Leo’s POV

I returned home the next morning completely exhausted and already running behind schedule. The pack banquet was scheduled to begin before noon and Selene and I were expected to arrive together as Alpha and Luna.

The banquet was to celebrate the indoctrination of young wolves into warriors. The council of elders and pack members will all be present.

I had completely forgotten about it the night before and only remembered when Kade called.

Leaving Selene all alone last night still haunted but there was nothing I could do, I just couldn’t have left Amelia to be on her own due to the pain she was feeling.

For someone I didn’t love or care about, she had been on my mind throughout the night and I just couldn’t understand why.

I had visited a flower shop to get her favorite flowers, white roses to apologize to her. Selene wasn’t one to throw tantrums and I knew once she sees her favorite flower, she’d forgive me.

Clearing my throat softly, I gently opened the door hoping to find Selene curled up in bed but all I saw was an empty bed with the sheets on the floor.

My brows furrowed in confusion as I my gaze scanned the room. “Selene?” I called moving toward the bathroom but was met with silence.

I let out a tired sigh. The banquet was about to start in a couple of hours and I didn’t have time for this silly game she wanted to play.

With a grunt, I bent down to pick up the sheets from the floor when my eyes caught sight of something.

A file.

With raised brows, I picked it up and immediately emptied its contents.

My breath hitched as my gaze landed on a divorce letter already signed by Selene.

I scoffed, irritation flooding me at her tantrum. I was about to discard the document when another piece of paper slipped through.

Color drained from my face and beads of sweat formed on my forehead as I held the document tightly, unable to tear my gaze from it. The document showed proof of Selene terminating our baby, the one child I had hoped and prayed for for years.

“No… No. This isn’t possible, Selene would never do this to me. She loved me too much to do this to me,” I murmured hoarsely, my heart thudding in fear.

I made my way towards the wardrobe and her dressing table and saw that every single item was intact which only meant this was some sick joke.

Anger rushed through me as I squeezed the document in my hands. Was she mistaking my kindness for weakness?

With the speed of flash, I immediately rang the bell for the maid, and in a few seconds, she arrived.

“Where’s my mate?” I demanded impatiently.

“She went out since last night with a friend, your highness.”

“A friend? What friend?”

“I don’t know your highness. He came to the house and picked her up last night and she hasn’t returned since then.”

“He?” I muttered slowly, my face contorting into a frown.

Disgust and rage rushed through me at the thought of Selene cheating and a low growl escaped me.

“You watched my Luna leave with a man whom I have never welcomed here before and you didn’t deem it fit to place a call to me immediately?”

“Bunch of fools, all of you,” I yelled in anger. “Get out.”

The banquet. Despite my rage, the thought of the humiliation being asked to present my Luna at the banquet filled my thoughts. The Luna’s blessing was required and cannot be substituted or overlooked.

Rage, worry and urgency engulfed me like wild fire and I was at loss for what to do.

I immediately grabbed my phone, placing a call to my beta.

“Selene left the house since last night, I need you to find her now and bring her to me immediately before the banquet officially begins. Also, apprehend whosoever she was with.”

“Yes, Alpha,” Kade replied without hesitation before he hung up.

A frustrated sigh escaped my lips and I tossed the phone on the bed, running my fingers through my hair in confusion. None of this made any sense. Selene would never want to publicly humiliate me like this. She was meek, she literally would never go against me.

Just as I walked toward her dressing table again, my eyes caught sight of a wine colored dress hauled up in a corner underneath the table. In confusion, I slowly bent down and picked up the dress, only to realize it was the same dress I had ordered for Selene to wear to the banquet and it was completely damaged.

Was this her way of punishing me for leaving last night?

My eyes traveled back to the divorce document and the medical report and my chest tightened. Would she really terminate our baby just cause of her anger toward me?

“No she wouldn’t. Sel would never leave me,” I muttered to myself. “She loved me even more than herself.”

Using mate bond, I tried to connect to her but our bond felt weak, faint. Like it would snap any moment from now. Pain crept into my heart, mixing with anger.

A low growl tore through my throat as images of her lying in bed with another man ran through my mind.

Selene Casper! The rejected wolf I had taken pity on and made my mate against my better judgment. If only Amelia hadn’t gotten into that accident that cost her eyes, then I wouldn’t have made Selene my Luna. I had brought her into my home, and treated her better than anyone ever has but she still had the audacity to do this to me? After everything I have done and given to her?

The sound of my phone blaring brought me out of my reverie. I exhaled slowly, trying to calm my raging emotions before picking up the call.

“Kade,” I answered.

“Alpha, the Luna is no longer in the pack. I traced the vehicle that picked her up,” he said. “Alpha, it wasn’t one of ours.”

My grip tightened around the phone. “What do you mean it wasn’t one of ours?”

“The car has no pack registration. No scent trail I recognize either. Whoever took her isn’t one of us or he either knows how to cover his tracks.”

My brows furrowed at his words. When did she start interacting with outsiders? I had literally made sure she didn’t even interact with pack members, so as not to embarrass me.

My jaw clenched as anger burned through me. I had controlled every aspect of her life for her own good. I had kept her safe. Sheltered. Protected her from the filth of this world and this was how she repaid me?

“Find her,” I said darkly. “I don’t care how long it takes. I want her in front of me unharmed with the man who dared to take her away. Do you understand?”

“Yes, alpha,” Kade replied, hanging up the call.

I stood rooted to the spot, my chest rising and falling heavily. My gaze traveled round the room and my heart twitched slightly.

