Kane’s POV

Olivia’s eyes pinned intently on the mask. Hovering on it like she was a detective or something.

“Are you okay?” I asked, closing the gap between us.

I could sense the rage emanating from Cynthia as I went on one knee, an inch away from the woman I loved and betrayed.

“What are you doing?” Cynthia asked from behind, her anger surfing through her words.

Still Olivia held on to father’s mask, staring at it like she’d seen a ghost.

I took the mask gently from Olivia’s hand. And stretched it up for the servant to retrieve it from me and place it back into the box.

“I’m sorry boss.. I’m sorry ma’am.” The worker said nervously, as he stood glued to a spot.

Earlier when Olivia came over to the manor, she wouldn’t let me get close to her. But for some reasons, here I was an inch to her and she wasn’t repulsive.

But when I removed the mask from her grasp, our hands brushed and I felt that tingling sensation she always made me feel.

Olivia Benson was a lot of things, and that made me sway to her.

There was something quite unsettling today about her. That much I could tell, but what exactly?

And why did she come to the manor all of a sudden after I’d been trying to reach her for weeks?

“Does the mask seem familiar or something?” I asked, trying to start a conversation with her.

“No.” She said sharply, finding her feet as she dusted her hands on her knees.

Olivia towers over me, looking down at me as  her hair fell to a side. She looked miraculously beautiful, and it made me bite down on my lower lip.

I’d cheated on her with Cynthia, and I knew I’d ruined things between us.

But she came here today. Surely there was a reason. But what was it?

She would have said something if it weren’t for Cynthia and her bad mouth. I curse the day I fell into her trap.

“Is there something you wanted to tell me?” I asked, finding my feet.

“It’s….nothing actually.” Olivia stutters, turning around quickly without so much as a glance my way.

I stared at her continuously, my heart aching with each step she took.

What have I done?

She walked up to the truck and it’s workers, each greeting her before she swept past them and forward on her way.

“What was that about?” Cynthia stormed the question at me, pointing a finger directly toward me.

I sighed, and moved away from her. But Cynthia moves forward, hindering my path. “I’m talking to you. Don’t you dare ignore me.”

“Please, I really don’t have the energy for this.”

“Why? Because of her right? Does she mean so much to you?”

“Yes!” The words came out of my mouth fluently.

Cynthia stared at me with so much disbelief. “She’s that important huh? More than your unborn child. Is that it?”

At the mention of my unborn child, my heart melted completely. I couldn’t bear to be a bad father. I already had issues with mine already and there was no reason to repeat it with my child.

“I didn’t say that.”

“Then what was all that about? You were practically frolicking around her like you wanted to die for her.” She said. “Do you miss her so much that you want to miss out on your own child?”

“No.”

She raises my head by my chin. “That’s good. You don’t need her, trust me. You really don’t.”

If only that were true.

Olivia has been the thought of my existence ever since I knew her. And it got worst even after the whole incident with Cynthia.

“Don’t give me that face.” Cynthia said, pulling me out of my thoughts. “You only need me… and your child.”

My heart skipped, torn between believing her and wanting to believe in something more.  And that something was definitely getting back Olivia.

As if reading my thoughts, she frowned, pushing me by the jaw. "Embarrassing," she spat, "how can you even call yourself a man? And what was she doing here? Did you call her to come?"

I stared at her in cold silence.

When I didn’t answer, she attempted to escalate things forward. But Stanley quickly intervened, stepping in at just the right moment.

“Miss, Cynthia. Might I schedule a cold bath for you? It’ll be most refreshing for you and the baby.” He suggested.

Cynthia froze, contemplating what my family’s butler had suggested. I knew she loved luxury, and that was what Stanley was offering.

A twisted smile painted her lips, she laughs, blinking at the thought of her in the cold jacuzzi bath. “Hmm, that doesn’t seem so bad after all.” She said as she beamed a smile at him, before turning to glare at me.

“Atleast someone here knows how to treat a lady. Take note.”  She says, glaring at me as she turns away. Slowly, she quicken her steps after Stanley.

At the door she stops, turns to take a quick glance at me before exiting into the house.

Once I’d been left in front of my families manor, I turned around to search for Olivia. But she was gone, there was not a single trace of her.

“Olivia…” I muttered to myself. My heart beating fast as I thought of her.

Olivia had come here to see me. Surely, there was something important. Could it be about the stranger rumored to be seen with her?

I called for one of the workers, she rushed over immediately.

“That mask,” I tell her, “make sure to take it out from the rest. I want to know everything about it.”

“Yes, master Kane.” She rushes back to the rest.

I could see her search through the box thoroughly.

“Master Kane.” Stanley’s voice called to me.

I turned to face him. “What is it?”

He hesistates. “Lady Cynthia wants you to join her. She’s already in the jacuzzi waiting for you.”

I sighed. She clearly doesn’t want me going after Olivia.

“I’d be with her shortly.” I tell him, before turning to stare at our gate far away.

Olivia was gone. And couldn’t chase after her.

