LOGINCHAPTER 2
KATRINA
“You’re on private property. Stay away from the border,” that man barked harshly, waving me off like I was nothing but a stray animal.
“Beggars are not allowed here!” another guard shouted from behind him, his voice dripping with disgust. That's not very nice.
Well, how could I possibly get inside a place like this, looking the way I do?
But whatever. I’ve come this far.
I might as well try.
It’s not like I’ll drop dead just for taking a chance.
So I stepped forward but it was enough to set them off.
“THIS AREA IS RESTRICTED FROM OUTSIDERS!” Before I could even take another breath, they charged toward me, determined to chase me off.
I held my ground and let out a deep breath.
“It’s freezing out here and yet your tempers are blazing hot. You don’t even know who I am, and already you’re ready to throw me out?”
They hesitated, slightly thrown off by my calmness or maybe by the nerve I had to talk back.
“Well,” I continued, lifting my chin with defiance. "Your master... the one you call Prince Percival Pierre Cario... is my fiancé.”
Right then, a powerful gust of wind swept through the grounds.
The dry leaves on the path stirred violently, caught in the sudden rush of air. They scattered and danced between us, swirling past our feet.
And in that moment, not one of them moved.
A tense silence settled between us.
The four guards exchanged glances, as if silently confirming something among themselves, then all turned to glare at me with the same sharp, disapproving look as if I was filth they couldn’t wait to get rid of.
I forced down the lump forming in my throat, swallowing hard, though it did little to calm the nerves building inside me.
“STEP BACK AND GO HOME!”
The command came out like a gunshot, echoing in the cold air. One of the guards shouted it so forcefully that my body instinctively tensed, and I had to squeeze my eyes shut for a moment just to collect myself.
Of course, they wouldn’t believe me.
Who would?
Who would believe that someone like me could be the fiancée of their master?
This was my fault but I find it funny though.
I should’ve brought my father with me.
Maybe it would’ve made some difference... or maybe not. Perhaps we’d still end up humiliated, both of us kicked out like we didn’t matter.
What we really needed was someone they knew.
“GET OUT OF HERE!” another guard yelled furiously
I shook my head and turned away from the gate.
I walked further away, until the guards were completely out of sight. But even then, I was still within the estate’s towering brick walls.
Eventually, I slowed to a stop and moved closer to one side of the wall. I leaned my back against it, then let myself slowly sink down onto the grass.
I sat there quietly, staring blankly at the empty road stretched out ahead of me. Not a single car had passed by. Not even the distant sound of an engine. But I wasn’t surprised.
This was private property, after all.
The only reason I’d even been allowed through the village entrance earlier was because I had shown the guard a card, one I wasn’t sure would even work. Thankfully, it had. At least for that part.
As I stared at the tree-covered stretch of road in front of me, I yawned. My body was starting to feel heavy from the long walk.
I let the sounds around me fill the silence. The soft rustling of leaves… the creaking of bamboo swaying gently with the breeze. It was soothing. The air was cool and damp with mist, and birds chirped somewhere up in the trees, their songs echoing through the quiet.
Before I even realized it, my eyes had started to flutter shut.
I caught myself nodding off and forced my body to straighten up. I yawned again, pulled the straps of my backpack off my shoulders, and let it drop to the grass with a soft thud.
“Guess I’ll sleep for a bit…” I muttered.
I used the bag as a pillow and lay down right there on the grass. My skirt was long enough to reach my feet so I curled up and used the fabric as a blanket, folding my legs up underneath me to stay warm.
It probably only took a few minutes before I was completely out.
“KATRINAAA!”
The thunderous voice of my father snapped me awake.
I bolted upright, heart racing, and looked around in a daze, unsure for a moment of where I was or what had just happened.
"Kitty!"
I turned around and I heard Dad's voice coming from behind me.
And I was right. There he was, standing just a few steps behind me, holding the back of his neck with one hand, wincing a little like he was so stressed again.
“I knew it... I just knew you wouldn’t follow through with what we agreed on last night!”
I let out a big yawn and looked around. I must’ve slept longer than I should have. The sun was already high up, blazing in the sky.
The morning mist had completely vanished. Thankfully, the area I was in was surrounded by trees. Even though I fell asleep out here, I was lucky, I didn’t end up getting baked by the sun.
As I took a moment to scan my surroundings, something caught my eye, and even Dad kept on scolding me.
A fancy-looking car was parked on the side of the road, just a few meters away from where we stood.
“Sweetheart… Boss Valerion is inside that car! Get up, now! We’re going home! You need to change clothes! I need to speak to Boss Valerion first! You can’t be looking like that when you meet Boss Pierre!”
And with that, my father straightened up and briskly walked toward the vehicle.
I watched him approach the backseat window. Then, slowly, the black-tinted glass began to slide down with a hiss.
I saw Boss Valerion.
His face was composed and perfectly still.
And I noticed, he didn’t look at my father.
He glared straight at me.
“Bring your daughter inside the car," he commanded.
My father stiffened instantly.
“Y-Yes, Boss…” he stuttered, nodding with a nervous smile before turning toward me.
