Kael broke the seal.

No one spoke as he unfolded the report. I watched his eyes move across the page, then stop. His face changed so slightly that another person might have missed it.

I did not.

“What does it say?” Selene asked.

Kael remained silent.

I stepped closer and read the line beneath his hand.

Probability of biological paternity: 99.8 percent.

The words blurred.

That morning, I had sat in Maeve’s clinic with my hand over my stomach, afraid to breathe too loudly because I was finally carrying Kael’s child. Now I stood beside another woman while a medical report declared that my mate already had a son.

Kael lowered the paper. “Why did you wait?”

Selene’s face tightened. “I told you. I was afraid.”

“For six years?”

“My parents controlled everything after we left. By the time I could make my own choices, too much time had passed.” Her voice weakened. “Then Noah began asking questions. I couldn’t keep lying to him.”

Kael looked away, but not before I saw the anger in his eyes.

“You should have told me.”

“I know.”

“No, Selene. You don’t.” His grip tightened around the report. “If this is true, you kept my son from me for five years.”

Noah flinched.

The small movement pulled my attention toward him. He sat with the wooden wolf pressed against his chest, watching the adults argue over his life. Whatever I felt toward his mother, the child had done nothing wrong.

Kael noticed too.

His anger disappeared beneath something more controlled. He crossed the room and crouched before the boy.

“Noah.”

The child looked at him cautiously.

“None of this is your fault.”

“Are you angry with me?”

The question was so quiet that something inside me softened despite the pain in my chest.

“No.” Kael rested his hands on his knees. “I’m not angry with you.”

Noah glanced at the report. “So you are my father?”

Kael hesitated. “The paper says I am.”

A small smile appeared on the boy’s face.

Kael did not return it immediately, but his expression changed. I knew that look. Responsibility had already taken hold of him.

“We’ll figure everything out,” he promised.

A strange fear moved through me. Kael never gave his word lightly.

“Then this matter requires discretion,” Cassian said.

I had almost forgotten he was there.

The elder stood near the doorway, calm as ever. His gaze settled briefly on Noah before returning to Kael.

“If the report is accurate, the boy may be the Alpha’s firstborn son. Rumors about succession could spread quickly.”

My stomach tightened.

Firstborn.

Not child. Not son.

Firstborn.

Kael rose at once. “This is not a council matter tonight.”

Cassian inclined his head. “Of course.”

“Then leave succession out of it.”

“I only meant to protect the boy from rumors.” His tone remained respectful. “Blackridge watches everything its Alpha does. We should be prepared.”

There was nothing openly threatening in his words. That made my unease harder to explain.

Kael folded the report. “Tomorrow. Not tonight.”

Cassian bowed slightly. “As you wish, Alpha.”

His eyes passed over me before he left.

I wondered why a senior elder had arrived at the exact moment Selene produced the report. Perhaps she had contacted him before coming. Perhaps the clinic had. There were reasonable explanations.

Still, the question stayed with me.

Later, I found Kael alone in his office.

He stood beside the window with both hands resting on the desk. The report lay open before him.

I closed the door.

“Did you know?”

He turned immediately. “No.”

I searched his face.

“Not even a suspicion?”

“None.”

I believed him. Kael could hide fear from an entire council, but he had never been good at lying to me.

He came closer. “Selene disappeared before I met you. I tried to find out where she went, but her family had already left the region.”

“You never told me that part.”

“I told you we were together.”

“You told me she left.”

His jaw tightened. “I didn’t know she was pregnant.”

I looked toward the report. “Do you still love her?”

“No.”

The answer came without hesitation.

Some of the pressure in my chest eased.

Then Kael continued.

“But if Noah is mine, I won’t abandon him.”

I closed my eyes briefly.

Of course he wouldn’t. It was one of the reasons I loved him. Kael protected people who depended on him, sometimes long after it became painful.

“I wouldn’t ask you to abandon a child.”

“I know.”

He reached for my hand. “Elara—”

A knock interrupted us.

I pulled away as the door opened. One of the senior servants stood outside.

“Forgive me, Alpha. We need to prepare rooms for Lady Selene and the boy.”

I frowned. “The eastern guest house is ready.”

The servant looked at Kael.

“They’ll stay here,” he said.

I turned to him. “Here?”

“Temporarily. Until I confirm everything and understand why they returned now.”

“Cassian suggested it would be safer,” the servant added.

Again.

Cassian.

Kael seemed not to notice my reaction. “Give Noah the blue room. Selene can take the room beside it.”

My chest tightened.

Those rooms were near the private Alpha wing.

Near us.

The servant bowed and left.

My hand brushed against my bag. The pregnancy report was still inside, beside the tiny silver bracelet I had bought that morning.

I had wanted to tell Kael tonight.

Instead, another woman and her child were moving into our home.

That morning, I had walked into the clinic believing I was finally giving Kael the family we had prayed for. By nightfall, another woman’s son had been named his firstborn heir.

