Darkness didn’t feel empty.

It felt heavy.

Like something was pulling her under.

Lyra drifted between consciousness and nothingness, her body too weak to respond, her mind too tired to fight. Every breath felt distant, like it belonged to someone else.

But she wasn’t cold anymore.

That was the first thing she noticed.

Warmth surrounded her.

Solid.

Real.

Her brows twitched faintly.

Something moved beneath her.

No—

Someone.

Her breathing faltered.

Slowly, painfully, her eyes fluttered open.

At first, everything was blurred—shadows melting into each other beneath the dim glow of moonlight filtering through the trees.

Then her senses began to return.

The sound of footsteps.

Steady. Controlled.

The rhythmic rise and fall beneath her.

She wasn’t lying down.

She was being carried.

Panic surged weakly through her veins.

Her fingers curled instinctively, clutching onto something firm—fabric. Warm. Real.

“Put me down…” she whispered, her voice barely audible.

The movement didn’t stop.

Didn’t even slow.

A deep voice answered instead.

“You’re not in a position to make demands.”

Her breath caught.

That voice—

Cold.

Controlled.

Dangerous.

Lyra forced her eyes open wider, fighting through the haze.

And then she saw him.

Sharp features carved in shadow and moonlight. Dark eyes, unreadable and intense, fixed ahead as he moved through the forest like he owned it.

No hesitation.

No fear.

Power radiated from him effortlessly.

Her heart stuttered.

Not one of them.

But not safe either.

“Where…” her voice cracked. “Where are you taking me?”

“To my territory.”

Fear tightened her chest instantly.

“No…” she tried to move, but her body refused to obey. “No, I can’t—I can’t stay anywhere. They’ll find me…”

“They already tried.”

Her words died.

His grip on her adjusted slightly—not rough, but firm. Unyielding.

“They won’t take you from me.”

Something about the way he said it—

Not comfort.

Not reassurance.

A promise.

Lyra didn’t know if that made her feel safer… or more afraid.

“You don’t understand,” she whispered, her breathing uneven. “They don’t stop. They never stop.”

Silence followed.

For a moment, she thought he would ignore her.

Then—

“Then they’ll learn.”

Her brows furrowed weakly.

“Learn what…?”

His gaze didn’t shift.

“That they made a mistake.”

A chill ran down her spine.

There was no arrogance in his tone.

No exaggeration.

Just certainty.

And somehow—

That was more terrifying than anything she had left behind.

The forest blurred around them as he moved faster, his steps light despite his size, barely making a sound against the ground.

Lyra’s strength faded again, her head growing heavy.

But something pulled her attention back.

A strange sensation.

Her wrist.

Pain flickered beneath her skin.

Weak at first.

Then sharper.

Lyra gasped softly, her fingers tightening instinctively.

The silver mark pulsed faintly.

Once.

Twice.

Then steadied.

The man carrying her slowed.

Just slightly.

“You felt that,” he said.

It wasn’t a question.

Lyra stiffened weakly.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

A lie.

A weak one.

He stopped.

Completely.

The sudden stillness made her heart pound harder.

“Look at me.”

The command was quiet.

But absolute.

Her body reacted before her mind could stop it.

Her gaze lifted.

Locked with his.

For a moment—

Everything else disappeared.

His eyes were sharp. Piercing. Like they could see through every lie, every secret, every layer she had built to survive.

Her breathing faltered.

Then—

His gaze dropped.

To her wrist.

Lyra reacted instantly, trying to pull her hand away—but she didn’t have the strength.

His grip tightened just enough to stop her.

“What is that?” he asked.

Her pulse spiked.

“Nothing.”

“Don’t lie.”

Her chest rose and fell unevenly.

“I don’t know what it is,” she said quickly. “It just… appeared.”

His expression didn’t change.

But something in his eyes did.

Recognition.

Or suspicion.

Before he could say anything else—

A sound cut through the air.

Footsteps.

Fast.

Approaching.

Lyra froze.

“They found me…” she whispered, panic returning instantly.

A second figure emerged from the trees.

Alert. Focused.

“Alpha,” the man said, slightly breathless. “We picked up movement near the border.”

Alpha.

The word settled heavily in Lyra’s mind.

Her stomach dropped.

Of course.

That explained everything.

The power.

The presence.

The way the forest itself seemed to respond to him.

“Not pack,” the man continued. “Strangers. More than one.”

Lyra’s fear sharpened instantly.

“They’re tracking me,” she said weakly.

The Alpha didn’t look surprised.

He looked… certain.

His gaze shifted back to her.

“You brought them here.”

It wasn’t an accusation.

It was a fact.

Guilt twisted painfully in her chest.

“I didn’t mean to…”

“Intent doesn’t change outcome.”

She swallowed hard.

“Then leave me,” she said suddenly. “Put me down. I’ll go another way.”

The second man—Oliver—tensed.

“That’s not happening.”

Lyra looked at him desperately.

“You don’t understand what they are—”

“And you don’t understand where you are,” Oliver cut in.

The Alpha stepped forward again, still holding her effortlessly.

“This is my territory,” he said calmly.

“No one takes anything from it.”

His words settled into the air like something unbreakable.

Lyra’s heart pounded.

“You don’t know that,” she whispered.

“I don’t guess.”

Silence fell.

Because again—

He was right.

