OLIVE BECKETT

"It's what this is, isn't it? You want Summer for yourself and you've come to destroy my engagement, haven't you? Are you still going to live that pathetic life ? Face it, Easton, not everything bends to your rules!"

"She doesn't want you!"

"And she wants you? Focus on your love live, it is clear you need some help in that department!"

"Fuck you. I have a girlfriend."

"Her?" He pointed at me. "Everyone here knows this is a facade. A big lie, I can tell. You guys are not dating."

Easton held his face like as he watched his brother, Ethan. It was like a show-off and a stupid one, if you would ask me. What I didn't expect was the next thing he uttered.

"You're right," he scoffed. "We aren't dating. That's because she is not my girlfriend. Olive is my fiance, and we are getting married."

The room froze as I watched him lie. I sat there, speechless as our fake relationship turned to a fake marriage in a blink of an eye.

~~~~~~
6 hours earlier
He picked me up at seven on the dot. Where and why we were going was still a mystery to me. But I badly needed this fake relationship to work.
“So, whose engagement ceremony are we going to stop?” I asked the moment I got in the car.
“My brother’s,” he said, his eyes focused on the road.
“Excuse me, what? Why are you stopping your brother's engagement ceremony?”
“It's a long story.”
“Yeah… one that you need to tell me about because I need to prepare for it.”He looked focused, like a different man from last night.
“Okay… since you want an explanation. He is getting married to my best friend, and I can't let him.”
“If she loves him—”
“She doesn't love him,” he finished. “She doesn't love him. She's just making a stupid decision, like the other stupid decisions she has made.”
The way his jaw flexed when he talked about the engagement showed the extent he was willing to go to stop it. It almost felt as if he hated the idea of giving away the woman he loved. Oh my gosh, that's it!
“You love her,” I said.
He blinked, and for a minute, I could tell he hadn't expected me to figure it out.
“You love her, don't you? That's why you want to stop the engagement. But if she chose your brother, I think you should respect her decision.”
“You don't know her like I do. She definitely does not want my brother. She made this decision because of something else, and I have to find out why.”
“I didn't sign up for this, you know? The deal was a fake relationship, not an addition to family drama. Excuse me, but I don't want the additional perks.”
He snorted, and I could see a little smile form on the side of his lips.
“Don’t worry, I won't get you into any mess.”
As if. You can never trust these hockey men, especially the rich and popular ones.
Soon enough, we got to his family house, more like a mansion. The type you would see in an Indian series, where the extended family was part of the show as well. The gate automatically opened as he drove in.
Grand facades featured towering gateways and ornate jharokhas, overhanging balconies with carved stone screens that allowed ventilation while maintaining privacy. Sloping roofs with terracotta tiles.
It looked magical and homely.
“Are you sure about this?” I asked him at the doorstep, our hands intertwined.
“Yes, I am.”
He rang the doorbell, and in a flash, the door opened. A woman, presumably in her late 60s, beamed at us.
“Mom.” He rushed into her arms, and she squealed.
“I'm soooo happy you could make it, Buttercup!”
Buttercup? Interesting.
“And who is she?”
“This is my girlfriend, Olive.”
I went in to hug her, and she placed a kiss on my forehead.
“Now I know the lucky girl who captured my Buttercup's heart.”
I faked a smile and she walked us inside. The living area was grand, decorated amazingly with gold and bronze.
Top-to-bottom windows shone sunlight through the house. In the middle stood a man with a striking resemblance to Easton and another who had the same face, holding a beautiful blonde’s hand.
“Guess who came?!”
Easton rushed to the older man and hugged him. “Dad!”
“Hey, slugger. I didn't think you would come.”
“No way, there's no way I'll miss this.”
“This is Olive, my girlfriend.” He introduced me to his father, and I didn't expect him to like me as well.
“It was about time you brought a girl home,” the other guy said.
“Olive, this is my brother, Ethan.” I could hear the difference in his voice.
“Nice to meet you,” Ethan said. I took a good look at him. Sharp jawline, black suit, and an arrogant attitude underneath it all. Compared to Easton, he was the worst version—the overbearing kind.
“Hi, I'm Summer.” A slim hand stretched out to touch mine.
Oh-
I'm guessing this is the girl. Thick blonde curls cascaded down her back, blue eyes that looked exactly like the sky. Soft porcelain skin with little dots of freckles underneath her eyes like beauty marks. Her voice sounded like she was singing a lullaby.
She wasn't just pretty—she was beautiful, like she had just come out of a Barbie cartoon.
“Summer.”
