Chapter 2

Author: Bright Lights
I sighed. “I’m there to perform an exorcism. That manor isn’t even mine. I don’t have the right to bypass my client and let you move in.”

Ronald scoffed. “If you don’t want us to move in there, just say it. What’s the point in saying all these things?”

“Yeah. I don’t want you to move in,” I shot back, but it only made Ronald mad.

“Apollo, is this how you’re supposed to talk to your elders? I’m telling you right now, we’re staying in the manor. End of discussion.”

I found myself rendered completely speechless and was thinking that I should just let them in. If they all lost their minds, they might start behaving.

However, as a professional ghost hunter, I still decided to patiently persuade him against his decision. “I’m telling you the truth, Uncle. No one can live in that manor. Why don’t I transfer three thousand dollars to you, and you stay in a hotel with the others?”

Right after I finished talking, Ronald scoffed and hung up.

I thought that he had given up and sighed in relief. So, I called a cab and was just about to go back when my phone vibrated.

When I unlocked it, I found that Ronald had tagged everyone with the following announcement in the family group chat.

[Guys, I’m going to bring all of you along to the capital for Jessica’s graduation trip. We’ll go dutch for the traveling fees, but Apollo will be providing accommodations for free. It’s a manor that’s ten thousand square feet big. There are plenty of rooms there. If you want to join, come along. This is a rare opportunity. You can bring your relatives and in-laws along too. The more, the better.]

The group went wild.

Uncle Gary: You did well with the arrangements, Apollo.

Aunt Nina: Since you worked so hard for this, I’ll take you up to your offer. I’ll bring my in-laws and children along.

Granduncle: I have a horrible back and can’t sleep on soft beds. Make sure that the mattress is hard.

Uncle Tom: I heard that the capital’s roasted ducks are the best, but you’d have to get the authentic ones. Make the arrangements for it, Apollo.

My expression turned dark.

But Ronald had already said yes to all those demands on my behalf. [Don’t worry. Apollo is a good kid. Just voice whatever requests you have, and he’ll satisfy all of them. Isn’t that right, @Apollo?]

He even tagged me.

He was trying to guilt-trip me, was he not? Dream on!

[That’s not my house, and I never said yes to you staying there. Get a hotel. I’m not an errand boy either. Buy whatever you want to eat on your own.]

The group went silent for a while before Nina tagged Ronald in displeasure.

Aunt Nina: Didn’t you say that everything is already settled? What’s the meaning of this?

Ronald was furious and stopped trying to talk to me. He tagged my parents instead. [@Alicia, @Bob, didn’t you teach your kid manners? We’re a family. Why is he being so fussy?]

The moment I sent the message, I muted my phone and slept in the cab.

When it stopped in front of my run-down residential area, I woke up to pay for the trip back.

When I unlocked my phone, though, I was bombarded with a flood of messages and notifications.

Ninety-nine of them were missed calls from my mother, and one one-minute-long voice message from my father.

When I opened the door, my mother shouted at me, as if she was boiling with resentment, “I called you so many times. Why didn’t you answer? Also, we’re a family! Ronald already asked you for the manor. Why didn’t you just say yes? We’ve always told you to not be so petty since you were a kid!”

I ignored their pleas for mercy. Later on, Ronald could only bring Jessica back to take care of her, since he had drained even his emergency savings. Since I had somehow gotten rid of the evil spirit, I got a huge sum of money from my client, and I became a famous ghost hunter too. Then, I told the client about the situation. My client immediately worked together with me to report to the police. None of the trespassers escaped from justice. In order to avoid jail time, they were willing to settle with the client privately and paid him a huge sum of money. The client asked me about it, and I nodded in agreement. Going to jail would be too easy on them. While they had not gone mad, they were still drenched in malice. They were going to be plagued with bad luck no matter what they did in the future. They had even emptied their savings in order to settle with the client. Compared to going to jail, living free was even more of a punishment. After all, I also sued those relativ