OLIVIA’S POVThe dark in the room was thick, heavy with the kind of silence that usually preceded a storm. Lucious hadn't fallen asleep. I could feel it in the way he was pressed against my back, his arm heavy across my waist, his breathing just a little too deliberate. He was vibrating with all the shit we’d dragged home from the hospital.I knew he needed this. Maybe he needed to feel like he was still in control of something, even if it was just us, and honestly? I needed it too. I needed to know that we were still here, still breathing, still solid.I shifted, turning in his arms to face him, but he was already moving.“Loucious..”He didn't say a word. He just started with my shoulder, his lips warm and firm, trailing a line of heat down toward my collarbone. His hands were everywhere, firm and desperate, grounding me. His hands slipped down my nightie and gently gripped my breasts, his thumb making my nipples hardening.Soon, I felt his lips on it, sucking hard enough to make me

LUCIOUS’S POV"Hey, hey. It’ll be okay."The more Olivia whispered the words to me, the more I felt like it would in fact not be okay. They just wouldn't be okay, and I knew it.But I just couldn't tell her that. Not now. Not after we just gone from the hospital only to learn that what? My son had escaped like a maddened criminal.Olivia is pregnant, and the last thing she needs is to feel the same panic that’s been clawing at the back of my throat since this whole nightmare started. We were standing in the middle of Kane’s bedroom. It was a disaster zone. The TV was a spiderweb of shattered glass, clothes were strewn across the floor like someone had been searching for something they couldn’t find, and the air smelled like stale sweat and anger. The maid had been shaking when she told us how he’d been acting for the last few days. Apparently, he’d been dunking his head in the tub and pacing until the floorboards groaned.Olivia walked over to the window, her hand resting on her bump,

KANE’S POVYou know when you’re sure you’re going to go crazy, so you just like... go crazy? Hah! Yeah. That’s what’s going on with me.Ever since Virgil came to visit me and literally let me realize I was locked up here with just my mind. Just my mind and my fucking regrets!Day three was when I really lost it. The room felt like a coffin lined with silk and expensive wood, and the silence was just so loud. I couldn't take the hum of the TV anymore, that mindless talking heads crap just kept drilling into my skull, so I threw a chair through the screen. Glass everywhere. Then I started on the lamps. Then the nightstand. I think I have claustrophobia now, or maybe I’ve always had it and this house just finished the job. Doesn't matter. My hands were bleeding, the rug was ruined, and I didn't care.Since then, it’s been a blur of me dunking my head into the bathtub and holding my breath until the spots behind my eyes turn into fireworks. It’s the only way to feel anything other than th

VIRGIL’S POV"Fuck that bitch," I muttered as I stepped out of the station, heading to my car and slamming the car door hard enough to rattle the frame.I hated it ewhen a bitch makes me angry. And I hate it even more when a woman makes me call her a bitch. But God, Cynthia is a special kind of stupid. Standing in that grimy room, breathing the same air as her, made my skin crawl. She is greedy and hollow and has no idea how deep this hole goes, like what did she think was going to happen? Very easily poison Loucious? Just like that?I pulled out of the precinct, the city traffic blurring into a mess of taillights and noise. My hands were gripping the wheel so hard my knuckles turned white. I hated this. I hated that it had come to this. I know it was my job to clean shit up as the lawyer of the Salanders but this is not just any clean up.It's not like Lucious hasn't been targeted before but those people were easy to erase. This was his supposed son, and his damn brother. So what th

CYNTHIA’S POVThe next morning started with the cold and the sound of heavy boots approaching my cell. I had spent the night curled in the corner of that miserable bunk, my black eye throbbing in sync with the leaky faucet in the corner. When the guard grabbed my arm, he didn't offer a word, just a forceful shove that sent me stumbling into the hallway. I managed to glance at Gustov’s cell but he wasn't in there."Keep walking," the guard grunted, his hand firm on my shoulder.I didn't argue, I didn't have the strength to. I just followed the path, my mind desperately trying to construct a narrative. I didn't know anything. Gustov was just a friend. Kane was just a boy with issues. I ran these lines over and over until they felt like the truth. When we reached the interrogation room, the air was different. It was stale and charged with a quiet, predatory tension. The table was bolted to the floor, and the chair I was pushed into was hard, cold, and designed to make me feel small. I sa

CYNTHIA’S POVThe drive from where we were picked to the station didn't even take as long as I honestly thought. The cell however was almost like a goddamn prison. Damp, cold and just with a gross aura about it.Now, every time I blinked, my left eye pulsed with a sharp, sickening throb. Gustov had punched me right as the officers were shoving us into the intake area, his rage spilling over because the plan had crumbled. Because it was my fault. My skin felt tight and hot, the bruise already blooming into a dark, ugly violet, but I couldn't bring myself to hate him for it. He was just under so much pressure, it's not his fault. We both were. He was an intense man, a man who felt things with a violence that could sometimes be overwhelming, but It was okay because I knew he didn't mean to be cruel. He was just agitated, and I was the closest thing to him.Unfortunately the police didn't understand, so they separated us immediately. Gustov was in the single cell directly across the narro
