The morning was too bright, too bright for her mood. The morning air was crisp and the warm light filtered in though the wooden window.

The resounding knocks on the door woke her up and she let out a tired yawn.

“Come in,” She replied, still half-asleep.

The door burst open and Tessa walked in, sunshine and chaos.

“Still in bed?” She asked, plopping beside her with a grin that could light up the entire room.

“What made you so happy this morning?” Ivy raised an eyebrow, her voice muffled as she buried her face in her pillow.

“You” Tessa pointed at her.

“Me?” Ivy yawned again, unimpressed

“Tired?” Tessa said, a teasing smile playing on her lips.

“You're acting weird today” Ivy observed.

“I saw you last night” Tessa smiled.

“Where?” Ivy's sleepy eyes peeled open

“With… Your Alpha” Tessa teased and Ivy chuckled.

Ivy groaned, throwing a pillow at her. “I was just passing by!”

“I know” Tessa sang, dodging the pillow.

“Crazy girl! What on earth are you thinking?”

“Hey, I'm innocent” Tessa raised her hands in mock surrender.

Ivy yawned for the third time and pushed herself up on the bed to a sitting posture.

“An uninformed person will think you stayed up all night playing” Tessa chuckled.

“You're annoying” Ivy smiled and stood up walking into the bathroom.

By the time Ivy returned from the bathroom, her hair still damp and her eyes more awake, Tessa was picking berries from a bowl on the table.

“You missed dinner” Tessa stated, matter of factly.

“I'm not yet hungry but I would catch a plate at Grandmother's” Ivy said, slipping into her jacket.

A knock on the door made them jump.

“Come in” Ivy called after a moment.

A soldier walked in and gave a small bow.

“I think Zeke is the only one rejecting you at this point” Tessa whispered.

“The Alpha summons you to his office” The soldier said.

“Wow, interesting” Ivy let out a small smile and nodded at the soldier who slowly retreated away.

“I gotta go” Ivy said.

“Go attend to his needs” Tessa pushed her lightly, her tone implying something else entirely.

“I don't know what to do with you” Ivy face-palmed.

“I love you too” Tessa chuckled and pushed the door open, giving her a mock bow and walking out of the room.

Alone, Ivy let out a sigh and ran her fingers over her hair, trying to arrange it properly before giving up and tying it into a high ponytail.

She left her quarters, the corridors quiet but for the echo of her steps. Guards along the hallway bowed slightly, and she nodded back before pushing open Zeke's office door

“Miss me already Stoneheart” She casually flung herself onto his couch.

“You've been assigned to assist Mika at the greenhouse” Zeke instructed, not raising his head from the papers spread across the table.

“You should have told me to get you flowers. How romantic!” Her voice sounded, a cutting edge in it.

“You can leave now” He said, his tone clipped and final

“What? You can't be serious” It finally dawned on her that he wasn't joking.

“You thought I was playing around?” He asked, eyes finally lifting to meet hers - cold, unreadable and far more intense.

“Oh Stoneheart. You can't do this to me right? I'm your mate after all” She groaned standing up. She walked up to him and grabbed his hands, swinging it about teasingly.

Zeke pulled his hands away and looked down at her “Come on, the plants won't water themselves” He said, lips twitching slightly in amusement.

“You're really heartless” Ivy straightened up, her hands on her waist.

Zeke's eyes softened for the briefest moment - too quick for her to catch - before he returned to his papers.

Ivy sighed softly and turned on her heels, walking out of the office.

“Ivy” He called when she reached the door.

She turned, arching a brow.

“Don't start a fire there”

She smiled sweetly. “Can't promise that” She replied, tossing a wink at him as she walked out of the office.

The greenhouse smelled of earth and rain. Sunlight poured in through the glass panes, falling on rows of flowers, herbs and vines that shimmered with dew.

Mika stood at the far end, watering lillies. Her silver hair caught the light, her posture graceful and wise.

“Hi Ivy” She didn't realize when the woman walked up to her.

“Heh… Hello Mika” She let out a small smile.

“You're early”

“Wasn't exactly given a choice” Ivy rolled her eyes.

Mika chuckled. “You never are, dear”

“Your plants are beautiful” She commented.

“Yeah, they are” Mika replied with a soft tenderness that could easily be missed.

Ivy's fingers brushed past the roses beside her and their petals shone with a blinding light.

Ivy stepped back “Does it always react like this?”

“No, this is the first time” Mika said, her eyebrows furrowed into a mild frown.

“I guess they like me” Ivy chuckled nervously.

“Hmm” Mika nodded. “You can say that” Her eyes shone with unsaid words.

“You're always here, it's not just the beauty of the plants right?” Ivy asked.

“Plants don't talk, I love my peace” She replied, filling the water can with water.

“I will try not to” Ivy replied and Mika laughed.

“There are things you're incapable of” Mika chuckled. “Don't lie to yourself child, I heard your stories” She added and Ivy let out a small sigh, rubbing the back of her neck.

“I'm not how the stories put me to be” She tried clarifying.

“We would get to know that soon enough” Mika smiled. “Come on” She patted her back “Those seeds won't plant themselves” Ivy nodded and picked up a bowl of seeds walking away.

Mika stayed behind, her eyes flickering between Ivy and the dark roses which had just shone blindly a moment ago.

