EDEN

Silence fills the room as Juliet drops the bomb. Then Hayden's head dips slightly. His eyelids droop, another brutal shiver running through him.

"Hayden?" Juliet says.

He tries to open his eyes again, but they're unfocused.

"Hey—stay with us," I whisper, tears stinging my eyes.

Juliet touches his neck. Her expression turns alarmed immediately.

"He's freezing."

"I know,” I whimper.

Another shudder rolls through him.

"Eden," Juliet says urgently. “Bring more blanket

[SONG OF THE CHAPTER: MOUNT EVEREST BY LABRINTH]HAYDEN Will slowly lowers his cigarette, staring at me with a blank expression. The other two men don't look amused anymore. The bearded one's jaw is clenched, and the clean-shaven one's eyes have gone flat and cold.I know I've pissed them off. Will exhales a slow stream of smoke, then stubs the cigarette out on the arm of his chair. He stands up and walks towards me, stopping just a few feet away."You've got quite a mouth on you," he says. "Even after what we just did to you."I lift my chin and meet his gaze, refusing to look away. Will tilts his head."You think you're strong because you survived Rachel?" he asks. "You think that makes you untouchable?" He lets out a soft, humourless laugh. "She was sloppy and emotional. We're not."He crouches down so we're at eye level. His voice lowers."You want to know what we're going to do to you now?"I don't answer. Will smiles."We're going to keep you here for a while. Days. May

  • Married To My Billionaire Nemesis   143: Can You Break Me?

TW: Mentions of violence and mild assault.HAYDEN The back of the police cruiser smells wrong. It's too clean. Like it's brand new. The two officers in the front haven't said a single word to each other since they put me in here. Not even a glance in the rearview mirror.Something is off.I shift in the seat, testing the cuffs behind my back. The metal bites into my wrists. I keep my expression neutral, but my pulse is starting to climb. The officer in the passenger seat turns slightly, like he's adjusting his seatbelt. His eyes meet mine in the mirror for a second too long. That's when I know. These aren't cops.I lunge forward just as the driver slams on the brakes. The car jerks hard. Before I can get my balance, the passenger twists around and shoves something over my face. The sharp, chemical sweetness of chloroform suffocates me.I thrash hard, slamming my shoulder into the door, kicking out with both legs. My feet connect hard with the back of the driver's seat. The man gr

EDEN I wake up to the soft sound of Nora's giggles coming from downstairs. For a moment, I just lie there, listening. It's been a while since I've heard her laugh like that in the morning. I push the covers off and quietly make my way down the stairs, still in my oversized sleep shirt. When I reach the living room, I stop in the doorway.Hayden is sitting on the floor with his back against the couch, his legs stretched out. Nora is perched happily on his lap, surrounded by a small mountain of stuffed animals and soft blocks. His eyes are half-lidded with exhaustion, dark circles heavy underneath them. I can tell he didn't sleep at all last night. But he's still here. Still playing with her.Nora is currently trying to shove a small plush rabbit into his hands."Dada," she says, very seriously.Hayden gives her a soft smile. "Thank you, baby."She takes the rabbit back immediately, as if she changed her mind, and hugs it to her chest. Then she looks up at him again, her big ey

  • Married To My Billionaire Nemesis   141: Playing The Long Game

HAYDEN The parking garage is quiet when we arrive.I walk behind Jeremy's wheelchair, one hand on the handle. He's slouched in the seat, looking drained. A few feet behind us, two of my men push the second wheelchair—the one carrying a dummy.I dislike the idea of putting Jeremy in the line of fire like this. Even with the plan in place, even knowing that my men are positioned everywhere, a part of me still wants to turn back and take him home. But we need them to believe that we are playing by their rules. We need them to be arrogant.I had spent the last few hours negotiating with them to move the exchange to midnight, letting them believe they were the ones in control.Jeremy shifts slightly in the wheelchair. A small shiver runs through him, and I notice the way his fingers curl tighter around the blanket in his lap.Without saying anything, I reach down and pull the fabric higher, tucking it more securely around his chest and shoulders.Jeremy glances up at me as we roll

  • Married To My Billionaire Nemesis   140: A Hard Bargain

EDEN My eyes are locked on the photo, but my brain refuses to process it. My thumb trembles as I zoom in, desperate to find some proof that this is fake—deepfake, a cruel joke, anything. But it's not.The bruises around my mother's wrists are dark and fresh. Her skin is red and raw where the ropes have dug in. The timestamp in the corner says the photo was taken only fourteen minutes ago.Hayden gently takes the phone from my hand. Neither of us speaks. We'd both stepped out of the room minutes ago.Hayden stares at the photo for a long moment. His expression doesn't harden with rage. It becomes frighteningly blank. He turns to the men standing nearby and starts speaking, his voice steady as he hands my phone over."Trace the number. Now. I want every possible location it's pinged from in the last hour."One of the men immediately pulls out his phone."Pull up every CCTV camera within a five-mile radius of Eden's mother's house. I want footage from the last two hours."Anot

  • Married To My Billionaire Nemesis   139: Crimson Haze

EDEN There's so much blood. It's everywhere on Jeremy's shirt, on Hayden's arms, and on the floor of the living room where they laid him down. The metallic scent fills the air, making my stomach tighten.Jeremy is barely conscious. His eyes are half-lidded, his skin deathly pale under the smears of blood. The scar across his stomach has split open. The towels someone had pressed against it are soaked through. His whole body trembles as if he's freezing, even though the room is warm."Stay with me, Jer," Hayden mutters as he presses down harder on the wound. His voice is tense with panic. "Don't you dare close your eyes."I stand frozen a few feet away, my hands covering my mouth. I've never seen this much blood before. Not in real life. Two of the private doctors we keep on retainer, Dr Henry and Dr Grant, are already on their knees beside Jeremy, cutting away what's left of his shirt with quick movements. Another doctor, a woman I've only seen once before, is setting up an IV
