VINICIO POV

I knew striking a deal with this delicate young girl was a bad idea but she was fiery, as expected, as her father warned me two years back, in a party at her house, I guess she doesn’t recognize me. However, I was out of time and options; I needed to be able to access my inheritance and the family business but a wife was needed.

Teresa wouldn’t let me rest, I wondered why she hand-picked Laurabeth, when she hated the family.

That’s why she ensured Mr Voss was bankrupted before drawing my attention to him, and Laura, she's nothing but a child because who in the right mind seduces a man just to make sure the marriage is consummated on the wedding night, as seen in movies.

" I know what this is. You don’t need to deprive me of it." She snaps.

I was so scared of hurting her, but I did, her body ached by the last round and I needed to carry her to the bathroom myself, since she couldn’t walk. I never meant to take her, and even if I did, it wouldn’t be like that. For a while she made me see a woman, instead of a girl, and I gave in.

As she laid to sleep by morning, I cleaned myself up, dressed in my work suit. I knew I couldn’t hold myself if she displayed that stunt again, so I had to leave. I avoided her for weeks, because I needed to be in control.

My working space was serene, the spotless glass ware always reminded me of the messy bed I had left behind that night, practically bathed in cum, and Laurabeth too.

I walked into my office, and as I sat, Alex followed immediately, given that he wasn’t present at the wedding, he took a seat opposite me.

"Is everything on track? You look… stressed… and-"

"Where is Teresa?” I interrupted

“Your sister said she’d be paying you a visit at home, where you should be…”

"Her family's a mess...and I still see a lot of mess in the future if we are not careful." I warned, flipping through our wedding contract document. There was no gain in marrying her, but Teresa offered her share of the company just to persuade me into this, with the lie about a rumour that I was gay. Which I later found out was false.

Alex huffed. "I too believe she's a risk…"

"I don't care what you think." I spatted. I tossed the document to him, even though he was my best friend, he didn’t know how I was feeling, how I had been spending the night in my office or a hotel, how I missed the comfort of my house.

"Then you should care about the charity event tonight and how Laura needs to attend, yes, I know… you haven’t been home since your wedding… actually your driver told me, but come on Vinicio.” He exhaled angrily. His words caught me by surprise, but it didn’t matter.

“Laurabeth would be there, if you agree to tell my driver that any personal information of mine that he tells you again would get him fired.” I noticed him swallowing hard, because he knew I actually meant both of them would be laid off.

***

By the time I pulled into the driveway that evening, the estate felt like a graveyard. The silence was heavily unnatural. I stepped into the living room, my eyes impulsively scanning for a flash of her, but I only found the head maid, Mrs. Felicia, standing stiffly by the foyer.

"Welcome home, sir," she greeted, though her voice lacked its usual rhythm.

"Where is she?"

"In the bedroom, sir. She hasn't come out all day."

I gave a curt nod and trudged toward the stairs. As I approached our door, the faint, feeble sound of sobbing leaked through the wood and before I could even turn the handle, the distinct click of the lock echoed from the other side.

And her voice came thin but rash. “I have told you, I’m not hungry…”

"And why haven't you been eating?" I asked, my voice low, surprisingly. The news of her starving herself was new to me, but the thought of being cold was farther from my mind, and all I wanted was an answer.

“Vinicio…” As soon as she saw me, she scrambled out of the sheets and ran to embrace me like a frightened child. I could feel the panicky heat of her skin and the way her heart pounded against my chest. But this was enough, a little smile, spoken words. It meant she was fine.

“Get dressed,” I commanded, pulling back just for a final glance of her to make sure I was correct. “We have a party to attend in an hour. And please, Laurabeth... don't wear anything that’d…. draw attention.” I couldn’t handle another scene like the one at the cafeteria. She could be erratic, and I needed order tonight.

I moved to the mirror to undress, but I could feel her eyes on me, she stood still for a long while.

“Okay,” she finally muttered, drifting toward the bathroom while I waited. She looked pale, her movements sluggish, as though she were sick, I assumed she was still recovering from that night or maybe it was a ‘girl’s thing’; periods. Either way I had warned her.

When she returned, she was wearing a long black gown. It was more covered than I expected; I’d bought the clothes, but I didn’t think she’d actually wear them. She let her hair down, and as a man who appreciated the sharp lines of high fashion, I preferred it swept up, but I didn't have the energy to dictate her style tonight. I stopped asking questions when she sent the maids out with a sharp flick of her wrist. That was when I knew the silence in this house wasn't just quiet, something was wrong.