When they stole my stuff, I had wanted to call the police, but they had accused me of being immature for even thinking about it. Yet when Jessica started acting insane, Ronald immediately wanted to call the police on me, even though I had nothing to do with it. They had such double standards. Even my parents snapped at me angrily, “Jessica is your cousin! Stop joking around and help her!”I shook my head. “I can’t.”I was telling the truth, but none of them believed me, just like how they had refused to believe me when I told them that the manor was haunted. They started yelling at me again and used their statuses as my parents, aunts, and uncles to try and coerce me into action. They also kept telling me that I had to be a good son. I did not know all that talk about being a good son, but I did laugh. I hung up. Some of the gloomy feelings that had been sitting in my chest faded away and gave me relief. After they left, I went to the manor and found that all the malice

I just found the situation hilarious. They doted on me? Those relatives were the ones who took everything good from me since I was a kid. My mother would even help them financially, and she did it with all her might. Unconditionally too, at that. Because of her love, we had no money left. After that, my father then came to me and cried while telling me that he had no money to send me to school. What was I supposed to do?I had to earn money on my own, obviously. He had no money to buy clothes for me, and he could do nothing about it. I had to wear hand-me-downs while I worked hard to buy my own clothes. When I went to school, I got a student loan, and I earned money for my own living expenses. I never asked them for a single cent. Sometimes, I even had to send them money to keep them alive. While I was working from day to night, I ran into my mentor. He took pity on me, so he taught me all my skills. As I listened to them yell at me, I smirked. “Yeah, I’m ungrateful, a

“Alicia, you’re so lucky to have such a good boy, unlike my son. Forget helping out, he’s sucking our blood dry!”My mother was pleased after hearing this. She lay on the couch like she owned the place and started ordering me around. “You heard everyone, didn’t you? Order the food now.”I shook my head and scoffed. “If you want food, order it yourself. I won’t ever pay for you!”My mother’s face soured. “I’m telling you to do something, and you’re talking back?”Ronald said, “How could you be so immature, Apollo? I can’t believe you’d refuse to listen to your mother.”Nina chimed in, “That’s right, Apollo. You need to be more mature. Your mother has already told you to order food for us. Do it now. We’re hungry.”As they continued telling me to be more mature, some of them even started drooling. Even my father was giving me hints. “Apollo, it’s just a bit of money. Don’t make your mother unhappy.”I laughed bitterly. “Dad, they’re already bullying me to this point, and you still

I watched silently. Ronald was grinning broadly. “I can’t believe you’d lie to us and call this a haunted manor, Apollo. We stayed here for the night, and nothing happened. It felt great. You were just lying.”However, I could see black lines in his irises. This was a sign that he was already haunted. Jessica did not know any better and was ecstatic. “He was just lying and didn’t want us to stay here. Apollo, you’re mean. You had such high-class gaming consoles here, and you didn’t tell me? You just wanted all the fun for yourself!”In the background, Jessica was playing a VR game. That VR headset belonged to my client’s daughter. I heard that she had bought the most cutting-edge equipment, and they were really expensive. When I first moved into the manor, I only used the items I had bought with my own money. I never used anything inside. However, once those relatives went there, they acted exactly like they did when they were in my house and showed no restraint. Some wen

  • My Uncle Lost His Mind   Chapter 5

The moment Ronald finished speaking, they started looting my house, especially my house. They grabbed my shoes and all my accessories. My house descended into chaos. My parents only stood by silently. They did not even stop them. When Jessica started snapping at them to leave, Ronald finally stopped pillaging and haughtily looked at me. “We’ve got the money. You can take us to the manor now.”Did I give it to him? He stole it from me! “I told you many times before that I’m not letting you go in.” I continued saying no and asked them for payment. “I recorded all your actions just now. Put down everything in your hands and pay me back for the things you destroyed, or I’m calling the police.”Their expressions changed. Quite a number of them were terrified and wanted to put the things down, but Ronald turned to my mother and questioned her coldly, “How could someone threaten to send his aunts and uncles to the police? Aren’t you going to do anything about this?”I did not cav
