My heart started to swell with anxiety and fear as I started walking down the hallway toward my dad's hospital bed. I could not relax until I saw my father once more. The cancer, which I never quite understood to be a brain tumor, caused my father to lose consciousness. The doctor diagnosed it as a result of lifelong stress and blood pressure that was too high for a middle-aged man to manage at that particular time in his life. With tears streaming from her eyes, my mother ran to me as soon as I opened the door and said, "Ward 10B." She became very emotional without even thinking twice."Is dad getting better?" I continued to ask, tears welling up in my eyes, but at that moment, nobody could offer us comfort; only my dad, who was staring at both my mom and me, was unable to speak a word, and when I turned to look at him, I saw that his condition had gotten worse already, his body gradually becoming wet."Mom," I said to my mom as I was leaving her to cry and walked to my dad's wheelchair, where I helped my dad sit because his body was at ease and he had no idea what he was doing. With tears in my eyes, I carried my dad to the bathroom and cleaned him up with a great deal of sympathy because my mom was unable to enter the room at all because she was witnessing her husband's terrible suffering and had no means of sealing it off except poverty.Since my dad's sudden illness, I have had to take care of the family's food since I was a young child. My mom was a stay-at-home mom because my dad told her to, but since then, I have carried a heavy burden. My mom, wearing a frown, said, "We do not have enough money to pay for your dad's important medical bills," as my dad and I emerged from the bathroom. I was already feeling extremely stressed out from my dad's heavy body and my work."Mom, I am not in a relationship with a CEO or anything like that, and I am having a lot of financial difficulties supporting the family's". I said angrily as my mother drew nearer, "I am so worried about this right now. You could just get something done to support with all the whole bills."She slapped me on the face and said, "Do not talk to me like that," which made me look down in a fit of raging rage."Even though you bring in food and pay some of the bills here, that does not give you the right to speak without respect for me, you bitch. Your dad wanted me to always be a stay at home mom, so that is why I am not working now." Her anger was evident from the way she looked at me as she yelled at me.I walked out of my dad's ward and onto the bench in front of the ward, leaving them both furious. "I am just giving you a chance because you arw my mom and dad will not be Happy at all so I leave you to him to cater for and care for also," I said."Fuck" I said, tossing my bag against the wall as I sat down next to it and picking it up right away. I bowed my head like I would at a prayer service and sobbed bitterly about what was wrong with my dad, especially his health since I knew my mom was always against me and treated me like their foster child. I had a lot of thoughts about that and always felt helpless because she always claimed to have a higher power than me and I could not do anything about it.The doctor was wearing a long white jacket and a suit, which gave him a great appearance. However, he was not the one I always saw coming to visit my dad informally. "Hello Miss Amelia," I stood up as soon as my name was mentioned." How may I help you?" I asked politely with a smile to him since I couldn't lay my mom's anger all just asked a calm question to me." Am the newly assigned Doctor to Mr. William and from the " I interrupted him immediately with my own words making him shut up his mouth."I'm Amelia, is only child " I replied giving a slight nod as a sign of respect to him since he was older than me from just his face looking alone. The middle-aged man gave his hand out for a handshake which I responded immediately." Can you then lead the way to your dad's ward?" The middle-aged man asked with a great smile and respect as we both walked down to my dad's Ward to see my mom in crying mode." Ma'am stop crying so you won't fall sick and make your husband matter worse " That was the doctor's first statement as we both walked in, to meet my dad. Down in me, I was giving more pity for my mom and her always crying habit but since we both had an issue I couldn't just go telling her to stop crying due to her negative character and words to almost everyone not even excluding me her daughter, her words are harsh same with her character towards me and everyone expect her husband and lover." Doctor, please how can we help my dad?" I asked being so in need of a quick answer since all that gave me a life and space to survive was my dad and I could trade anything to make him get better by all means." Only a surgery could help him get better and it is based on a fifty-fifty " I interrupted." We know it is a surgery just how much would it cost for the surgery to take place?" I asked with a frown this time cause I knew that I had to get broke again I had my dad's illness." 