"Good evening, Officer Clark. I was about to drive away." Liam said in a very calm voice. "You know you can be fined for parking here." The policeman's eyes landed on me as he completed his sentence, then he looked away. "Apologies, Officer Clark. I will be on my way." "Yeah, you should. And regards to Mr. Hayworth." Liam nodded, wind up the glass, and started the car. The policeman stood there watching us until we had reached quiet a distance away. My heart was still pounding from the orgasm I had nearly had. I groaned. "He sure had to interrupt at the wrong time." Then I asked, "How does he know you? Through your dad?" I asked, genuinely curious. "Yes." "Your dad sure has connections." He simply nodded, his eyes still on the road, his jaw tight like he was trying to settle himself too. I reached into the compartment in front of me and took out his phone. His eyes immediately followed my hand. "What are you doing?" I held the phone up to his face to unlock it, then said in a slow voice, "Saving my number on your phone." I tapped at the screen, saved it, and showed him, then a smirk crawled up his face. "Mon Chérie?" He said, a laugh fighting to break free. "Don't laugh. And keep your eyes on the road." The laugh broke loose anyway, and I couldn't help smiling as I watched him. The rest of the ride was smooth and silent with both of us left to our own thoughts. I couldn't stop thinking about what had happened in that car, the way his fingers were driving me crazy, the way the policeman's knock had cut everything short right when I needed it most. The car entered the estate, and I smiled without meaning to. Finally home, after a long first day of being talked about by everyone in school. As the car stopped in front of the mansion, I got down before Liam did and headed straight inside. As I walked into the living room it was filled with delicious aroma. I walked dropped my backpack on a sofa in the sitting room and made my way to the kitchen where the smell wafted from. I saw Ana, the maid from this morning busy behind the stove . "Good evening." She turned, and her face lit up with recognition. "Welcome back, ma'am." "Oh please, call me Vera." She simply nodded. I walked closer to where she stood by the stove. "What are you cooking?" "Mushroom soup and mashed potatoes." "It looks yummy. I would like a plate as soon as it's ready, I'm famished." I walked to the fridge, grabbed a cup from the rack, and poured myself some mango juice. My favorite. I stood close to her, sipping quietly, until she turned to me with a plate already made. "Thank you." A bright smile spread across my face as I walked to the counter and sat on one of the stools, ready to dig in. "Hmm, this is so delicious. I would love it if you packed some treats for school tomorrow morning, I didn't eat lunch today." I said between bites. I actually needed this food badly. "I'm glad you like it. I will make something delicious for you tomorrow." "Yes please, for just tomorrow. I want to make up for today." She smiled, nodded and went back to what she was doing. I was about to take my last bite when Liam walked in. He had changed into casual clothes, and somehow that didn't stop him from looking breathtaking. A plain black t-shirt that sat snug across his chest, sweatpants hanging low on his waist, like he hadn't bothered trying to look good and somehow still managed to anyway. I held his gaze as I said, "I could eat this so many times without getting tired." His gaze dropped from my face to the plate, then back up, a smirk pulling at his mouth in understanding of what I meant. "Eat fast so you can go change out of your wrongly buttoned shirt." "Welcome, sir." Ana greeted him, and I glanced down at my shirt. ‘I actually didn't button it well.’ A smile crept onto my lips as I remembered the almost-caught moment from earlier. I sipped my juice slowly till it finished, my eyes flicking up to him every so often as he leaned against the counter, watching me eat like he had nowhere else to be. Ana excused herself to check something in the pantry, and just like that, it was only the two of us in the kitchen. "You're staring." I said, setting my cup down. "You're the one who left her shirt half open." "Maybe It was a mistake or maybe it isn't." I shrugged, gathering the dirty dishes and taking my time as I walked pasthim toward the sink. "Which one is it?" I didn't answer right away. I let my hand brush against his exposed forearm as I passed, slow and light, barely there, but enough to make his body go still beside me. His gaze followed me, I gave me a seductive wink and bit my lower lip with my eyes on his. I knew I had his attention. I rinsed the plate slower than I needed to, aware of his eyes followed everything I did, the way water ran over my fingers, the way I