Scott takes the ring from Alpha Kelvin, which symbolizes the power and title of Alpha, indicating that today, he will officially become the Alpha of our Blue Amber Pack, before he swears in his young but powerful voice.
“I solemnly swear that I will protect and lead this pack with all my might and do everything in my power to assure the members of this pack a safe and comfortable life.”
If he has shifted and is about to take his position as the new Alpha, it means that he would have been able to find his mate.
Finishing his long speech about his duties, the elder turns towards the crowd with spread arms, “Members of the Blue Amber Pack, please bow down to your new Alpha.”
The crowd gasps in unison as the bond snaps into place, Scott clenching his jaw before he flashes the crowd another one of his gorgeous smiles. We all bow deeply, baring our necks in respect.
“Are you ready to tell us who your Luna is?” the elder asks, turning towards Scott and making my heart still in my chest.
Scott nods, his gaze meeting mine. I feel everyone's gaze on me, my heart racing in my chest as my nervousness expands in my chest.
A special connection seems to link Scott and me, which leaves me a little confused, because it is not my birthday today, and there are still months left until I will shift, so I shouldn't be able to feel the mate bond.
An invisible force like a wave brings me closer to Scott's spirit, and I feel happy about the connection, as it can only mean one thing: I am Scott's mate.
He holds our eye contact for a long moment before he lifts it, holding out his hand to someone in the back of the crowd. And not me.
My blood turns cold. Why does he ignore the connection between us?
Am I hallucinating?
“Hailey,” his deep baritone voice rumbles through the air, shattering my heart in a million pieces as I turn around to look at Hailey smiling back happily at him.
I can't believe how everything I just felt crumbles into nothingness.
My thoughts spiral as the crowd cheers in joy, and she lifts her long skirt to join her mate on the stage while my eyes well up with tears.
Hailey is a new member of our pack. She is popular among our male members because of her beauty, and it is not something that should be blamed or discussed.
But I have seen her other female followers treat girls who can't match with their group in a awful way. Hailey never does this with her own hands, but she watches the bullying with a playful expression.
And my disruption of their activities just made them hate me more.
I force down the urge to let emotions overwhelm me in front of everyone, breathing slowly to calm my racing heart.
I act as if nothing happened, forcing up a smile and clapping my hands as Hailey bumps into me.
“Oh, April. Sorry, I’m being so nervous that I get clumsy,” Hailey giggles in her high-pitched voice.
“Don’t worry,” I smile sadly, taking another step out of her way.
She tilts her head at me and I feel the soil tremble as Scott must have jumped down the stage to reach us.
“Don’t you want to congratulate me? I just got proclaimed your Luna!” She smiles mockingly, my heart twisting at the desperation I am feeling at this outrageous situation and his scent enveloping me.
“April, don’t act like this!” Scott reprimands me in an annoyed tone.
“Don’t ruin this special day for everyone.”
“Of course not,” I say, hating how my eyes well up with tears.
“Congratulations, Hailey.”
“Oh, please call me Luna!” she giggles again, making me feel even more humiliated.
“Congratulations, my Luna,” I say through gritted teeth, my voice shaking because of the sobs fighting their way up my throat.
Hailey smiles happily and passes me without even sparing me another glance.
Feeling paralyzed with shock, I watch Hailey reach Scott and greet him with a kiss. He takes her hand, and together they get back up onto the stage.
Under the pitiful looks of the people around me, I excuse myself and walk away.
I know exactly that this is highly disrespectful behavior and that I would have probably been punished for it by the new Alpha and Luna, but at this moment I couldn’t care less.
As soon as I’m far enough from the crowd, I start running, holding up the skirt of my long gown to prevent me from stumbling over it. I feel stupid as I made my mother buy it for this occasion, only to look good for him.
Reaching a small cage, I don’t care about how I would ruin the dress as I crawl into the narrow space.
I sit at the end of the cave, burying my head into my arms as I pull my legs closer and cry my heart out.
My heart hurts so much and I feel so incredibly stupid. I don’t even notice how the hours go by as my tears finally stop falling.
Wiping the tears from my cheeks, I take a deep breath and decide to rot in this small cave forever as I hear a giggle outside.
“Hailey?” I whisper to myself, and groan, really not wanting to find my crush making out with that stupid girl.
It is quite a secluded place out here, and I don’t know many people, besides my pathetic ass, who would come out here.
As soon as I’ve crawled out of the cave, I spot Hailey right away.
But she is alone.
I lift a brow and scurry after her, just to see her walking towards the pack’s borders.
“Hailey!” I shout, wanting to stop her. “Wait, it’s dangerous over there.”
Lifting my gown slightly, I run in her direction, looking around constantly to find someone from the border patrol.
‘Where are they?’ I ask myself as I pick up my speed to reach her.
“Hailey!” I call again, but she doesn’t seem to be able to hear me.
“Hailey, the pack’s territory ends there. Do not cross the border!”
She looks back at me from a distance but doesn't stop.
Just as I’m getting closer to her, I hear a rustling in the trees and I stop to lift my gaze, turning around to spot who it might be.
A scream resounds from the direction in which Hailey went and I turn my head panicky just to see a shadow in the corner of my eyes.
I don’t even get to react in time as I get tackled out of nowhere and hit my head as I fall onto the ground. With a groan, I try to get up, but my body gives out, and I get enveloped in darkness.
