MY PROBLEM NOT MY CHOICE

By the time I dragged myself out of work, I was a walking corpse.

The café had chewed me up and spit me out, the boss glaring holes through me every time I breathed too loud, and customers treating me like Siri with legs. My whole body ached. My brain begged for sleep.

But the mark on my wrist burned.

It had burned all day under the apron, a steady pulse of heat like a second heartbeat I didn’t ask for. Every time I looked at it, the glow seemed stronger, sharper, like it was daring me to forget what had happened.

I shoved my hands in my jacket pockets and kept walking, muttering under my breath. “It’s fine. I’m fine. Totally fine. Just another day in the life of Nanya: underpaid, overworked, and apparently cursed. Lovely.”

The city buzzed with traffic and neon lights, but I couldn’t shake the weight pressing on my shoulders. That prickling sensation, the one that makes you feel like someone is staring at you.

Naturally, considering my experience last night, you'd think I would run... hahaha I didn't, instead...

I slowed. Looked around. Nothing. Just people, cars, the usual chaos... I looked again

Then I saw him.

Leaning against a wall under a flickering streetlight, like he belonged there. Hands in his coat pockets, shoulders loose, but his eyes locked on me. Watching. Always watching.

Of course it was him.

I should have screamed. Or run. Or at least pretended not to notice. Instead, my mouth betrayed me. “Do you follow all the girls you doom, or am I just special?”

He didn’t laugh. He didn’t even blink. He pushed off the wall and walked toward me, slow and steady. Each step made the mark flare hotter until I had to clench my fists to hide the tremor.

His scent hit before he got close. clean, sharp, like storms and smoke, with something warm underneath that made my chest tighten. He smelled way too good for someone who was supposed to be the root of my nightmare.

When he stopped in front of me, the world shrank to just him. His presence was overwhelming, pressing against my lungs until I couldn’t breathe right.

“You should have died,” he said flatly. No greeting. No preamble. Just that.

I blinked at him. “Wow. Hello to you too. Great opener. Very polite.”

His mouth twitched, not in a smile. In annoyance. “Sarcasm won’t change the truth. You were not meant to survive. I broke the law to save you, and because of that, the balance is ruined.”

I crossed my arms to keep from trembling. “Balance? Law? What are you, a cosmic accountant?”

His eyes narrowed, sharp as knives. “You joke because you’re afraid. And yes, I can hear it.”

I froze. “Excuse me?”

He leaned in slightly, his voice low and merciless. “Your thoughts are loud, Nanya. You’re wondering why I smell the way I do. You’re cataloging every detail of me while pretending you hate my presence. And deep down, you’re already falling.”

Heat shot to my face so fast I thought I’d combust. “I am not”

“Yes, you are.” His tone was final, cutting me off like a blade. “It doesn’t matter. Your attraction is irrelevant. You’ll be dead soon.”

The words landed like ice water dumped on my head.

I tried to laugh, to make it sound like a joke. “You keep saying that like you’re proud of it.”

“I’m not proud. I’m annoyed,” he snapped. “You shouldn’t exist anymore. The fact that you do makes you my problem. And I don’t want problems.”

I swallowed hard, trying to ignore the way his nearness scrambled my brain. “So let me get this straight. You saved me, you branded me with this...” I yanked up my sleeve, shoving the glowing mark in his face, “and now you’re mad that I’m not dead?”

His gaze flicked to the mark, then back to me, and for a flicker of a second, I thought I saw guilt. But it vanished as quickly as it came.

“You should be grateful I intervened at all,” he said coldly. “Instead, you stand here whining like a child.”

I bristled. “Excuse me for not throwing a thank you parade for the guy who tells me I’m doomed every five minutes.”

He stepped closer, so close I could feel his breath against my cheek. My stupid heart betrayed me, pounding faster, harder. I hated it. I hated that part of me noticed how sharp his jawline was, how his eyes seemed endless, how his scent made my knees weak.

“Stop it,” I whispered before I could think.

“Stop what?” His voice dropped lower, sharper.

