Chapter 4

Author: Bright Lights
“This doesn’t taste good at all, and it’s so overpriced as well. Apollo really just wastes money.”

Jesicca was playing games on my work laptop. When she lost, she got so angry that she punched it. “What a stupid laptop! It’s so laggy!”

The screen cracked and was entirely ruined.

When Ronald saw this, he panicked and went to check Jessica’s hand. “Don’t hit random things, Jessica. What if you hurt your hand?”

Jesicca started screeching, “Didn’t you say that we’re going to a manor and that it has everything, including game consoles? How long are we going to stay in this stupid place? The internet’s bad, and the laptop’s so laggy. My party members will definitely think I’m a noob! I’m so mad!”

The other children were swinging around the limited-edition figurines that they had broken apart and started shouting, “I want to go to the manor too! Now!”

They immediately started a “who cries louder” competition.

They were so loud that they were one hundred times more terrifying than the ghosts in the manor.

Ronald turned to me. “Hear that? Bring us over right now. Your cousins are tired of waiting. Your uncles and aunties are also tired from their flights and need to rest. Apollo, you’re already an adult. You need to be more sensible.”

As I stared at my thrashed stuff, I clenched my fists. “What about you? You’re in your fifties. You have half a foot in the grave. Don’t you know that if you take something without asking, that’s stealing? Your daughter destroyed my laptop. You need to pay up for that.”

Then, I pointed at the other children. “Those figurines are no longer in production, and their market value is one thousand dollars. Your children ruined three of them, so they owe me three thousand dollars!”

I showed them my QR code. “Pay up!”

The ruckus finally died down.

The parents of the other children immediately grabbed the broken figurines and threw them into the trash can. “I wouldn’t even want these stupid things even if they cost only three cents, and you’re asking for three thousand dollars? You think we’re easy targets, don’t you? You’re trying to scam us!”

Ronald planted his hands on his hips and started shouting, “I didn’t even blame you for your stupid laptop injuring my daughter’s hand, and you’re asking me for money? You’re so shameless!”

Martha, Ronald’s wife, did not argue with me, but she did turn to my mother in displeasure. “Alicia, look at your son. He’s arguing with us just for that bit of money. Doesn’t he know respect?”

My mother grabbed my hand. “Hurry up and apologize to your uncle and aunt.”

Ronald puffed out his chest. “We’ll set that aside for now. We came here in first-class cabins, and everyone spent three thousand dollars each. That’s six hundred thousand dollars. Pay that first.”

I laughed in exasperation. “Why should I pay for your transportation fees?”

Ronald glared at me and took his phone out before showing me my mother’s message. “You agreed to it. If you hadn’t said that you’d treat us, we wouldn’t have taken the first-class cabin. You need to pay.”

I shrugged. “I never agreed to any of it. Make the person who said it pay!”

Ronald got worked up. “If you hadn’t said yes, I wouldn’t have paid first. If you don’t pay now, I’m going to take your things to sell them and get my money back! Get his things out, everyone! If I don’t get my money back, you’re all going dutch!”

I ignored their pleas for mercy. Later on, Ronald could only bring Jessica back to take care of her, since he had drained even his emergency savings. Since I had somehow gotten rid of the evil spirit, I got a huge sum of money from my client, and I became a famous ghost hunter too. Then, I told the client about the situation. My client immediately worked together with me to report to the police. None of the trespassers escaped from justice. In order to avoid jail time, they were willing to settle with the client privately and paid him a huge sum of money. The client asked me about it, and I nodded in agreement. Going to jail would be too easy on them. While they had not gone mad, they were still drenched in malice. They were going to be plagued with bad luck no matter what they did in the future. They had even emptied their savings in order to settle with the client. Compared to going to jail, living free was even more of a punishment. After all, I also sued those relativ

