Chapter 4: Bread winner

The staff member he saw was none other than Jane. The girl who was then in a boyish dress had become sassy at that time, but her habitual actions were still the same.

Here comes the first move of the young man, as he approaches the staff member Jane, he just stays calm.

"Good morning Sir, do you want to check in? We have a lot of vacant rooms. You will just have to choose whether you will take exclusive or not," Jane said.

"Can I check you in, Miss? Hehe," he asked Jane, who didn't get what the man's words meant at that time.

"Sir?" the girl asked again.

"Ah... I mean... I'm not going to check in. Actually, I'm here to talk to you."

"Jester, I'm on duty. Maybe, next time," she refused.

"After graduation, I'm leaving. I'm going to the States. We'll have very little time together."

"Eh, what now? We're not that close anyway."

"I don't care. I just want to talk to you. All right, I'll just go outside. I'll wait for you there. We will talk when you're out."

The girl just nodded at what the man said to her and she handled her customers again.

After some time, Jane's duty was off. She thought that, instead of riding a bus, she preferred to walk slowly down the street to save money. While walking, she noticed the car behind her following her steps. As she stopped, it also stopped. Until then, she knocked on the car's window.

"Tok, tok, tok..." noise of knocking.

The car's window opened and the man's face showed upon it.

"Hey lady, what's going on?" he asked.

When the man took his eyeshade, Jane was surprised to see that it was Jester she had forgotten to talk to for a long time.

"Ah... Jester, I'm sorry. I didn't recognize you yet."

"It's okay. Just get in the car and I will drive you home."

"You told me that you wanted me to talk to you after my duty. So—"

"Just get in. Later, we will talk."

"Alright," she agreed.

Jane got into the car with the man. She felt strange while taking a glance at the man.

It's been two minutes of companionship, but still, both of them ride solemnly. Jane didn't want to talk at first because she was shy in the first place. It was Jester who wanted to clear something up. Until the young woman didn't feel at ease, she told him about what she wanted to ask.

"Jes..."

"Stop talking, I'm still driving. Wait right there, we will talk after we reach your house."

"Okay, but—"

"I know, Henry told me already about your address."

"Fine."

She sighed and rolled her eyes, but unfortunately, Jester saw it.

"What's that for?" he asked.

"What?"

"Your eyes were rolling a while ago. It's for me, right?"

"No," she insisted.

"Okay."

Even though the man observed Jane as a little bit naughty, he just smiled at her and went on his drive.

A moment later, they finally arrived at Jane's home. She was confused about the guy's plan to talk to her. She just went with the flow until it happened. When she was standing near the entrance door, she was expecting Jester to say goodbye to her, and she thought of the idea that maybe the man didn't want to talk to her. Until then, the man started to say his sentences.

"Do you not want to go into your house?"

"Ahm, well I will but... How about you? It's not good to leave you here."

He smiled and said, "Who told you that you would just leave me here?"

"What do you mean?" she asked.

She covered her face with her hair, pretended not to be shy about him, but the man just smiled at her and took a step towards the door.

"Let's both go in so that we can talk properly with your parents."

The lady was startled and said, "What's wrong with you? I'm—"

Jane didn't finish talking because the man suddenly knocked on the door.

"Jester, what—" Jane asked.

"Stop talking Jane, the door is already open. Let's go."

It was her first time bringing a man into her family. So, she didn't know what to do, but just stayed silent upon entering their house.

"Good evening Auntie. I am Jester Helson. Your daughter's friend."

Janes' mother was surprised to see the son of her husband's boss. Yes, her father was an employee of Helson's company, owned by Jester's parents. It was a coincidence that they met each other.

"Ah... Jester?" Jane's mother said.

"Yes, do you know me?"

The mother smiled at him and held his hands and said, "How could I not recognize you? You're the sole son of Helson's company, and my husband was one of the employees who gave loyalty to it."

"Ah okay, well..."

"You may sit down first."

He sat on the sofa and continued saying,

"We'll Auntie, I'm here because I want to talk to you about Jane."

The lady was shocked at that moment. So many opinions are on her mind.

"Well mom—" Jane said while the guy stopped her, unable to interfere with his purpose.

"Actually, Jane didn't know about this. I'm the only one who is planning to support her studies. Auntie, I know everything about your family. It is not about Jane, it's about my dad's employee."

"Really? So, you mean it's just all about your father's order?" Jane's mother asked.

"Yes. That's what I want to tell you, Jane."

At that time, Jane just thought of him that he stalked her and followed her, but maybe something interesting about her inner feelings, but the fact that she heard from Jester was the main reason. She finally breathed loosely.

The conversation was over. The man had already gone home while Jane was in imagination mode.

"Hehe, why is he so cute? Have I already admired him? Hehe..." she said to herself while hugging her favorite teddy bear.

While lying on her bed, she didn't forget about what had happened a while ago. It's inculcated in her mind and the beauty of the man remains in her eyes.

Then, she went to sleep afterwards.

"Good morning, my dear daughter. It's time to wake up for school."

It was a voice from her mother that made her wake up and fix her bed. She hurriedly stood up and took a bath. Then, she ate breakfast.

When she was ready to go, someone called on the line. Jane's mother took it from the table and gave it to Jane, but when she listened to the voice talking on the line, it seemed that it was familiar to her. Then she started the conversation.

"Yes, hello? What's the matter?"

"Jane, It's—"

Then she dropped the phone on the floor while tears fell from her eyes.
