CHAPTER 4: MONSTER IN SHINING ARMOR?

LIANA'S POV.

The atmosphere around us was tense. Hostility brewed as both sides glared at each other, growling.

The man I was with and who came to my rescue was Trevor, son of the former Alpha, "The Alpha Who never was," as he was known by.

"How dare you desecrate these grounds, with your presence? Still want to take the life of another Alpha? I'm not that easy to kill, nephew," Alpha Roderick said in a disdainful tone and hateful look.

Trevor's eyes were filled with murderous intent as he faced off with his uncle.

"And what are you doing holding a member of my pack in such a manner?" Alpha Roderick's eyes darted from him to me.

Things were about to escalate and insignificant me was found in the middle of it.

"Step aside!" Trevor said calmly, but with a firmness that was threatening.

Alpha Roderick scoffed. "You dare order me?" He walked closer, nonverbally daring Trevor.

"Dad," Carl called as he walked toward us. "I was about to get a response from Liana about my proposal when he rudely interrupted."

"What did you say? You prop-" Alpha Roderick halted, closing his eyes as he sighed, gritting his teeth. He tried to hide his disappointment but I could see it.

Just like in my past reality, he was also disappointed here. He never regarded me then, and it was no different this time either.

"Step aside, Roderick," Trevor demanded again, his voice becoming a bit more intense.

Alpha Roderick looked around assessingly. Then he chuckled.

"You got yourself some thugs I see. That's what gave you the impetus to come, huh?"

Trevor just glared at him. I could see a deep-seated hate in those golden eyes of his. His men on the other hand itched to spill blood, to tear the place down.

"Let's let him leave. We wouldn't want to cause a ruckus at such a peaceful gathering with dignified guests. Besides, we know who'd get hurt if there were to be a breakout of violence," Jordan, Alpha of the West Bank Pack asserted.

"Okay then. You may leave, but not with her. She is ours," Alpha Roderick said.

My heart raced, afraid to be left with my pack, knowing the fate that awaited me if I remained, and I was worried about the unknown if I followed the Alpha slayer.

Not even bothering to respond to them, Trevor began walking away, with me in his arms.

"I made it clear that she goes nowhere!" Alpha Roderick snarled, grabbing me by the wrist. "She is ours."

"I'm afraid not," Trevor responded.

"What do you mean?" Narnia inquired.

'Yeah! What do you mean?' I pondered, furrowing my brow.

"She's my mate. She's been marked."

My eyes widened, stunned at his revelation.

'What the...'

I instantaneously had a flashback of my time with him in his suite. I did feel a sharp sting when he kissed me on the neck.

'That's what he meant by 'We're not done yet.' Having sex with me was never his intention. Marking me must have been part of the agreement,' I reasoned quickly.

Alpha Roderick looked at my neck, his look turning even more furious. I saw the look of shock in his eyes and that was confirmation that I was actually marked.

"How dare you?!" He fumed, his voice getting loud. His men advanced toward us, and Trevor's men did. Others emerged from the crowd, surprising everyone.

Alpha Roderick looked around, unable to take action. He just sulked. They were unaware that his men had infiltrated the place long before now.

"Once again I say, 'Step aside!'" Trevor said, walking closer to Alpha Roderick.

Still sulking, he stepped aside. Then Trevor led me out.

"Are you just going to let him take her, Dad?" Carl asked, his tone expressing anger.

His father didn't even bother to respond. He just glared at us in anger.

Carl turned to me, giving me a look I was conversant with - that furious look when he was about to hit me.

"So you're just going to stand there and let this murderer claim you, and take you away? You think you're better off with him than with me?" Carl said.

"I'll take my chances," I blurted unconsciously, recalling how I died at his hands and Vicky's.

Carl puffed in anger. He was surprised I had the boldness to respond.

"She's just a worthless wolfless runt anyway. You'd be helping us get rid of a dead weight," Alpha Roderick said.

"I dare you to say that about her again!"

Trevor didn't need to raise his voice to be threateningly intimidating. Alpha Roderick gritted his teeth, sulking.

He moved out of the way, and then we walked out.

It was the first time I ever saw Alpha Roderick disarmed. He always seemed so invincible, his decisions incontestable. But he was humbled before our very eyes.

That was a first!

A fleet of Range Rover SUVs drove and parked in front of us. One of the men opened the door and Trevor led me in like a gentleman who took his lady out on a date.

They drove off, taking me to God-knows-where. I hadn't been to this side of the city, even though I'd spent most of my life in *****

I didn't look back. I treated everyone in there as my past - a past I was gladly leaving for good.

The drive to where we were headed was awkwardly quiet. Trevor didn't spare me a glance, and I couldn't muster the boldness to look at him either.

But for the first time in a very long time, I never felt this safe. And I felt so with a total stranger. Quite the irony I'd say.

No one had ever defended me before. It was the first of its kind. It left quite an impression on me.

We arrived at a location, far out in the woods. It had a Victorian-style sort of building. It looked abandoned. The old rusty metal gates must have creaked open, giving us access to the large yard. It had enough room to park all five of the cars.

The car drove me and Trevor parked right in front of the building, and he got out first. One of the men opened the door to my side, so I got out.

I followed him into the house. Just two of the men followed us in. We took the stairs up and arrived at what seemed to be the primary bedroom.

"Do you need anything, boss?" one of the men asked.

"I'm good, Boraz," Trevor replied. He nodded, then he shut the door, leaving just the two of us in the room, as before.

Trevor took off his suit, then he poured himself a drink.

"I- I uh- I'd like to thank you. For um... Saving me." I stuttered, trying to make out the words.

