Love?

It was overrated. It was never in my dictionary again. Not after what my ex and my best friend did to me.

As I walked down the hallway, my mind went back to what Scott had told me.

His emerald eyes and pointed nose were shoved into my very face, asking me to be his girlfriend.

Fake girlfriend.

Who does that?

Like I was some cheap commodity he could just acquire because he wanted to feel special and probably have a chance in some football team I know nothing about.

My wolf giggled. I

Scott’s POVThe ground beneath my feet felt different the moment I stepped into the clearing. It wasn’t just earth and grass anymore. It was judgment. It was fate. It was every rule Alpha Hendrix had ever sworn to protect pressing down on my shoulders at once. The entire pack was there.Elders stood in a wide circle, their faces unreadable, eyes sharp and ancient. Betas lined the edges. Warriors stood shoulder to shoulder, quiet but alert. This was not a spectacle. This was law. This was tradition. And in the middle of it all stood Troy.Confident.Smiling.Like this was already his victory.I rolled my shoulders slowly, breathing through the tightness in my chest. I could feel Sienna before I saw her. She stood beside her father, hands clasped together, knuckles white. Our eyes met for just a second.Fear flashed through her. Then belief. That was all I needed.Alpha Hendrix stepped forward, his voice carrying across the clearing. “This is a sanctioned challenge under pack law. • LOVE AND SPORT    Chapter Two Hundred and Sixty five

Alpha Hendrix POVThe weight of leadership is not something a man puts down at the end of the day.It follows you into sleep. It breathes with you.It watches every choice you make and demands to know if you are strong enough to live with the consequences.I stood by the tall windows of the pack house, hands clasped behind my back, watching the mist cling to the forest like a warning that refused to lift. The land was quiet—too quiet. The kind of stillness that always came before disruption.A storm was coming.I felt it long before I saw them.An Alpha knows when fate is walking up his path.“Alpha,” Beta Marcus said from behind me, his voice low, careful. “They’re here.”I didn’t turn immediately.I already knew who they were.My daughter. And the boy who refused to stay gone.“Let them in,” I said at last.Marcus hesitated. “Scott is with her.”“I said let them in.”The doors opened with a slow, echoing creak that carried down the hall like a challenge. I turned then—and there she

Sienna’s POVFear has a smile. I discovered that as we drove away from the academy. It wasn’t loud. It didn’t scream or howl or announce itself the way danger usually did in our world. It was quieter than that—steady and persistent, like a heartbeat that refused to calm no matter how many times you told yourself to breathe.Scott’s hand was wrapped around mine, firm and warm, but even that couldn’t fully steady me.I kept my eyes on the road ahead, watching the scenery blur past, because if I looked at him for too long, I knew I would cry. And if I cried, I wasn’t sure I would stop. This was really happening.I was taking the man I loved to stand before my father.Alpha Hendrix. The name alone carried weight. Authority. Fear. Power sharpened by years of command and tradition. He was not a man who bent easily. He was not a man who forgave quickly. And he was definitely not a man who welcomed surprises—especially ones that came in the form of a rogue with a complicated past and a heart

  • LOVE AND SPORT    Chapter Two Hundred and Sixty Three

Scott’s POVThe engine rumbled beneath my feet.It was a low, steady sound, the kind that usually meant movement, distance, escape. The bus doors hissed shut, sealing us in, and I felt it in my chest like a final breath being taken without my permission. This was it.Home.I sat by the window, my bag at my feet, my hands clasped together so tightly my knuckles ached. Outside, the academy grounds slipped into stillness—quiet buildings, empty walkways, a field that had given me everything and taken just as much in return.I told myself this was what I wanted.Distance.Time.A chance to breathe without every decision feeling like a battle. And yet, as the driver shifted gears and the bus lurched forward just an inch, something inside me snapped taut. Not fear.Clarity.My chest tightened, not with dread, but with a sudden, brutal truth I could no longer ignore.Running home wasn’t courage. It was avoidance.I glanced down the aisle instinctively, searching for her even though I already

  • LOVE AND SPORT    Chapter Two Hundred and Sixty Two

Scott’s POVThe stadium was still buzzing in my head long after the noise faded.Winning the match should have felt like closure. Like a full stop at the end of a messy sentence. Instead, it felt like a comma—like something important was still coming, something heavier.Home.That word followed me everywhere in the days after the match. In the locker room, where congratulations felt forced and awkward. In the corridors of the academy, where people suddenly remembered my name again. In my dorm room, where my bag sat half-open on the floor, waiting to be filled.Preparation for home wasn’t just about packing clothes. It was about bracing myself for everything I’d been running from.Coach Miller didn’t say much to me after the game. He clapped my shoulder once, firm and deliberate, like he was trying to make a point without using words. I noticed the way his tone shifted around me afterward—respect mixed with caution. As if he was reminded of my worth, but also of the chaos that seemed