Vinicio POVThe hospital room closed in tighter with every beep of the monitors. I stood beside Laurabeth's bed like a sentinel refusing to move. Her hand felt small and fragile in mine as another contraction built. She cried out gripping me harder. Sweat dampened her brown hair and her face twisted in pain. I hated every second of this helplessness. My power, my money, my reputation meant nothing against the battle raging inside her body."Breathe pumpkin," I commanded softly. My voice stayed low and rough. "I am right here. Feel me. Let my strength flow into you. You are not doing this alone."The doctor returned with two specialists I had demanded flown in immediately. They checked readings, adjusted drips and spoke in hushed urgent tones. I pulled the lead doctor aside again, my grip on his arm like iron. "Tell me the truth. What are her chances?"He hesitated. "Mr. Rossini we are doing everything possible but the placenta is detaching further. If another major wave hits we may ha

Vinicio POVThe hospital room felt like a cage closing in around us. I stood by Laurabeth's bed, my hand gripping hers so tightly I feared I might break her fingers. The machines beeped in a steady mocking rhythm. Her face was pale with sweat beading on her forehead. Another contraction hit her and she cried out arching against the pain. I felt helpless for the first time in my life. All my money and all my power meant nothing against this."Stay with me pumpkin," I growled leaning close. My voice stayed rough and commanding. "You are strong. Our son is strong. Breathe through it. I am right here and I am not going anywhere."The doctor had injected more medication to stop the labor but the contractions kept coming. Laurabeth squeezed my hand, her nails digging into my skin. "It hurts Vinicio. It is too soon. He is not ready.""I know," I whispered, pressing my forehead to hers. "But you fight. You fight for him. For us. I will bring the best specialists in the world. Private jets are

Laurabeth POVThe hours after the breach dragged on in a haze of paranoia and icy dread. We moved through the safehouse like ghosts. Vinicio's security team swept every room and corridor but the atmosphere had turned rotten. Every shadow in the hallway felt like Teresa watching us. Every creak of the floorboards sounded like footsteps of another traitor. My mind looped endlessly around the missing paternity envelope. Who had taken it? Teresa herself hiding in the walls or one of the servants I once trusted to bring me breakfast?I paced the length of our reinforced bedroom. My hands trembled as they pressed against my stomach. Our baby kicked restlessly, clearly sensing the stress rolling off me in waves. Vinicio was in the study barking orders into the phone. His voice carried low and guttural as he demanded they tear the mansion apart until the thief was found. I wanted to believe him. I wanted to trust that he would recover the results and prove what I already knew in my soul. The

Vinicio POVThe security footage played on loop in the dim study. Teresa's face stared back at me from the grainy image. My own sister moved like a shadow through the garden the night of the breach. She had never left. The confirmation hit like a fresh knife to the gut. I stood frozen, my fists clenched so tight my knuckles turned white. Laurabeth pressed close to my side. Her warmth was the only thing keeping my rage from exploding completely."She is playing both sides," I said. My voice came out low and venomous. "Working with Marchetti to destroy the company and our bloodline from within. She never intended to run. She wanted to watch us fall from inside our own home."Laurabeth touched my arm. Her fingers trembled slightly but her voice stayed firm. "She grew up here, Vinicio. You trusted her with everything. And she used it all against you. Against us."I slammed my fist against the wall. The sound echoed sharply in the small room. "I gave her power. Keys to the kingdom. And she

Vinicio POVThe safehouse reeked of gunpowder and blood. I stood in the main room with my pistol still warm in my hand. Bodies of attackers lay where they had fallen. My remaining guards moved quickly securing the perimeter. Laurabeth stayed close behind me. Her hand gripped my arm tightly. The steel panic room had saved us but the real enemy was still inside these walls. The mole who had opened the gates."Bring every member of the staff here now," I ordered Alex. My voice cut like a blade through the tense air. "No one leaves. No one makes a call. We interrogate them one by one until the traitor breaks."Alex nodded. His face stayed grim. "Yes sir. We start with the inner circle."One after another they were brought in. The cook. The groundskeepers. Maids who had served us for years. Each sat in the same chair under the harsh light. I loomed over them. My injured side throbbed but rage kept me standing tall. Trust had shattered completely. Every familiar face now looked like a poten

Vinicio POVThe steel door of the panic room sealed with a heavy thud cutting us off from the chaos outside. My chest heaved as I reloaded my pistol. Blood from the fight still dripped down my arm but I barely felt it. Laurabeth pressed against me in the cramped space. Her breathing came fast and terrified. I wrapped one arm around her waist keeping her shielded with my body. My other hand stayed tight on the gun ready for anything."Did you hear him?" she whispered. Her voice trembled as she paced the small room. "He said someone on the staff helped them. Someone inside our house betrayed us, Vinicio.""I heard every word, Laurabeth," I replied. My voice stayed low and dangerous. I leaned against the cold steel door listening to the muffled sounds of fighting beyond it. "In this world loyalty has a price. Someone we fed and trusted opened the gates for those killers.""How could they do this?" she asked. Fury mixed with fear in her tone. "They have been with us for months. They know
