“You’re still there?”
I glanced at my phone and lowered my voice. “Yes.”
“Hannah,” Valerie said, sounding exhausted even through the call, “I’m literally at work and you’re still sitting in that restaurant?”
“He said he’d be here by seven,” I replied, checking the time again. 7:48pm.
Valerie scoffed softly. “And you believed him?”
I sighed. “I just want to give him one last chance.”
There was a pause on the line, then the faint sound of keyboards and distant voices. Valerie was definitely at work.
“Okay,” she said finally. “But if he doesn’t show up in the next ten minutes, you’re leaving. Promise me.”
“I promise.”
I ended the call and placed my phone on the table, staring at the empty chair across from me. I ordered chicken tikka masala with a glass of wine while waiting for Elias.
The candle on the table flickered softly, mocking me. Around me, the restaurant buzzed with laughter and warmth. Couples leaned close, smiles easy and familiar.
I felt out of place. Alone. Foolish.
Eight o’clock. Elias stood me up.
My chest tightened as I reached for my bag. I was done waiting.
Just as I stood, my phone vibrated.
For a second, hope flared.
It disappeared the moment I read the message.
Valerie: Hannah, I’m sorry. I just saw Elias
I’m sorry. I just saw Elias.
My heart skipped. Saw him where?
The next message came with a photo.
Elias stood in a hotel lobby, his arm wrapped around another woman’s waist, his head tilted back in laughter like nothing in the world could touch him. The affection he never showed me, he showed a stranger.
I stared at the screen, my hands trembling.
I never expected Elias to betray my trust. Looking at him with another woman disgusted me and still broke my already broken heart.
The restaurant noises faded into the background. The warmth, the laughter, the music. None of it mattered anymore.
Everything I thought I had shattered in that moment.
I asked for the bill, and paid for the bill alone. I could feel the pity eyes the waitress gave me, but I cared less. My so called boyfriend stood me up to go to a hotel with a stranger.
My heart knew she wasn’t a stranger to Elias, but I refused to accept the truth.
The restaurant felt colder as I stood, like I no longer belonged there. Laughter still echoed around me, but it sounded distant, unreal.
As I stepped outside into the night, the city lights blurred in my vision. And in that moment, a painful truth settled deep in my chest.
I never truly knew the man I spent years loving.
My phone buzzed again in my hand, but I didn’t look at it. I already knew it would be Elias, Excuses wrapped in pretty words all lies.
And for the first time since I met him, I felt nothing but disgust.
If this was how love ended, then I was done being foolish enough to wait for it.
Hannah POVHomeWinter arrived softly in Alesia. Not harshly. Not cruelly.Just gently enough to cover the kingdom in silver frost and glowing white mornings. The capital looked beautiful during winter.Lanterns reflected warmly against snowy streets while children played outside wrapped in oversized scarves and laughing loudly enough to echo through the city.Peace suited Alesia beautifully. And honestly?Peace suited us too.I stood near the palace balcony one quiet morning watching snow fall slowly across the kingdom below while warmth from the fireplace drifted softly through the room behind me.The palace had become home in ways I never expected. Not because it was grand. Not because it was royal.Because love lived here now.“You disappeared again.”I smiled before even turning around.“Good morning to you too.”Kael approached quietly behind me before wrapping his arms gently around my waist. The warmth of him instantly softened something inside my chest.“You’ve been standing
Hannah POVPeace Looks Good On AlesiaBy the time we returned to Alesia, autumn had settled gently across the kingdom.Golden leaves lined the capital streets while cool winds carried the scent of fireplaces and fresh bread through the city.Everything felt calm.Comfortable.Home.And honestly? That word no longer scared me anymore. The moment our carriage entered the capital, citizens immediately crowded the streets cheering excitedly.Apparently news of Valerie’s wedding traveled faster than royal guards.“How do they know everything?” I whispered.Lucien looked deeply offended.“We’re royalty.”“That didn’t answer my question.”“It means gossip follows us professionally.”Honestly…Fair enough.People waved enthusiastically as we passed while children ran alongside the royal carriage laughing excitedly. The kingdom truly looked different now.Not just rebuilt.Alive.The scars Selene left behind no longer haunted every corner of Alesia.Markets overflowed with activity again.Musi
Hannah POVValerie’s WeddingThe morning of Valerie’s wedding arrived wrapped in sunlight and ocean wind. The entire Crescent Isles buzzed with excitement from dawn.Servants rushed through the palace carrying flowers and fabrics while music floated softly from the lower courtyards near the shoreline.Honestly, weddings truly made people lose their minds everywhere.“You are NOT crying before I walk down the aisle.”I looked up from the vanity in Valerie’s chambers.“I’m literally the chief bridesmaid. Crying is part of my job.”“It’s not.”“It absolutely is.”Valerie rolled her eyes dramatically while several attendants worked carefully around her.And honestly? She looked breathtaking already. The wedding gown shimmered softly beneath the morning light, elegant pearl details flowing across the fabric like seafoam.Everything about her fit this island perfectly.Warm.Bright.Alive.“You’re staring again,” she accused.“You’re beautiful.”Her expression softened instantly.“Oh.”Emot
Hannah POVChief BridesmaidThe Crescent Isles looked like something out of a dream. The moment our ship approached the shoreline, I completely understood why Valerie fell in love with this place.Crystal-blue water surrounded the islands beautifully while silver bridges connected elegant cliffside towns glowing beneath the afternoon sunlight.Everything looked peaceful.Soft.Romantic.“This is unfairly beautiful,” Lucien announced dramatically from beside me.Riven looked toward the shoreline calmly.“The architecture is impressive.”Kael glanced toward me afterward.“You okay?”Honestly?I was more than okay.Watching Valerie practically vibrate with excitement beside me warmed my chest in ways I couldn’t explain properly. She looked genuinely happy. Not pretending. Not surviving.Truly happy. And after everything she had done for me…Seeing her finally receive love this openly felt emotional.Very emotional apparently.Because I was already tearing up before we even docked.Lucien
Hannah POVAfterThe crowd slowly faded until it was just us.The open ground felt larger now. Quieter. The kind of quiet that settles after something important has ended.I stood where I was, staring at the fresh earth. It didn’t look like enough. Nothing ever would.“She would be proud of you.”L
Hannah POVThe Room That Closed InI stopped counting time.It didn’t matter anymore.Morning. Night. Afternoon.Everything blurred into one long stretch of silence. My room became my world. And my world became smaller every hour I stayed inside it.The curtains were still drawn. The light barely e
Hannah POVThe Night Everything BrokeI didn’t know when sleep took me.It came slowly.Quietly.Like something pulling me under against my will. The last thing I remembered was the faint sound of breathing in the room… steady… calm…Safe.Or at leastI thought I was safe.Something felt wrong.Eve
Hannah POV Something Beneath My Feet The sound came again. Soft. Dragging. Like something heavy moving across stone. Right beneath the floor. My heart slammed hard against my ribs. “Mom…” I whispered, gripping her hand tightly. She watched my face carefully now, her expression shifting fro