50,000$," he said." What the fuck?" My mom yelled from behind making myself and the doctor look at her."That's on the high side where do you seek us to get such an amount for a surgery, that nobody is sure the patient to survive" my mom said angrily and with much rudeness." Thanks, doctor," I said holding the doctor in his hands and taking him out immediately my phone made a buzz in my pocket and I picked it up."Mr. Smith," I uttered while displaying confusion.ANABEL'S POV I walked into Chloe's apartment, the place I had been staying for over a week, exhausted and drained. I slammed the door shut hard, like I was taking out all my frustration from today's failed job interview on it. The sound echoed throughout the apartment, bouncing off the walls and filling the place for a few seconds before everything went quiet again. I stood there, breathing heavily, my hand still resting on the doorknob. Another interview. Another rejection. Another reminder that the life I used to have was gone. I threw my bag onto the couch and walked straight to the kitchen to grab myself a glass of water. At this point, it was almost starting to feel like there was no point in job hunting when every attempt ended the same way. Every place I went seemed interested at first. They would smile, ask me questions, nod along as I spoke, and then eventually the conversation would reach the same point. Do you have a degree? And just like that, everything would c
CIERRA'S POV My hand slowly rubbed Roman’s chest as we both lay there in bed, wrapped in silence. I was curled up comfortably in his arms while he stared up at the ceiling, and for a while, neither of us spoke. We simply remained there, enjoying the peace that came with the moment. Out of everything that had happened this week, these moments were easily my favorite. A small smile appeared on my face as I rested my head against his shoulder. Sometimes I wished time would just stop whenever I was here. No worrying about what excuse I would use next. Unfortunately, life never worked that way. Just when I was beginning to enjoy the silence, the sound of my phone buzzing on the table immediately drew both our attention. I already knew what it was before I even picked it up. With a small sigh, I stretched across the bed and grabbed my phone. Just as I expected, it was my alarm. I always set an alarm whenever I came to see Roman. At first, it was because I was afraid of losing track
CIERRA'S POV “Babe,” I said as I approached Miles by the poolside. He gently looked up at me from his laptop, his expression immediately telling me to speak. His fingers paused above the keyboard while his attention shifted fully toward me. “I wanna show you something,” I said before opening my phone and going straight to my gallery. I began scrolling through the pictures on my phone, searching for one in particular. It had to be somewhere here. I knew I still had it. When I first used this excuse on Zach, I had gone out of my way to make it believable. Back then, I generated a fake movie ticket image with ChatGPT just to make sure he wouldn't question anything. The memory almost made me laugh honestly, I never thought I would end up using the same trick again, but why fix something that wasn't broken? The excuse worked perfectly before there was no reason it wouldn't work now. I continued scrolling through dozens of old images until I finally found what I was looking for.
CIERRA'S POV I have to say, watching that cab move farther and farther away yesterday was one of the most joyous things I've felt in a very long time. The thought crossed my mind once again as I slowly walked around the living room. Even now, almost a full day later, the satisfaction still hadn't faded. In fact, every single time I remembered the look on Anabel's face as she left, the feeling only became stronger. I mean, who would've thought she'd decide to walk away from all this by herself? She's clearly nothing but a gold digger, so why... I bent slightly and looked toward the poolside through the large glass doors. Miles was still sitting over there with his laptop open in front of him. His attention seemed completely occupied by whatever work he was doing. A small smile appeared on my face. Yesterday, when Anabel left, I had briefly become worried. The way Miles stood there watching her leave almost made me think there was still a tiny piece of him somewhere that care
MILES' POV “Are you sure you're fine?” I asked Cierra again as she continued shaking, tears sliding down her cheeks. Seeing her like that only made the rage inside me grow worse. My breathing became heavier as I stared at the red mark forming on her face. That good-for-nothing bitch. How dare s
ANABEL'S POV I mean, I should remember. I was in the passenger seat when I left, so why was it so difficult for me to remember? The more I thought about it, the more annoyed I became with myself. It wasn't like I was unconscious the entire ride. I was sitting right there beside the driver. I shou
ANABEL'S POVI didn’t even recognize the confused look on my own face as I stared at the next picture. For several seconds, I simply sat there looking at my phone screen without moving. The picture itself wasn’t complicated. It wasn’t anything shocking, yet somehow it still managed to confuse me
ANABEL'S POV I took a small breath, steadying my emotions and finally pushing away all the tears I'd been crying for the past few minutes. Every now and then, I could still feel the heaviness lingering in my chest, but I couldn't keep breaking down forever. There was no room for tears anymore. Y
