THEODORE

I shoved my way out of the Cupid Den, the cold night air hitting my face like a slap. I ripped the tech mask off my neck, tearing a tiny layer of skin with it, but I didn't care.

The sting was nothing compared to the absolute humiliation burning in my chest.

I was a useless Alpha, I couldn't even get my fucking cock to stand.

By the time the royal transport dropped me off at the palace, I was practically radiating anger. I stormed through the grand corridors, wanting nothing more than to lock myself in my room and sleep for a week.

"Your Highness!"

A young servant scurried up to me, bowing so low his forehead almost touched his knees.

"What?" I snarled, not even slowing down.

"General Evander has been looking for you, sir. He requested to see you the moment you returned."

My hands clenched into fists inside my jacket pockets. "Tell the General to go fuck himself," I snapped.

The servant gasped, his face turning pale as he stumbled backward. I ignored him and kept walking, taking the stairs two at a time.

Of all the people in this goddamn palace, Evander was the absolute last person I wanted to see. Just hearing his name made my stomach do a weird, traitorous flip.

"Theodore."

I froze at the top of the stairs.

Evander was standing there, leaning against the marble pillar near the entrance to my wing. He had his military dress uniform on, looking perfectly put together, though he still looked a little pale around the edges from the venom.

He straightened up when he saw me, his sharp eyes locking onto mine.

I scowled, my posture instantly stiffening. "What do you want, General? Come to brag about how my father loves you more than his own son? Save it. I'm not in the mood."

Evander didn't take the bait. He stepped closer, his expression serious. "I wanted to thank you."

I let out a harsh, ugly laugh. "Thank me? For what? Letting you drag me into a rat trap?"

"For staying, though we both know you dragged us into the rat trap." Evander said, though he murmured the last part which made me snarl.

His voice was quiet but steady. "The doctor told me what happened. You could have left when the communications went back up, but you stayed by my side. You saved my life, Theodore."

My heart hammered against my ribs, a sudden wave of heat rushing straight to my face. He didn't know. He actually had no fucking clue. He thought I'd just sat there holding his hand or some shit.

"Save your thanks," I sneered, taking a step toward him to look him dead in the eye, trying to ignore the way my nose was practically begging to catch a hint of his scent. "And quite frankly, it’s a good thing your useless brain can't remember what actually happened in that cave. Otherwise, you'd realize just how pathetic you looked."

Evander's brow furrowed, his eyes narrowing slightly. "What is that supposed to mean?"

"It means you're a brute," I spat, my voice dripping with venom. "A big, stupid, glorified soldier who almost died because he couldn't handle a little golden poison. You're a chicken, Evander. You were whining like a beaten dog."

A muscle jumped in Evander's jaw. The gratitude in his eyes vanished, replaced by the familiar spark of irritation. Good. I wanted him to be angry. I wanted him far away from me.

"I am trying to be civil, Your Highness," Evander said, his voice dropping an octave.

"Well, don't bother," I snapped, stepping right into his personal space, my finger jabbed into his chest. "I don't need your civility, and I sure as hell don't want you near me. Get out of my face, General.

“If I see you lingering around my wing again, I will make your life an absolute living hell. I might not be my father's favorite, but I am still the Crown Prince, and I can still make sure your military career ends up in the gutter."

Evander stared down at my hand on his chest, then slowly looked back up at me.

His eyes were dark, searching my face with a strange intensity that made my breath catch.

"Am I understood?" I demanded, my voice shaking slightly despite my best efforts.

"Perfectly, Your Highness," Evander murmured.

I ripped my hand back, shoved past his shoulder, and marched down the hallway to my room, slamming the door shut behind me.

I rested my head against the wood, my heart beating frankly as a strange sensation began to climb up my chest.

The fuck was wrong with me? Why was I feeling guilty for the way I talked to him?

I closed my eyes, taking deep, steadying breaths until the phantom scent of the General stopped screaming in my mind.

When I finally calmed down, I opened my eyes.

"The fuck!" I shrieked, jumping back so hard my spine cracked against the wood of the door.

Lying flat on my bed, propped up on his elbows with his chin resting in his hands, was Oliver.

He was a pretty, petite Omega with a head of messy curls and pretty blue eyes, and he was currently looking at me like I was a highly entertaining holovid.

"You really need to lock your balcony doors, Theo," Oliver said, kicking his feet back and forth. "It is way too easy to climb up here."

I pressed a hand to my chest, my glaring gaze trying to melt him on the spot. "What the fuck are you doing in my room, Ollie? I could have had the guards execute you!"

"Please. The guards know me," he scoffed, rolling over onto his back and staring at the ceiling. "Besides, I couldn't wait. You've been back for days and you've been acting like a hermit. Tell me everything. How was the delegation? Did you actually have to talk to the rats?"