leaned forward. "You're doing that on purpose." His voice had dropped lower. "Doing what?" I turned to face him, drying my hands with the towel hanging by the sink, my eyes never leaving his. He took a step closer, close enough that I had to raise my head up to keep looking at him. He stretched his hand, then his fingers grazed my jaw, tilting my chin slightly. "Liam." I breathed his name with both warning and invitation. "What?" His thumb traced along my bottom lip. "Ana could walk in any second." “So?” "Then maybe you should stop." "Maybe I don't want to." His forehead rested against mine for a moment, his breath warm against my lips, and just when I thought he would close the distance, footsteps echoed outside the kitchen. He pulled back fast, putting space between us like nothing had happened and his expression smoothing into something unreadable. I bit back a smile and made sure to walk toward the door in the most deliberate way I could, every step I took was slow, with my hips swaying that caused my ass to shake in the most tempting way. At the doorway, I looked back once and caught his eyes snap up to my face, like he had been watching somewhere else. ‘Perfect.’ A victorious smile crossed my face as I walked out. I entered into the living room, picked up my bag from the sofa, and climbed the stairs. As I got to my room, I tossed my bag onto the chair in the corner and walked straight into the bathroom. I needed a shower really bad. *** I stood in front of the mirror, drying my hair, when I noticed something on my neck. I leaned closer to the glass and realized it was a faded mark, left behind from all the nibbling Liam had done earlier. A smile lit up my face as I remembered everything that happened between us in his car, his hands on my body, his lips, his fingers inside me. My phone beeped, pulling me out of the memory. I had a message. I walked over and grabbed it, and saw a text from an unknown number. I tapped the profile picture first. It was Liam, looking sexy in the photo, his upper body bare, his abs on display and his hair falling over half his face. Then I opened the message. [Have you done your assignment?] A wide smile broke across my face as I fell back onto the bed. I rolled from one edge to the other, giggling, before settling onto my belly with a pillow tucked under my chin. I typed back. [I wasn't given assignment. What about you?] [Already done with them.] [Kk. So… I want more of what happened in the car. Ready for tomorrow?]Vera's POVThey walked into the building holding hands.Sarah was looking all happy. Her fingers were locked with Liam's, and for a second, I couldn't look away. Then they stopped walking.A male student came up to Liam and pulled him into a conversation. Sarah stood beside him, smiling and adding small comments here and there.Until her eyes found mine.A slow smile spread across her face. The kind of smile that made my stomach twist. She let her gaze slide over me, then lifted her hand and touched Liam's jaw, slow and easy, like she had every right to.My blood ran cold. I didn't feel angry or betrayed instead I felt unsure.Liam ended things between us. Then he went straight back to Sarah? He prefers going back to his failed relationship than giving us a try?The thought sat heavy in my chest as I stayed rooted on the spot where I stood.Around me, students were already talking."They are really back together. They can't resist each other.”“Team they separated forever are going to
Vera's POVI could feel the hair on my back rise. I turned back to look at him."Forgot what?"Without thinking, I stepped closer. The space between us was gone and our bodies were almost touching. And my stupid heart was beating so loud, I could hear it.For a second, neither of us moved. Then Liam lifted his hand between us, putting some distance back. "Your book."I blinked, my eyes moved to his raised hand.He had my book in his hand.I quickly grabbed it, but before I could say a word, someone knocked on the door.I quickly snatched the book from Liam's hand and stepped back from him fast.Liam didn't even flinch. He simply walked to the door and opened it.A smile appeared on his face right away."Good morning, Alyssa.""Good morning, Liam."My mum's cheerful voice floated into the room. "Is Vera in there with you?"My eyes went wide.Without wasting a second, I squeezed through the small gap between Liam and the door. The space was so tight I almost tripped. As I pushed past hi
