LOGINALEXANDER
I chewed what was in my mouth. I hadn’t had a meal that good in years, and the look on his face wasn’t enough to make me stop. I gulped it down without raising my head, continuing to wolf down the spread of delicacies on the table until I heard the scrape of his chair as he stood and walked away.I didn’t look up. I finished eating quickly, then rose to my feet and returned to my room, finally full. Rubbing my stomach, I felt pleasantly bloated. I wanted nothing more than to wash up, climb into bed, and sleep when a knock sounded at the door.
I got down from the bed and opened it to find the butler smiling warmly at me. My heart dropped, fear creeping in that my table manners must have offended Alpha Damon. But then the butler said, “Your Majesty, please change into the dress you wore earlier today. The head maid will be here shortly to escort you to the Queen’s palace.”
I blinked in confusion. Then I remembered the dresses, gowns, and lingerie I had seen in the closet at noon, and I realized this beautiful room had not been prepared for me at all. It had been meant for my sister.
“I’ll change right away,” I replied.
Then I shut the door.
Although disappointment settled in my chest, it did not hurt as deeply as I thought it would. I already knew my place in his life. I was neither his first love nor his first choice. I was only a cruel joke—his fated mate, chosen by the Moon Goddess as if to mock him.
When another knock sounded at the door, I had already changed back into the dress I had worn at noon.
“Come in,” I said.
The door creaked open, and a woman stepped into the room. She was about five-foot-four, with a petite frame, big bright eyes, and a warm smile. The tension in my body eased immediately.
“My queen,” she said, “come with me. Let me take you to where your true authority is.”
For a moment, I almost believed her. Then I shook my head. I knew her words were only meant to coax me out of the room. Still, I had no choice in the matter, so I followed her.
When we stepped out through the back door of the main palace, I saw another palace standing not far away, barely a hundred meters from it. A plaque hung at its entrance. Its architecture felt strangely homely. Unlike the main palace, it did not try to project power or authority. Instead, it felt welcoming. Flowerbeds bloomed all around it, and trees lined the courtyard. Children ran about laughing. There were no armed guards here. Unlike the main palace, where everyone looked as though they were teetering on the edge of death, the people here looked alive. They smiled, chatted freely, and carried themselves with ease.
I was led inside and then taken to my room.
The head maid looked at me with a smile and said, “Your Majesty, if there is anything you want, please call for me. My name is Christina. Just say my name, and I will appear at your door immediately.”
“Thank you,” I said with a smile.
My gratitude seemed to startle Christina. She must not have expected it, because her lips stretched wider, and her eyes gleamed with excitement.
“We are here to serve you, Your Majesty,” she said.
Then she bowed and left.
I turned to the wardrobe, itching to change. I wanted to strip away everything that reminded me of my father’s house. I did not want to live with those memories of rejection and humiliation. Every breath I took while carrying them felt unbearable.
My eyes widened when I saw that every dress in the wardrobe had been tailored to fit me perfectly. A smile touched my lips. One by one, I brought them out until I found the one that felt the most comfortable.
I kept wondering who had arranged for the dresses, but I was too exhausted to think much further. I climbed into bed and fell asleep.
When I woke the next morning, fear gripped me at once. But then I remembered that I was no longer in my father’s house. The tension drained from my body, and I relaxed back into the bed, closing my eyes to steal a little more sleep.
When I finally got out of bed and went to the bathroom to wash up, I came back just in time to hear a knock at the door.
“Come in,” I said.
Then Christina walked in with her signature smile. She bowed her head slightly before greeting me.
“Good morning, Your Majesty. I hope you slept well?”
I nodded. “Yes.”
I was surprised that the servants in the palace were nothing like the ones I had grown up with. They were not snobbish at all.
Glancing at my closet, I asked, “Christina, do you happen to know who arranged the outfits in my wardrobe?”
Christina replied with complete certainty, “Your Majesty, of course you know who did it. Apart from your husband, who else would dare do such a thing for you?”
My hand, which had been reaching for a blue round-neck dress, froze. I turned to look at Christina in disbelief. I knew Alpha Damon far too well to believe he would do something so thoughtful for me. She must have been conditioned to always speak well of her master.
I quickly got dressed, and Christina led me to the dining room, where I was served a variety of delicacies I had never tasted before. To my surprise, every single dish suited my taste perfectly.
“I knew you would love it,” Christina said. “Your husband instructed us to prepare several dishes and make sure everything was freshly made. He also mentioned that you love meat, and it seems his assessment was right. I think he cares about you more than anyone realizes.”
My eyes widened. Alpha Damon, who had barely spared me a glance since rescuing me from my stepmother when she tried to sell me to human traffickers, cared about me?
Impossible.