When they stole my stuff, I had wanted to call the police, but they had accused me of being immature for even thinking about it. Yet when Jessica started acting insane, Ronald immediately wanted to call the police on me, even though I had nothing to do with it. They had such double standards. Even my parents snapped at me angrily, “Jessica is your cousin! Stop joking around and help her!”I shook my head. “I can’t.”I was telling the truth, but none of them believed me, just like how they had refused to believe me when I told them that the manor was haunted. They started yelling at me again and used their statuses as my parents, aunts, and uncles to try and coerce me into action. They also kept telling me that I had to be a good son. I did not know all that talk about being a good son, but I did laugh. I hung up. Some of the gloomy feelings that had been sitting in my chest faded away and gave me relief. After they left, I went to the manor and found that all the malice

I just found the situation hilarious. They doted on me? Those relatives were the ones who took everything good from me since I was a kid. My mother would even help them financially, and she did it with all her might. Unconditionally too, at that. Because of her love, we had no money left. After that, my father then came to me and cried while telling me that he had no money to send me to school. What was I supposed to do?I had to earn money on my own, obviously. He had no money to buy clothes for me, and he could do nothing about it. I had to wear hand-me-downs while I worked hard to buy my own clothes. When I went to school, I got a student loan, and I earned money for my own living expenses. I never asked them for a single cent. Sometimes, I even had to send them money to keep them alive. While I was working from day to night, I ran into my mentor. He took pity on me, so he taught me all my skills. As I listened to them yell at me, I smirked. “Yeah, I’m ungrateful, a

“Alicia, you’re so lucky to have such a good boy, unlike my son. Forget helping out, he’s sucking our blood dry!”My mother was pleased after hearing this. She lay on the couch like she owned the place and started ordering me around. “You heard everyone, didn’t you? Order the food now.”I shook my head and scoffed. “If you want food, order it yourself. I won’t ever pay for you!”My mother’s face soured. “I’m telling you to do something, and you’re talking back?”Ronald said, “How could you be so immature, Apollo? I can’t believe you’d refuse to listen to your mother.”Nina chimed in, “That’s right, Apollo. You need to be more mature. Your mother has already told you to order food for us. Do it now. We’re hungry.”As they continued telling me to be more mature, some of them even started drooling. Even my father was giving me hints. “Apollo, it’s just a bit of money. Don’t make your mother unhappy.”I laughed bitterly. “Dad, they’re already bullying me to this point, and you still

I watched silently. Ronald was grinning broadly. “I can’t believe you’d lie to us and call this a haunted manor, Apollo. We stayed here for the night, and nothing happened. It felt great. You were just lying.”However, I could see black lines in his irises. This was a sign that he was already haunted. Jessica did not know any better and was ecstatic. “He was just lying and didn’t want us to stay here. Apollo, you’re mean. You had such high-class gaming consoles here, and you didn’t tell me? You just wanted all the fun for yourself!”In the background, Jessica was playing a VR game. That VR headset belonged to my client’s daughter. I heard that she had bought the most cutting-edge equipment, and they were really expensive. When I first moved into the manor, I only used the items I had bought with my own money. I never used anything inside. However, once those relatives went there, they acted exactly like they did when they were in my house and showed no restraint. Some wen

  • My Uncle Lost His Mind   Chapter 5

The moment Ronald finished speaking, they started looting my house, especially my house. They grabbed my shoes and all my accessories. My house descended into chaos. My parents only stood by silently. They did not even stop them. When Jessica started snapping at them to leave, Ronald finally stopped pillaging and haughtily looked at me. “We’ve got the money. You can take us to the manor now.”Did I give it to him? He stole it from me! “I told you many times before that I’m not letting you go in.” I continued saying no and asked them for payment. “I recorded all your actions just now. Put down everything in your hands and pay me back for the things you destroyed, or I’m calling the police.”Their expressions changed. Quite a number of them were terrified and wanted to put the things down, but Ronald turned to my mother and questioned her coldly, “How could someone threaten to send his aunts and uncles to the police? Aren’t you going to do anything about this?”I did not cav
