Chapter 2

Amara

My heart was bleeding.

Alpha Magnus came inside, he indeed looked like a strong, proud, handsome alpha male, just like his physique and rank suggested. Blessed with blue eyes.

Chloe hooked her arms in his, and my heart cried from inside more, to see my soulmate with another female.

Zia howled in pain. I never felt this kind of pain in my whole life. My eyes filled with tears, I could not breathe, yet I kept staring at him through my hazy eyes.

As if feeling my scent or my presence, Alpha Magnus's eyes flickered to me, then turned white, like his wolf taking him over but he pushed him back. His fist clenched too. He was having a hard time controlling himself.

"What happened?" Chloe asked him.

He shifted his gaze toward Chloe. He knew I was his mate, but he didn't acknowledge me. Didn't claim me as his mate.

"Mom, Dad, this is Alpha Magnus, my fiancé and soon my mate."

Hearing those words, I turned on my heels and walked out of that place.

I could bear anything, but seeing my fated mate with my stepsister brought me immense pain.

After reaching my room, I locked my door tightly and cried my heart out.

I have no one in my life. I thought maybe my mate would be the only one who was truly mine.

I always held that hope in my heart, but the Moon Goddess snatched that too.

Why, Goddess? Why give me someone who could never be mine?

He is the forbidden Alpha. Already taken by my stepsister, and his ignorance only proved that he didn't want me, didn't care about me.

I rarely cried, but today I couldn't stop myself. What did I ever do wrong? Then why am I getting all this pain? I had no idea how long I kept crying, when I heard a knock at my door. I wiped my tears and opened it.

Julie stood there with an angry face.

"What are you doing here? Don't you know we have a guest and you're hiding here? Who is going to work out there?"

I lowered my eyes to the ground, not wanting her to see my tears, but I guess she saw them anyway.

"Why are you crying?" she asked, more like mocking. "Are you jealous that Chloe got an alpha and you're still mateless?"

After saying that, she laughed.

I didn't say anything. I felt like I had no energy left.

"Come outside and attend to our guest," she said, and walked away.

I still stood there. Again my eyes filled with tears. But I had to hide my tears and my pain, just like I did every single time.

But this time it was the most difficult. I could barely bear the thought of seeing my mate with my sister.

I went to the hall. They were talking. Hearing my footsteps, Chloe's head turned toward me, she had a smug smile plastered across her face.

"Alpha Magnus, meet her. She is our maid, Amara," she said.

I felt extreme shame hearing that.

Magnus's eyes collided with mine cold as ice. He just nodded. Like he didn't know I was his mate. My heart ached inside.

His cold gaze shifted back to Chloe, and immediately turned soft.

Zia cried.

I'm just a maid to them. I guess that is why he didn't claim me as a mate, he thought I wasn't suitable for him.

He is the infamous Alpha, one of the most powerful in the world. For him, Chloe is the better choice. Cunning and smart.

‘We should talk to him’, Zia said hopefully.

It was hard for her too.

‘Do you really think he would want us when he has Chloe? She is a Beta female. We are just omegas, nothing special’.

But I want to ask him why he didn't wait for us and took a chosen mate instead.

Dad was talking to him. Magnus looked bored but was still listening. I stood there too, but after some time I went into the kitchen.

My body shivered, I felt his gaze on me.

Maybe I was thinking too much. He wouldn't care about our mate bond.

I also remembered now, I'd heard that infamous alphas are cruel, ruthless, far more powerful than other alphas. They have special powers.

Chloe came to the kitchen and cleared her throat.

"Listen, today make something special. I don't want Magnus to think our maid is a bad cook and ask us to throw you out.

Well, we wouldn't have a problem with that, but it would be difficult for you. Who knows, outside you might get killed by rogues."

I always hated her, but right now I loathed her. She took the man who belonged to me. He was supposed to be mine, not hers. She is so damn lucky.

I nodded. "You don't need to worry, Chloe. Alpha Magnus will love the food."

She turned to leave but stopped. "Oh yes, make custard too. Magnus loves it." Then she walked out.

Pain ripped through my chest. They must be so close already, that's why she knew what he liked. After all, she spent two months with him. Again it hurt. Maybe they already had sex.., I stopped.

I couldn't even finish that thought. The mere idea killed me.

I always waited for my mate. Never even thought about another male, never gave anyone else a single glance. But what did I get in return? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

What will happen in the future? I always imagined that when I met my fated mate, we would accept each other, he would take me with him. But what now? I couldn't stay here forever, they would throw me out one day. Where would I even go? Again my eyes filled with tears.

I have to ask Magnus why he didn't accept me. Am I really that bad?

I arranged dinner on the dining table. They had skipped lunch since they were having it with Alpha Xavier, who had been eager to meet Magnus.

He felt blessed that the infamous Alpha was a guest in their pack. My father and Julie were feeling proud, thinking it would bring favour for them and respect for the pack.

After arranging everything, I stood beside the table. Dad and Julia came together, then Chloe and Magnus came hand in hand, like a happy couple, stealing glances at each other with soft eyes.

My jaw clenched in anger. Jealousy shot through my veins. But I couldn't do anything. Just stare at them and mourn my fate.

They happily ate dinner. Then Chloe said, "Magnus baby, this custard is specially for you, I made it myself. Have a taste."

Bloody liar.

Magnus's eyes softened at her. He took a bite, then softly said. "Thank you, Chloe. This is amazing. I've never eaten custard this delicious."

I wanted to shout at him. Tell him it was made by me, not Chloe. She doesn't know how to make anything. But I couldn't say a word. I just stood there watching their little lovey-dovey show.

Everyone was enjoying themselves, and here I was, standing like a fool.

After they finished eating, everyone walked out.

Chloe's arms were tightly wrapped around Magnus's as she led him toward his room, just like she owned him.

As always, I ate alone. Still watery-eyed.

After finishing the work, I was about to go to my room, but suddenly someone grabbed my wrist, and the next moment I found myself pinned against the wall.
