~~Oriana’s Pov~~

My feet tapped involuntarily on the floors, making a sharp annoying sound that was getting on my nerves but somehow I could not get myself to stop.

I walked to the waiting desk once more, “Excuse me,” I motioned to the tan middle aged man looking that couldn't seem to stop stealing glances at me every five minutes.

“Yes ma'am” he shone his yellow thirty sets at me, I almost gagged.

I slammed my ID down on the desk, “May I know why I've been waiting for a bail I posted for the past two hours? Standard procedure said forty five minutes to an hour did it not? Why am I not being attended to?”

My voice grew colder and harder the more I spoke, something I had learnt dealing with different kinds of clients in court.

His face paled, his gaze turned respectful “we'll get to you as soon as possible ma'am” he straightened his back, adopting a more respectful stance and tone.

I rolled my eyes, “you do just that. And I would like your Badge number too. You'll be hearing from me soon” so much for keeping a low profile.

His mouth opened, shock filtering across his pupils, obviously he hadn't expected me to take things far, well since I had already revealed my identity I might as well go all the way.

“Cassandra Williams, Now” I ordered, not giving him the chance to recover.

“Yes ma'am” he rushed, his tail between his legs.

Sigh.

I finally sat, it was the same experience everywhere I went, no one took a pretty faced blonde with full tits seriously until they were behind bars. This was no different.

The sound of metal clanking and footsteps drew me out of my thoughts, soon my Cassie came in view, “finally” I muttered.

He uncuffed her, “stay away from trouble miss” His tone was measured, gentle and professional, well it was too late any way.

“Yeah, yeah,” Cassie rolled her eyes, I could tell she was holding back a sharper retort. Classic Cassandra, she never learnt.

“Good.” I nodded, satisfied, then turned to the officer, “Officer Brad” I read his name tag, “Thank you. Expect to hear from my office for your hospitality” my voice was clipped,

His smile faltered, I could feel the fear in his eyes finally set, “I apologize sincerely for any inconvenience,” he said through gritted teeth.

“And I apologize for any future inconveniences.” I replied back unhesitatingly.

“And you” I pointed at Cassie, she dodged my eyes, lowering her eyes to the ground, a move she always pulled whenever she wanted to get away with something. “Follow.” I snapped and walked away without waiting for my response.

The sound of slow footsteps behind me accompanied the clanking of my heels, a wave of fresh morning air hit my face, it carried with it the scent of saltwater, algae, dust and that historic air of a crowded street. A far cry from the town where I came from, where everybody knew everybody.

I increased my pace, leaving Cassie to run after me, soon a hand tugged at the helm of my jacket, I ignored it, but insistent as ever it continued.

“What?” I snapped, stopping to finally face her

She raised her eyes pleadingly, eyes wet and puffy, tears already pooling at them, “I’m sorry” she sniffed.

“One hour, just one hour in Venice and you're already causing trouble?” I chided.

“He started it,” she mumbled.

“Stop fucking talking” I pinched my brows, sometimes I felt more like a mother than a friend.

She nodded,

“And stop looking at me like that. We both know you aren't even remorseful about your actions”

She pursed her lips, her body began trembling, like she was aggrieved, “if he hadn't taken my phone I wouldn't have reacted” she muttered under her breath.

“What have I told you about the law? Report to me or any other authority, who in their right senses fights with a police officer?”

I practically yelled, my head already aching from the stress, “you know what. I was the one that brought you with me to Venice, stay away from trouble Cassie. I just used two hours of my time to bail you out, I have a court case in a few and I can't concentrate if you keep getting yourself arrested”

“Sorry.” She mumbled, “He started it, I never look for trouble, doesn't mean I won't be ready if it comes searching for me”

I sighed, “This isn't the village Cass, I need you to remember that, this is the heart of it all. The heart of all the crimes, I can't protect you if you really keep this attitude up” my voice lowered.

Her expression turned serious, “I can protect myself” she scoffed.

“Says the girl who got chased by a chicken” I teased

“Chickens are different” her body shuddered.

“What will I do with you?” I eyed her.

Her arms wrapped around me, squeezing me tightly, “Uhh, get off of me”

“No. Not until you say you've forgiven me” she whined childishly.

“Okay. Okay. Get off me, you'll stain my outfit.” I groaned.

“Alright. Only because you're going to court and I don't want to dim your shine.” she smiled.

I chuckled, stopping in front of a court house, “And this is my final bus stop. Stay out of trouble. I'm serious, and get ready we're leaving tomorrow” I warned seriously.

“Whatever you say mum. Cross my heart,” she giggled. “Go crush those bastards,” she yelled.

“You got it best” I smiled and walked into the court house, head held high.

*****Evening Time*****

My shoulders ached, I walked out barefoot, holding my heels on my left hand. The moon hung low on the night sky, my mind wandered, I walked down the street.

The night light illuminated the streets, lost in thoughts I didn't realize when the crowd thinned, by the time I came to, I was already in an alley.

I spotted four silhouettes, standing in the shadows, and a fifth kneeling before them.

Bang.

The body of the fifth slumped, a scream tore through my lips, four pairs of eyes locked onto me.

“Get her” a cold voice said, my feet moved faster than I could think.

