LOGINMISTAKING YOU FOR DESTINY
Chapter 5 Ethan walked out of company and released a breath he didn’t realize he has been holding. He looked around, having accomplished his goal he can now look around and admire the environment. He stared for some minutes before heading to the roadside to board a cab. As the cab rode, he sighted an ice cream spot by roadside, he stopped the cab man, paid him and alighted. He crossed to the other side of the road where the ice cream spot was. He paid for a chocolate cone as his face brightened, in his past life he had stopped taking chocolate ice cream because Lucien didn’t like it, he had called it childish. After finishing the ice cream, he stayed for a while to enjoy the soft breeze, how much he had missed this. The cab pulled up in front of Lucien’s apartment, Ethan got down, paid the driver and walked in, he checked his time, it was already 7:00pm. He sighed, he didn’t even realize he took that long at Carlos office. He walked into his room and took off his clothes then scoffed, “So after helping him instead of a thank you, the first thing he could think of was me calling him an idiot?” “I didn’t even realize when that left my mouth.” He laughed at himself before heading into the bathroom. After a few minutes he walked out, towel wrapped around his waist and one in his hand which he was using to dry his hair. He got into his pajamas then headed to the kitchen to make something for himself. After eating, he went back into his room, he grabbed his phone to watch N*****x, he clicked on a random movie and started watching. After an hour he paused it to get popcorn. He littered the room and eventually fell asleep by 11:00pm. Tires screeched at the driveway, not up to minute after, the door flung open, Lucien walked in, his suit in hand, shirt and hair messy like he just ran a marathon. He stepped into the sitting room expecting to see Ethan, but the sitting room was empty. He walked further into the house and headed upstairs to Ethan’s room to find him peaceful curl on the bed, popcorn littered everywhere and movie still playing on his phone. “Is he pretending to be asleep or something?” Lucien hissed and slammed the door, and walked to his own room. —CK EMPIRE, JEWELRY COMPANY— Carlos was still at the office and this wasn’t his first time, he’s never in a hurry to get home, not like he had someone or something waiting for him at home. He wasn’t working, just sitting on his seat, tapping his fingers on the desk, his brows furrowed, only one thought on his mind, someone called him an idiot, not just anyone but a fragile looking guy, in front of his staffs, in his office. What an audacity. He let out a dark laugh, he picked up his phone and called his PA, “Be at my office in a minute,” he ordered and without waiting for the response from the other side, he hung up. It wasn’t up to a minute when the door pushed open, his PA walked in and bowed. “You called for me boss.” “That crazy guy that was here earlier, look into him for me.” Carlos said without sparing his PA a glance. “Huh?” His eyes widened. “Do you need hearing aid?” Carlos voice came out cold. “No..no sir, I’ll look into him.” His PA said, he waited for a while waiting for Carlos to say something. “That will be that for now.” Carlos finally said. His PA bowed and walked out, closing the door gently. Carlos stayed in that position for another thirty minutes, before finally standing up, he picked up his suit from the stand beside him and grabbed his keys to go home, but at the last minute, he changed his mind, he’d just sleep in the office. He walked to the door and placed his palm on the wall, a palm biometric appeared and the wall slid open, revealing a well furnished apartment, a cozy sitting room, Tv, couch and others. He stepped in and the wall closed up, covering every trace of an entrance. Carlos headed up the stairs and pushed open the door to one of the two room, he threw his suit on the couch in the room, undressed and headed into the bathroom. Inside the bathroom, his thoughts went back to Ethan but not him calling him an idiot but how he had actually saved him, tho the fake jewelry would affect him that much but he would be from one conference to another to clear up everything and Ethan actually saved him of that without asking anything in return. And in that moment, he realized he didn’t even tell Ethan a proper thank you. —THE NEXT DAY, LUCIEN’s APARTMENT— The sun ray entered the room through the slightly opened curtains and was on Ethan’s face on the bed. He opened his eyes, inhaled and smiled, stretching himself. He got up to the mess he made. He walked into the bathroom to the to do his morning business. In a few minutes he was out, fresh scent on. He threw on a casual top and short, and headed out, straight to the kitchen, he was so hungry. He got into the kitchen, threw on an apron and whistled happily through out his cooking session, he made bread and eggs with tea. His smile was still on as he rounded up, having a second chance relive his life and now doing what he liked and wanted was a valid reason to be all smiles. As he finished, he left the food in the kitchen and headed to the room to clean up the popcorn mess he made. After five minutes he was done, he skipped his way down the stairs and headed back to the kitchen. He carried his meal to the dinning area and settled down and started eating. Lucien walked down the stairs, already dressed for work, he paused when he saw the dining table had no extra food on it. “Where’s my food?” He asked. “The kitchen is for making food and its that way.” Ethan pointed towards the kitchen without looking up from his food.Ethan got out of the cab; he paid the driver and walked into the building. He was still fidgeting. As he walked in, staff turned, pausing mid-conversation. They all looked shocked, not because he had come to the company that early, but because his eyes were red and he had dried tear stains on his cheeks.Ethan's smile faltered. Why were they staring that much? His usual greetings were all gone, replaced with shocked expressions on their faces."Did Dad already tell them I was going to be a staff member from the start here?" he wondered. His phone dinged, interrupting his thoughts. His eyes popped wide when he saw his own reflection on his phone screen. He looked back up at the staff who now took their eyes away.So that was why they had been staring that much?He took out his handkerchief and wiped his face, cleaning off his dried tears. That gone, there was nothing he could do about his red, puffy eyes.He pocketed his phone back before walking further to his dad's office. It was al