He gulped the drink and sighed, then he turned to me. His steps were slow but heavy, making the wooden floor underneath us creak.

"You ruined my plans, so now, I shall ruin yours, impersonator!" he said, casually, wearing an unfriendly look.

My heart began racing exponentially.

I thought I had managed to escape the fate that awaited me. But it seems like I found myself in something far worse.

Was my second chance for nothing?

CHAPTER 78: MYSTERY.LIANA'S POV.The moment was magical. The timing couldn't have been more perfect. What made it feel even more thrilling was the fact that it was unexpected and spontaneous. As I held on to Trevor, kissing him, I wished we'd never let go. I wanted the moment to last forever. When our lips parted, it made a slurping sound. With our foreheads on each other's, we both took deep breaths, exhaling. Trevor took a step back and looked at me with so much affection. We let our eyes do the communicating."Boss?" Boraz called out suddenly as he approached us. His sudden emergence slightly startled me, and Trevor surprisingly also. I cleared my throat and looked away, feeling shy that he saw me alone with Trevor. Trevor, on the other hand, seemed to handle the surprise appearance better than I did. "You're needed inside, Boss. A lot of the guests and dignitaries wonder where you vanished to," Boraz explained."Okay. Thank you, Trevor replied with his gaze still on me. "Let

CHAPTER 77: JUST THE TWO OF US.LIANA'S POV.For some reason, I found myself fidgeting in the presence of Tessa. Well, I always did. This had been the case for a long time. There was something about her that terrified me. She was just like her father. Maybe it's because she was raised by a fierce man like Alpha Khole, as an only child. She had to be raised like her male counterparts since the burden of leadership fell to her, unfortunately. Even her male friends feared her. None of them dared to cross her. They knew what she was capable of doing. Not only was she a strong fighter, but she also had razor-sharp wits and cunning. So, yeah. It'll be natural for her to want a person like Trevor, who could complement and match her energy. Tessa's grip on my elbow wasn't only tight; it was hurting me. I winced in pain, trying to break her grip without creating a scene. It was obvious she wanted the opposite."What are you still doing around my Trevor? I warned you, didn't I?" she said th

CHAPTER 76: THE INAUGURATION.LIANA'S POV. Alpha Roderick's presence at the inauguration ceremony was an unexpected development. I honestly didn't think he'd have the guts to show up, uninvited.Trevor's anger was visible, clearly written all over his face. I'm sure that if it was totally up to him, he'd have had a very minimal ceremony, with a select few guests - probably just the board members, less than a handful of reporters who'd spread the word about the transition of power from Morgan Baxter to him.As the elevator dinged open, we saw Morgan Baxter standing in the hallway. He held a file in both hands. We stepped out of the elevator and headed to the office."Me Vanderholt," he greeted, bowing. Trevor didn't even care to respond. He just stretched his hand, and he received the file. He began going through it even before we got into his office. Trevor stopped by the door and continued looking at it intently. He nodded his head satisfactorily."It's perfect.""Thank you," Morga

CHAPTER 75: UNEXPECTED GUESTS.TREVOR'S POV. I decided to take the portrait in the study along with me as I left the study and headed back to my bedroom. I made a mental note to have it hung at a designated spot I had chosen. I looked at it one more time and sighed. "I wish you were here." I was really emotional at this point. But I quickly pulled myself together. There was no time to let myself wallow in self-pity, and eventually depression. But if I'm being honest, it has been hard not to let myself get to this point even though it has been more than a decade since I lost themI hit the shower and had a warm bath. When I was done and walked into the walk-in closet, my eyes fell on a suit that stood out as it was separated from the rest. Boraz made sure I didn't mix it up. I was impressed by how nice it looked. I went ahead and got dressed. I decided to style my hair. Nothing serious, though. I paired the suit with a nice pair of Chelsea boots. Looking at myself in the mirror, I

  • Marked By The Alpha Who Never Was    BEFORE THE INAUGURATION.

CHAPTER 74: BEFORE THE INAUGURATION.LIANA'S POV. I woke like every other day, but this day was like every other day. It was the D-Day - it was the day slated for Trevor's official takeover of power before the eyes of the world, manifesting what he had done behind the scenes. But you know what's funny? I did nothing. Yeah. Absolutely nothing. I was unaware that a committee had already been set up and had been working behind the scenes. Heck, Gwendolyn even headed that committee, despite her busy daily schedule at the office.I sat down before Trevor in his study while he, Gwendolyn, and Boraz went through the lists of guests and dignitaries, most of which were unfamiliar to me. "Has this person been called? Has that person been called? Was the email sent to so and so?" Trevor confirmed and re-confirmed if the invitation reached the designated individuals. And all the responses he got were positive. I was glad that it went as planned. But the idleness was frustrating me. "The con

CHAPTER 73: THE NIGHT VISIT.TREVOR'S POV.Later that day, we were in the elevator, heading down to the hotel. We were leaving. I looked at the piece of paper that the elemental witch scribbled on. It was her phone number she wrote on it. I found myself letting out a mild chuckle. "Is anything the matter, sir?" Liana asked, having heard the sound that proceeded from me. "Not at all," I replied. Diana had left already. The elevator dinged open, and we walked out. A man whom I recognized from the previous day after I arrived and lodged in the hotel hurried toward us. It was the Manager of the hotel."Good morning, Mr Vanderholt," he gave a generous smile. "Manager," I responded."I was headed over to the penthouse. But it seems like you're heading out," the manager said."No. We're leaving," I replied."You're leaving already?" His eyes widened in surprise. "Yes. There are things I need to take care of," I answered."I was hoping we'd be able to have a brief discussion, Mr Vanderhol
