JOCELYN’s POV

The photos were everywhere by morning.

My phone buzzed nonstop with news alerts, social media mentions, and board members calling.

The headlines were relentless:

Jocelyn Campbell Marries Daniel Steele in a Surprise Ceremony.

Blackwood-Campbell Wedding Canceled — Heiress Marries Rival CEO.

Steele vs. Blackwood: The Family Feud Just Got Personal.

I tossed my phone on the dining table, ignoring the fifteenth missed call from my aunt. Daniel sat on the far end, coffee in hand, perfectly calm, like he wasn’t the center of the biggest corporate scandal of the year.

“Our marriage is trending,” he said casually.

“I saw,” I muttered.

He sipped his coffee. “When you leave the house, try to put a smile on that face of yours.

You don’t want the paparazzi thinking that you were forced into this marriage with me.”

“I didn’t marry you for gossip,” I said flatly.

He smirked. “No, you married me for revenge, but the gossip remains the delivery system.”

I shook my head, grabbing my blazer. “I have to be at the office now, even though there will be so many questions.”

He said nothing, and I stood to leave. I walked past him, but he immediately grabbed me by my hand, not in a rough way, sending warmth between my legs. “No matter what they say, I believe you can handle it. Let your hunger for revenge drive you.”

My eyes widened in shock. This was the first time since I moved in with him that he spoke to me like a human. I opened my mouth to thank him, but what came out was this——

“I don’t need your advice, thanks,” then I shrugged my hand off his grip and walked out, feeling his eyes on me.

By the time I walked into Campbell Group headquarters, the building was buzzing. Employees were pretending to work but whispering in corners, and cameras flashed outside. The receptionist looked like she’d swallowed her own tongue when I stepped into the lobby together. “Mrs. Steele,” she stammered.

I shut my eyes tight. “Get used to it.”

I didn’t even make it to my office before my assistant rushed over. “Jocelyn, I mean, Mrs. Steele. The board wants a meeting. Now.”

“Of course they do,” I muttered.

I followed her to the boardroom, and before I could walk in, I heard his voice from behind.

“Wifey.”

I turned, shocked as ever, as he walked to me with a smile. “What in god’s name are you doing here?”

He looked so unbothered. “Figured I would come over to be my wife’s support system.”

“Mr. Steele..”

“Mrs. Steele… they are waiting.”

My assistant reminded me, and I nodded, walking in with Daniel behind me. The board members were waiting. Half of them looked furious. The other half looked like they wanted to avoid eye contact. We took our seats, and the meeting proceeded.

“Jocelyn,” one of them began, “this sudden change in your marital status—”

I cut him off. “Does not affect my position at Campbell Group. My shares remain unchanged. My authority remains unchanged.”

Another board member leaned forward. “But marrying Daniel Steele—”

Daniel stepped in smoothly. “Means she now has the full backing of Steele Enterprises. That should be good news for all of you.”

Daniel’s voice didn’t waver. “Unless, of course, you were hoping to side with Ethan Blackwood in his unfortunate ventures.”

The silence around the table was instant.

Ethan shifted in his seat, tightening his jaw. “Daniel, you’re not part of this board. This is a Campbell Group meeting.”

“Correction,” I said smoothly, leaning forward. “He is part of this board now. As my husband, he has my proxy vote on all corporate decisions, and as of this morning, Daniel Steele owns a significant percentage of Campbell Group shares.”

Clarissa’s head snapped toward me. “What?”

I smiled thinly. “Surprised? You shouldn’t be. You’ve both been so invested in my personal life, I thought you’d have anticipated a move like this.”

Ethan’s voice hardened. “Jocelyn, you can’t just—”

“I can,” I interrupted coldly. “And I did.”

One of the older board members, Mr. Carter, cleared his throat. “Mrs. Steel,e while it’s within your rights as majority shareholder, it’s unusual to—”

“What’s unusual,” I cut in with a sharp voice, “is that two minority shareholders with personal ties to me have been influencing decisions for years without anyone raising a concern. Daniel’s stake is larger than Ethan’s and Clarissa’s combined. If there’s an issue with his presence, I suggest you reflect on that.”

Clarissa’s knuckles whitened on the table. “You’re doing this out of spite.” I turned my gaze to her, calm but cutting. “I’m doing this because it’s my company, and I will not let snakes run it into the ground.”

Ethan leaned forward, his voice low and dangerous. “Jocelyn, you’re letting him manipulate you.”

Daniel’s smirk didn’t falter. “That’s rich coming from you, Ethan. Tell me, do you say that before or after you seduce your fiancée’s cousin?”

“Enough. We are here to discuss business, not our personal lives.”

Clarissa tried to regain composure. “Jocelyn, think about your image. The company’s stability. This impulsive marriage—”

“Is my decision,” I said flatly. “And as the owner of Campbell Group, I remind you that you do not make decisions for this company. I do.”

Clarissa slammed her pen down. “This is outrageous.”

“What’s outrageous,” I said coolly, “is that two people with obvious conflicts of interest have sat on this board unchallenged for years. That changes today.”

Ethan’s voice sharpened. “Are you threatening to remove us?”

“I’m stating that you’ll be treated like every other shareholder,” I said. “Which means your personal feelings have no weight here.”

Clarissa leaned back, crossing her arms. The meeting dissolved into tense silence. I gathered my files, Daniel following at a leisurely pace.