The forest shifted around them as a cold wind passed through, carrying something faint.

A scent.

Lyra felt it instantly.

Her body reacted before her mind did.

“They’re closer,” she whispered, panic creeping back in.

Oliver’s expression darkened.

“You can sense them?”

“I… I don’t know,” she admitted. “It just feels wrong.”

The Alpha didn’t question it.

“Then we move. Now.”

They moved faster this time.

The trees began to thin, the darkness giving way to something more structured.

And then—

Lyra saw it.

A massive structure rising beyond the forest.

Strong.

Guarded.

Alive.

The territory.

Her chest tightened.

This was safety.

Or at least—

It should have been.

“Put me down,” she said again, weaker now.

This time—

He did.

Her legs buckled the moment her feet touched the ground, but she forced herself to stay upright.

Barely.

The Alpha watched her.

Measuring.

Waiting.

“Go,” he said.

Lyra hesitated.

Because something inside her resisted.

Not fear.

Not survival.

Something deeper.

Something she didn’t understand.

The mark on her wrist warmed again.

Reacting.

To him.

His gaze flickered to it.

Then back to her.

“Move.”

This time—

She obeyed.

She stepped forward.

Crossed the invisible boundary.

And the moment she did—

A howl split through the night.

Sharp.

Violent.

Too familiar.

Lyra froze instantly.

Her blood turned to ice.

“No…” she whispered.

Another howl followed.

Closer.

The Alpha turned toward the forest slowly.

His eyes darkened.

Cold.

Lethal.

“They’re here,” Oliver said.

Lyra’s heart slammed violently against her chest.

“They found me…”

The Alpha stepped forward.

Positioning himself between her and the forest.

“Then they made a mistake.”

And for the first time—

Lyra wasn’t running.

But somehow…

That felt even more dangerous.

And suddenly for Lyra everything went black.

“Lyra!”Damon’s voice sounded distant.Muted.Like she was hearing it through water. The courtyard disappeared. The pack disappeared.Everything disappeared. And suddenly—She was somewhere else.Again.But this time it wasn’t the stone chamber beneath the earth. It was a forest.Silent.Silver moonlight poured through ancient trees, illuminating a path she didn’t recognize.Or maybe—A path she had forgotten.Lyra stood alone. Her breathing uneven.“Hello?”No answer.Only silence. Then—A woman stepped out from between the trees.Tall.Beautiful.Terrifying.Her dark hair flowed down her back, and strange black markings curled across her throat and arms like living ink.The same symbols. The same ones appearing on Lyra. The woman smiled softly. And Lyra’s blood ran cold.Because she knew her.Not from memory. From instinct. The way prey recognizes a predator.“You’ve grown,” the woman said. Her voice was calm.Gentle.Which somehow made it worse.Lyra took a step back.“Who are you?

The courtyard stayed silent long after the creatures disappeared. No one knew what to say. What could they say after watching monsters bow to one of their own?Lyra stood frozen in the middle of the ruined stone, Damon beside her, while the rest of the pack watched from a careful distance. Not close. Not comfortable.Distance.That hurt more than she wanted to admit. The elder finally broke the silence first.“This changes everything.”Damon’s expression hardened instantly.“It changes nothing.”Several wolves exchanged uncertain looks.Because everyone knew that wasn’t true. The courtyard was destroyed. The barriers had been breached.Creatures from beneath the earth had called Lyra their queen.Nothing about this was normal anymore.Oliver stepped forward carefully, glancing at Lyra before looking at Damon.“We need to secure the borders first.”Practical.Smart.And thankfully not accusatory.Damon nodded once.“Double patrols tonight. • Marked By The Moon Goddess   CHAPTER 56: Replace the Alpha

Silence hit harder than the battle. Even the creatures stopped moving after the words left its mouth. “She was created to replace you.” Damon stared at it without blinking. The air around him had changed completely now. Not shock. Not confusion. Rage. Pure, controlled rage. Lyra’s breathing became uneven as the black symbols continued spreading beneath her feet like living veins through the cracked earth. “No…” she whispered. But the creature only tilted its head again. “You feel it.” And the worst part— She did. Something inside her had responded the moment it said the words. Not agreement. Recognition. Like an old wound reopening. Oliver shifted back into human form nearby, blood running down one side of his arm as he stared at Lyra in disbelief. “What the hell does that mean?” The first creature finally looked away from her. Toward Damon. “The bloodline weakens. The throne changes. The old Alpha falls.” Several wolves froze completely. Because now— This w

“Return her.” The words echoed long after the creature stopped speaking. The ground beneath the territory still trembled faintly, cracks spreading slowly through the earth like veins beneath skin. No one moved. No one breathed. Because something had answered back. From Lyra. Damon felt it. The warriors felt it. Even the creature standing before them had gone still afterward—as if waiting. Listening. Lyra’s chest rose unevenly. “What did I do…” she whispered. The mark burned brighter. Not wild anymore. Responsive. Awake. Damon stepped closer immediately, placing himself fully between her and the creature again. “You did nothing.” But his voice had changed. Tighter now. Because he heard it too. That second presence beneath her heartbeat. The creature tilted its head slowly. “She remembers.” Lyra’s stomach twisted violently. “No,” she said instantly. “No, I don’t—” Images flashed again. Chains. Stone. Darkness beneath the world. And eyes— Hundreds of eyes