Lucas and Tessa stayed at the park for sometime, catching up with everything that had been happening. The sky was becoming dark when Tessa decided to leave. She was supposed to have dinner with her parents and Petra, the first time Petra would be meeting her best friend. In Inver twenty years. Lucas walked her back to the heart of the pack and watched her head towards her parents house. He took in a deep breath and turned towards the alpha's chambers, heading towards Zeke's house. When he reached there, he placed a knock on the door and he heard Zeke's voice from inside the room. “Come in.” So he pushed the door open and stepped in. The first thing he noticed was the empty coffee cups laying on the table and his eyes caught Zeke and ivy, seated on the same sofa. His eyes twitched and he just stood, watching them, saying nothing. Zeke stared at him for a while, probably waiting for him to make any comment about what he saw, the way he would have done if he didn't have anything both

Lucas's eyes zoomed on Tessa who was sitting alone in the public garden, on a bench. He looked around but there was no sign of Ivy, he was hoping she was with Zeke as he didn't need any distractions. He exhaled slowly and took measured and careful steps towards her. Tessa raised her head to the sound of approaching footsteps. When she saw it was him, she picked up the packets of chocolates around her and stood up, Lucas watched her, quickening his steps. She took only two steps away before his hands clamped down on her wrist. She stilled at the contact and looked down at his hand but he didn't make any move to stay away. “Lucas.” Tessa called through gritted teeth, her eyes still burning into his hand on her wrist.Lucas remained silent but pulled her to the bench, sitting her on it. “Now, are you ready to talk?”Tessa scoffed, rolling her eyes. “There's nothing to talk about.” “There's a whole lot to talk about, I've been on the recieving side of this your newly formed attitude a

“Stoneheart.” She breathed out. “Hmm…?” Zeke leaned back in the chair, his hands crossed against his chest, his lips pulled into a smirk. They stayed like that for a moment, just staring at each other. The tension in the air thickened as their eyes clashed, with no one backing down. “Come here.” Zeke finally muttered, stretching out his hands to her. Ivy nodded and took in a deep breath before walking towards him. As she reached him, she placed her hands on his outstretched hands and just waited. Zeke looked down on her hands in his and stood up, leading her away from where he sat to the couch across the room. “Sit.” He instructed and she obeyed, falling in a trance under his dark eyes - like a deep dark abyss. He watched as she sank into the couch, obeying him and he smiled. He let go of her hands and she placed them on her thighs, watching him walk away. When he returned, he heard two cups of freshly processed milk and handed one over to her. Ivy accepted the cup and took a s

Zeke pushed the door to his chambers open and he stepped in. The room was dark, the curtains drawn together, the windows shut close. He leaned against the door, quick succession of breathes escaping his nostrils. His chest moved as he allowed himself breath. The darkness swallowed him whole but he didn't care. He just stood there . When he pushed himself off the door, he used his hands to feel his way to his table. He turned on the sunset lamp on his desk, illuminating his room with a soft yellow light. He dropped on his chair, taking a sip from the already cold coffee in his hand before setting the cup on the desk with a soft thud. He pushed himself back on the chair, a groan rumbling from his throat, memories he had kept buried down resurfacing like the rush of wind. Young Zeke had stood on the ruins of his parents home. He had gone to Lucas's house for a sleepover that night when he heard the screams. And then he felt the pain. When he successfully came out of the house, escap

By the next morning, the pack members had already guessed what was happening. Rumors had spread out faster than Zeke and Lucas would want it to. The elders had informed their families who in turn informed other families but there was no official statement yet. So the pack members waited to hear from the horse's mouth - Zeke. They didn't want to believe what they were hearing because it would only serve to remind them how foolish they were, allowing the murderer of their beloved alpha couple take over the alpha position. At dawn, Zeke was already up, not because of any tactical operation but because he needed to talk with Darius. To see him one more time before he left. To his surprise, almost all pack members were already up, waiting. They bowed when he walked past but he didn't give them anything, just that unfathomable expression of his. Lucas joined him at a point in his walk. They headed for Darius apartment, quietly, with nobody saying anything, just swimming in their thoughts

“This isn't over yet.” Darius said quietly, matter of factly.Zeke only gave a short nod and stepped away from him. “I didn't expect this from you, uncle.” He whispered back and turned towards the council. “Since I realized a whole lot of you have been blinded by my uncle's behaviour and the things he does, I've been holding back by a light string of thread into disabling this council…” Zeke was saying.“You can disable the council elders, they watch over the pack…”“And listen to you. Watch me disable them.” Zeke snorted and turned back to the elders who were watching him with fear in their eyes. “Like I was saying,” he continued. “I would only be giving one last chance to this council, the benefit of doubt and that would be all. You would use the voting boxes that had already been positioned here to vote me out, you would use it to vote Darius out. He has spent enough time in our pack house.” He said. “You can't chase me away from here, I'm royalty.” Darius stated in a loud voice.

“Wait!” Ivy yelled. She had watched Zeke's hands clench, his eyes narrowing into slits and she could feel his tension through the mate bond. He didn't want to lose Lucas. No one in their right senses would sacrifice their capable beta for a mate they didn't want. So she needed to help him. “If you

The war raged. The sounds floated into Ivy's ears through the broken wall of the compound — steel meeting steel, the guttural snarls of shifting wolves, boots hitting packed earth, the particular sharp crack of a body hitting the ground and not getting up. Zeke moved before he could think, his mind being completely controlled by Leer who had gone feral from seeing his mate in that condition and from the wolf fever. A broken howl escaped his lips and his hands curled over the soldier's neck. The man gasped and scratched at his hands but he didn't bud
