He was terrifying. She could barely breathe with those eyes on her. Worse, she didn't even get to take anything. She simply came here to die.

"P..please..." Valentine pleaded but the monster didn't look like he was ready to hear anything. All he was concerned about was the fact that she broke into his home to steal. Her eyes watered as he grabbed a handful of hair and pulled her up to get a proper look at her.

Now she felt like she would melt under those eyes. She'd never met one as scary and emotionless as his. The chains rattled again and her eyes fell to his other hand. The chain was wrapped carefully round it.

She trembled at the thought of having it wrapped round her. Why didn't she just listen to Freya?.

"P..please don't kill me...I'll never come back here, I swear...please" She sobbed but he shoved her face away and unwrapped the chains. She thought of running but he was on top of her. There was no way out.

"I'll do anything...don't kill me..please" She tried again, desperately this time.

"Of what use is a thief to me?" He scoffed. She thought of several ways but none seemed appealing enough. It didn't seem appealing to die either.

He wrapped the chains round her neck and she got ready for the worst. A painful death at most but it didn't happen. Instead, he stared though fully at her trembling figure. He locked the chain and got off the bed, pulling her along with him.

She crashed heavily on the floor and winced in pain. Why did he spare her?.

"Rise" He ordered and she stood immediately, not wanting to piss him in anyway. The moonlight lit the room enough for her to see him scrutinising her from head to toe.

"Strip" He ordered.

"But...." The words got stuck in her throat when he yanked the chains forcing her closer. He grabbed her chin and she winced.

"Listen weak human, you don't question me. I don't plan on sparing you so just obey and pray I find you worthy enough" He growled and she nodded rapidly. He let go and she took off her clothes under his watchful eyes.

She stared at his face but it was emotionless. He didn't even seem impressed or anything. His eyes were on her yet it felt like he was looking through her. She felt humiliated. Few men she'd allowed herself to be with had gone crazy over her body.

The eyes of men were lusty each time she appeared but he was different. She wasn't even sure he found her attractive. Was he planning to sleep with her?. Ofcourse, he had to. That was the only reason he'd ask her to strip but now she wasn't so sure what he wanted. Especially from her.

"Not as attractive as the others but will do" He said mostly to himself and her jaws dropped in disbelief. Not attractive as others? There were others?. Now she felt more pathetic than ever. She hoped he would have her body if he wanted and let her go.

"I'll spare you but only cause I need a new pet. Especially since I drowned the last one" He said and her heart nearly jumped out of her chest. Drowned?.

She suddenly realised she was in bigger trouble than she thought.

"Kneel" He ordered and She obeyed quickly. He nodded in approval and ruffled her hair.

"Good girl. You learn faster than the other pets. You'd be good to master, right?" He asked. Pet? That was very downgrading. She was human not some animal. It was bad enough she had chains on her like a dog.

"I'm not a pet. I....." He slapped her so hard that her face slammed to the ground. He pressed his foot against the chains on her neck. She choked and gasped for breath.

"Now listen, pet. I have rules. Riles you must obey strictly if you wanna last longer than others. One, don't talk to me unless you're spoken to and you don't speak until I ask you to. Got it?" He bawled and she gave a muffled reply. He released her and she coughed hard, struggling to breathe.

He might look like a man but he definitely wasn't human.

"Two, don't touch me" He added and she scoffed inwardly. Why would she even wanna touch him?.

"Three, don't look me in the eyes no matter what".

She was sure she would never wanna look in those scary eyes for any reason. She just wanted to get out of there. To get away from him.

She nodded rapidly and he took one last look at her before ordering her to leave. She was relieved. She thought she would have to spend her life with him. His stupid rules didn't matter to her anymore. Once she got out, she would never step foot here again. She would never see him again.

She reached for her clothes but one glare made her hands freeze in mid air.

"Leave" He ordered again.

"But...." He grabbed her hand and pulled her roughly down the stairs. He didn't care if she hit her foot or sprained her ankle. He pushed open the doors and shoved her outside. She landed in the floor and tears poured down her cheeks.

She just wanted the ground to swallow her as several pairs of eyes bored holes through her skin. The soldiers of course. It was almost dawn. She lay there sobbing, unable to move. After several minutes, a warm material came over her. She slowly raised her head. Freya.

"You...."

"I suspected you were too adventurous for your own good so I followed you. I waited all night, praying you would return alive" Freya said. She pulled Valentine into a warm hug.

"It's fine. Everything will be okay" She assured but Valentine was far from believing it. Today was the most humiliating day of her life. Freya took off the chains and led her back to the servants quarters.

She prepared a warm bath for her and made sure Valentine had enough food to eat.

"Thank you, Frey. I'm grateful" Valentine smiled.

"It's fine. Besides, you needed it. Have enough sleep, i'll cover for you" She said and Valentine smiled gratefully. Soon, Freya was gone.

Valentine was happy it was all over now. She vowed never to return to that tower even if angels were selling free tickets to heaven.

She couldn't stand the thought of being anyone's pet with chains round her all the time. She shut her eyes to sleep.

It didn't last long cause her sleep was interrupted by a knock. She groaned and dragged her feet to the door. She opened it and frowned at the soldier.

"The Alpha demands your presence at once" He informed. She sighed and grumpily followed him. He had already given her three years, right? What more could he want from her?.