“Reading me like a diary.” My throat felt tight. “You don’t know me.”

“I know enough,” he said, eyes locking on mine. “I know you want to pretend you’re brave. I know you mask fear with sarcasm. I know you’d rather bite than break. And I know that, despite everything, part of you is already drawn to me.”

My breath caught. He wasn’t wrong, and that terrified me more than anything.

I shook my head. “This is insane. I’m not, this isn’t...”

“You don’t have to admit it,” he said, stepping back finally, giving me air but leaving me reeling. “But attraction won’t save you. Nothing will.”

The mark on my wrist flared, hotter than ever. I gasped, clutching it. “Why does it do that?”

“Because your body is counting down.” His words were merciless. “Every burn, every pulse, brings you closer to the end. You are alive on borrowed time, and when it runs out” He leaned in again, eyes hard as stone. “No god will save you. Not even me.”

My stomach twisted, a cold knot of fear and anger tangling together.

I forced a bitter laugh. “So what now? I just wait around until I drop dead? Great plan. Solid life advice.”

He tilted his head, unimpressed. “If you value the days you have left, don’t waste them.”

And with that, he turned, walking into the shadows like he owned them.

I stood frozen, my wrist throbbing, my mind a mess of denial and unwanted desire. My heart hammered too fast, too loud, and I hated that part of me wanted to chase after him.

“God help me,” I whispered. “I think I’m already falling.”

The mark burned in reply, and I knew my nightmare was just getting started.

  • MY SAVING DOOM    THE SILENCE YOU LEFT BEHIND.

"Come in," Ryan ordered calmly. The front door opened almost immediately and another young man dressed in the same black suit stepped inside. He walked straight to Ryan, leaned closer and whispered something into his ear.I couldn't hear a single word.Ryan's expression didn't change. Not even slightly."Excuse me for a moment, ma'am," he said politely before following the young man outside.I watched them leave.Even that made me anxious.Every movement.Every whisper.Every unfamiliar face.Everything suddenly felt suspicious. The mansion that had felt so warm last night now felt impossibly cold.Almost empty.Almost...Lonely."Would you like anything for breakfast, ma'am?" Evelyn asked softly.I didn't even look at her."No."My voice came out much colder than I intended."I'm not hungry."She

  • MY SAVING DOOM    WHERE IS DAMIAN

The moment I realized Damian wasn't beside me, every trace of sleep disappeared.I sat upright so quickly that the blanket slipped onto my lap. My eyes immediately searched the room, expecting to find him standing by the window or walking out of the bathroom.Nothing.The room was quiet.Too quiet."Damian?"No response.A strange feeling settled in my chest. It wasn't just worry. It was fear. The kind that arrives without permission and refuses to explain itself.I quickly climbed out of bed, barely taking the time to throw on a robe before rushing downstairs."Damian?"My voice echoed through the enormous mansion.Still nothing.I searched the living room. The dining area. The kitchen.Every room I could think of.Nothing."Damian!" I called again, louder this time. The silence answered me."No... no, no, no..."I immediately turned and ran back upstairs, checking every room one after another even though I knew how ridiculous it was. There weren't that many places he could possibly

  • MY SAVING DOOM    NO MORE MARK

"What's wrong?" Damian asked calmly as he wrapped a large towel around my shoulders before I could even process what had happened. The calmness in his voice almost made me believe he had been expecting this reaction all along."It's gone, Damian!" I exclaimed, my voice echoing through the bathroom. My hands instinctively searched the place where the mark had always been. "It's gone... it vanished!""What vanished?" he asked, tilting his head with an innocent expression that fooled absolutely nobody.I narrowed my eyes at him."You know exactly what I'm talking about."He remained silent."The mark, Damian." My voice trembled as I looked at him again. "The mark is gone. I'm free... we're free."A soft laugh escaped him.It wasn't mocking. It wasn't even surprised. It was the quiet laugh of someone watching a long awaited moment finally arrive. Then, without warning, every bit of excitement inside me disappeared.A cold feeling spread through my body. The smile slowly slipped from my fa