At the door, I paused and looked back at Ethan and Clarissa. “Get to work.”

Back in the hallway, Daniel fell into step beside me.

“You did a great job back there,” he said.

I didn’t answer, but he smirked anyway. “Congratulations on playing a perfect role as my wife.”

  • MY EX WANTS ME BACK? NOT A CHANCE!   CHAPTER 168

Jocelyn’s povThe gala was brighter than ever. The light spilled from the crystal chandeliers in a long rivers across the floors. Music drifted through the ballroom. The glasses caught the glow of gold fixtures. The diamonds flashed at wrists and throats. It was the kind of night built for appearances. The kind of place where smiles were worn beautifully. Where one glance could carry more meaning than a speech. Where everyone looked beautiful and very few people were honest. The kind of place where everything once began.I stood at the top of the grand staircase for a brief moment before descending beside Daniel, and the memory of the first gala I had attended with him came back so sharply that I almost felt it physically. That night I had stood beside a stranger I was tied to by circumstance, not trust. I had worn my confidence like a borrowed jewelry. That night Daniel had been unreadable, cold, impossible to predict. He had looked perfect in every sense that mattered to people lik

Daniel's Pov She finally lifted her head from my chest. She stood in front of me with that look in her eyes again. The one that always reached deeper than words.Jocelyn had many expressions I had come to recognize over time. Some were sharp enough to warn me before she spoke. Some were unreadable on purpose. But this one was different and honesty from her always carried weight because she never offered it cheaply. The morning air moved quietly around us, cool and thin after the long night, and everything beyond the small space between us felt distant. Jocelyn was looking at me like the answer to something important depended on what I did next.I knew that feeling. I had caused it enough times.Too many times, if I was honest. There had been moments when I stepped close only to step back again. Moments when I let tension speak in place of truth because truth required more than I wanted to give. Moments when I hid behind sarcasm, behind timing, behind plans, behind every convenient

  • MY EX WANTS ME BACK? NOT A CHANCE!   CHAPTER 166

Jocelyn’s POVBy the time we got back home, the silence felt different.Maybe it was because we had nearly lost everything outside those walls.Maybe it was because fear had stripped away the illusions both of us hid behind.Maybe it was because when something breaks open badly enough, it becomes impossible to return to pretending.Daniel walked in ahead of me, then stopped near the center of the living room as if he had only just realized we were here. For a man who noticed everything, he looked strangely distant now. Not distracted in the careless sense. More like someone whose body had arrived before the rest of him.He loosened his tie with one hand and set his keys on the table without looking at where they landed. The movement was small, ordinary, but I watched it anyway.I watched everything now. The fatigue in the set of his shoulders. The tension still lingered in the way he held himself too straight. The silence around him that no longer felt cold, only tired. He turned slig

Daniel's Pov The police were later allowed to enter the room and led Eunice away. The two policemen held her firmly at either side, guiding her toward the waiting vehicle while the rest of my security team kept the place locked down. She walked at first with the same rigid pride she had. Anyone who didn’t know her would have believed she still had her way out of the situation.I stood a few feet away and watched in silence, my hands at my sides, the night air cool against skin that still carried the heat of fear. Around us, the men moved with quiet efficiency. The doors opened and shut. But my focus stayed on Eunice not because I wanted one last look not because I needed answers. Because the endings deserved to be seen clearly.Eunice turned towards me before reaching the car. Her eyes found mine immediately. For years, that look had meant something. It had carried challenges, invitations, warnings, manipulation. There had been a time I could not separate one from the other. Now it

Jocelyn’s POVI shook my head slowly.“I’m fine.”The words came out softer than I intended, roughened by smoke, fear, and the strain of everything that had happened in the last few minutes. They sounded small in the wrecked room, almost fragile against the chaos that still lingered around us.But they were the only words I could manage.I wasn’t fine.My pulse was still racing hard enough to make my hands tremble. My knees felt weak, as if they might give out the moment I stopped leaning on something solid. My ears still rang from the gunshots, and every sharp sound in the room made my body tense before I could stop it. The smell of gunpowder clung to the air. His men were moving around us, voices low and urgent, clearing the aftermath of what had nearly become a disaster.Nothing about me was fine and yet I said it anyway.Maybe because I didn’t know how to explain what I actually felt. Maybe because the truth was too large to fit into a sentence.Maybe because Daniel was still hold

Daniel's povEunice had always known how to hide weakness behind posture, behind silence, behind the kind of composure that made others second-guess themselves. But I knew her too well for that. I had spent enough years watching her turn moments to her advantage, enough years learning what she concealed and what she revealed, to recognize the smallest crack when it formed. And it formed. It was there in the way her grip shifted, in the split second where her focus scattered instead of sharpening, and in the tiny pause that should never have existed in someone like her. That was all I needed.I moved before the thought had fully finished in my mind. My body reacted faster than logic ever could, driven by something deeper than calculation and sharper than reason.Jocelyn was the only thing in my mind.I lunged forward, closing the gap with enough force that Eunice had no time to reset herself. My hand caught Jocelyn first, gripping her arm and shoulder at once, and I pulled her hard tow

JOCELYN's POVI could have cried. Okay, maybe I was being dramatic but right now, it was like my mood had done a complete one eighty.
