Fortunately, Nate fell asleep a few minutes after they entered the hotel room. The long journey had drained him, leaving him sprawled across the bed with his mouth slightly open. Nita was relieved — not just because he needed the rest, but because his endless questions about a “daddy” she wished he’d forget had stopped for now.

She glanced at him with softened eyes. Her son, her joy, her constant reminder of the past she tried so hard to bury.

Still, she needed a moment of quiet. And she definitely needed to warn Mia about filling Nate’s head with hopes that had no business existing.

After ordering a meal for him, she scribbled a quick note on the bedside notepad:

“Mummy stepped out. Eat when the food comes. I’ll be back soon. Don’t open the door for anyone.”

Nate was smart, far smarter than most five-year-olds. He had learned early how to care for himself in small ways, because his mother’s work often demanded late nights and long hours.

Pulling on her jacket, Nita slipped out of the hotel room.

Her chest tightened the moment she stepped outside. Being in this state — his state — always unsettled her. Memories lay heavy in the air, refusing to let her breathe freely. Every street corner whispered his name, every thought threatened to drag her back to the one man she had sworn to erase.

She shook it off. Focus, Nita. You came here for work.

Nicro Industries.

The towering glass building loomed above her, sleek and polished, its logo shimmering in the sunlight. It was one of the largest conglomerates in the state, with branches spanning power, oil and gas, and communications. Yet, despite its dominance, it was bleeding.

Their newest products — highly classified, supposedly airtight — were being leaked before official launch. Competitors, mostly young start-ups, kept releasing versions of the same product months in advance. It wasn’t a single thief. No — it was a pattern, an invisible hand orchestrating a chain of betrayals.

Her job was simple: find the leak.

Her lips curved into a faint smile. Cyborg is back in town.

The lobby was bustling, yet familiar. The polished floors and crisp business suits reminded her of the Grimm Group headquarters. The atmosphere of power. The arrogance of employees who barely glanced at her.

She approached the front desk. “Good morning. I’m the new recruit for the I.T. department. Can you direct me there, please?”

The receptionist, a young woman with sharp eyeliner, looked her over with thinly veiled curiosity. For a moment, she said nothing, then leaned forward.

“New recruit, you said? For I.T.?”

“Yes,” Nita replied evenly.

The receptionist tilted her head, lips curling into something between a smile and pity. “A word of advice. If you can’t handle the heat here, don’t force yourself. This company’s problems are beyond what an average programmer can solve. The only person who might is Cyborg.”

Nita’s lips twitched. Oh, if only she knew.

“Thanks,” Nita said politely. “I’ll keep that in mind.”

The I.T. department was buzzing with low conversations. She hadn’t even stepped fully inside before she caught snippets of gossip.

“I heard the boss hired a novice programmer to fix this mess,” one man muttered.

“Yeah,” another chimed in. “Some Nita… can’t even recall her last name. But rumor says she doesn’t have a degree. Imagine that — hiring someone so ordinary.”

A woman laughed, voice dripping with disdain. “Ordinary? Please. She probably slept her way in.”

Nita pushed the door open just then. Silence crashed down. Heads snapped back to screens. Keyboards clicked in awkward haste.

She smiled faintly, scanning the room. Not one of them dared meet her eyes. Cowards.

A man finally stepped forward, lips curved in a smirk. “So, you’re the new recruit?”

“Obviously,” she said coolly. “Unless there’s another one I missed on the way in.”

The smirk widened. His gaze slid over her slowly, insolently. “Now I get how you got the job.”

Nita kept her expression blank. No comment.

“I’m Sam Moore,” he said finally, extending his hand with mock politeness. “Head of the I.T. department. If you’ve got questions, you come to me.”

She shook his hand briefly. “Nita Green. Where should I sit?”

He waved toward a cluster of empty desks. “Anywhere you like. Plenty of space for… newcomers.”

Without another word, she walked to a seat and powered on her computer. If they wanted to underestimate her, let them. She had no interest in convincing anyone of her worth. Her work would speak for itself.

“Rumor says Cyborg is in the state,” a woman whispered nearby.

Nita’s fingers froze briefly on the keyboard. Her return was supposed to be confidential. How did word leak out?

“If only the boss had hired Cyborg instead of some unknown programmer…” the woman continued, glancing deliberately at Nita before turning back to her group.

Nita ignored them, resuming her typing. Her hands moved with mechanical precision, codes flowing across the screen like water. This was her battlefield, her sanctuary.

Still, she could feel eyes on her. Sam.

She looked up slowly to meet his gaze.

“You’re working hard,” he said, his voice low, almost amused.

“Of course,” Nita replied. “It’s my job.”

He leaned closer, a sly smile tugging at his lips. “You don’t have to suffer, you know. I can make things easier for you… if you want to keep this job.”

Before she could respond, his hand slid toward her lap, bold and deliberate.

“You’re beautiful,” he whispered. “I like you.”

