Isabella had to force herself to breathe.

Breathe. She told herself.

You can't break down here. You cannot fall apart.

She had, in truth, never actually met the woman of which Ronan spoke. But like an ever-present body, the woman was there, between them, a constant nuisance in their marriage. And she was back.

Back in their lives. Back to completely strip her of what she loved fiercely. Tears welled up in her eyes and she blinked them away rapidly.

"I am telling you this so that you do not make the mistake of making the truth of our marriage public. I do not want a scandal."

"A scandal," she repeated, brokenly, while Ronan watched her with eyes as cold as ice as he always did.

But today, that ice was like a dagger, cutting through her heart into tiny little unmendable pieces.

You break my heart and all you can think of is a scandal. She thought bleakly.

For eight years she had loved him. With body, with soul, with heart and mind.

She had loved him, and given him the best of her, but still, he watched her with no emotions. And when there were emotions, it was either hate or disregard.

She took it all in stride, in hopes that one day things would change. In hopes that one day, some kind of flicker of love would light up in his heart for her. And oh how completely wrong and naive she had been to believe such a lie.

For here he was, bringing up the woman who was back, and jealousy welled up in his heart.

It was comical really, to be jealous for a man who really didn't care for her. Even after using her, he still treated her like trash.

"Ronan, these past years, did you ever, did you ever love me? For once?" she found herself asking, and her voice sounded odd to her ears. It sounded like a little child, desperate for love.

But she had to know. She simply needed to.

"No, Isabella. Not even once." he bit out and tore out her heart

But she snorted. Not even once.

He still watched her with those eyes, and they became like mockery to her, laughing at her naivety, laughing at her love for him, laughing at the way she hope he would love her.

For three years they'd been married, three years she had done all of the things a wife should and shouldn't do. For three years.

And what did she get in return?

Shame, and disgrace. Hurt, and irrational hatred. And she didn't deserve any of that.

And she laughed, a small snort that grew into hysterics, and Ronan watched her, confused.

He didn't understand why she had been standing so still since he gave her the news that the woman was back, and now she was laughing like one who had lost her mind.

But Isabella’s laughter soon grew into tears. Tears of pain, as she mourned all that she had hoped for and never gotten. As she mourned all of the parts she had lost for him. Always for him.

But he would never love her. That much was now very clear as daylight.

"Do you worry that our marriage should not become public?" she asked, dabbing at her wet cheeks, "then don't you worry, Ronan. Nothing of such will ever happen. I can assure you," she said and raised her head like a flint, jutting out her chin in his direction.

She had made her choice, no one would ever know of their marriage, because in a matter of days, their marriage was going to be over.

He looked at her, feeling nothing as close to compassion at her, but couldn't help but admit one thing that made his brows furrow. He might have had a hard time standing her, but she was very beautiful.

A shame, he thought, that such a beautiful face belonged to one he found terribly annoying.

"Well," he began harshly, "seeing as we are both on the same page, you can now leave my office," he said coldly.

Odd, how she didn't even feel the need to scream at him. Oh, her heart was definitely broken, and the pieces lay shattered at his feet. But all the fight had actually left her,

"As you wish, Ronan." and turned around and headed for the door.

Before she left, she took one look at him and quietly said, "I'm so sorry."

"My Endorsement has been cut off? For what? Because of whom?" Isabella asked totally confused. She tried to think of what could have caused it, but nothing came to her mind,"That's the thing. The reason is still a bit buggy, I'm still trying to understand. And as for whim, I'm hearing it's because of a woman called Eileen Walsh. The sneer came automatically into Isabella's features,"That one," Isabella said, venom slipping into her words.August had been working with Isabella for three years. She considered her a sweetheart, a joy to be around and work it. It was rare to hear Isabella talk about anyone with that tone, so it really had her thinking."why? Do you know her?"Know her? Isabella thought, her anger coming back,"You have no idea." Isabella muttered and let out a breath, "August. We can't let Eileen get away with this." Isabella said passionately, "We'll take her to court if we have to.""Bella, are you sure about this?" August asked, suddenly worried about her behavior. T