I could tell by how he looked at her… focused on the way his brother held her hand and the way his jaw flexed. There was tension between the three of them, and anyone could tell.
“Okay…why don't you go to your room and settle down with Olive, buttercup?”
He nodded, held my hand, and walked us upstairs.
—-----------------------------------------------------
“So, what's the plan?”
“I don't know. I'll try to convince Summer as much as I can,” he groaned, pushing his bangs all the way back.
“Are you sure you're not making the wrong decision? I saw her, and she didn't seem like she was forced to get married to him.”
“She doesn't love him. I know that.”
“And you think she loves you?” He paused, then turned to me.
“I know this is none of my business, and I know nothing about you and Summer, but don't you think you're living a delusion? Also, if you want to stop this engagement ceremony so bad, why did you agree to this fake relationship with me?”
It made no sense to me. Why waste my time? What was my reason for being here? It was clear the girl wasn't into him like that, yet somehow, he believed otherwise.
“If she sees me with someone else, it would make her jealous. Look, this is none of your business. No invading personal space, remember?”
“But this became my business when you brought me here. If you really want my help to stop this engagement and eventually wedding, you need to tell me every thing else."
He didn't respond and I nodded, going along with his attitude.
He walked into the bathroom and, after a few minutes, walked out with nothing but a towel hanging low on his waist.
Instinctively, I covered my eyes with my hands.
“No worries, you can look. I enjoy the attention.”
Prick.
Three hours later, I walked down to the dining room for lunch. I had no idea where Easton had escaped to, but the show must go on. I didn't even have enough time to settle in when Easton walked into the dining room with Ethan following behind him. Ethan caught up with him quickly and pushed him aside.
“What the fuck is wrong with you?!” Ethan shouted.
“Is this it? This is why you're here, right?!”
Summer walked out to where they stood. Everyone's eyes turned to them.
“Stop it, Ethan. It's not his fault," She said.
“Not his fault? Sure, you'll always take his side. You think Summer can save you this time?"
“I'm not,” she said. “But you can't hit him because of me.”
“Why are you with him?!” Easton shouted. “I know you, Summy. You don't love him. You told me yourself.” He looked straight at Ethan. “My brother is a narcissistic, arrogant airhead. Those were your words.”
I got up, in an attempt to stop whatever was happening. It already looked embarrassing coming here, claiming to be his girlfriend while he pinned over his brother's fiancee.
Ethan threw a blow and their parents got up quickly. They tried to stop it, but Easton didn't even try to fight back. He just let his brother hit him and then shove him.
“I'm done with this shit! I'm done with always letting you get away with whatever you do! You're the golden child. The one that everyone forgives so easily.” He breathed heavily.
“It's what this is, isn't it? You want Summer for yourself, and you've come to destroy my engagement, haven't you? Are you still going to live that pathetic life? Face it, Easton, not everything bends to your rules!”
"Easton, leave him alone," I said.
"No, I won't!"
Everyone clawed at the both of them but it seemed impossible to stop them. Panic filled the room, faces filled with worry.
“She doesn't want you! She doesn't love you!”
“And she loves you? Focus on your love life; it's clear you need some help in that department!”
“Fuck you. I have a girlfriend.”
“Her?” He pointed at me. “Everyone here knows this is a facade. A big lie, I can tell. You guys aren't dating. You think I wouldn't know?”
Shit! I was about to blurt out the truth when Easton caught me off.
He held his face high as he watched his brother, Ethan. It was like a show-off, and a stupid one if you asked me. What I didn't expect was the next thing he uttered.
“You're right,” he scoffed. “We aren't dating. That's because she isn't my girlfriend. Olive is my fiancée, and we are getting married.”
    OLIVE BECKETT “Hello?” There was no reply from the phone, just a deep exhale and the call ended.What the fuck?I tried to call the number back because even though I didn't want to, years of training made it impossible to ignore a phone call. You can never know if someone is in need of help.“The number you're trying to reach doesn't exist,” the automatic voice on the other end announced.I dropped my phone with a frown. That's new. Making a mental note to tell Easton about it later, I picked up my gardening gloves and stepped out of the house.My current break from work gave me a lot of free time, so I had picked up watering the flowers in and around the house as a hobby. I had also gotten some of the security to join me because the flowers were a lot. It also gave me an opportunity to know them better.Bron was the team leader but he also had adorable twin daughters at home and his wife was late. His family all pitched in to take care of the children.I didn't know if it was poss