CHAPTER 58A shiver crawled up my spine. I never liked it when Pierre used that tone, so deep it felt like it sank straight into my bones.I would have preferred him angry. I would have preferred his voice raised, anything but this unsettling calmness that carried something far more dangerous beneath it.His aura darkened.I swallowed hard. “If I tell you the truth… will you even believe me?”I breathed in, steadying myself before continuing. “Yes, I wanted to be alone, but you’re completely wrong if you think I was hoping to see Diego again—ah! Ouch!”His grip tightened again, sending a quick sharp pain surging from my wrist to my elbow. The sudden pressure made me wince.I bit back the urge to cry out, my teeth pressing hard into my lower lip.Why was he acting like this? Why did my answer matter to him this much? This asshole...A sharp jolt ran through my whole body as I flinched where I stood. His grip dug so deep into my wrist that it felt like he was crushing straight down to
CHAPTER 57KATRINA Queen and Jelly both stared at me, utterly stunned by what I had just said. Only then did it hit me.I blinked twice, trying to reset the moment, then let out a soft, awkward laugh that barely escaped my lips.I had forgotten, of all the foolish things that it wasn’t just the two of us in the room. "Okay, uh… I’ll leave out of here…”I walked away from that table as fast as I could, pretending not to hear anything, yet Jelly’s voice still followed me, calling my name. I didn’t dare look back.I just needed air.I needed the cold outside to wash the heat off my face.I broke into a run toward the main door. The guards stationed inside must have sensed my urgency, because they swung the doors open for me the moment I reached them. I barely managed a nod of thanks before rushing past.My footsteps echoed as I hurried down the stairs. I kept my eyes fixed forward, refusing to glance over my shoulder. By the time I reached the last step, just before my foot could touc
CHAPTER 56KATRINA BARILLASQueen took the time to explain everything to me, insisting she had nothing to do with what happened. According to her, Madame Precilla was the true culprit. She spoke with such earnestness that I couldn’t bring myself to doubt her. I offered her a small smile to ease her worry.“It’s alright,” I told her gently. “Don’t worry about me.”“Really? You’re not mad at me?” she asked. I saw her brows knit together as she turned to face me, searching my expression for even the slightest trace of resentment.I shook my head. “No. I’m actually more comfortable wearing this outfit, so it’s fine. And besides, you already explained everything…” Her face immediately brightened.“Oh… Katrina, you are so kind. I’m really sorry, again. Do you maybe want to… change that dress? Mommy Precilla actually offered me two gowns. I don’t mind if… You know, you borrow one first…”A short, awkward laugh escaped me.“And if Madame sees me wearing one of her gowns, wouldn’t that make m
CHAPTER 55KATRINA BARILLAS Before Pierre could turn and actually see us, I grabbed Jelly’s hand with both haste and desperation. “Come on!” I hissed, tugging her with me.We hurried away from our spot, moving as fast as we could without drawing attention. Instead of returning outside, we slipped deeper into the hall, weaving past the clusters of guests. We ducked behind a small crowd of standing guests.“Let’s find a vacant table,” I whispered, trying to catch my breath while peeking through shoulders and sequins.“Right away, Madame! There... look!” Jelly pointed at an empty table tucked near one of the tall glass windows. We headed straight for it.We settled into the chairs, Jelly on my left, me slightly angled toward the window. From this spot, we weren’t too exposed. A small group of guests stood nearby, chatting animatedly, unintentionally forming a barrier between us and the rest of the hall. Their presence blocked most people’s view of our table.I immediately signaled a n
CHAPTER 54KATRINA BARILLAS The moment Queen stepped out of my room, I took it as my cue to head into my walk-in closet. The soft click of the door behind me echoed faintly against the walls lined with shelves and warm lights.I picked up the hair blower from the vanity and began drying my wet hair. The warm air hummed in my ears, brushing softly against my scalp as I worked through the strands. Once it was no longer damp, I slipped into my dress, smoothing the fabric over my hips while taking a moment to look at myself in the mirror. Just then, Jelly arrived. “I’ll handle your hair, madame,” she murmured, already gathering the long strands.I nodded. “Just put it in a ponytail. I don’t want it getting in the way.”“Yes, madame.”When she finished, my hair was pulled neatly back, exposing the lines of my face. “So… we’re the only ones left here?”"Yes, madame. Your father personally took Boss Valerion to his destination. He’ll be returning to pick us up next.”“That’s better, the
CHAPTER 53“M-Madame… Katrina…”The soft, hesitant voice drifted from behind me, pulling me out of my spiraling mind.“Why can't you... Just love Mr. Pierre?"Good grief, I had completely forgotten there was a maid standing in the garden this whole time.“What’s your name?” I asked, trying to sound composed.“Jelly, Madame…” she replied.“How old are you?” I continued.“Twenty-seven…” she answered.“Why did you say that... why did you think I can’t love Pierre?” I asked."It’s obvious, Madame. He likes you more than he likes Madame Queen…”I laughed out loud.“You actually believe in your master’s moves?” I said, shaking my head with a mix of disbelief and amusement. “He just wants to make me fall for him because he knows I don’t like him. And if he succeeds... of course... he’ll turn unbearably arrogant.” I let out another laugh. With that, I walked back to my seat before my food turned completely cold. I picked up my fork again and resumed eating, determined to finish everything.Be
CHAPTER 35KATRINA “And have you forgotten everything that happened?” he suddenly said, his tone sharp enough to snap me out of my thoughts. “You’re not exactly innocent either, are you?”My eyebrows shot up at his accusation. “If you hadn’t gotten yourself drunk, none of this would’ve happened,”
CHAPTER 33KATRINA “Next time, don’t bother arguing with me again.”Those were the last words I said to him before turning my back and walking out of the balcony. What a pointless argument.Still, even after that heated exchange with Pierre, I managed to keep my promise to my dad that no matter how
CHAPTER 30KATRINA“Ah, damnit it… that freaking hurts.”The moment I regained consciousness, a sharp, throbbing pain exploded inside my head, like someone was repeatedly punching me from the inside. I couldn’t stop myself from swearing, the pain was that intense. My hand instinctively went to my he

When I saw those thick, heart-shaped lips, I couldn't help but kiss her. The heat is slowly consuming my body. This is bad. When she took off her shirt ea