"What are you talking about?" Eileen asked, holding tighter onto Isabella when Isabella reached to unclasp her hand from her wrist."my ancestors were soldiers. My grandfather would die before he knelt before any man. And here you are, kneeling before me pitifully. How could we be kin, with you acting this way? Grandfather would be ashamed. So please, for the sake of my grandfather, you can stop being such a doll face and stand up." Isabella said, the last line of her statement laced with sarcasm. She turned to Simon when she finished speaking and continued, "Although, what can one expect when she has a father such as the one she has? Not much of a soldier, not much of a fighter. Not even Ronan, and how I could ever want such people in my life is beyond me. Not sure how I couldn't see it all before." she said, self-deprecatingly.Ronan stared at her completely short of words.Drawing her eyes away from the both of them, her mood completely sour, she finally pushed Eileen away, and wip

All the while, during the exchange between Isabella and her father, Eileen had remained quiet. Usually, she liked to see herself as perceptive. Knowing when to speak up in a situation and when to keep quiet. And for the longest time she had chosen to keep quiet in the face of Isabella's arrogance.Instead she plotted and planned, terribly happy with the way the plan was going in her head. As she saw it, Isabella was terribly stubborn, and would irritate Simon to no need, which she was pleased about. The, more she irritated their father, the fewer possessions Simon would want to give to her when he died. In the end, everything would be hers.At least that's how Eileen saw it.The idea so pleased Eileen's heart that she was willing to act out the role of self-abasement, so alas she spoke up."Daddy, don't be angry with Isabella. Like I said, if she doesn't see me as family, it's fine. What matters is that you see me and that you and my mother are happy. Isabella's choices are hers and I

Isabella sneered at him, "How dare I? Is that what you ask, Simon?""I'm your Father, Isabella. I raised you, and you can threaten me this way? Talk to me this way?"Isabella didn't say anything in response but simply looked at him. He heaved out a breath and turned to Eileen. She was so sweet and disciplined and didn't stress out his mind or heart. Not like Isabella. Where Eileen was a sweet child that made him feel like a proud father, Isabella wore him out and made him feel less than a man. She barely even regarded him as a father,She reminded him so much of her mother. She too had an uncanny way of making him feel useless."I really don't have to deal with all this." Isabella muttered shaking her head and then turning on her father again, "You want me so badly to treat you like my father. All you do is remind me that you're my father, then act like it. Stop trying to display just how much of a cheat you were and are. Be responsible for once. Do the right thing by me and my mother

"Mr. Patterson." One of the waiters said, distracting him from his thoughts and he turned to the waiter irritably, before the waiter could say anything else, or he could even give the waiter a piece of his mind, his eyes found Isabella. He didn't go to her immediately, but instead watched her. She stood her back straight, her hands clenched in fists, as though she was resisting the urge to throw a punch.Who was this woman and what had she done to the Isabella that he remembered? That Isabella had been timid, more like a puppet. This Isabella was more like a figure of retribution. She looked like the Isabella he remembered. She just didn't act like her."How dare you, Simon? What gives you the audacity to call this lady my sister?" she barely looked At Eileen, but stared down at her father in contempt. And her contempt made him uneasy. She alienated him and treated him like less than nothing, as though he wasn't her father."Eileen is my daughter, which in turn makes her your sister.

Isabella couldn't even find the right words to respond to her with. She was tired and truly on the verge of being very pissed. Not paying attention to Isabella's brewing mood, August looked out the glass doors of the hotel until she noticed a black Ferrari.Three years ago, when she first met Isabella, she had learned of Her ex-husband back here in Ireland, had also learned of the story behind Isabella's divorce and her son Noah and had felt that any man who could force a woman to choose divorce and their one-year-old child to deal with life by themselves couldn't possibly be very good. She suddenly felt the root of Isabella's anger, and said,"Don't you worry, you aren't going anyway, I'm not going to let him take you if you aren't interested in go-"But before August could finish her statement, she heard a voice call out Isabella's name, and turning to the direction in which the voice came, they were met with a pair of angry eyes, intensely focused on Isabella. And alas, she felt th

She was still oblivious to him, even after he'd been in the room for some time.