—THE NEXT DAY, LUCIEN’S APARTMENT—It was just 6 a.m., but Ethan was already up. He yawned and stretched before getting out of bed."First impression matters," he mumbled to himself before walking into the bathroom to do his morning business. He stood in front of the mirror while brushing his teeth."This is Ethan Vale. This is who you are. This is who you were, so don't be nervous. You got this," he said to himself. It might be his dad's company, but since his dad had made that statement earlier, one thing was for sure—it wouldn't be easy. He might even get harder interview questions because of that.He finished taking his bath and walked out with a towel wrapped around his waist and another in his hand, which he was using to dry his hair. His eyes caught his credentials on the dressing table. He had laid them out yesterday before going to bed.He walked up to it and sat down. He still had to revise some things. He grabbed his phone and started making research on possible questio
—MONDAY, LUCIEN’s APARTMENT — Ethan got down from his bed and headed into his bathroom, he picked up his toothbrush and started brushing his teeth, his eyes caught his reflection in the mirror and he paused as a random realization hit him, he’s spending from a credit card from his family, his car is from his mum, literally everything he could call his own was somehow purchased by his parents m, he can’t point a finger to something Lucien got for him and they have been in a relationship for over three years, and what hit most was that he was fucking twenty five!!His hand shot slightly on the toothbrush; he had always wanted to be independent, and he thought he was until today. There and then, he decided he needed to get a job. After finishing his business in the bathroom, he picked out a complete set of office wear; he only had them in his closet, and he had never actually worn them. He quickly put them on; he brushed his hair and sprayed himself. He looked at his reflection a
—SATURDAY, CARLOS MANSION— Carlos took his last step down the stairs, phone in his right hand, clad in a black casual top and grey sweatpants; his hair was messy and stuck to his face, indicating he had just had his bath. He looked around the house; it was neat. He nodded to himself when he touched some spots in the house, and they were clean. He hated dirt.He walked into the kitchen to the maids; he never let them stay. Immediately, they were done for the day. He always made sure they left; he hates too many people in his private space.“G..Good morning, sir.” The maid by the door, who noticed his presence, greeted him. The second looked up, “Good morning, Mr Carlos.”“Hmm.” Carlos hummed as he got a cup and headed to the coffee brewer to make coffee for himself. The maid's eyes widened as one of them quickly rushed over to him,“I…I’ll help you with this air.” She gave a tight smile, trying to collect the cup from him.“No, never mind, it’s just coffee, I can handle it mys
—SATURDAY—It was evening, and Ethan was at home. He was bored, tired of watching movies; his stomach ached from too much ice cream and junks, and he didn’t even feel like going out, so he lay on his bed scrolling through the internet on his phone. Then he saw a post Lucien made two minutes ago, a picture of him holding someone’s hand, captioned “Beautiful evening with someone special.”Ethan scrolled like he did every other post; he didn’t even feel a thing or dwell on it. Then he remembered something: he paints. He quickly got up from bed; that’s a perfect way to kill boredom. He started searching for his paints, brushes and other things he needed to paint, but couldn’t find any. He turned his room upside down but found nothing; he even went as far as checking the closet. Then it clicked: Lucien had once told him it was a waste of time that no one looks at paintings anymore and that he hated the smell of paint, and like a lapdog, he had thrown everything in the basement
Ethan decided to shop again. He parked his car at the front of a mall, got out and walked into the mall. He was swinging the keys in his index finger happily. He started shopping, smiling ear to ear. He made sure to get a lot of chocolates and ice creams. He barely got clothes; his cart was filled with junk, snacks and fragrances. After about an hour of shopping, he paid, got the bags and walked out. He packed everything into the passenger’s seat, got in and drove off.Instead of going home straight, he decided to stop at the beach; it was 7pm already. He parked his car, took off his shoes and walked on the smooth sand, letting the breeze into his gut. He walked into the water, the waves washing past his feet; everything screamed peace. He could stay here forever. He closed his eyes, inhaling the cool breeze like his life depended on it. After about thirty minutes, he decided to go home. He put his shoes back on, hopped into his car and drove off. Getting home, he found Lucien’s
