LOGINDraven POV“This is all the cash I have right now.” Jon said, handing me a small black bag I’d watched him stuff full with money. “It’s not much but it should get be enough to get us to the palace.”“Thank you for everything.” I said quietly as I took the bag from him. “And I’m sorry.”“Sorry?” He laughed uneasily, his eyes searching my face. Then, as if he’d found his answer, the smile slipped away from his face. “No. You promised.”“It’s safer for you this way.” I said, raising my hand to knock him unconscious. “You’ll understand later.”“That’s why you wanted us to come back here isn’t it?” His eyes were filled with tired resignation as he looked at me. “So you wouldn’t have to drag me back.”“The doctor will be here soon. I’ve already told him what you need to do if you encounter any other rogues.” I said, throwing the bag over one shoulder. “Try not to leave the pack for the next few days.”“So he knows too.” Jon said. “I’m the only one in the dark.”“I don’t have much time.” I l
Elena POVI rose slowly to my feet to avoid startling him… or her, I wasn’t close enough to tell what gender the cat was from this distance.A quick glance around for its mother confirmed what I already knew. It was just the both of us on this quiet rooftop.“Where’s your mother?” I asked as the cat stared at me with its large green eyes. “How’d you even get up there?”But even if he, I was assuming it was male, had known how to speak, I doubted he would have answered my questions. He’d been watching me since I got up, his eyes tracking my movements as I drew closer, yet when I stood in front of him, he turned away, his body language suggesting nothing short of disdain for me. Ouch.“Your royal highness,” I chuckled lightly as I climbed up to the ledge just below the barrier. It wobbled a little, but quickly stabilized before my heart could jump into my throat. “I’m sorry to disturb your lovely stroll, but you really must get down.”“Meow.” He responded as if in protest, but didn’t m
TRIGGER WARNING: MENTION OF SUICIDEElena POV“Of course I care about you.” I said. “You’re my friend.”“Friend.” He repeated as he walked away, a surprising amount of anger in his voice.“What are you doing?” I called after him but he ignored me and instead started pulling open all the drawers to search for something. Then he started checking every corner of the room, even pulling the curtains apart to check the windows.“Where are you going?” I asked helplessly as his hand rested on the door’s handle. “We’re not done talking.”“Why?” He whirled around so fast that I winced, almost certain he must have pulled a muscle in his neck. “What else is there to talk about? Want me to give you suggestions on the easiest way for you to off yourself? Perhaps you want me to watch you do it?”Inhale.Exhale.“Why are you so angry?” I asked quietly. “I don’t want us to be on bad terms with each other.”“Are you messing with me?” He glared at me. “Do you think that matters to me right now?”“Lucas
TRIGGER WARNING:MENTION OF SUICIDEElena POV“Are you even listening to me?” Lucas’ anxious voice pulled me out of my thoughts. “You aren’t still thinking about letting her go, are you?”“I—““Elena,” his hands moved to my shoulders and held on tightly as if he wished to shake me a few times. “She tried to kill you. Twice.”“I know you think it’s stupid,” I said softly. Despite how forceful he was being, I knew it was only out of concern for me. “But—““It’s not only stupid but incredibly reckless.” He growled. “What if she somehow manages to come after you again? What then?”“Come after me?” I repeated, confused. “How would she be able to do that, with me in the dungeons?”He withdrew his hands from my shoulders and leaned back into his seat, his voice low. “I’ve already managed to convince some of the council members and they’ve agreed to help. Today, when I bring it up at the meeting, they’ll support me in ensuring you come out.” His voice softened. “You won’t have to go back in t
TRIGGER WARNING: MENTION OF SUICIDEElena POV“Can you give it to me when you’re done?” A low voice suddenly sounded right next to my ear.I looked around carefully but there was no one else in the cell with me. “Give what?” I asked, almost certain that I was now hearing things.“I saw your tray. They removed every sharp object you could have used to harm yourself but you aren’t even worried.” The voice continued. “It’s obvious you have something hidden already. Can you pass it to me when you’re done?”Unlike my initial assumption, the voice was real and it was coming from the wall behind me.I tried not to let the worry show in my voice. Was she going to tell Lucas? “Why not use yours?”After a prolonged dry chuckle, the woman’s voice sounded again. “You think everyone’s like you? Some of us have to eat with our bare hands.”I pushed away my surprise at her words and forced my voice to remain calm. “Why do you think I’m planning to hurt myself?”“It sounded that way earlier.” She sa
TRIGGER WARNING: MENTION OF SUICIDE Elena POV Half asleep, I burrowed deeper into the blanket but no matter how much I turned, it never seemed to cover me fully. “Draven,” I called drowsily after a few more seconds, “I’m cold.” When the blanket didn’t magically fix itself around me and no thick arm reached to pull me closer to a warm chest, I opened my eyes, blinking in confusion at the unfamiliar walls around me. Right. My breath caught in my throat as the memories came rushing in, washing away every bit of sleep from my eyes. He’s gone. My hands held on tightly to the blanket. I shouldn’t have opened my eyes. I should have continued sleeping. Maybe then I would have been able to dream of him. In the middle of my daily round of self pity, I heard footsteps. Quickly, I closed my eyes and calmed my breathing before the person could get close enough to see that I wasn’t sleeping. A short while later, the person moved away as if they’d only come to check who I’d been talking to.
Draven POV“We’ve really had such a great time here Alpha Draven.” Cassandra said with a smile, twirling the glass of champagne in her hand. She turned to her brother who stood at her side.“Don’t you agree Caleb?”“I’m sure Alpha Draven hasn’t had a moment of peace ever since you darkened his doors
Elena POV “Are you okay?” Draven asked quietly, warmth spilling from his eyes, “the both of you?” I blinked in at the question but nodded slowly. “Yeah, I’m fine, Lara is still a bit shocked but she’ll be okay.” “Good. I’ve been thinking of something since the marking ceremony but I haven’t re
Elena POV“Poppy,” I breathed, my voice tinged with shock, “who did this to you?”Her eyes turned frantic. “No one did this to me Luna, I tripped one morning and hit my face on the ground.”She sounded so earnest that anyone would have believed her, but I knew the tell tale signs of physical abuse.
Elena POV “What?” Get me pregnant? Was this a joke? I searched his face carefully, there wasn’t even a hint of a smile on his lips. “You’re serious.” I whispered. He paced the room while running his fingers through his hair. “One of the other Alpha Kings is coming here. We need to get you pr
