Chapter: 7

*****

SORA:

Mirabelle Blaster, that name kept playing over and over in my head the entire drive. The Blasters weren’t just powerful; they controlled half of the city. Everyone knew and feared them. Before I could even process everything that was happening and why the hell the fiancée of a billionaire was out in the middle of nowhere so late picking up strays, we arrived in front of a massive iron gate.

When it opened, there was a long driveway, lights shining on our path, and the compound was massive. It was like nothing I’d ever seen before. My eyes were literally glued to the window, staring with my jaw dropped.

I’d seen pictures of the Blaster estate, but I never thought that in an entire lifetime I would ever get the opportunity to step inside it. It all felt like a fever dream… and there was a high possibility that this was actually a dream.

The house…no, mansion — stood tall, a glorious sight.

And after a moment, the car stopped.

Before I could even open the door, servants appeared, moving quickly and quietly toward us. Mirabelle got down first, one of them taking the umbrella from her.

“Get a room ready, the one in the guest wing.” A servant opened my door, and she gestured for me to come.

I hesitated for half a moment, then stepped out with Beauty still in my arms. My legs felt weak, my body exhausted, but the adrenaline pushed me forward. Inside, the estate was even more breathtaking. Was this really happening to me? I asked myself that question till she led me upstairs.

“This… was the guest room?” I asked, looking around. I had no words, not a single word, to describe this place. This was what they considered a guest room. There was a massive bed with a huge blanket, beautiful bedside tables, and extraordinary paintings lining the wall.

“Put her down,” she said, and I did exactly that, laying Beauty on the bed. My hands were shaking as I pulled the covers over her. It was so warm; she sighed softly, curling into the warmth.

Mirabelle turned to the servants. “Bring food…something warm, water, and juice.”

They bowed and left. “It’s already morning, but later today I’ll get someone to look after her, a proper doctor. What I need from you both is to eat and get enough rest. You both have been through so much.”

I felt a kind of relief that I’d never felt before. I had no idea when I fell to the ground and started to thank her. “Thank… you. Thank… you.” I was trying my hardest not to cry.

“Get some rest,” she said. “The food will be here in no time.” And with that, she turned and left.

When the food arrived, I didn’t even recognise half of what was on the tray, but it smelled so good, and there was so much. It looked like it could feed Beauty and me for an entire week. I helped Beauty up, and as I began feeding her, she gave me a smile, and that alone mended my broken heart.

After that, I ate like a man who had no idea where the next meal was going to come from, because I actually didn’t. Everything felt delicious, and it was like nothing my taste buds had ever known. Even with how plentiful the food was, I finished every single bite.

I turned to look at my Angel, who was sleeping peacefully for the first time in days. There was no smell of trash or leaky roofs. Everywhere was warm, just like she liked it. I didn’t think about the job Mirabelle had talked about, because she gave me and my daughter food and shelter. I was ready to do anything for her.

I sat on the bed for a moment, just staring around.

For years, I’d prayed to the Goddess for help.

I never thought she listened. I thought she’d turned her back on me, because all this felt like a dream. I touched the soft bed again to make sure all of this was real. I lay back gently against the bed, and a whimper escaped my lips. Beauty was already far gone, and I closed my eyes too, letting the softness of the bed sink in fully.

When my eyes opened again, the bright morning light was already sipping in through the window. I turned to look at Beauty, but the space beside me was empty. I touched the space where my daughter had been laying, as if I hadn't seen correctly, but it was actually empty.

“Beauty,” I called as panic spread through every inch of my body.

But there was no answer.

My heart began to race as I stumbled to my feet, fear already resting deep inside of me. She had just been right there. I rushed toward the door, throwing it open and stepping into the hallway barefoot.

“Bee,” I called again, louder this time.

Still nothing.

Suddenly, the estate felt like a maze with no end. I moved faster, almost running now. My chest burned as dread settled inside me. My mind raced with a thousand horrible possibilities, then I heard a laugh.

It was hers.

I followed the sound. My steps slowed when I reached a beautiful garden, and there she was, with her small hand in that of a man I couldn’t recognise.

She was smiling, and she looked genuinely happy.

But the thing was, Beauty never warmed up to anyone — he was the first.

His presence was commanding, but the way he was smiling down at her was… beautiful. He held her in place, preventing her from falling when she stumbled.

“Beauty,” I called when I was close enough.

“Papa,” she said, running into my arms. I instantly picked her up.

The man walked toward us. He was dressed in a black suit, his shoulders broad and his eyes breathtaking… I shouldn’t have noticed that.

“Your daughter is really beautiful,” he said with a smile.

“Thank you,” I whispered, smiling back.

“Zane Blaster,” he introduced, stretching his hand.

“Sora,” I replied, taking his hand in mine, and the moment I did, there was this weird sense of déjà vu, like I’d met him before. But I didn’t know when or where.

