Aya's POV

My entire body froze.

Someone was on the roof.

The hooded figure below my window kept one finger pressed against their lips, silently pleading with me not to make a sound.

My pulse thundered inside my ears.

For one terrifying second, I couldn't move.

Then...

A slow, deliberate footstep echoed above my ceiling.

Creak.

Another.

Creak.

Someone really was up there.

I instinctively backed away from the window.

The hooded figure immediately shook their head.

They pointed upward again before

  • Living With the Boy Who Hated Me   The Woman Behind the Wall

Aya’s POV“You should have left your mother’s secrets buried.”The woman’s voice slipped through the crack like cold air.No one moved.Detective Cruz raised her gun toward the shifting wall while the two officers spread out beside her. Callum remained in front of me, his body tense, one arm stretched back as though he could shield me without looking.“Identify yourself,” Cruz ordered.Silence answered. Then came another scrape.A loose stone dropped from the wall and shattered across the floor.Callum glanced over his shoulder.“Stay behind me.”Normally, I would have argued. This time, I didn’t.There was something in that woman’s voice that made my skin crawl. She knew my name. She knew about my mother. And she had been close enough to hear everything we had just discovered.Cruz moved toward the opening.“Hands where I can see them.”A soft laugh came through the crack. Not nervous. Not frightened.Amused.“You still think you’re in control, Detective.”Cruz’s expression hardened.

  • Living With the Boy Who Hated Me   The Box Beneath the Boathouse

Aya’s POVThe first crack split through the chamber like a gunshot.I barely had time to look up before Callum slammed into me.“Get down!”His arms locked around my body as the ceiling erupted.Stone crashed against the floor. Dust exploded through the chamber, thick and blinding, swallowing every face and every scream. Something heavy struck the ground beside us hard enough to make the floor shake.Callum twisted, shielding my head with his shoulder.I heard Claire cry out. Then Richard shouted her name.Another blast tore through the tunnel. The wall behind us buckled. For one horrible second, the entire chamber seemed to fold inward.I pressed my face against Callum’s chest and waited for the ceiling to crush us.It never did.The noise slowly faded into a low, terrifying rumble.Dust drifted through the darkness. No one moved. My ears rang so violently that I couldn’t tell whether the pounding I heard was falling stone or my own heartbeat.“Aya.”Callum’s voice sounded distant.H

  • Living With the Boy Who Hated Me   Darkness Below

Every flashlight died at the same time. The underground chamber vanished into absolute darkness.Aya instinctively reached for Callum. His hand found hers before she could call his name."I'm here," he whispered. His voice sounded calm, but she could hear the tension beneath it.Somewhere behind them, Tina gasped.Richard muttered a curse under his breath. Then—Bang! The heavy hatch above them slammed shut. The sound echoed through the stone tunnel.Everyone froze.Detective Elena Cruz's voice cut through the darkness."Nobody move!"An officer immediately answered."The entrance's been sealed!"Callum looked upward even though he couldn't see a thing."They're trying to trap us.""No," Claire said quietly."They're buying time."Aya frowned."For what?"Claire's answer came almost immediately."For someone to take the evidence."One of the officers switched on an emergency flashlight.A weak beam flickered to life.It wasn't bright enough to illuminate the entire chamber, but it was

  • Living With the Boy Who Hated Me   The Boathouse

The old boathouse door groaned again.Slow.Deliberate.Not because of the wind.Because someone had just walked inside.Every instinct in Callum screamed the same thing.Too late. His grip on Aya's hand tightened."We have to move."Detective Elena Cruz immediately stepped in front of them."No."Callum's eyes snapped toward her."If someone's after that box—""They're exactly where they want us."Richard nodded grimly."She's right.""We can't just stand here!" Callum argued.Claire's attention never left the weathered boathouse across the lake."If Victor sent someone..."Her voice faltered."...then they already know."Aya frowned."They know what?"Claire slowly turned toward her."Where the box is."A heavy silence settled over the shoreline. The secret Eleanor had protected for twenty-three years was no longer safe.Within minutes, Detective Cruz divided everyone into groups. Two officers circled around the western side of the lake. Two more approached from the east."No one en

  • Living With the Boy Who Hated Me   The Girl in the Hood

Branches whipped against Aya's face as she chased Callum through the forest. The figure ahead never slowed. They darted between towering pines with surprising speed, disappearing and reappearing through the morning mist."Callum!" Aya shouted."Don't fall behind!"He leaped over a fallen log without looking back.Aya followed, her boots slipping slightly on the damp ground before she caught her balance.Behind them, Detective Cruz's voice echoed through the woods."Callum! Stop chasing alone!"He ignored her.The stranger was too close. He wasn't losing them again. The figure glanced over one shoulder. For the briefest moment, Aya caught a glimpse beneath the hood. Not a face.Just a strand of dark hair escaping the hood.A woman? Before Aya could be certain, the stranger disappeared behind a cluster of thick trees."She's heading toward the lake!" Callum yelled.—The forest suddenly opened into a narrow clearing.Hawthorne Lake stretched before them, its normally calm surface rippli

  • Living With the Boy Who Hated Me   The Chapel Bell

The note sat on the library table inside a clear evidence bag.Every pair of eyes remained fixed on the three handwritten words.Find the chapel bell.No one spoke for several seconds. Finally, Richard broke the silence."The old chapel hasn't been used in decades."Detective Elena Cruz nodded."My officers searched the area years ago after Eleanor's case was reopened.""And?""We never found anything unusual."Callum crossed his arms."Because no one was looking for a bell."Aya's fingers brushed against the journal still resting beside her."My mom wanted me to find it."Callum looked at her."You think this message is helping us?""I don't know."She swallowed."But whoever left it knew I was reading the journal."Richard's expression hardened."Which means someone was inside this house tonight."The realization settled heavily over the room. The stranger hadn't just been watching the estate. They had entered it.—The following morning arrived beneath a blanket of gray clouds.Rai
