LOGINAurea’s POV
Before I could even process the danger or stand back up, a large, warm hand reached down and grabbed me.
Before I could even find my voice to scream, his other hand came around from the front. His long, thick fingers locked tightly around my waist, his grip bruising as he pulled me backward, forcing me up onto my knees until my spine was crushed mercilessly against his solid chest. I was entirely trapped in his embrace.
"Let go..." I choked out, the words barely a rasping, pathetic whisper in the silent kitchen.
He didn't listen. Instead, he buried his face deeply into the crook of my neck, inhaling my scent with a heavy, ragged intake of air. A wave of complete, dizzying confusion crashed over me. The scent radiating off him was entirely darker, laced with a faint hint of fresh rain and premium tobacco.
"Shh, little bird," a voice murmured against my neck.
My breath completely stopped. It was a deep, gravelly baritone that sent a shiver down my spine.
"You shouldn't be wandering around the house like this," he whispered, his grip on my waist tightening until it was downright bruising. His rough, calloused fingers slid slightly upward, tracing the delicate satin bow at the center of my waistband. "Especially not in these cute little thing. Do you have any idea what you look like in the dark, Princess?"
Tears of pure frustration and fear stung the backs of my eyes. I weakly reached back, my hands frantically pushing against his iron forearms. "Please... let me go..."
Then, just as suddenly as he had trapped me, the overwhelming pressure completely vanished. The heavy hands released me, retreating back into the darkness.
The sudden rush of cool kitchen air hit my damp skin, violently breaking the spell of my paralysis. I spun around on my knees, my eyes wide as I desperately reached out to grab him or see his face.
But I found absolutely nothing.
The space behind me was completely empty. The dark kitchen swallowed any trace of his existence, leaving only the deafening silence. I scrambled to my feet, turned on my heel, and ran.
I sprinted out of the kitchen and tore down the dark, labyrinthine corridors at full speed, the soles of my bare feet slapping frantically against the freezing floors. I didn't stop, until I lunged into my small bedroom, slamming the heavy wooden door shut behind me. I turned the deadbolt instantly, the sharp click of the lock echoing like a gunshot in the small space. Pressing my back flat against the solid wood, I slid down to the floor, buried my face in my knees, and eventually cried myself but sleep couldn’t find its way to me.
morning came too fast, the bright sunlight filtering through my small window did absolutely nothing to ease the sickening knots in my stomach.
I stayed in my room, sitting cross-legged on my mattress, clutching my mother's silver necklace tightly against my chest. Today was the staff’s official off-day, but I couldn't relax. Every time I closed my eyes, the memory of that gravelly voice and the heavy hand on my waist made me feel completely sick to my soul.
Who was that? The question tore through my mind. Leo had said the brothers were in Milan. There were dozens of security guards, drivers, and groundskeepers in this fortress. Any one of those powerful, faceless men could have stalked me into the dark.
A sharp, frantic knocking on my bedroom door made me jump straight out of my skin.
"Aurea! Open up, it's me!" a voice hissed from the other side.
I rushed over, unlocking the door to find Rita standing in the corridor. Her face was completely pale, her eyes wide with a frantic, breathless energy that instantly made my stomach drop.
"The Masters are back," Rita gasped out, her hands fluttering nervously as she stepped slightly into my room. "They just returned unexpectedly, and the entire house is in a total frenzy."
My heart slammed against my ribs.. ,”You mean... the Rossi brothers? But today is our off-day..."
"Yes! And their schedule completely changed," Rita practically whispered, clutching my forearm. "The upper staff is being called in for immediate preparation. Mrs Jade asked me to call you.”
"I need to quickly change into my formal uniform," I said, my voice shaking as I gently pushed her toward the door. "You go ahead, Rita! I need to get ready, I'll catch up with you in the kitchen in just a few minutes."
"Just be careful, Aurea," she warned before turning on her heel and hurrying down the hall.
The moment she left, I scrambled to change, frantically smoothing down the stiff fabric of my apron. My mind was racing at a million miles an hour, completely consumed by Rita's terrifying warnings. I couldn't be caught hiding in my room if the staff was being summoned. I rushed out of my bedroom, slammed the door, and flew down the long corridor.
Distracted, terrified, and entirely consumed by my own internal panic, I rounded a sharp corner at full speed—and collided violently with what felt like a solid, unyielding brick wall.
The impact sent a jarring shockwave through my frame. I stumbled back several steps, completely dazed and clutching my forehead as a dull throb began to form. That's impossible, I thought frantically, my mind struggling to compute what had just happened. There isn't a structural pillar in the dead center of this hallway.
Slowly, with trembling breaths, I tilted my head upward.
My breath caught completely in my throat, Velarius Rossi was standing directly in front of me, towering over my small frame. A cold, predatory amusement shone brightly within his piercing grey eyes, and a dark, wicked smirk played on his perfect lips.
"Ti sei persa, principessa?" (Are you lost, princess?) he growled.