I sat on the cold floor, chest heavy as my head finally cleared. My throat burned from his grip. The taste of his come made me gag, so I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand and spat on the floor. My whole body ached and trembled, my legs sticky with sweat and cum.Evander stood over me, zipping his pants. His face was blank, like he hadn't just forced himself on me."Get out," I rasped out, my throat raw.Evander glared at me. "Don't pretend you didn't want it," he said, his voice flat. "You were using a bottle on yourself. You were grinding on me."Anger hit me hard. I yanked a sheet off the bed to cover my chest and the bleeding bite on my neck, then got up on my knees to glare at him."I told you to get away from me!" I yelled, my voice cracking. "You broke into my room. You used your Voice on me. You bit my neck like an animal!""I did what I had to do to calm your scent down," he snapped back, nostrils flaring. "Your pheromones were leaking everywhere. You're unstable, Theo.

EVANDERTheo’s eyelids lifted. His dark eyes were glazed with pleasure, but after a moment, horror took over. Horror and wariness, as if he were bracing for a blow.My gaze traveled down to my own hand wrapped around Theo’s throat, then to the raw, bloody bite mark on his neck. The mark I’d left.I couldn't look away. Blood trickled from the small wound, and something like satisfaction twisted my insides, mingling with a deep unease.Modern Alphas didn’t bite each other’s throats. They certainly didn’t draw blood. It was taboo for a reason.“Let go.”The voice seemed to come from far away.I couldn’t tear my gaze from the bite mark or my hand around his throat. The sight was enthralling. I squeezed.“Evander,” said a shaky voice. “Get off me.”I didn’t move.“Evander!”I flinched, suddenly aware of my surroundings.I was lying on top of Theo. His bare legs were splayed to accommodate my thigh between them. My thigh was wet with his come. Theo was still half-hard, and I was harder.“Le

His grip on my scruff was paralyzing my muscles as he dragged me down the hallway.Pain shot down my spine, but the humiliation of being hauled like a wounded animal broke through the haze in my brain. I wasn't going to let him do this.As we passed the archway near his quarters, I gathered every ounce of strength left in my body. I drove my elbow back with everything I had, slamming it directly into his ribs. The blow landed hard against his side. Evander let out a sharp grunt, his fingers loosening on the back of my neck for just a split second. That was all I needed.I tore myself out of his hold, the rough skin of my neck burning as I broke free. I didn't look back. I stumbled forward, my boots skidding against the slick floor as I sprinted down the private corridor toward my own room."Theo!" his voice roared behind me, thick and terrifying, but I was already at my door.I slammed my hand against the bio-scanner. The lock chimed green, the door slid open, and I threw myself insid

My heart slammed against my ribs so hard I thought my father would hear it."Maintenance issues are for the quartermaster to deal with, General," My father said dismissively, already turning back toward the stairs. "Dismissed. Rest up. We have a full council meeting at noon to review the reports.""Yes, Your Majesty," Evander said, bowing his head. The King marched off, his royal guards falling into formation behind him. I didn't waste a single second. I turned on my heel to follow, eager to get as far away from the military bay as humanly possible, with Oliver keeping a tight pace right beside me."Theo," Oliver whispered under his breath, his voice laced with panic. "He knows. He fucking knows.""Shut up and keep walking," I gritted out, keeping my eyes locked on the end of the corridor."Prince Theodore."Evander's voice boomed down the hallway. I froze. Before I could speed up my pace, footsteps echoed behind us. Evander cut across the hall, stepping cleanly into my path and bloc

Oliver didn't waste any time. He slipped out of the clinic, leaving me alone in the room with Sian. The silence between us was heavy. Sian turned toward the back wall, booting up his chemical extraction unit and setting out clean glass vials. I sat on the metal stool, resting my elbows on my knees while sweat trickled down the back of my neck."If the fabric is too clean, this won't work, Your Highness," Sian said, his voice quiet as he adjusted the settings. "Extraction needs active biological residue. If it was washed recently, there won't be enough left.""He wore it three days ago," I rasped, my throat feeling like sandpaper. "It's drenched in his scent."Sian just nodded, keeping his eyes on his console while the machine started to hum.Ten minutes later, the clinic door unlocked. Oliver slipped back inside, looking winded. He had Evander's dark wool cloak tucked under his jacket."Nobody saw me," Oliver panted, locking the door and handing the cloak to Sian. "The east wing was

We headed straight for the medical wing before the halls got crowded.Sian was already in his office, setting out tools on his desk. He looked neat as usual—clean lab coat, dark hair brushed back, looking like an innocent Omega who never broke a single rule in his life.He froze the second Oliver shut the door behind us and locked it."Your Highness," Sian said, looking between me and Oliver. "The clinic isn't open yet. If you need something—""Save it, Doc," I grunted, sitting down hard on an examination stool. "This isn't a social visit."Sian looked at my face, taking in my pale skin and the sweat on my forehead. "You look ill, Prince Theodore. If this is another one of your attempts to—""It's not," Oliver cut in, stepping between us. "We need a blood panel and a pheromone scan. Off the record. No logs, no reports to the council."Sian stared at Oliver like he was crazy. "I don't do off-the-record exams. Every scan automatically goes to the palace directory. It's royal protocol."