ScottI beg your fucking pardon?Standing there, I glare at the General who stares back without moving or saying anything else. Only a few heartbeats later do I realize that I didn’t say the words out loud. What the fuck did you just say? Even my wolf has stopped mocking me as I fail to open my mouth once again. My entire body feels absurdly heavy, and a strange tingling sensation spreads into my limbs from my core while I numb down more and more. “We suspect several members of your pack to be involved in a conspiracy against you. The little she-wolf that we questioned had a lot of stories and excuses ready to sell us before she finally cracked. Seeing her state of mind and her obsession for you, it’s clear that she had help with setting all those things up. It was obvious from the beginning that she is just a small piece of an incredibly complicated puzzle in the big picture, so she couldn’t tell us much. But, she was able to tell us what her role was, and her words led us to a c
Dear Lovelies Thank you for reading and for your patience while waiting for updates. As you know, I have encountered some health issues that I had to tackle down first. I am slowly getting better, but it takes time. Unfortunately, the stress coming with the exams around the corner led to a bit of a setback, and I had to go to the doctor's to change my medication. With new medication, there comes fear and, more importantly, fatigue, which I am trying hard to cope with. At the same time, I had to lower my dosage of Ritalin intake, which doesn't help at all, but is important for my heart. I hope to adjust to it soon, but even my doctors said not to force it, because it will take a few weeks before it will happen naturally. Two years ago, I lost my uncle because of a heart attack; he was just in his early forties. This broke our hearts and ignited a new fear in our family, but maybe it was also what saved my father's and my life. So that's why I am being extra cautious when it comes t
ScottI know that I have assigned them the rooms to use at their disposal. I know that to secure the most unbiased and in-depth investigation results, we had those quarters locked down. But being led through the hallways of my own pack house as if I were a total stranger doesn’t sit well with me. Watching the broad shoulders of General Alastor while following him, I suppress a tsk at the anger rising in me. There is nearly nobody who is taller than me, not even among the alphas in the strongest packs around mine. I am towering over most of them. Especially over that stopper of alpha Noah. That thought gets me to smirk, but I lose it quickly. Why did they send this guy out of all of them? ‘I don’t think that April is easily impressed only by tallness,’ my wolf wheezes while trying not to laugh too hard. Idiot. Erecting a wall between us because I am tired of his know-it-all demeanor, I roll back my shoulders, concentrating on the general again. Still. I am already pissed that
Scott ‘Who am I to stop you,’ my wolf mocks, commenting on the mantra I am murmuring in my head. Stay away from her. Why are you getting so close to her? Back up! Just when my sense is kicking back in, forcing me to distance myself from her, something flashes up in her eyes. Her irises light up, an unfamiliar color circling in them before disappearing again. Even if I hate to admit it, I have known her for long enough. And this is not her wolf. While my brain is working hard to solve the mystery of where it might come from, I inadvertently inch closer. Her tongue darts out to wet her lips, signalling me something unconsciously before she averts her gaze. “You could be honest for once, you know.” The glistering on her lipstick-red lips captures me in a trance, and before I can help it, my hands have already moved. The tingling of the sparks travels up my fingers, spreading on my palms as I hold her chin to get her eyes back on me. ‘This will not end well,’ my wolf
April “Don’t you want to know what was in the bottle?” His question triggers me to look at the jar automatically, spotting the droplets left in it. I feel like it is a trap, but I seem to have long lost the ability to think logically. “What was in the bottle?” I ask, and he grins slyly, stepping closer. He hands me the jar, and I fold my fingers around it, closing it in my fist. It isn't as cold as I would have expected, and I guess that it is the warmth of Scott’s hand left on the glass that is just streaming into my palm. “I gave the original bottle to the lycans,” he whispers, making me look up at him. “To have it tested, so we don’t know for certain. We suspect that it is some kind of benzodiazepine. The brownish color would indicate some street-level quality or that it was contaminated.” “That would explain a lot,” I observe calmly, and I get enraptured by the sparks the pride flashing up in his eyes creates. “Someone did his research right.” I have to suppress a l
April Snatching my wrist, he pulls me back, preventing me from grabbing the doorknob that was just inches within my reach. “The fuck?” he snarls, turning me around, only to make my back hit the wall. “What did you just say?” I stand my ground, ignoring the pain of the impact pulsating up my back, and refuse to squirm in his grip. “That you tortured me and didn’t mind asking for my help even though you knew it would—” “Not that,” he barks, causing the words to get stuck in my throat. “I took advantage of you? While you were obviously not in a conscious state?” I grit my teeth, wanting to disappear through the wall so I could escape him holding me hostage. “That’s not even the worst you have done to me. At least this time, I didn’t have to live through it. No way this is the only thing, in all that I told you that you registered with that fast brain of yours.” “The fuck, April?” he growls, baring his fangs that look like they are growing. “You are not calling me a rapist. You were
April Time slows down, my surroundings only moving in slow motion as I try to think about a way not to die. The screams around me get drowned out by the loud sound of the blood rushing through my ears, and I can recognize the warriors and Beta Daniel moving from the corner of my eyes. But they a
April Opening my eyes, I find myself lying in an amazingly cozy bed. “Goddess, am I dead?” I whisper, and I doubt my own question even before I hear Daisy’s whimper as my mouth feels dry as hell. And I guess I would feel better if I were dead. No one would have to face the Moon Goddess with
April I watch the warriors of my pack bring in my instruments after I had asked every one of Alpha Scott’s pack to leave the room in order to be able to work in peace. I had already received enough dirty looks just from the few people who had seen me since I entered the pack grounds, and I was
April “Angel,” I pick up the phone, Alpha Noah looking up and separating the pen he was chewing on from his lips to look at me questioningly. “You wish,” Liam barks out a laugh, making me roll my eyes. “What do you want, Beta Liam?” I ask, trying to keep my voice from shaking and adjusting my t
