Chapter 3

Author: Aero
Martha forced a flattering smile as she spoke into the phone, her voice full of fake sweetness.

“Please rest easy, Miss Natalie. We have already forced her to take the medication. We will make sure to follow your orders to the letter.”

“Good.” Natalie’s tone overflowed with smug satisfaction. “If Iris is still whining about the pain in a little bit, I happen to know a method that can both relieve her pain and buy enough time until Kaelen gets back.”

“What method?” Martha asked hurriedly.

The voice coming through the speaker instantly turned venomous and cruel.

“First, hang her upside down by her feet. After five minutes, the pup will naturally begin to recede into the womb. Then, find a rope and tie it tightly right below her lower abdomen—that will naturally stall things for a while longer. If that still doesn’t work, then…”

She intentionally raised her pitch, her voice dripping with malice.

“Sew her shut. Do whatever it takes, ensure she holds out until Kaelen gets back.”

I shook my head frantically, but I could still only manage muffled, helpless noises against the hand blocking my mouth.

Martha froze to the spot, her face completely pale. It took her a long moment before she could force out a strained sentence.

“Miss Natalie, surely that isn’t wise. Something terrible will happen…”

“How could it?” Natalie scoffed with utter disdain.

“Our werewolf kind possess a fiercely resilient life force. In the past, whenever we wanted to ensure a healthier pup, this was exactly how we did it.”

She paused for a couple of seconds before continuing coldly.

“Are you all entirely certain you want to offend me over a discarded she-wolf who is about to be thrown out onto the streets? You know exactly how much Kaelen favors me. Whoever dares to help her will be the very first one I deal with once I become the Luna!”

Disregarding the intense contractions and the warm blood flowing freely from my lower body, I lunged forward in a desperate attempt to break free from the maids.

“No! Kaelen would never do this to me and our pup! You’re lying! You wicked, malicious she-wolf! Martha, don’t listen to her!”

But in the next second, the two maids ruthlessly pinned me back down onto the mattress. Tears streaming down my face, I stared at Martha, pleading desperately with my eyes.

“Martha, you’re a mother too. Do you really have the heart to inflict this upon my pup?”

Martha trembled violently from sheer terror, cold sweat pouring down her skin as the hand holding the phone shook uncontrollably.

Natalie pushed her advantage, narrowing the trap. “Kaelen already promised he would give me my official title and cast her out of the pack entirely. I suggest you weigh your options very carefully.”

With that, the call was abruptly disconnected.

After a tense, heavy silence, Martha finally spoke to the maids.

“Let go of the Luna.”

A surge of relief washed over me. Believing that her maternal instincts had finally won out and she couldn’t bear to go through with it, I weakly reached a hand out toward her.

“Martha... quickly, the hospital. If we wait any longer, it will be too late.”

But she suddenly jerked her head away, avoiding my gaze entirely as she barked a cold order to the maids.

“Go fetch some ropes.”

Horror contorted my features. I fought with everything I had, but the sedative coursing through my veins left me completely drained of strength.

Moments later, a heavy iron frame was wheeled into the bedroom.

They grabbed my arms, dragging me forcefully toward the terrifying metal rack.

I am going to shield you from now on. No one will ever harm you again.”He muttered to himself as if I had simply fallen into a deep sleep.BANG.The church doors were violently forced open.Matt rushed in at the very front of the crowd, clutching a silver dagger laced with wolfsbane, while a dozen fully armed bounty hunters flanked him.Securely shielded behind a perimeter of mercenaries stood Martha, Ronald, and Natalie, who leaned heavily on a crutch.Matt glared at Kaelen’s silhouette, his eyes flashing with lethal intent.“An Alpha who goes entirely mad over the loss of a mere mate has absolutely no right to lead

I heard she was throwing quite a fierce tantrum. It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have been feeling unwell at a time like this. Please don’t be too angry with her, either. After all, she only did it to get your attention…”Kaelen didn’t argue with her as he usually did. He simply stared at the gentle face before him, his tone flat and calm.“Who was it that bribed the healer to alter Iris’s due date?“Who was it that called Matt, ordering him to force labor-suppressing medication down Iris’s throat?“Who was it that called Martha, forcing them to make Iris hold her delivery back until I returned?”Natalie’s body froze instantly.“Kaelen, what are you talking about? I don’t understand…”“You don’t understand?”Kaelen supp

Kaelen drove like a madman, practically crashing his way through the gates of the estate. The moment he crossed the threshold, he found Martha collapsed on the floor, her hands covered in blood, while Ronald trembled nearby.Scarlett stood before the bedroom door, her eyes burning red.Kaelen rushed over to her, his voice shaking.“Where is Iris? Where is she? Is she just hiding because she’s angry with me?”Scarlett violently swung her hand, striking his face with a savage slap.“Why aren’t you over at the hospital keeping your precious Natalie company? What are you doing here? Did you come to make absolutely sure they were dead, just so you could clear the Luna’s position for that malicious bitch?”“I didn’t... I only told them to make her wait until I came back to take her to the hospital. I had no idea things would…” Kaelen stammered, completely deflated by her fury.“Wait until you came back?” Scarlett let out a bitter, mocking laugh, hooking her fingers into his collar, w

I believed that everything had finally come to an end.Yet, when I opened my eyes once more, my soul was somehow floating directly alongside Kaelen.Natalie lay weakly in a hospital bed, her face pale.Kaelen was gently blowing on a bowl of nourishing tonic soup, tenderly feeding it to her one spoonful at a time. The adoring affection in his eyes was almost overflowing.I watched the scene unfold in complete silence, my heart entirely numb.I wondered how he would react if he discovered that I was already dead.“Kaelen,” Natalie whispered, her voice frail as she gazed up at him with tear-filled eyes.“Thank you. If you hadn’t rushed me here in time, I really don’t know what I would have done. I might have…”Kaelen looked down at her.“Don’t speak such nonsense. The healer said it was merely a mild case of Braxton Hicks contractions. The pup is completely fine.”Natalie tentatively squeezed his hand, her tears splashing onto the back of his knuckles.Pressing her lips togethe

The servants scrambled to loosen their grip on me, bowing their heads in unison.Martha stood frozen to the spot, her face completely pale as she smeared the blood from her hands all over the hem of her clothes.Kaelen and his sister had lost their parents at a young age, relying solely on each other to survive.Everyone in the pack knew exactly how much he revered his older sister.Within the Eclipse Pack, her word carried even greater weight than Kaelen’s.Scarlett’s gaze swept across the purple bruises marking my abdomen, the blood-soaked bed, and the unfinished stitches dangling from my lower body.Through the pooling blood, the fine hair of the crowning pup was faintly visible. They bound my feet and hoisted me upside down from the metal suspension rack.A deafening roar erupted in my head as the pup thrashed violently within my womb, and dark spots danced across my vision. Tears ran down my forehead, lost in the damp, sweat-matted strands of my hair.“Kaelen, please come back and look at me. Can you truly be this heartless?“Kaelen, I really can’t hold on anymore. The pup is going to…”As my consciousness began to fracture, a hallucination of Kaelen appeared before my eyes. He smiled as he walked toward me, gently kissing my brow just as he used to, his voice a soothing whisper.“I will protect you and our pup from now on. Don’t cry.“I would cast everything aside for you—even my own life.”I reached out with a trembling hand, but my fingers grasped nothing but empty air as the darkness threatened to swallow me whole.Suddenly, a searing bolt of agony from the rope digging into my lower abdomen forcefully yanked my mind back to reality.A moment lat
