Mag-log inLucas's POVBOOM!The entire floor under us violently shook. Dust rained down from the ceiling, and the glass windows rattled in their frames."Lucas!" Amelia gasped, instantly sitting up in bed, her eyes wide with shock. "What was that?!"I had no idea what it could be either. But I threw the blankets aside and began pulling my pants on and grabbing my shirt in a fraction of a second. "Stay behind me!"Loud gunfire and shouting instantly erupted from the lower level. Boots were pounding up the wooden stairs leading directly to my private hallway."It sounds like we're under attack," I informed Amelia. She gasped in horror. "Attack? By whom? Is Ronan here with his men?""Just stay here!" I reached under the pillow, pulling out my sidearm, and stepped in front of Amelia just as my bedroom door was kicked violently off its hinges. The wood splintered with a loud crack, swinging open to reveal Jax standing in the hallway, holding an assault rifle. Behind him were half a dozen armed men.
Amelia's POV I whimpered, thrilled beyond belief with the images of what he wanted to do with me, to me, but so desperate to have that massive ridge of male heat inside me I thought I might die.Wanting to at least feel him in my hand, to see if I could even close it around him, I stepped closer and reached for his elastic waistband. I tugged it down, letting the back of my fingers brush against the smooth, warm skin, silky soft yet hard, and drew in a satisfied breath when he quivered in reaction.“I’d say we both have a lot to do,” I whispered.Oh, such a lot. So fucking much.I took as much as I could of him into my palm and stroked, hearing him hiss out a low, controlled breath. If I had my way, he wouldn’t maintain that control for long. “Wait…” “You’re the one who wanted to do lots of other things.” I joked.“Yeah, I wanted to do them to you.” “Fair’s fair,” I insisted as I slowly stroked him, letting his body’s moisture dampen my palm, making each stroke more slick and easy
Amelia's POVThat was all he seemed to have been waiting for. Lucas slid his hands into her hair and cupped my head, pulling me toward him so he could claim my mouth. His lips tasted metallic and sharp, the taste of undiluted whiskey. Had he been drinking? I thought, but his sobriety was the last thing on my mind as I deepened the kiss, taking his tongue into my mouth. His tongue played around with mine, and I almost lost it.I wrapped my arms around his neck as he leaned down and grabbed my buttocks, pulling me even closer. I could feel the hardness of his erection pressing against my groin. He was hard for me.I sucked in a breath through my nose and grabbed his shirt to balance myself, ending the kiss. “God, I want you,” he muttered, then he went back to tasting every corner of my mouth. We didn’t say it, didn’t speak it. I merely reached for his shirt and tugged it free from his pants, then slipped my hands against his bare stomach. He hissed against my mouth, not because we were
Lucas's POVOnce the surviving members of Ronan’s squad finally scattered and retreated back into the foggy tree line, the gunfire died down completely. My men gave a few victorious shouts, but my mind wasn't on the victory. I stepped behind a thick cluster of pine trees, my heart hammering against my ribs as I forced my body to shift back into human form. I pulled my spare pants and shirt from my bike bag, pulling them on with speed. Then I turned around, wiping mud and sweat off my face, and walked back out toward the truck. The moment my eyes landed on Amelia standing right beside the open passenger door, shock and sheer horror hit me like a bucket of ice water. I had seen her when I was in my wolf form, but it suddenly dawned on me that she was actually here. She had followed me into a bloody war zone. Then intense anger filled me, hotter than the shift itself."Are you out of your mind?" I roared, striding toward the truck with furious steps. "Amelia, what the hell were you think
Amelia's POVI had disobeyed Lucas, because I was curled up under a tarp in the bed of his truck, my knees pulled tightly toward my chest as the vehicle bounced over the rough dirt path.I had snuck into the back before sunrise, hiding behind a pile of spare tires and toolboxes before he and his men rode out. I knew Lucas was hiding something from me. He had been far too intense when he talked about that plant, far too eager to leave me behind in the house. I had to know what he was really walking into. When the truck finally came to a stop near the border mountains, I had stayed hidden, waiting until they moved into the trees before slipping out of the truck bed and into the cabin to watch from the back window. Now, the peaceful morning was filled with the sound of gunfire and men shouting.Through the dirt-streaked glass of the back window, I could see the chaos unfolding near the mouth of the cave. Muzzle flashes lit up the grey mist like terrifying sparks of lightning. Lucas and h
Lucas's POVI led my small team through the thick, grey fog which was around the base of the border mountains. The air was freezing, so cold that every breath we blew out turned into a white cloud in front of our faces. We had parked our motorcycles half a mile back, hidden under camouflage nets in a dense ditch, and were now moving on foot toward the shadowed caverns where the Sun-Root grew. I kept my hand resting near the butt of my sidearm, my eyes moving across the thick tree line on either side of us.Jax walked right behind me, slinging a duffel bag over his shoulder, while Miller, Mason and Hawke trailed close by.Looking at the four of them, anyone else would see a rough, dangerous bunch of outlaws. But to me, they were family. They were a motley crew of rogue wolves, mostly guys who had been cast out and abandoned by their original packs, or left to starve in the cold border lands years ago. I had picked each of them up from the dirt when they had nothing left, brought them i
