Chapter 48: A Lesson on Traitors

last update publish date: 2025-12-15 20:47:45

“Traitor.” That was the first word I heard from Kallias the next morning. He was lying beside me, his head propped with one hand as we faced each other side by side.“You crawled into bed without me!”

I snickered. “It only took me to go to sleep for half an hour after we ate at midnight. It took you more than an hour to fall asleep thanks to that book of yours.” I crossed my arms.

Kallias kissed my grumpy face. “Rise, my winter sunshine. Let’s both take our morning bath.”

“Summon your silver-blue moonflames, Luna. Only tendrils of them, enough to cover the mouth and tongue,” the Healer ordered gently.“Uhm, how is that going to help?”“It’ll freeze to ashes the trace of blood magic on His Majesty while my healing magic will heal what the blood magic has done to him.”I obeyed her, and we watched our powers work their wonder. When the pregnant Healer from the Scarletsnow Pack and I were now bombarded with sweat and the bleeding had finally stopped, Kallias cracked his eyes open slowly. He took in his surroundings, the image of me standing beside him and the Healer staring down at him with her palms open.“Eva...Evadne...” Kal moaned. I squeezed his hand and the next thing I knew, I was crying. He coughed, and this time, no blood bled from his lips.“He just needs more rest, Luna.” The Healer put a hand on my shoulder, and then she was whisking me away from my mate’s earshot. “Let’s do it now.” She picked up a vial of potion with bright red liquid inside

Evadne’s POV I know a threat when I hear one. “You dare threaten the Alpha King, Elise?” I hissed softly, my voice calm but edged with disdain. “Oh, no. I merely did something to convince him further to believe me.” She chuckled darkly, a glint of malice flashed in her eyes. My thoughts remembered Kallias on the floor, his mouth bleeding, his tongue bloodied. Those were definitely not battle wounds—those were the work of blood magic. “Then better make sure your convincing will not send you to be choking on your own blood, eh?” Her face became alarmed. She opened her mouth to say something but closed it. Yes, I let her know subtly that I suspect she has something to do with Kal’s mouth bleeding and not being able to say the three words I myself took enough courage to say. ‘I love you, Kallias. I know one day and at the right time, you can say it back without blood in your tongue.’ “Good night, Elise. See you tomor

Kal’s POV (written in 3rd person)“There. I finally said it, didn’t I?” He chuckled without amusement. “That’s what I want to talk about when I told you days ago I wanted to talk about something after Alpha Fionn’s coronation.”“Do you?” Evadne squeaked. Her hand shot to her belly.Kal blinked. “What?”“Do you really mean it?” Her eyes were bright with tears. She hugged me around the neck all of a sudden.“Of course,” he answered softly. “Do you think I’m going to say something without meaning it?”She blinked amid the tears, laughing with delight. But the laughter left and her face darkened again. “Do you believe her?”Kallias shrugged, but he couldn’t deny the possibility yet again. “She claimed she was in the Moonflame Pack during your childhood,” Evadne was saying. “I don’t remember her or her name being part of this pack.”“You weren’t born yet, sweetheart.”Evadne blinked at the pet name. “Sweetheart?” she smiled. But her smile was short-lived just like her laughter once again.

Kal’s POV (written in 3rd person)Evadne gasped and took a step backward, unsure if she heard the right words that escaped from her Alpha King's lips.'You’re just in denial, Kallias!' Elise's words echoed in his ears. Maybe Elise was right, Kallias told himself. 'But maybe I was also a coward for not believing Evadne and her three words.'Evadne's three words, also known as her 'I love you', have haunted Kallias to the point that he realized he’s falling for her too. And unlike Evadne, he doesn’t have enough courage to say it back. That courage worsened even more when Elise arrived and claimed to be his first love and the childhood friend he promised to return to.“Don’t call me Kallias, Elise! I’m your Alpha King and you’re a second-class Beta!”Kallias’ turmoil had just become a hurricane. He was just about to discuss matters of the heart with his mate, and then Elise came. He didn’t mind the Rogues’ attack on Fionn’s coronation; nothing that he and the other Alphas can’t handle. A

The throne room had fewer people, as some decided to retire to bed earlier. I had more rounds of drinks and gossip with Helga and the two Lunas, which consisted of sharing our previous battle experiences and bed escapades.“How about you, Luna Queen? Does His Majesty prefer any position at all?” I almost spat my drink as Lillian drawled.“He likes any position, but it seems he likes the ones I’m on top.”“So the Alpha King is a bottom, then,” Helga raised her glass in a toast and all three of them laughed. I just smiled anxiously, thanks to Elise’s presence in the pack.‘If she dares to step here in the throne room, I’ll burn her with my moonflame.’“Alpha Fionn’s crown was indeed blessed with bloodstain,” chuckled Lillian. She turned to me. “When will your coronation as a Luna Queen be, Luna Evadne?”I blinked and stiffened. “Uh, I’m

We charged together, Alphas and Lunas side by side. We were fighting with armor and swords and battle horses today, our wolves ready within us in case the battle turned dire and we needed to fight this the monstrous wolf way. “Moon Goddess, guide us,” I prayed softly as our horses trudged up the hill of snow. Kal threw a spear of ice at the nearest Rogue and impaled him right there and then. A wave of his hand to the fire and with a mighty winter wind blast, the fire gone out and only smoke and ashes remained. “Kal, don’t overdo your powers—” But then a black wolf slammed into my mare, and I’m almost knocked over to the snow. Furious, I burned the black wolf with my silver-dark blue flames. The Crescent Woods Pack’s Alpha and his mother were

'The Alpha King seemed to devour any storm passing by just to show me his effort for us to dine together for the second time,’ I was telling myself. Begging myself. ‘Please don’t run to the toilet yet.’ I swallowed. Perhaps I should fart in my room first before meeting the Alpha King.
