kick my ass to the curb.

"You're fragile," Luke adds.

I'm tired of feeling this way, like I can't defend myself.

Luke finally pulls back, wiping my tears with his thumbs.

"I'll handle it," he says.

"How?" I ask. "Will you fight them for me?" I ask eagerly.

"Of course not, but I'll handle it," he says.

I look at him, unconvinced.

"You trust me, don't you?"

I nod without hesitation.

*With my life.*

"I'll take care of you," he assures me. "Let's go."

He holds out his hand, and I take it.

Luke walks me out of the room.

"Andrea," someone calls from a distance.

Luke steps aside, letting go of my hand.

It's Nathaniel Collins, my boyfriend.

"Babe, are you okay?" he asks, drawing me in for a hug.

"She's fine now," Luke answers him coldly, before I can even respond.

Nate pulls away to study me, ignoring Luke.

"I'm fine, I was just so angry," I admit.

"Okay. Where have you been? I looked everywhere for you?" Nate asks.

"Where have you been, Nathaniel? Aren't you supposed to be here with her?" Luke retorts.

"Luke," I say, trying to ease the tension between him and my boyfriend.

"I'm here now, that's all that matters," Nate says.

Luke scoffs.

"Babe, were you crying?" he asks, concerned, now seeing my damp face.

"I'm fine," I tell him, not wanting him to worry further.

"She's fine because I was there. Try being a better boyfriend," Luke says, walking past us.

Nate wants to say something back.

"Please," I beg Nate. "He was just trying to help."

Before Nate can respond, I pull away to catch up with Luke.

  • IN BED WITH HER    GIRL BEST FRIEND

DRE’S P.O.VAfter hours and hours of lying awake, my alarm finally puts me out of my misery. The glow of my phone screen is the only light in the room. I keep staring at it, willing Luke to text or call me back, but the last message I sent him hours ago still sits unread. He’s at Ian’s. He’s supposedly ‘still’ asleep, but it’s seven in the morning; he has to be awake by now. While brushing my teeth, I call Luke again, hoping that this time he’s wide awake and already on his way to drive us to school. I can’t imagine going alone. Ruth is still mad, and I have a feeling she’ll confront me again and I don't want to face it alone. After I told Luke she knew about us, he went straight to her place to meet her himself. He never told me what happened when he was there— what he said to Ruth, or what she said to him. He came home afterwards and said there was nothing I needed to worry about, and that was it.But worrying is all I seem capable of. Worrying about what happened with him and

  • IN BED WITH HER    SUSPECT

DRE’S P.O.VThe line connects after a third call.“Hello?” I call impatiently. “Luke, are you there?”A few seconds pass, and I finally get a response, but it’s not Luke.“Hi, Andrea,” the soft-spoken person responds. I immediately recognise the voice; it’s Ian’s.My cheeks still burn when I recall our last conversation. Ian caught Luke and me messing around in the locker room, and I haven't known how to face him ever since.“Hi, Ian...can you put Luke on the phone?” Luke did mention he’ll be staying at Ian’s, but then he changed his mind. At least, I thought he did. Why else would he leave me here alone tonight?“Uh, he’s asleep. Is everything okay?”I swallow hard. I just want to know if he’s fine, from him and not Ian. But if he’s asleep at Ian’s, everything should be okay then.“Yeah, everything’s fine,” I assure, forcing lightness into my tone. I just wanted to know if he’s okay... that’s all. Sorry I called, good night—”“Wait,” he cuts in. My ears perk up. I strain

  • IN BED WITH HER    CLUELESS

LUKE’S P.O.V For the next two hours, Ian and I spend it scrolling and analysing every single picture we can get of Nathaniel. Group photos, selfies, we even got our hands on some family photos. We go through his entire socials. Posts he uploaded himself, posts he was tagged in, every single one we can find. It gets to the point when we have to ask a few guys and a couple of his first to send pictures they have of him too. They did, we search through each one. At the end of it, we gathered close to three hundred pictures of Nathaniel, and not one of them has a single piece of jewellery we're looking for. A black plaited bracelet. Whoever is in that video with, Dre wore it. It’s the only clue I could find. The only other options to get to the bottom of this are worse. It's either we: A- break into Nathaniel’s room to see if it somehow resembles the room in the video. Or B- show Dre the actual video and ask her directly who the guy is. Ian suggests we do the latter. “It’s th