The soldier stopped and bowed. She bowed too but when She raised her head, she got the shock of her life.

Those amber eyes were staring back at her.

“We need to talk," Eric said the minute she stepped into the room. Valentine tries to read his expression. Could he have known that she went to meet his aunt? Was she not supposed to? Was he angry? Yet his expression rendered no answer to her question. It was blank as usual. “Did I something wrong?" She asked, approaching the bed cautiously. “I don't bite, Valentine. Aside the face that you got out of bed when you were supposed to be resting, there is really no reason to snap your neck," he told her and her body relaxed. At least he wasn't angry. She wasn't sure she was in the right frame of mind to deal with it. “Tell me, where did you go?" He asked the moment she was seated. She shifted uncomfortably. “I went to see your aunt. I had something important to ask her, “ she responded carefully. He nodded. "Alright. I don't know what business you have with her but that's okay. I have bad news.” Her heart skipped a beat. "About?” " Freya. They said she was your frien

“What a pleasant surprise! Who could have thought? You're the last person I expected to see in my chambers this early," Marcie grinned but Valentine was in no mood for pleasantries. She just wanted the woman to tell her where her mother was.“I want to know what you did to my mother," she stated and Marcie's smile dropped slightly. “What I did to your mother? That's strange because, at the last meeting, I remember telling you that the Alpha knows exactly what happened to your mother," Marcie said. “Spare me those lies. Eric doesn't even know my mother is here and I have been with him twenty-four seven, so tell me why you would lie about something like that," Valentine stated. Marcie could see that the conversation was not going the way she planned. She thought Valentine would be carried away by worry and demand to see her mother immediately. “You're already so determined to tag me a liar so why should I bother?" Aunt Marcie tried manipulating her. “That should be the more reason

He blocked her path again and all she wanted to was slap him. “Are you avoiding me, Kim?" Aldric asked and she looked at him with a bored expression.“What does it look like?" She retorted. “I thought we agreed to have a nice dinner. You never showed up for that, why?" He asked and she rolled her eyes. “Don't you get it? I am not interested in talking or eating with you. I don't like you, I've never liked you and nothing is going to change that," she stated.Aldric surprisingly didn't take offense. Instead, he was amused by her words. “I didn't bring up dinner to try to get you to like me. What makes you think I like you too? I just wanted us to have a civil conversation for the first time. Like two mature people," he said. Kimberly crossed her arms. She was no fool. “Is that so? Can you swear this dinner had nothing to do with the marriage that is being imposed on you and me?" Aldric was startled by the words. Sure, rumors did fly around but he didn't expect it to get to her so

“I knew this was going to be a total waste of time. All she did was talk in circles, sobbing about getting killed when she is going to die anyway," Eric huffed as he walked ahead of the Elder. Iyaki hastened up to catch up with him. “Can you slow down?"“We have to force the truth out of her. I need to know who wants my mate dead," Eric continued talking, ignoring what the Elder said. “I understand that but getting unnecessarily angry won't help us now," Iyaki sighed and Eric stopped walking.“Unnecessary angry? You saw her there, she almost died! Do you have any idea how it feels to lose a mate twice? I lost Alana and now that thing almost made me lose Valentine!" Eric bawled.“I'm sorry if my words came out the wrong way. I know you can't afford to lose her and trust me, you won't. I'm just asking you to be patient. Let me deal with this,” Iyaki said calmly. "Fine then. Deal with it.”Eric turned around and left, leaving the Elder behind. Iyaki shook his head and walked in the o

Valentine returned to her bed in a daze. She couldn't believe that the one girl she'd treated with so much love could betray her like this. And for what reason? She shut her eyes to keep the tears from falling out. The signs were there. Right from the time of the red dress to when she found her with Aunt Marcie. “I hope you are not feeling sorry for her or blaming yourself for whatever she did to you," Maya spoke up when she noticed that Valentine had been quiet for too long. “No, I am not," Valentine responded. “I just want to sleep this through."“Polite way of asking us out, huh?" Maya teased and Rhoda nudged her. “She needs to rest, okay? A lot has happened and it might take a toll on her. Enough of the jokes," Rhoda scolded. “Fine," Maya grumbled. “We'll leave now but we'll be back to check on you, okay? Do not let Freya bother you. She is going to get everything she deserves.”Valentine didn't know how to respond to that. She just wanted it to be a bad dream. The Freya she

Iyaki continued stirring his coffee, ignoring the presence of the man. Eric sat stiffly on the seat, practicing all forms of apologies in his head. The Elder moved to the couch opposite him and took a seat, sipping the hot liquid without uttering a word. Eric sucked in a breath, aware that the man would not say a word to him until he was ready to apologize. His amber orbs flickered to the Elder’s cold ones.“Don’t you think you are a little too old to be keeping grudges?” Eric mumbled, looking away. The Elder didn’t react to the remark even though he heard him clearly. “I am sorry for disrespecting you. I was angry and it got the best of me. Forgive me?”“That was the best you could come up with?” Iyaki asked, his face an unreadable mask.“You want me to make promises I can’t keep? You already know how I get when I am angry. You also know that of all the people in my life, I respect you the most, yet here you are, giving me the silent treatment,” Eric grumbled and Iyaki smiled.“I am