DAMIEN. Zane trailed behind him, moving at a more relaxed pace, and one hand in his pocket. “Sora, breathe. They're fine. They won't hurt themselves and even if they do they'll get over it.”That was definitely not what Sora was seeing while he tried to capture one of the miscreants. “They are not fine. They are little menaces,” Sora said, getting help from Zane to chase after them.I was smiling at this sight when Beauty appeared from the top of the stairs. Eleven going on twelve, and wearing a comfortable dress of yellow color and her blonde hair messed up from whatever the heck she had been doing previously. The older she got, the more handful she became. Her eyes searched the room as a routine—but fixed on the little redhead standing next to me.The expression of the girl changed instantly. Her eyes softened and got larger, they always were like that when she spotted some things she wanted to hug on sight. I moved my mouth closer to Raymond’s ear and whispered, “She will have a

DAMIEN. I was sitting in the back of that black car and surfing through different flower arrangements on my tablet computer. Being an owner of a floral shop and a wedding planning business I started each day dealing with colors, flower deliveries and brides having a crisis. But today it seemed to be a normal working day until we came to a complete halt.I raised my head and saw a row of cars with nobody moving at all."What is happening?" I asked the driver."Sir, there is an accident up ahead. It looks pretty bad." It was something in his voice that made me put the tablet aside and open the door while he tried to hold me from doing that. I found myself in a crowd of people who were standing around trying to look closer at what was going on. After several apologies to people blocking my way I managed to see the picture. The car was on its side with broken parts scattered on the asphalt. Two bodies covered with white sheets lay nearby and blood spots spread on the road. But the mos

DAMIEN. A Few Months LaterThe church appeared like a dream.Golden rays fell through high windows of stained glasses and lit up the marbled floor with warm patches of light. The rows of white roses and lush greens of flower arrangements decorated every pew. The air was scented with the freshness of flowers, wax and the smell of polished wood. I was standing at the altar wearing my perfectly fitted black suit, feeling my heart beating faster than ever in all fights and arguments. In front of me, Raymond looked so good he was almost distracting me from saying anything I planned to say. He kept looking at me with soft eyes.In the front row, Charles was sitting next to Martin who held his shoulders in a protective embrace. Charles was noticeably plumpier and smiled softly in his formal suit, and it was almost impossible not to notice the swell in his belly. He was glowing with health and slightly uncomfortable, his hand gently holding the bulge while Martin was whispering into his ear

DAMIEN. Raymond stood with his arms crossed in the doorway of the old room. “We have to get our packing done. The moving team will be here on the weekend.” I folded the shirt again. “Postpone it. For just a little while. Cole needs me.” “He has Adam to look out for him. You have me and that means you should be worried about us leaving and not bugging them twenty four seven.” “Adam is good for certain things,” I said dismissively, “but Cole is my brother. It is more important.” Raymond raised his eyebrow. “You are stalling.” “I am taking care of my family first. Is there a problem with that?”He sighed. "It's like seeing the demon incarnated before my very eyes." Not bothered with his reaction, Raymond grinned madly, shaking his head and looking back at me. “And what am I?”I frowned. He asked me a trick question. So, is that what you are trying to do? “My future husband, that is not my family yet.”“You are being a brat.” “Oh, really?” I exclaimed, shocked, placing my h

DAMIEN. I was waiting outside the hospital room with my arms crossed and tapping my foot on the smooth floor. Raymond was standing there quietly in his usual way and not saying anything much. Every time the door handle turned a little bit, I would look up. Waiting made me sick in my stomach and not knowing made it even worse. I was in a foul mood and half afraid too. Cole was looking so pale the other day, and the whole issue of the pregnancy made me feel ill inside.Adam came out of the room first followed by Cole. Cole looked tired and pale but he was able to walk. I felt so relieved that I started walking towards them. Before I reached them, I felt Raymond’s hand on my wrist. “Give him some space.” Since when did he know what I needed to do? Fine, he was right most of the time but not at this moment. I moved to protest, but the look in Raymond’s eyes silenced the words before they could form. Instead, I stood watching as Adam led Cole down the hall to the private exit. There w

ADAM. The text from Damien came right when I was going over the quarterly reports.I looked at it, finger poised over the screen, and almost deleted the message before reading it. Damien was known for sending over-dramatic messages about nothing, but today seemed to be dragging on. I flipped my phone upside down and tried to get my attention back on the figures on my desk. “I see you getting a message.” Zane broke into my reverie with that deep voice of his. I looked up, saw Zane staring at me above his laptop, his expression calm but curious in that way he always was when I was doing something wrong. “Damien,” I said to answer his question. “Tell me to go to the family hospital.” “Why does he need you there?” Zane asked, and I saw his hands freeze on the keyboard. “Ask him.”I took my phone and messaged him again. “What's wrong?”He was quick, typing back. “It’s about Cole.” I repeated the words like a robot half minded with worry. Zane sprang to his feet. "What happened