  • My Alpha Buried the Wrong Luna   Chapter 57: THE NAME THEY REMOVED

KAELThe missing name stayed in my mind long after I left the healer's office. The second blood test had answered one question but opened another. Noah was connected to my bloodline, yet the relationship did not fit a father and son. Somewhere in my family's history was a missing piece, and I had reached the point where I no longer believed missing records were accidents.Early the next morning, I returned to the Blackridge archive with Darius. I chose not to inform the council of my visit. Every time I shared information too soon, someone seemed to know exactly where to interfere. The old archive keeper unlocked the family records room and welcomed us inside. Tall shelves lined the walls, filled with books that recorded generations of births, marriages, deaths, and bloodline histories. Dust covered the highest shelves, and the smell of old paper filled the quiet room."I need every revision made to my family's blood registry," I said. "Especially anything repaired, corrected, or seal

  • My Alpha Buried the Wrong Luna   Chapter 56: THE SAFE HOUSE THAT WASN'T SAFE

ELARAThe warning reached Greyhaven before we did.Ronan was reading the message when I entered the archive. His expression told me enough before he spoke. He folded the paper once, placed it on the table, and rested one hand against it as though he wished the words inside were different."The safe house has been compromised."I stopped beside him."Which one?""The western shelter."My heart sank immediately. It was the place we planned to use after leaving the settlement where the council-linked man recognized me. Only Ronan, two trusted scouts, and I knew about the change in route. We had chosen it because almost no one remembered it existed."When did this happen?""Yesterday."I reached for the report and read every line carefully. The building had not been burned or broken apart. No one had been killed. Whoever entered the house had worked with patience instead of violence. The locks were opened rather than forced, cupboards had been searched before being closed again, and furni

  • My Alpha Buried the Wrong Luna   Chapter 55: THE HANDWRITING I COULD NEVER FORGET

KAELThe name meant nothing. The handwriting meant everything.I remained beside the inn register long after Darius finished speaking. The woman behind the counter had returned to her work, but I could not take my eyes off the correction written above the room number.Eira Vale.A false name.Yet the small change to the register carried habits I knew too well. Elara always wrote quickly, but she never left a mistake uncorrected. When she crossed out a word or number, she used one clean line instead of scratching over it. Even the way she wrote the number seven—with a short line across the middle—had become familiar after years of reading reports she prepared for council meetings.I had noticed those details without ever thinking they would matter. Now they were all I had."Darius," I said quietly, "we're taking this page."He looked toward the innkeeper. "She may object.""We'll copy the entire register and leave it with her. I only need this page examined."The innkeeper agreed after

  • My Alpha Buried the Wrong Luna   Chapter 54: ONE DAY BEHIND HER

KAELBy midday, four separate clues pointed toward the same northern settlement. The tunnel beneath the estate had given me the direction. The roadside healer confirmed that armed men searched for an injured pregnant woman after the fire. A Vale identity had recently moved through northern routes, and now Darius had found a report about a Blackridge-linked travel token seen near a market town close to Greyhaven territory.Any one of those clues could have meant nothing.Together, they were enough.I entered the settlement with Darius and Bren, dressed as ordinary travellers. No Alpha guards followed us. No Blackridge banner announced my arrival. If Elara’s enemies were still watching these roads, I wanted them to remain unaware of my search. We began at the stable. The owner remembered several strangers, but his answers were vague until Bren mentioned a woman travelling under protection. The man scratched his beard. “There was someone.”My body went still.“What did she look like?”“D

  • My Alpha Buried the Wrong Luna   Chapter 53: THE MAN WHO SAW ME ALIVE

ELARAThe description of the man who had followed my mother’s trail bothered me before I understood why.Nessa remembered little about him. He was tall, perhaps in his early forties, with short brown hair and a thin scar near his left ear. He wore an ordinary travelling coat and gave no name. What stayed with her was the way he asked questions.“He already knew which records he wanted,” she had said. “He was not searching. He was checking.”That difference followed me back to Greyhaven.I sat across from Ronan in the archive, trying to place the face in my memory. A scar near the ear. Quiet voice. Council manners. Then it came to me.“I have seen him.”Ronan looked up. “Where?”“Blackridge.”The word felt strange now.I closed my eyes briefly, searching through old council meetings and administrative visits. I remembered the man standing outside a closed session months before Selene returned. He had carried sealed files between offices while I waited to review a dispute involving two

  • My Alpha Buried the Wrong Luna   `Chapter 52: SOMEONE KNEW SHE ESCAPED

KAELI followed the old passage north with only Darius and one tracker.Taking more warriors would have been faster, but speed was not worth exposure. If Elara was alive, I had no idea who inside Blackridge already knew. The council had touched too many parts of the case, and I refused to announce where my search was leading. The tunnel beneath the northern estate had partly collapsed after the fire. We entered through the damaged storage room and moved carefully through smoke-stained stone. In several places, I had to bend beneath broken beams.Darius walked behind me.“If the official map had been correct,” he said, “the first search team would have found this.”“But the map was changed.”Neither of us needed to say what that meant. After nearly an hour, daylight appeared ahead. The passage ended beyond the old northern patrol line, hidden beneath thick bushes and loose stone. I stepped outside and looked back toward the estate. From here, the burning house would have been far enoug