    EASTON CARTER I stroked Olive’s hair, watching her chest rise and fall with every breath. The baby was calm, they hadn't kicked throughout the evening.This was going to become an addiction, watching her sleep and feeling the baby move under my fingers.My phone vibrated, disturbing the tranquility I felt.“What is it?” I asked, moving away from her.Today was too eventful for both of us, I didn't want to disturb her sleep.“We found something strange in the surveillance Sir,” Bron replied. “There's…”“I'm on my way.”He paused. “Alright Sir.”In times like this, I really wished my intuition was wrong but it didn't matter, whatever it was, I will take care of it.I pressed a kiss on her forehead and left the room, ensuring the door was closed properly behind me.Bron was waiting for me by the front door. “What's the problem?” I asked as we walked to the security building.“The license number on the delivery van isn't registered anywhere Sir. It's a fake.”I frowned. “Have you called
    EASTON CARTER “I have a confession to make,” I announced as we were strolling into the house.Olive glanced at me, her brow raised. “Okay?”Her lips were still curved up in a smile since the hospital.“I can't wait for your belly to grow big and round with our child.” I grinned. “I imagine you waddling around in one of my shirts and I get hot and bothered.”She giggled. “Did you just use the phrase hot and bothered?”“That's how I feel,” I shrugged, grinning at her.“I refuse to believe that imagining the love of your life swollen, unable to see her toes when standing and with a sore back turns you on.”“Well, you would be full with the life we created and I will worship your toes for you. Warm baths and massages will definitely help you back but I don't think they will be better than you resting over a surface while I fuck into you gently.”She gasped, her cheek coloring in the most beautiful way. “You pervert!”I laughed and reached for her but she danced away from my touch with a
    OLIVE BECKETT “How early did you wake up?” I smiled, watching Easton.He unfolded the bed tray over my legs and sat back with a grin.“I was too excited to sleep,” he confessed.“So you spent the whole night awake? Easton, that's not good for you,” I worried, staring more intensely at his face for signs of fatigue. “I dozed off a bit.”I narrowed my eyes on him. “And the rest of the time?”“When you turn to your sides in your sleep, you furrow your brows for a bit in the cutest way possible.”A surprised laugh left my lips. “You stalker!”“You can't blame me,” he grinned unapologetically. “There's a whole new life growing in you and it blows my mind every time I think about it.”I shook my head and helped myself to the toasts. “That doesn't mean you have to lose sleep over me.”“I did gain new memories in the process.”I sighed, a fond smile on my lips. “I hope you're eating something though and I don't want to hear anything like seeing me eat is more satisfying than eating.”“Well
    OLIVE BECKETT I jolted awake, my heart racing like I had barely escaped something horrifying. I blinked, trying to remember the details of the dream.Nothing.The quietness of the room made me realize that I was alone.I rubbed my belly soothingly. I wasn't sure if I was trying to console the baby or myself. “Don't worry. Nothing is going to happen to you my sweet pea. Mummy and daddy are here to protect you, we won't let anything happen to you.”“Easton?” I called, leaving the bed.There was no reply. He wasn't in the restroom. That's odd. Waking up alone in the middle of the night was something that rarely happens, especially after I got pregnant.I walked downstairs, stopping in the kitchen for a quick cup of water.We had to start leaving water in the room overnight. Maybe, we get a mini fridge?I could stock it with a lot of sweets, fruits, and pastries too.“You would like that wouldn't you sweet pea?” I asked my flat abdomen. Easton wasn't downstairs. I wanted to call out
    OLIVE BECKETT Easton blinked at me, his face carefully void of any expression.“What?”“I was coming out to watch him leave and heard him talking about something, I couldn't hear him properly but whatever he said definitely got you riled up.”He sighed and waved a dismissive hand over his shoulder. “Marcus has this weird ability of getting under my skin. Ignore his annoying me rambling.”“Are you sure?”His brows were still furrowed. Whatever Marcus said to him, left him worried.“Yes my love,” he replied with a smile, covering the distance between us in swift strides. “Let's go in. It's been a long day and I know your feet must be hurting.”Easton stared at my legs for a minute, pondering over something. “I'll just carry you inside and give you a massage.”I laughed, stepping away from his reach. “I can walk inside myself, thank you very much. But, I'll take that massage.”“I was right,” he frowned. “Your legs hurt. If I had my way, your feet won't touch the ground till you've recov