ALEXANDERI felt soft lips on my forehead. I opened my eyes slightly, overjoyed, and squinted happily as I looked into his.“Good morning,” I mumbled.Chris looked at me and whispered, “It’s time to go home.”I nodded slowly. I was surprised to see that he had bought another outfit for me. After I quickly changed, we went through the tunnel and made our way to the parked car.We got in, and he drove me to a bar in town. It wasn’t too busy since it was dawn. There were only a few pedestrians and fewer cars, mostly people heading to their offices. He looked at me and said, “You shouldn’t spend all your days at home. You can work at this bar, so you can learn more about the city.”“I agree with you,” I replied. We got out of the car and walked toward the bar. Aside from a cleaner sweeping and mopping the floor, no one else was there. At the counter, the cleaner raised her head and said, “Mr. Chris, the manager is in his office. You’re lucky—he was about to go out to see his new girl, but
ALEXANDERIt was too late when I realized I had fallen into her trap. Her fist had already shot forward, but I was quicker, retreating just before it could land squarely on my chest.I flew backward, losing my footing.Mira looked at me with a cold smile. “Ain’t you going to fight anymore?”Then I heard a faint voice in my heart.“Transform.”I glanced toward Chris. His face was expressionless, but I already knew he was the one who had sent the message. I didn’t question why he wanted me to transform.I turned back to Mira, my eyes growing cold. “As you wish.”A sharp squeaking sound filled the air, followed by the sickening crack of bones shifting and snapping into place. The pain rattled me deeply; it was unbearable, but I gritted my teeth and endured it until the transformation was complete. The moment it ended, I moved. Before Mira could even react, I swatted her across the room and sent her crashing into the wall. The instant her back slammed against it, I lunged forward, caught
ALEXANDERWhen I saw Chris on the floor, he was back on his feet in a flash. He burst into exaggerated laughter, then said with a grin, “Again!”I didn’t hesitate. The moment I moved, I struck him with a swipe of my claw and sent him flying. He landed hard on the floor and looked up at me in surprise.I was surprised too. The first time I hit him, I told myself he simply hadn’t been prepared. But this time, he had been fully ready, and I still managed to land the blow.“What a powerful wolf,” Chris said with a sigh. “The speed, the accuracy, the strength... I can only win if I’m in my wolf form.”I stayed quiet. I didn’t know how to react. For years, I had dreamed of and wished for this day, but now that it had finally come, I didn’t even know how I felt.Chris looked at me casually and said, “Attack me again.”I was just about to move when a shout rang out from behind him.“Enough!”Both of us turned toward the voice and saw Mira striding over. Her face was dark, and she glared at me
ALEXANDERChris’s eyes dimmed as he replied to her gloomily, “Mira, you need to show great respect to my wife. She is the Luna of the pack, not you. I haven’t fallen in love with you in the past three years, I do not love you now, and nothing in the future will change my decision. I hope you can respect my choice and stop dreaming of us ending up together.”Hearing Chris’s harsh words, I realized he was truly angry at Mira for what she had just said. Without hesitation, I decided to claim him.I reached out and wrapped an arm possessively around his waist, then looked at Mira with open contempt. From the corner of my eye, I caught the surprise on Chris’s face.I sneered at Mira. “Chris is my husband. I don’t like other women entertaining thoughts about him. I am jealous and possessive, and I have no intention of sharing my man with anyone—especially not with you.”Mira glared at me with hostility, but her stare did not intimidate me at all. Instead, it only made me bolder. The days of
ALEXANDERChris ignored Peter completely and walked straight to me. He helped me to my feet and said, “I’m sorry you got hurt. Next time, idiots like him won’t get the chance to do something like that.”Although his words touched my heart, I was still upset by Peter calling me a weak woman. I had grown up being called an ugly girl—was I supposed to endure another humiliating label too?I turned to Peter with cold eyes and sneered. “I may be weak today, but tomorrow I’ll show you my strength and make you eat your words.”Peter looked at me strangely, then burst into laughter. He laughed so hard his body convulsed. After a moment, he stopped, slipped one hand into his pocket, and said, “I’m sorry.”The corner of my lips twitched as I wondered what game he was playing. How could he switch from hostile to friendly in the blink of an eye?Peter waved a hand and said, “Don’t think too much about it. I’ve always wondered what kind of woman could make Chris, who has lived like a monk, fall in
ALEXANDERI turned around, unease curling in my chest. The idea of getting married did not seem pleasant at all, especially after everything I had gone through at the hands of Alpha Damon. He had treated me worse than trash, and at times, it felt as though he had never truly accepted me as his wife.I lowered my head and furrowed my brows. Before I realized it, Chris’s palm rested gently on my arm. I lifted my head and met his eyes, which were filled with sincerity.“You don’t need to feel pressured. Whenever you are ready, I will walk down the aisle with you.”Hearing those words moved my heart. I reached out and hugged him tightly, and he wrapped his arms around me in return. The warmth of his embrace soothed my racing heart. He leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to my neck before ruffling my hair. Then he said, “I’ll be leaving the house soon. Take care of yourself.”He placed a gentle kiss on my forehead before walking out of my room. A moment later, he got into his car and drove
ALEXANDERSlowly, I descended the staircase and saw my father climbing up. He didn’t say a word as he walked past me, and I lowered my gaze.I tightened my grip on my gown. After seeing the disgust in the maids’ eyes when they finished preparing me, all the confidence and excitement I had felt abou
ALEXANDERI sat trembling in my chair, unable to believe my ears when my father said, “Alexander is also my daughter. She deserves to eat at the same table with us. You should let go of your anger so we can eat.”Shock washed over me. For years, I had lived under this roof like a stranger to him, s
ALEXANDERI could feel Jezebel’s intense gaze burning into me. My hands shook, and sweat slid down my skin as her voice tore through the air.“You’ll suffer,” she screamed. “I will make you suffer. Every day of your life will be hell.”I kept my eyes pinned to my toes.My shoes were ruined—holes ga
ALEXANDERChristina’s words lingered in my mind, haunting me for the rest of the day. Even during lunch, when I noticed that far more meat than usual had been served at the table, I couldn’t shake off the strange unease settling in my chest. The feeling only worsened whenever I caught the palace ma