Vera's POVToday is Friday, the last day I have to go to school this week. After the day at the library, Liam has been avoiding holding conversation. All we do is go to school and come back. Nothing more.I wouldn't lie, it was getting to me.I walked out of my room with a book in my hand and stood in front of Liam's bedroom door. I made sure I woke up earlier than usual, because I now know he leaves his room early to get a drink from the kitchen.I stood there for a moment, took a breath, then opened three buttons of my shirt, enough to show skin. I pushed the door open and walked in.He sat behind his desk, writing something with concentration and frustration written on his face. His head snapped toward the door the moment it opened.I shut the door behind me."What are you doing in my room?" he asked, his pen still in his hand."I need your help.” I said as I walked closer to where he sat and I couldn't help but stare at his shirtless upper body. He wore just loose shorts, my eyes
Vera's POVI looked at him, confused. "Stop what?""Whatever this is between us.""Why should we, all of a sudden?""We almost got caught. And we're step siblings.""But we didn't get caught, and I already agreed to keep us being step siblings a secret." I raised my hand to touch his chest, but he stepped backward, putting space between us."I'm serious. You should head back to class."He turned his back and started to leave, his shoulders stiff…. but I couldn't help but ask, then he stopped mid-step."What were you and Sarah talking about this morning? Is that why you suddenly want this to stop?"His hands curled into fists at his sides and he said in a controlled voice like he was holding something heavy behind his teeth."We had a deal. Make sure you keep to your end of it."I watched him walk away until he disappeared around the corner."Damn it." I dragged a hand down my face.Liam was such a dickhead, even though I liked him. One minute we were tangled up in each other, breathle
Vera's POVI walked into the library and I won't lie, it was grand. The ceiling stretched high above me, lined with shelves that almost touched the top. An woman that probably will be in her 40's sat behind the front desk with her nose buried in a book, not even looking up when I passed. I turned and walked toward the left wing. The library felt empty, there were no students in it at the moment, probably because it was lunch hour. I walked all the way to the far end of the west wing, shelves rising on both sides of me like walls. I took out my phone to text Liam and ask where he was when a hand grabbed me from behind and pulled me back. I opened my mouth to shout, but a large palm held it before any sound left me. My back hit a warm chest, and when I turned my head… I was face to face with Liam. With our noses almost touching.I mumbled against his palm, telling him to let go. He leaned closer, his breath brushing my ear.“Calm down. Don't talk too loud.”He pulled his hand away s
Vera's POV"What?" He asked, looking at me like I was a nuisance with one eyebrow raised.I took quick steps and went to open the passenger’s door beside the driver and made myself comfortable without a word. He slid into the car and started the ignition without another word."That was so unnecessary." He said in a cool voice as he had driven outside the estate with his eyes fixed ahead on the road.I shrugged my shoulder in an "it is what it is" way and said, "I didn't want you to leave me behind like you almost did yesterday."He didn't say anything, he just continued driving, one hand on the steering wheel while the other rested on his lap with his fingers tapping to whatever rhythm played through his airpods. The rest of the ride was silent. I watched the buildings blur past the window and I couldn't help stealing glances from time to time at his jaw, his fingers, anything to keep my mind off how close he'd held me that morning from time to time. He didn't even look at me once.Th
Vera's POV I stood still, the glass of water frozen in my hand. What the heck? "I should be the one asking you that." He said with his eyes carrying suspicion. My eyes went wide as I stared at him across the kitchen counter. The same guy from last night. The same guy whose lips had pressed aga
Vera's POVLiam stopped moving right away. His face showed clear surprise. His hand pulled away from my waist so fast, like my skin had burned him."What are you doing here, Sarah? We broke up, remember?"His voice sounded more shocked than guilty. My chest was still moving up and down fast from ev
Vera's POV"Yes, I am."I replied before I even thought about the words I said."Welcome." She said, still with that warm smile on her face. She stepped aside to give me enough space to enter.I walked into the office."Off you go to class, Liam." I heard her say the words behind me.I didn't look
Vera's POV His head snapped toward me just for a second. Then he looked back at the road. He held the steering wheel so tight I was sure the poor thing might break. "I just asked you a question." His jaw moved, and that was it. No words, no explanation… nothing. Like I wasn't in the same space w
