LOGINAngeline’s voice was loud. Lucas panicked, terrified that she would wake his mother.
Rather than getting caught undressed and trying to explain the unexplainable, Lucas scrambled to put all his clothes back on before hurrying out of the bedroom. Sure enough, his worst fear had come true. His mother was already standing right outside the door. Did she hear? What if she knows? "Mom?" Lucas's face paled with anxiety. His biggest fear wasn't for himself; it was the toll the shock would take on his mother's fragile health if she found out what he had just done to Angeline. A year ago, he had received the devastating news that his mother was gravely ill. That was the day he had given up his title as the Capital's Mafia King, walking away from immense wealth and absolute power just to take care of her. "What's going on? Why was Angeline screaming? And why are you sweating like that? What exactly were you doing in her room?" Rose interrogated, her eyes narrowing with suspicion. Without waiting for an answer, Rose pushed past him and walked into the room. I'm dead, Lucas thought. "Miss Angeline, is everything alright? Why were you shouting earlier?" Rose asked worriedly. Angeline shot Lucas a lethal glare before answering. "Ah, no, Auntie. I was just freezing. Thankfully, Lucas was quick to bring me some extra blankets." A massive wave of relief washed over Lucas. "Oh, I see. I thought something terrible had happened. I was afraid Lucas had tried something funny with you, Miss," Rose said, visibly relieved herself. Angeline merely offered a tight, polite smile. "Well then, please get back to sleep, Miss, so you can fully recover by tomorrow," Rose said gently. Angeline nodded. "Thank goodness," Rose murmured as she left the room. The Next Morning Angeline ordered Lucas to call in sick to work so he could drive her home. On the way, Lucas felt the need to clear the air about the misunderstanding from the night before. He tried to broach the subject. "Ms. Angeline. About last night... I apologize. But honestly, I didn't have any other choice. It was all—" "Shut up!" Angeline snapped, cutting him off. "Don't ever bring that up again. Just hearing about it disgusts me. As soon as I get home, I'm taking a milk bath soaked in antibacterial and antiviral wash." She checked her watch; it was 10:00 AM. "Take us to the jewelry store on V Avenue. There's something I need to buy," she ordered. "Yes, ma'am." Lucas promptly drove to the requested destination. They arrived shortly after. Lucas parked the car by the curb, right in front of the sparkling jewelry boutique. As he stepped out of the car, he noticed an antique shop across the street that immediately caught his eye. "Welcome! Please come in!" a security guard greeted warmly from the boutique's entrance. Angeline gave a brief nod and walked inside. But as Lucas moved to follow her, the guard threw an arm out to block his path. "You can't go in!" the guard barked. Lucas frowned. "I came with Ms. Angeline. Why can't I go in?" "Drivers wait outside. Only the bosses and people with actual money are allowed inside. Broke trash like you don't belong in here!" the bald guard sneered, his voice dripping with contempt. Lucas scoffed. "You're just a security guard, yet you've got the nerve to call someone else broke? Have you looked in a mirror lately?" Hearing the commotion outside, Angeline stepped back out to see what was going on. "You bastard! Are you insulting me?" the guard flared up. Lucas simply shrugged. "What's going on? Why are you two arguing?" Angeline demanded. The guard forced himself to calm down. He couldn't afford to lose his temper in front of a VIP client; his job was on the line. "I apologize, Madam. I politely asked your driver to wait out here, but he started throwing a tantrum," the guard lied, smoothly twisting the facts. Angeline took a deep breath and glared at Lucas. "Stop causing trouble! Just wait here!" "Yeah, fine." Angeline turned on her heel and went back inside the store. The security guard let out a mocking laugh. "Yeah, fine. Hahaha..." Lucas's eyes narrowed at the taunt. "What's so funny?" "I told you not to go in. Now you're getting scolded by your boss. What if she docks your pay? Your miserable life is gonna get even more miserable, hahaha..." the guard mocked. "Stop laughing, or I'll rip your mouth open," Lucas warned, his voice dead serious. The guard hadn't expected Lucas to fire back so aggressively. "You threatening me? Come on then, let's see you try to rip my mouth open," the guard sneered, stepping up to challenge him. Lucas took a breath, reeling his temper in. He needed to hold back so he wouldn't draw unnecessary attention. Honestly, wiping the floor with a thousand security guards would have been a walk in the park for him, let alone just one. Deciding it wasn't worth his time, Lucas chose to walk away. "I'm in a good mood right now, so just get back to your post," Lucas said, turning his back on the man. He decided to head over to the antique shop while waiting for Angeline to finish her shopping. But the guard wasn't going to let it go. As far as he was concerned, he wasn't done putting Lucas in his place. "Running away, huh? If you don't have the balls, don't talk big," the guard scoffed. Seeing Lucas completely ignore him infuriated the guard even more. He lunged forward and grabbed Lucas roughly by the shoulder. In a fraction of a second, the guard was flipped and slammed mercilessly onto the concrete floor. The sickening sound of his spine cracking echoed in the air. "I told you to get back to your post, but you just had to push it," Lucas muttered, looking down at the guard who was now sobbing in excruciating pain. Lucas casually turned and resumed his walk toward the antique shop. But just as he stepped into the middle of the street, a speeding SUV came out of nowhere and slammed right into him.As Lucas continued to step