Aurea’s POV “Don’t you think we need to punish you, hmm, princess?" Velarius murmured, his large, heavy hand resting on my waist and possessively kneading the flesh there. Before I could answer, Vincenzo's hand slid beneath my chin and forced my gaze upward."Tell us the truth," he said softly."I-I fell dow—""Think before you speak," Vincenzo cut in."I-it's sister Lyra," I said softly,I doubted they even heard me. There was no response from them. They looked far too calm for my liking. It felt like the calm before the storm."Brother, don’t you think our princess is hilarious for thinking she can actually escape from us?" Velarius asked, a wicked, knowing smirk plastered across his lips. The words hit me like a physical blow. Absolute horror flooded my chest. They know? That can’t be true.A soft, dangerous chuckle echoed from right behind me. Velarius' strong arms wrapped securely around my waist, lifting me effortlessly off Vincenzo's lap only to deposit me directly onto his."
Aurea’s POV It was almost five, and I had already packed my things, waiting patiently for my ride. I couldn't believe I would finally be away from them, I thought with a smile. My eyes darted to my phone. 4:02 PM. A few more minutes to go.I paced the length of my bedroom, sucking my lower lip. Five steps to the window. Turn. Five steps back to the bed. My hands twisted nervously in the fabric of my skirt, my breath catching in my throat with every swing of the pendulum. Knock. Knock.I froze mid-stride, one foot hovering slightly off the ground. The sound wasn't loud, but in the suffocating silence of my room, it hit me like a physical blow. "Aurea?" I quickly went to the door. It was one of the younger maids.I swallowed hard, forcing my voice to sound steadier than I felt. "Yes? What is it?""The masters are calling for you in their study room, they requested your presence immediately."I suddenly froze in place, the masters.Panic flared through my veins. My hands began to trem
Aurea’s POV “Rea! Rea! I just heard the ne—“Rita burst into the room looking worried as ever. “What happened?” She reached out gently to face. "Honestly, this isn't good. The Rossi brothers are the most feared men in this country. They won't hesitate for a second to ruin anyone who crosses them."A huge, suffocating knot formed in my throat. “But everything is gonna be okay, you just have to stay away from their way.”I was completely lost in my own thoughts as Rita kept rambling on, mentioning how jealous the other maids were. "But don't worry, girl," she added with a giggle. "Jade told me to tell you tomorrow, you'll be among the maids serving the Masters their breakfast so you can learn the routine. And honestly? They are so handsome you would literally die to give your life to them..."Rita kept on for about half a minute before finally leaving my room. I sighed in relief while smiling a bit and placed my head on my bed. It didn’t take a second when the door clicked open. Lyra,
Valerius POV "The board meeting will begin in a few minutes, sirs," our personal assistant murmured, stepping quietly out of Vincenzo's and my executive office. She had been our PA for the last three years, which was a record for us. I constantly cycled through assistants because almost every woman we hired inevitably tried to sleep with us or foolishly thought she could become a Rossi wife. It was pathetic. I only had space in my mind for one person—our innocent princess.Vincenzo and I left the office and strode down the corporate hallway toward the boardroom. The moment I threw the double doors open, I found the executives already seated and waiting anxiously. We thoroughly despised tardiness."Let's begin," Vincenzo commanded, his voice clipping through the room as everyone scrambled to adjust their notes.Ten minutes into the presentation, my eyes locked onto a blatant error on the projector screen. Then I slammed my palm on the table."Who the fuck did this calculation?"The en
Velarius POV "Let me go…” I heard her whisper in a tiny, sweet voice. I groaned, burying my face in the crook of her neck as I inhaled her sweet scent.“Shh, little bird," I murmured against her neck. "You shouldn't be wandering around the house like this," I whispered, tightening my grip on her waist. My fingers brushed against the delicate satin bow at the center of her waistband. How cute, I thought. "Especially not in these cute little things. Do you have any idea what you look like in the dark, Princess?" I asked, placing a small kiss on her neck. Her hands began frantically pushing against my arms. "Please... let me go..." she said in a tearful tone. This time I let her go and walked out of the door, and stood in the dark just watching her as she looked around before, running out of the kitchen. The scene brought a small chuckle to my lips as I turned toward the stairs. “I really need to deal with this problem,” I muttered, staring down with frustration. After a few minutes, I
(The Rossi Brothers)"Four... Three... Two... One."Click.I squeezed the trigger. A jagged scream tore from the man tied to the chair, blood dripping heavily down his shredded face.A dark, dangerous laugh boomed through the room. "Fratello, pensava davvero che gli avremmo concesso una morte così facile?" (Brother, did he really think we would give him such an easy death?)"P-please... S-sir..." the man sobbed, trembling. "I will never do it again. Please, just give me a chance sir."I smirked. “Brother, have we ever given anyone a chance before?”Vincenzo didn't answer. He rarely spoke, preferring actions over words. Walking over to the metal table, he selected a small knife from their collection of tools. Without skipping a beat, he drove the blade into the crying man’s mouth, slicing the right side of his cheek open. The man shrieked, the sound echoing off the concrete walls. Vincenzo wasn't done yet. He moved with the slow, calculated precision of a predator. Within the blink of