Nita’s POV The days that followed were busy.Theo insisted Nita shouldn't go to the company until after the introduction party. He wanted her to feel more comfortable instead of cramping in the technical room with the rest of the staff. So, she had been working from home. Still, she hadn't been able to track whoever was behind the theft. The person had been idle. There was no new theft, or maybe because the company hadn't produced a new product. Nita couldn't tell the reason. Apart from messages on checking on her and Nate, Jeremy had been quiet. Unexpectedly silent. And Mia had been investigating all about the stamp while helping Eliana out with the party preparation. But what was odd most was the absence from Nick. It brought a strange feeling to her. A feeling she couldn't quite point at. And no, it wasn't love. She felt strange, especially when Nate asked if Nick had forgotten about them. She could hear the sadness in his voice whenever he spoke on Nick. It was one of th

  • Nita's Revenge   Forty Nine

Nita's POV James stood up from his seat, his hand neatly placed into his pocket. His lips curled in a smirk as he stretched his hand out to Nita. “Nita Green. It's a pleasure seeing you again after all these years.” His eyebrow twitched slightly as his gaze swept over her. “You've changed.”Nita frowned. In what what? But she didn't voiced that out, she smiled. “For the better.”His smile didn't reach his eyes. Something about it told Nita he wasn't being entirely sincere. The last time she had met James, she hadn't gotten into a contract marriage with Nick. “It's nice to see you, James.”“Do you know this man, Nita?” Mia narrowed his eyes at him.Nita chuckled, nodding. “James and I go way back.”She could see from the way Mia had opened her mouth that she wanted to ask how far back, but a look at Eliana made her keep quiet. Nita nodded at her. Then she turned towards James. “That doesn't mean you need to pay our bill. I would like to repay you back.”Seeing that she was no longe

Nita's POV “Mummy!” Nate screamed through the house and made us drop the picture and parcel. “Keep it. We'll deal with this later.” Mia said, pushing the parcel to me. Then, she turned towards the door and left the room.“Nate darling. Are you ready to see what Aunty Mia got you?” She heard Mia’s voice. “Yes. Yes. Let's see it.”The Tom's had been kind enough to prepare a separate room for Mia. It was as if they had been expecting her because the room was available even before requesting for it. For a while, she started at the stamp Mia had pointed at. To her, it was nothing special, but if Mia said there was something to it. She would surely work on it. As she stepped out of the room, her phone beeped. Jeremy. ‘I found out about this hacker called Generation Hackers. You might want to research about them.’She stared at the message for a while. Generation Hackers. Never heard of them, and she always made sure to stay on the list with new or old hackers. Even if she couldn't

  • Nita's Revenge   Forty Seven

Nita's POV.‘I'm arriving at the airport soon.’ Mia’s message popped up on her photo like a bomb. Nita closed her laptop, her heart skipping a beat. When Mia told her she was coming back to the state, Nita had no idea she was coming back this soon. She thought she would still have enough time to do more investigations before she came back. Thankfully, no new threats had surfaced since she moved into the Toms' mansion. She changed into a more appropriate dress - a long floral dress and flat heels. It wasn't too extravagant but classy enough to wear out. She picked her bag and dropped her phone in it after sending a reply to Mia. ‘Coming over to pick you up.’She took the stairs, two at a step and the laughter echoing through the house brought a smile to her lips. Carl and Nate were seated in the living room, playing games while pushing each other's shoulders. The moment Nate eyes landed on her, he paused his game. And Carl also looked at her. “Where are you going, mummy?”Thoug

  • Nita's Revenge   Forty Six

Jeremy’s POVLosing Nita felt like living in hell.Winning back her trust was the only way out. At first, he had thought getting to her would be easier here. She would no longer be in the midst of colleagues that overwhelmed her, and she had fewer projects to deal with. He thought he'd finally prove himself to her., but he couldn't be more wrong.Just blurting the wrong words to Nate had completely pushed him out of her grace, and their relationship was more strained than it had been in Adonis. That's why he couldn't afford to mess this up.He stared at the I.P she had forwarded to him. It was really that of the hotel. No matter how many times he cross-checked it, it only ended up showing the hotel. Jeremy cursed, his finger running across the keyboard, while his eyes moved across the people seated at the bar. Staying cooped up in his hotel room had literally made him think he was going insane. For hours, he checked the IP over and over, hoping the result would change. It never

  • Nita's Revenge   Forty Five

Nita's POV.After the meal, Nita retired to her room. She only lay on the bed with no thoughts of working at all. She felt free, but the thoughts in her head were bothering her. Was it a wise decision to allow Theo to introduce her to society? Nicro Industries might not be what it used to be, but she bet it could still pull in crowds if they wanted to. Footsteps rushing up the stairs made her sit up. After breakfast, Nate hadn't bothered coming up with her. He was glued to Carl as if they had known each other before. The door opened and Nate popped his head in. He made no effort to come in as he announced. “Mummy, your friend is here to visit?”Nita's heart skipped. If she remembered clearly, the only person she remembered Nate calling her friend was Nate. What was he doing here?More importantly, how did he know where to find them? Was he stalking them? She jumped to her feet, adjusted her shirt and checked if her clothes were suitable enough. She hadn't bothered dressing up

Nick's POV Sleeping was a dilemma. All Nick could think of was the look on Nita’s face. The last time he had seen her was five years ago, when he had shattered her heart while she was pregnant. Back then, he had thought death would be an escape, but even death refused him. He sat up, working again

  • Nita's Revenge   Ten

Nick’s POVAfter sending the email, Nick remained seated in front of his laptop. For some reason, he had hidden his email address. Nita’s P.O.V “Home has never been too far, darling. The house awaits its owner.”Her hand hovered over the keyboard as a slow smirk took over her lips.