closer, Dario was forced to back away. His face was visibly tense."Of course I am his biological son. So you'd better not mess with me, or my father will destroy you," Dario threatened again as he retreated.Seeing this, Max stepped forward to protect Dario. He figured this was a perfect opportunity to win over the Moratta family. If he managed to get in their good graces, both he and his family would reap massive benefits."Stop right there!" Max shouted, standing squarely in front of Dario.Lucas smirked at Max's demand and halted his steps."Why? Are you trying to interfere?" Lucas asked calmly."Absolutely! Dario is a good friend of mine, and I will protect him," Max declared with brimming confidence.Lucas let out a small chuckle. He took a long breath and said, "Even Gigio's son can't stand against me, let alone you?"The remark made Max's face flush red."Just give it up and leave. Don't try to kiss up and play the hero here, because it's not going t
Lucas glared sharply into Dario's eyes. He wanted nothing more than to rip Dario's mouth right off at that very moment. However, Lucas tried his best to remain patient. In a public space like this, he couldn't afford to make a scene that would draw unwanted attention.Lucas turned his back and resumed his walk toward the elevator doors. But he had barely taken two steps when Dario barked loudly, "Where do you think you're going? Running away? Do you really think you can just escape?"Lucas halted his steps. Slowly, he turned back around."You're lucky I'm not in the mood to beat anyone up today. So, I'm letting you walk away," Lucas stated calmly.Lucas's expression clearly showed how little he thought of Dario. Naturally, this completely offended the arrogant man."You bastard! You think you can beat me up? I'm the one who's going to beat you to a pulp!" Dario growled. At that exact moment, a man arrived, flanked by two hulking bodyguards. Lucas, who had been ready to leave, held him
Max saw the disappointment and doubt lingering on Angeline's face. He quickly seized this opportunity to earn her admiration and a deep sense of gratitude."When I arrived, the riot was already underway. I ordered Enrique to stop his men, but he refused. So, I ordered my own forces to fight Enrique and take them down," Max boasted proudly.Jeremy smiled widely. "You truly are incredible, Max. There is no doubt that the Benedict Family will soon become the number one family in Verdansk. No one will ever dare cross you."Max waved his hand dismissively, though a smug look remained on his face. "Ah, it's not quite like that. That might be a bit of an exaggeration. Well, even though there's a chance we could become the number one family, for now, breaking into the top ten great families of Verdansk is much more realistic."Currently, the Benedict Family was not yet among the top ten families in Verdansk. They sat at the twelfth position.Jeremy nodded in absolute agreement.Max glanced at
After all of Enrique's men were taken care of by his forces, Julian picked up a sword and walked over to Lucas.Julian knelt before him. With his head bowed, Julian said, "I will take full responsibility for what happened. I will sever both of my hands as an apology. Please accept my apology, The Obsidian Blade."The atmosphere fell dead silent. Julian's men watched with overwhelming anxiety.A few of them were already wondering who would lead the Lumos Organization in Verdansk after Julian lost both his hands.Julian raised his right hand, which gripped the sword tightly. Then, he swung the blade down toward his left hand. But just before the blade made contact, Lucas kicked Julian's hand, sending the sword clattering to the ground."I did not give you permission to cut off your hands," Lucas stated. "Even though they were under your command, you are not entirely at fault.""Thank you, The Obsidian Blade. You are incredibly merciful," Julian said.Lucas swept his gaze across the area
Enrique's forces were poised to attack from all sides upon receiving the order.Logically, Lucas's life was about to end. However, Lucas had always defied logic and common sense."Do you really think you can defeat me like this? How ridiculous!" Lucas scoffed.Enrique was perplexed as to why Lucas showed absolutely no fear despite being completely surrounded. An ordinary man would be pale with terror, yet Lucas looked perfectly calm and brimming with confidence. Who was he exactly? What kind of power did he possess to be this fearless?"Boss. Let's just finish him off. He talks too much," urged a man standing behind Enrique. The leader of the Lumos Organization brushed aside his lingering suspicions about the man standing before him."I don't have much time. So, forgive me if I can't give you a moment to say your goodbyes or leave a will," Enrique sneered.Lucas merely smirked. He completely dismissed Enrique's threat."Attack!" Enrique commanded.Enrique's subordinates surged forward
Facing over a hundred mafia thugs, Lucas dared to threaten Josh. His words were punctuated by his iron grip, violently twisting Josh's arm."Aarggh... you bastard! Do you have a death wish?!" Josh groaned, his face contorted in pain as he cursed."I'm not the one with a death wish. You are!" Lucas retorted.A terrifying, dark aura instantly erupted from Lucas. He absolutely refused to tolerate any form of disrespect toward Angeline."Let me go, or you'll pay the price!" Josh threatened back, struggling to break free. "I am a Commander of the Lumos Organization! We can wipe you off the face of the earth in a heartbeat!"The surrounding mafia thugs immediately tensed, ready to strike. They even dropped the battered security guards they had been pummeling. It would only take a single command from Josh for all of them to swarm Lucas.Angeline grabbed Lucas's arm, desperately trying to soothe his anger and get him to release Josh."Lucas! Don't do anything reckless. Let him go!" Angeline p
