CHAPTER 003

Keira's POV

I got up early in the morning to meet up for training. I had so much on my mind, but a day out in the fields, shooting arrows, could help take my mind off things.

I went out into the quiet morning, only to see my teacher there on the field waiting for me.

Did the man ever take a break?

I walked towards him, already knowing the exact words he was going to say.

"You stood me up yesterday," he said, and I shrugged.

"I'm sorry, teacher. I told you not to come."

"Does the teacher answer to the student, or does the student answer to the teacher?" he asked, and I shook my head. I really needed this to get my mind away from Zeke and Lyra.

"The Luna Archery Tournament is a few months away, Keira. I'm hoping you know that."

"Well, did you? You decided to teach my sister too, knowing fully well I will compete against her."

"I am the archery instructor of the pack, not your personal instructor, Miss Keira," he said, and I shrugged.

"But I can't deny you are my best student," he said, and I smiled instead.

He pointed towards the targets across the training field.

"Ten arrows. One breath between every shot." He was back to instructing like he'd never said that.

I reached into the quiver strapped across my back as I pulled out the first arrow. The bow kissed my fingers as I drew it back.

Eyes on the target. In my mind, I silently counted to three. Tapping my finger on the bow with each number. I let the direction of the wind lead my arrow instead of against it.

I took in a deep breath. Paused. And then I released. The arrow tore through the morning air and buried itself dead centre of the target.

This… this was what it felt like. This was home.

I felt excitement rush through me as I picked another arrow and pointed it towards the target, waiting for the wind to lead me.

But a figure up ahead made my hands sway, and I squinted, trying to take a closer look. Up ahead was the Lycan King. Standing there with all majesty and villainous venom, staring straight at me.

For a second, a stupid thought bled through my mind, and my arrow was already pointing at him before I had realised.

How about I end him instead? Then Zeke wouldn't have to protect Lyra from him. Then… I wouldn't have to make the choice I had decided to make.

An arrow couldn't kill a Lycan King. But for some silly moment, I believed my arrow could pierce through his heart.

The wind was with me… guiding my fingers, and I let out a breath. And fired.

He saw me. He watched everything I did with an amused smile playing on his lips. He thrived on this, I realised, but it was too late. The arrow was already in the air.

"Oh, Moon Goddess," I whispered, but then watched as the arrow fell short to the ground. Not even close to him.

"Failed," I heard my teacher's voice, and I turned immediately.

"What?"

"One must be clear-headed when aiming at the target, but you let your emotions rile you up. You always have a bad temper, which is not good for someone who is to lead," he said, and I frowned.

"Clear your head, stay focused, and rise above emotions. Then no matter how big the target is… you'll always get it," he said, and the words resonated deep with me.

I turned back to Magnus, but he wasn't there anymore. The space he had been in was empty.

After practice, I showered and came down for breakfast and stopped just outside the dining room when I heard my mother's voice, sharp and pleading at once.

"She can't go to him," my mother was saying. "Please. Not Lyra."

I stayed still, my hand resting against the wall. Through the doorway, I could see Lyra at the table, her shoulders shaking, tears streaming down her face.

"I heard he's terrifying," Lyra sobbed. "I don't want anything to do with him. Please, Mum, don't make me go."

"If anyone should go," my mother said, "it should be Keira. She has Alpha blood. She would last longer against someone like him."

The reason we had adopted Lyra was because my mum didn't see me as her daughter. I had been born as a twin, with my brother who was a true heir, but an accident had happened, and I had watched him die.

My mother still blamed me for it even if I could barely remember. But something told me that there was more to it than I could remember.

I walked into the dining room, my spine straight even though my heart wasn't.

"Dad, I—"

"Aren't you ashamed to even show your face?" my mother cut in before I could finish. "Hiding behind your younger sister, after everything, after stealing the man she loved?"

Rage shot through me so fast I could barely breathe around it. My hands curled into fists at my sides. "Lyra is not my sister," I snapped.

My mother's frown deepened, disdain written all over her face.

"There she goes. The wicked child. As if you ever cherished the sibling you actually had. You let him die."

"Mum, we were five," I shouted, tears spilling down my face before I could stop them. "We were both five years old. I couldn't have saved him even if I tried."

"Rebecca, we agreed to stop bringing that up," my father scolded her softly.

She didn't answer me, and I breathed out, trying to steady my voice for what I was about to say next.

"I have had a long thought about everything and have decided to step up as the future leader of the pack."

"Stop with the speech and get to the point already," my mother said.

"I have decided that Zeke should be married to Lyra," I said, and they looked up at me in surprise.

"What do you mean? You're Zeke's mate!" my father said.

"But he's only ever loved Lyra, like mother said. So I've decided to be the bride of the Lycan King instead.”

