Ever's POV:

My head went silent for a while as I stared at him, too stunned to form words.

“I don't know what you're talking about,” I tried to outrightly deny it, but it backfired.

“One minute he was all over you, the next he went as far as asking you to duck underwater,” he let out, and my breath caught.

He saw us. He saw us getting intimate and even Roy interrupting, and Hagan asking me to duck. Did he also know about Hagan and Rhaeya? I pondered.

“Why're you doing this?” I asked.

“Doing wha

Ever's POVI clutched my veil tightly, turning my face away in an attempt to avoid his gaze.“I...I'm not hungry, so just get yours, and I'll wait there for you,” I whispered behind Rhaeya in an attempt to flee.“What? Why?” She held me back. Please no. “You don't like the buns?” she asked, concern etched across her gaze.Rhaeya, please not now.“Should I get you girls the buns? Is there a problem?” the merchant's voice reached us again, and I stiffened.“What? Is there something wrong? Something you spotted? I thought you wanted to get one too,” Rhaeya persisted, and I just wished the ground could open up to swallow me.“Hello? Girls?” he called again. Rhaeya turned this time.“So sorry for the delay, sir. We would like to get one bun,” she replied.I clung tighter to my veil, turning away entirely.“Your friend, is she shy?” he asked. He noticed me?Oh Goddess, I was so done for. What if he recognized me and talked about Zeke, and then Rhaeya started asking questions? And everything

Ever's POVI turned to see one of the guards, eyebrows furrowed, standing still as his eyes raked over us. Our outfits, our veils, and our pale faces all together. Rhaeya and I exchanged panicked glances, not knowing how to bail ourselves out.“Are... Are you going somewhere, Luna?” he asked.Rhaeya and I adjusted our veils, still unable to reply.“You look different today. Do you need Alpha Hagan? Should I go call him?”“No!” Rhaeya and I screamed in unison.“I'm fine, Eric. You don't need to involve Hagan,” Rhaeya assured him, pulling off her veil. “As a matter of fact...” she said, inching closer, her gaze now more serious. “Hagan should hear no word of this,” she stated, waiting for a response from him, to which he nodded, swallowing hard.“Yes, Luna,” he replied, lowering his gaze.I was amazed at the impact Rhaeya had even on the royal guards. She even knew all their names in such a short period. I, on the other hand, barely knew the names of the Omegas I was currently working w

Ever's POVMy eyes raked over the outfit from head to toe in utter disbelief. Her blonde hair was also let down and unstyled, and I noticed she'd stripped herself of all jewelry.“Luna, why?...”“You must be surprised, right?” she beamed, like she'd accomplished something important. “Do you think this look could pass for an Omega? I just grabbed the closest hand-me-down I could get.” She let out a laugh, still puzzling me.“But why?” I asked her. “Is there somewhere you're going?”She turned and headed for the mirror, straightening her hair with the brush as she sat.“Did anyone see you come in?” she asked.“No,” I replied.“Anyone outside?” she followed with another question.“No. Is there something wrong?” I asked, brows raised. Her facial expressions were hard to read. I didn't know what to make of...this. My eyes scanned her outfit once again.“You know...” Rhaeya's voice cut through, still brushing her hair as she turned to me. “Since my arrival here, I've never gone past the Pac

Ever's POV My eyes shone as I jumped at her in excitement, partially wrapping her in a warm hug as I cautiously held the dishes. We both stilled, melting into the warmth of our embrace, like we could stay here forever and time could just keep going. I missed her so much. Her warmth, her scent. That smile that told me she definitely had a lot of gossip to share, I chuckled. We eventually broke free and I just stared at her, smiling. “What's it been now, years since we last saw?” she asked, teasing. “Even decades,” I said, and we both laughed. But it wasn't a lie, though. It felt like decades since we last saw. “Yes. As I was saying,” she pouted, crossing her arms. “You forgot all about me. Didn't even bother to come to the ranch.” She glared at me. I sighed, not knowing how to explain to her the twists and turns my life had officially taken. “I'm sorry,” I said, tugging at her arm as I made a face to ease her. She side-eyed me for a while, then eventually gave in. “Well,

Ever's POV:“He doesn't seem very... happy,” Zeke smiled at Rhaeya after Hagan stormed out. “Did I say something wrong?” he questioned sinisterly. “Or maybe...” His gaze turned to me, and I lowered my scrutinized eyes. “...I offended someone important to him?” he said, and a lump formed in my throat. Rhaeya's gaze turned to me.“We're highly honoured to have you at this breakfast, Alpha Zeke,” she said, her voice unusually filled with gloom. “But this is a breakfast table, not the right time to discuss politics and Pack affairs,” she said, and he smiled again.“Well...” he said, raising both hands in surrender. “You have my apology for that... Luna,” he offered.“Forgive our Alpha. He has the tendency to be bursting with ideas at rather unpleasant moments and not when he's actually called upon to give them,” Abe apologized, his eyes shooting daggers at Zeke.“I always knew you were a meathead, brother. I'm not surprised,” Aya said, happily chewing down her food.My gaze moved towards

Hagan's POVMy eyes didn't leave her for even one second as they followed her every movement.What... what was she doing with Rhaeya? Our eyes met a couple of times, but she looked away just as quickly as our gazes crossed.Rhaeya stood behind the chair at my side, which was between Zeke and me. She avoided my gaze the entire time. She stood still for a while like she was expecting me to say something, and when I didn't, she cleared her throat, gesturing to the chair as our eyes met.Did she not like the chair? Or maybe... she didn't want to sit beside me. I wouldn't blame her if she didn't.“Would you like the chair to be changed?” I blurted. All eyes turned to us and she facepalmed, groaning.Zeke got up, strode to her, and pulled out the chair. My eyes shut closed in embarrassment. Ever had overridden my focus to the extent that I no longer knew what I was doing. I barely paid attention to what was going on.Rhaeya sat down, shooting me death stares as she adjusted her dress.Ever