The house felt emptier and colder than it had ever been before. Her scent which usually lingered in every corner was almost gone.

I should be happy that an undeserving woman like her was now out of my hair but I wasn’t. I told myself it was over my child, over the banquet and disrespect I would experience but deep down I knew it was a lie. It unsettled me more than I cared to admit.

I stormed out of the room in anger, my footsteps echoing through the hall.

Selene was mine! And she’ll remain mine forever unless I say otherwise.

“If you think you can run from me with my child,” I muttered darkly. “You are gravely mistaken, Selene.”

Lucian’s POVThe nearest medical facility with enough equipment to handle dark magic and the kind of injury that Selene sustained was on the neutral grounds amd it was three minutes away from where we were. I had never wished that I knew medicine like I did at that moment.I carried her, half Kairos and half my own form. I could barely see through the tension rising in me, nor could I hear her heartbeat well over my racing one.I didn’t wait to use a car, Kairos was two times faster than any car we’d find. So, we cut down the three minutes to one minute and thirty seconds. When we got to the hospital and I was told to place her on a stretcher, I refused. “Where’s the room she’ll be taken to?” I asked them, knowing they’d be so slow that Kairos might fully shift right there in that hallway. They seemed to understand what was going on and really pointed me to the room that they intended to put her in. I dropped her there and only then did I look up to look around the room and it was to

Selene’s POVHe looked at Vera on the ground and the look on his face wasn’t one that I was familiar with.No one answered the question he just asked, we were all just staring at Vera’s body on the ground. More black blood pooled out of her body.I looked back at Axel and saw that he didn’t even look like what he was when he was the council head, nor did he look like he looked when he sat across from me and Lucian and confessed to being willing enough to assist with taking down Vera.He looked like a man who was consumed by guilt instead. The real and unmanaged kind of grief that didn’t care if anyone was watching.“What have you done?!” He yelled.I straightened and stood up properly, “She’s dead, Axel.” I said, still trying to figure out why he looked like he had just been told very bad news.He looked up from Vera to me and the expression on his face was no longer grief but… anger.“You killed her.” He said in an accusing tone.“She would have killed everyone in this room,” I said

Lucian’s POVShe rose up and the feeling of familiarity struck me hard. I had surely seen her before. That, I was sure of.Vera’s eyes moved from mine, going past mine to Selene who was a bit beside and behind me. She had just the exact hatred of a woman who has spent thirty years hating another person and has just gotten the opportunity to come face to face with them.“And you…” she trailed off, pointing at Selene. “You who walked in and took everything that was meant to be—”I cut her off and shook my head, “This ends tonight.”She did not come at me quietly. I swiftly moved Selene behind me while Vera stretched out her hand and moved with the speed of someone who has been using dark magic as their supplement for years, one that wasn’t in any way similar to natural speed but rather the one that seemed borrowed and was burning hard. The same vessel that she used on Selene — the dark magic — was pointed at my warriors and two of them flew across the room, hitting the wall. Selene yelp

Leo’s POVI found out about the attack from Corvin but the twist was that Vera wasn’t the one who launched the attack. The attack went to meet her rather. It’s morning at Moonbound and I’m sitting in my office, the same one that I started to use recently. Corvin just came in, having just gotten off the call with whatever informant he had in the lycan kingdom.“And I heard something rather thrilling that explained why King Lucian and his people had to attack Vera first.” He said.“What is it?”“Vera used a compulsion spell on Selene and made her attack Lucian.”I peeked up, “Wait, what?”“Yes. She used Selene on Lucian and I heard that if it wasn’t that Selene is already one with Lucian, she might have ended him.”I can’t believe that I almost considered working with Vera. I almost considered conniving with her so I could use the opportunity when she attacks Lucian to get Selene back. I had the whole plan in motion in my head already.Thank goodness I thought about it very well before

Lucian’s POVThe castle knows already, and I was very certain about that. And the moment I stepped out of my chambers, the whispers and gatherings of pack manners at different points met my ears.Everyone thinks that Selene is who they assumed she was from the beginning — an enemy of the kingdom. They assume that she did the attacking of her own free will. So even though I was very busy, I called for an emergency meeting with pack members who’d be free to attend. They came and I said what I had to say immediately. “My mate did not attack me on purpose, she was used as a vessel by a dark magic practitioner with a thirty year obsession to the throne.” I start.“I will not hear otherwise, not from this gathering or the outer ward. The murmurings and whispers about her should stop immediately. She’s feeling guilty enough about it, so no one should make it any worse than it is.” I held the room’s gaze.“It’s the evidence of the length at which the enemy in question is ready to go. What we

Selene’s POVThe last thing I remembered was sitting down and Lucian feeding me food, then the next thing I knew, I was on the ground, and Lucian was bleeding out while I held a bloodied knife.I blinked once, then twice. I proceeded to pinch myself hard bit I wasn’t dreaming. Lucian was still on the ground and was bleeding out, and seven warriors were looking at me like I was some monster.I gasped, my eyes wide with terror. I dropped the blade, and it fell to the ground with a clanging sound. I moved away from Lucian, but he grabbed me before I got out of arm's reach — with that same bloodied arm.“Hey, hey.” He said, and it seemed the more I stared at the bleeding arm, the more I despised myself.“I don’t remember, I don’t know what happened, I swear. I was just… everything was black.” I rushed out the words. He took my second hand and made me look at him even more. “Look at me. Just look into my eyes, then breathe in and out.” He commanded. “You are safe, and I’m fine.”I shook my