  • MARRIED TO THE LYCAN KING: CHOSEN BY THE MOON   Chapter 017

MAGNUS’ POV:I cradled Keira against my chest as I ran through the palace corridors with her blood staining my shirt. Her body felt too light and her skin burned with fever while fresh blood trickled from the corner of her mouth. Servants threw open doors ahead of me and Torin sprinted beside us shouting orders into his phone. We burst out the main entrance where a black SUV waited with its engine already roaring. I climbed into the backseat without loosening my grip on her and pulled her across my lap so her head rested against my shoulder. Torin slammed the driver’s door and floored the accelerator. Tires screeched on the pavement as the vehicle shot forward. He weaved through traffic with reckless speed and ignored every stop sign. Other cars swerved out of our path the instant they recognized the royal plates. Horns blared but Torin never slowed. I kept one hand pressed to Keira’s cheek and brushed damp strands of hair from her face with my thumb.“Sunflower,” I called softly. M

KEIRA’S POV:I closed the heavy chamber door behind me and slid the bolt into place with shaking fingers. The moment the lock clicked every wall I had built during the confrontation crumbled. My legs gave out and I sank to the floor beside the bed with my back against the wooden frame. Tears I had swallowed in front of the warriors and my family finally spilled over. They streamed down my cheeks hot and endless while my shoulders heaved with silent sobs that grew louder in the empty room.I pressed both hands over my mouth at first to muffle the sound. I was the Luna of Nightfall territory now. I had to show strength. I had to prove I could carry whatever weight they threw at me without breaking. Yet alone in this room the mask melted away. I struck my own thigh with a clenched fist as fresh pain ripped through me. Why did my own parents hate me so fiercely? “You evil child, you killed my son.” “I wish you died instead of my precious baby boy.” “You are a curse. What sin did I com

MAGNUS’S POV:I lingered in the shadowed corridor outside Keira’s chamber with my back pressed against the cold stone wall. Her broken sobs drifted through the thick wooden door and wrapped around my chest like iron chains. Each cry started low then climbed into sharp gasps that tore at the air. She had locked herself away the moment we returned from the training grounds. No servant could coax the door open. She had refused food, water, and every gentle knock. Now only her pain remained and it flooded the hallway with raw sound. My Lycan, Ragnar, slammed against the cage of my ribs. The beast snarled and clawed with frantic energy. “Go to her. She needs us. Break the door and pull her into our arms!” I flexed my fingers at my sides while my nails bit into my palms. Lycan Kings did not comfort. We ruled with steel and distance. Comfort belonged to weaker men. Yet my feet refused to carry me away. I stayed rooted there and listened as her tears continued without end. Fever burned thr

KEIRA’S POVI watched my parents and sister retreat through the gates with their heads down and shoulders hunched. Their hurried footsteps kicked up dust along the path as they vanished beyond the high stone walls. The training grounds fell into complete silence. No steel clanged. No voices called out. Every warrior on the field stood frozen with weapons half raised and eyes fixed on me.They had seen it all. My mother’s accusations, my father’s rage, Lyra’s tears, and me unleashing my aura while ordering my own blood to leave. Heat flooded my cheeks. The anger that had burned so hot moments ago drained away and left embarrassment in its place. I shifted my weight from one foot to the other and stared at the ground where my bow lay abandoned in the dirt. The silence stung worse than the shouting had. Not one warrior met my eyes. Some pretended to adjust their grips on their weapons while others stared straight ahead as though nothing had happened. I could not blame them. How many of

MAGNUS’ POVThe arrow snapped cleanly between my fingers with a sharp crack that echoed across the silent training grounds. I tossed the broken shaft aside without looking. Splinters bit into my palm before falling away. Keira hadn’t moved from her spot on the firing line. She stood rigid, chest rising and falling in uneven bursts, her fingers still curled as if the bowstring remained taut against them. Torchlight painted flickering gold across her pale face and the thin nightgown clinging to her sweat-dampened skin. Her eyes stayed locked on the three figures approaching from the entrance, wide, haunted, braced for the blow she clearly expected to fall.I crossed the distance in measured strides and stopped beside her. My hand settled gently on her shoulder. She flinched hard at the contact, a lifetime of reflex, before the tension melted at the realization it was me. I kept my hand there, warm and steady, letting her feel the weight of it. A silent anchor.Only then did I turn my g

KEIRA’S POVCrimson eyes burned through the darkness, inches above my face. My eyelids fluttered open, heavy with sleep, and the shadow solidified into a man. Broad shoulders blocked the faint moonlight slipping past the curtains. “Agghhh…” a scream clawed up my throat.A large, calloused hand clamped over my mouth, swallowing the sound before it could tear free. The weight of his body leaned closer, warm breath brushing my cheek.“Shhh… quiet, sunflower,” Magnus rumbled, voice low and rough like distant thunder. “It’s me. Your husband.”My heart slammed against my ribs. I blinked fast, lungs burning as I recognized the sharp line of his jaw, the dark hair falling across his forehead. Magnus. Not an intruder, not a nightmare. He held my gaze until my breathing slowed, then eased his hand away. I sucked in a shaky breath, glaring up at him while clutching the blanket to my chest. The room was still steeped in night. No hint of dawn touched the windows. Cold air seeped through the crac