  • MY SAVING DOOM    Home

When we were done with dinner, Damian drove us away from the restaurant without saying much. The drive back was surprisingly quiet, but it wasn't an uncomfortable silence. It was the kind of silence that settled naturally between two people who had already said everything that needed saying for the day.I rested my head against the window, watching the city lights streak past. Every now and then I'd steal a glance at him.His eyes remained on the road. One hand rested confidently on the steering wheel while the other occasionally found mine, intertwining our fingers for a few seconds before returning to the wheel. It was such a simple gesture, yet it made my heart flutter every single time.A part of me still couldn't believe this was my life.Just this morning I had quit my job.Confronted my mother.Watched my ex publicly humiliate himself. And somehow, I was ending the day beside a man who made all those painful memories seem... smaller."You've been staring at me for the last five

  • MY SAVING DOOM    THE NIGHT MICHEAL KNELT

After our dishes had been served and everyone had settled in, I genuinely thought maybe, just maybe, we would all eat in uncomfortable silence.I should have known better.Because Lara clearly didn't come here to eat.She came to perform."So, Nanya," she began, lifting her glass delicately like she was hosting some expensive interview, "Michael here told me he ran into you recently."I looked up from my food."Oh?""Yes." She smiled smugly. "You work in a café, don't you? What happened?"There it was.The insult.Freshly plated alongside dinner.I swallowed calmly and smiled. "Well, it's a lot more peaceful there than corporate drama.""Peaceful?" she repeated before letting out a laugh that was honestly too loud for a human being.Michael chuckled too.Annoying pair. For a brief moment, I wondered if they had practiced this before coming here. Maybe they sat in front of a mirror together rehearsing ways to sound superior. If they did, I had to admit the effort was impressive. Then M

  • MY SAVING DOOM    DINNER WITH MY DEMONS

Following my gaze, Damian turned slightly toward the entrance.I truly tried.Honestly tried.Tried not to think anything at all because I knew fully well he would hear every single thought that crossed my mind, and right now my thoughts were not exactly holy. But guess what?I couldn’t help it.Because standing there was Michael. The Michael. Not some random Michael. Not another Michael. The Michael. The same man who had once convinced me that love was a beautiful thing only to personally turn around and beat that belief to death with emotional bricks.Of all the expensive restaurants in all the city, this man chose this one?Tonight? With me here? And with her?Because apparently life enjoyed creative suffering. There seemed to be an issue with their reservation because the receptionist kept apologizing while Lara kept talking with exaggerated hand gestures like the world was ending simply because she couldn’t get immediate access to overpriced food.Good.Let her suffer.Let her su

  • MY SAVING DOOM    ... I DID.

When I walked into my apartment that evening, I half expected him to be there. It was ridiculous, honestly. The way my heart lifted just a little before crashing right back into my chest like a stone in water. The room was empty. Too empty. The kind of empty that echoed. I’d never realized silence

  • MY SAVING DOOM    I CAN FEEL YOU EVERYWHERE

The world tilted—just slightly at first—before the noise came rushing back. The hum of the espresso machine. The faint hiss of milk steaming. The clatter of a spoon. And then—her voice.“A latte with almond milk,” the woman at the counter said, tapping her nails impatiently against the glass.I bli

  • MY SAVING DOOM    MADE OF FIRE AND SILENCE

The streets were painted in the bruised colors of dusk when I stepped out of the café, keys jingling in my hand. The evening air was crisp, cool enough to raise goosebumps on my arms, but my chest felt strangely light. For once, there were no omens, no strange energy pulsing under my skin. Just the

  • MY SAVING DOOM    BETWEEN LATTES AND LAUGHTERS

The morning sunlight spilled through the café’s front window, throwing golden stripes across the floor. For once, it didn’t feel like an accusation. It felt… earned.I pushed open the door with my hip, balancing two trays of freshly brewed coffee and the remains of my last nerve.“Good morning, wor