  • IN BED WITH HER    FACELESS MAN

LUKE’S P.O.V I drive straight to Ian’s instead of Dre’s. I need to think. I need someone who isn’t going to look at me with the whole time with those big, trusting eyes and ask why I sound off. Ian’s house is dark except for the basement light. His parents are probably still out. I let myself in, as always and head downstairs. He’s sprawled on the old couch, controller in hand, some shooting game paused on the TV. “Luke? Grab the controller; I’m about to play another round,” he says, barely looking at me before fixing his eyes on the screen again. “I’m good.” Ian frowns then pauses the game. His eyes scan over me. "The fuck happened to you? You look pale.” I drop onto the beanbag across from him and pull out my phone. “They fucking texted again.” My hands are still shaking a little as I hand him the phone. “It’s not Nathaniel.” Ian sits up straighter his game forgotten. “How do you know? You said you were sure it’s him.” “Yes, because he's the only person

  • IN BED WITH HER    FAKE PASS

LUKE’S P.O.VThe first picture opens after what feels like forever. Dre’s in it, and it’s not what I feared it could be. My eyes narrows, straining to decipher the poorly shot image. It had obviously been taken in secret—the awkward angle gave it away. It’s Dre and me in the school's parking lot, together. I open the next one; it’s Dre and me in hallways. The next is Dre and me in the cafeteria during lunch. Dre and me sitting next to eachother in class. Dre and me driving out of school. Dre and me in the library. Dozens and dozens of pictures of Dre and me together. All at different days and times, all proving I didn’t stay away from Dre. Nathaniel comes to mind but Nathaniel’s in juvenile; phones aren’t allowed. It’s possible an outsider is helping him do this, or he’s not the sender. No, it has to be him; it’s the only logical option. He’s Dre’s ex; he's been with her; he already has a record of keeping sex tapes of girls in our class. He has a motive, and this is his way of

  • IN BED WITH HER    SEVERAL PICTURES

LUKE’S P.O.V “Did Darren Ford approach during your game, Lucas?” I’m back at the law office, meeting with Mr Reyes again, accompanied by my attorney, Ross. “He didn’t approach,” I answer. “What about your friends, anyone you know. Did he approach any of them?” I made sure to ask Dre and Halle, and they both assured me Darren didn’t say a word to either of them. Aside sitting behind them like a creep, that was it. “No, he didn’t speak to either of them.” “Has he tried to contact you since?” The attorney asks. “No, he hasn’t.” It doesn’t make sense. He’s been in hiding, or at least I thought he was, so why come back here? Why risk showing his face for a high school basketball game?” My phone buzzes loudly on the desk but I ignore it. Mr Reyes leans back in his leather chair, the wood creaking under his weight. Beside me, Ross looks over his notes, his pen tapping against his yellow legal pad. “He’s messing with you Lucas,” Ross says quietly, breaking the silence. “

  • IN BED WITH HER    DIRTY THOUGHTS

LUKE’S P.O.VThe memory of Dre fucking her tight little cunt last night is stuck in my head, playing in repeat. It’s all I've thought about since I saw her do it last night.I’ve caught myself openly smiling in school, thinking about it—about her.The way she pumped her fingers into herself, pressi

  • IN BED WITH HER    WATCH IN SECRET

LUKE’S P.O.V My eyes bat open the second the door closes. I stir in my bed, wanting to go back to sleep, till I notice Dre’s not here. She left the room, which isn’t an unusual thing to do; she probably got a call from someone, and didn’t want to bother me with it. But she's woken me already. I

  • IN BED WITH HER    TOUCH YOURSELF

DRE’S P.O.VI glance at the guy I’m currently tutoring, then down at my buzzing phone. My phone was supposed to be switched off, but I’d left it on for one reason only.I’d been waiting for that text. And now, it had finally come through.“I’m so sorry, I have to take this,” I say quickly, lro Tris

  • IN BED WITH HER    STUNT

LUKE’S P.O.VIt’s been fifteen minutes since the last bell of the day rang. The school’s parking lot is already packed with students. Some try to drive out of it, while most hang around.Dre’s mum, Halle, texted earlier. She wants me to check out the venue for the memorial.*I know we normally do t
