Chapter 4

Author: Asteria
The next morning, at seven o'clock, instead of making his usual patrol around the territory, Silas returned to the estate early.

The moment he stepped through the door and saw the four neatly packed suitcases in the living room, he froze.

"Do you really need this much luggage just to visit your family?"

Without even taking off his coat, he walked anxiously into the bedroom.

I was helping Luke fold his clothes. Without looking back, I answered, "It's a long trip. We might be staying for a while."

Hearing that, Silas instinctively turned to Luke.

After a brief silence, Luke nodded.

Only then did Silas visibly relax. He pulled three beautifully designed tickets from his coat and placed them in front of us.

"You've been upset that I never took Luke to Moonshadow Park, haven't you?

"I bought VIP tickets for this afternoon. The three of us can finally go together."

His voice was obviously placating, and even his usually calm-looking eyes were filled with anticipation.

For a moment, I wondered if I'd heard him correctly.

Nearly a month had passed. Only now had he remembered Luke's birthday wish.

But when I thought of the dozens of unread messages and apologies on my phone that morning, I understood.

This was simply a belated attempt to make amends.

I said nothing. I simply lowered my head and continued straightening Luke's collar.

Luke's eyes, however, sparkled with excitement. Looking up at me eagerly, he said, "I want to go."

Seeing the hopeful look in his eyes, I couldn't help but smile.

Before I could respond, Silas spoke hesitantly.

"But if you two want to go, there's one condition."

His voice grew softer and softer.

"Julia knows we're planning a trip soon. She's worried Aiden will be upset if he finds out.

"So, could we postpone our trip for now?"

As he spoke, he couldn't even bring himself to meet my eyes.

The light in Luke's eyes faded instantly.

"I see."

He lowered his head before gripping the hem of his shirt tighter and tighter, but Silas never noticed his disappointment. Instead, he let out a relieved sigh and continued explaining.

"It's just one small favor for Julia. It's not a big deal.

"We'll have plenty of chances to travel together in the future. Luke, what do you say?"

He had no idea that this was the last chance he would ever have to make it up to this family.

Tomorrow, Luke and I would be gone forever.

Neither of us said a word. We simply nodded quietly.

"Okay."

Silas visibly relaxed, and a relieved smile finally appeared on his face.

"Then let's meet at the entrance to Moonshadow Park at one this afternoon. I'll let Julia know right away."

He turned around and walked away after saying that.

Just before leaving, he paused and looked back.

"Elena, Luke, you're both wonderful."

Neither of us replied to him.

Only after his footsteps had completely faded away did Luke open his wardrobe and retrieve the small backpack he had already packed.

"Mom, I don't want to see Alpha anymore. Can we leave sooner than we planned?"

I gently rubbed his head.

"Yes. I've already rescheduled our flight. We're leaving this afternoon."

Luke eagerly tore away the wrapping. There was a brand-new game console inside. It was even more beautiful than the previous one, and it was decorated with elegant designs.A single sentence was engraved on the box.[For my beloved pup, Luke. I will love you forever.]Silas looked at Luke with gentle affection and said softly, "I'm sorry, Luke. I kept promising to play with you, but I never kept my word in the past. From now on, let's play together, okay?"Holding the console tightly, Luke's tears fell onto the box.Silas then walked over to me. He went down on one knee and opened the navy velvet box. There was a moonstone ring that shimmered softly beneath the light inside."Elena."He looked up at me. Only genuine remorse and unwavering determination remained in his eyes."I know I made countless unforgivable mistakes in the past. I neglected you and our pup. I left the two of you to endure endless waiting and disappointment."I don't dare ask you to forgive me immediately,

"Silas!"The moment Julia saw Silas, she burst into tears."Look at how they're treating me! I only wanted you to come back to us! I only wanted Aiden to have a father!"Silas looked at her firmly."I've told you before. I feel nothing for you except a sense of responsibility."If you continue harassing my Luna and my pup, I'll immediately end every form of assistance beyond my obligation and petition the Council of Elders to take action against your act of harassment."Julia stared at him in disbelief."You can't do this to me! My mate died saving you! How can you be so ungrateful?"Silas remained silent for a long moment before speaking softly."Over the years, I've provided you with the best living conditions. I've resolved every challenge you faced. I've fulfilled every responsibility I owed."Disgust and exhaustion filled his eyes."But taking responsibility doesn't mean sacrificing my mate and my pup. Leave, and don't appear before us again."Looking into Silas' unwav

Silas stood where he was as he watched Luke and me walk away.Only after we disappeared at the end of the corridor did he slowly sink to the ground. He covered his face with his long fingers as quiet sobs escaped him. From that day on, Silas appeared outside the healer's den every single day. Each morning, he would wait by the entrance and ask the guards to pass a cream cake to me.Each evening, he would wait outside the healer's den. After my shift ended, he would follow from a distance to make sure I returned home safely before quietly turning around and leaving. He no longer tried to approach me. He also stopped trying to force Luke to accept him again. He simply watched over us from afar. He was like a guardian who had lost the right to stand by our side but still refused to leave.I never accepted his cakes. I also never voluntarily spoke to him.But I knew Luke noticed everything. One night, I got up to head to the kitchen and found Luke standing quietly by the window. H

Back in his room, Silas opened a drawer and retrieved a photograph. It was taken on Luke's seventh birthday.Luke was running under the sun with a paper airplane in his hand. He was smiling so brightly that the entire picture seemed to come alive.Silas reached out and gently touched Luke's face in the photo. At last, tears streamed down his face.He recalled how Luke used to cling to his leg. Luke would call him Dad in that sweet, childish voice and beg him to tell stories and play with him. Each time, Silas would answer the same way."I still have work to do. I'll play with you next time."Silas would then leave the hopeful little pup with me.He had always believed Luke would wait forever. What he forgot was that no matter how much hope a pup carried for his father, it would eventually fade with each passing disappointment.Six months later, Silvermoon Pack and the neutral territory reached a cooperative agreement to jointly develop a new healing potion. As Alpha, Silas pe