That was the last thing I remembered before everywhere blurred.

~~Author’s pov~~“Oriana!”The shout ripped out of him sharp enough that she reacted before understanding why, her body turning toward him—Gunfire exploded through the parking lot.Too loud.“Ahhhhhhh.” Oriana screamed.Something slammed into her shoulder hard enough to spin her sideways.Pain detonated instantly.White-hot.Blinding.She hit the concrete with a broken sound caught somewhere between shock and air leaving her lungs. The world tilted violently.Another gunshot.Damien was suddenly above her, dragging her behind a car as bullets cracked against metal.“Shit—shit—”His hands grabbed her face quickly.“Oriana. Look at me.”She could barely hear him properly. Her shoulder burned. No—not burned.Tore.Like someone had shoved fire straight through flesh. Her breath came fast and uneven.“I’ve got you,” Damien said sharply. “Stay with me.”Blood soaked through the red silk disturbingly fast.Damien looked at the blood once and swore viciously under his breath. Then his entire

~~Author’s pov~~The underground parking lot smelled like gasoline and wet concrete.Their footsteps echoed sharply as Damien pulled her through rows of black cars, his grip tight around her wrist.Somewhere above them the gunfire was still going.Muted now.But close enough that every shot punched through Oriana’s chest anyway.“Keep moving,” Damien said. They rounded the corner between two SUVs.“Lì!” [Over there!]A voice cracked through the parking level.Damien’s head snapped up.Three men at the far entrance.Weapons already raised.Everything happened at once.Damien saw it first. His face changed instantly.“Oriana!”The shout ripped out of him sharp enough that she reacted before understanding why, her body turning toward him—Gunfire exploded through the parking lot.Too loud.“Ahhhhhhh.” Oriana screamed.****•••••****The first gunshot had told him this wasn’t random. The second told him exactly how organized it was.Not aimed at him. Not directly.Too messy for an assassin

~~Author’s pov~~She found Ciro near the center of the ballroom.Or maybe he found her. It's hard to tell with him sometimes. He was still speaking to the two men when she approached, whiskey glass still loose in one hand, with that same unreadable expression that made powerful men immediately start choosing their words more carefully around him.His eyes found her before she even reached him.Always that first.Always her first now.Something in his face shifted slightly as she came closer. Not softer.Just… focused. The two men noticed it too.Interesting.One of them smiled politely at Oriana, said something in Italian about beauty and luck and dangerous distractions, then wisely ended the conversation less than a minute later.Ciro watched them leave before looking down at her.“You disappeared.”“You allowed Violetta to kidnap me.”“That wasn’t permission.”Oriana rolled her eyes faintly.“You’re very controlling tonight.”His gaze moved over her slowly. The red dress.Bare shoul

~~Author’s pov~~The venue was on the other side of the city. They took cars, three of them, black and moving through Venice in a way that made traffic shift without anyone needing to ask.Oriana sat beside Ciro in the backseat of the middle car, the city sliding past in streaks of gold and water outside the tinted windows. His hand rested over her thigh. Not polite. Not accidental.Heavy enough that she felt the weight of it through the silk of the dress. His thumb moved once slowly against her leg while he looked out the window, distracted by whatever was already waiting for him tonight. The movement sent heat straight through her stomach.Possessive.Absent-mindedly possessive.Like touching her had become instinct. She looked down at his hand briefly.Long fingers. Scar near the knuckle. The black watch on his wrist catching light every time the car passed under a streetlamp.“You’re staring,” he said without looking at her.“You’re crushing my leg.”“That’s not true.”It absolute

~~Authour’s pov~~Cassie called the next morning.Oriana was still in bed when the phone rang. That rare morning where she had woken up slowly without immediately being ambushed by her own thoughts. She answered before the second ring.“Tell me you’re okay,” Cassie said.No hello. No preamble. Just that.“I’m okay,” Oriana said.“That was too fast,” Cassie said. “When people are actually okay they don’t say it that quickly.”Oriana pressed her lips together.“I’m okay Cassie,” she said again.Slower this time.A pause.“You sound different,” Cassie said.“I’ve been here a while,” Oriana said. “Things adjust.”“Things adjust,” Cassie repeated slowly.Like she was turning each word over individually.“Oria. You were kidnapped.”“I know.”“By a mafia king.”“I know Cassie.”“And now things are adjusting.”Oriana looked at the red rose on the windowsill.Four petals on the sill now.She hadn’t noticed the fourth one fall.“It’s complicated,” she said quietly. The silence that came from Ca

  • POSSESSED BY CIRO    Chapter 25

~~Author’s pov~~The next morning Venice woke up grey.Rain tapped softly against the windows. Not heavy enough to storm, just enough to blur the canal and turn the city quieter than usual.Oriana found Violetta already in the sitting room.Shoes off.Curled sideways on the sofa like she owned the place.Which, honestly, maybe she did a little.“There you are,” Violetta said, looking up from her coffee. “I was starting to think Conti finally scared you into hiding.”Oriana took the armchair opposite her.“That would require him to be frightening.”Violetta barked out a laugh.“Oh, I like you.”Nica appeared a moment later with tea for Oriana without needing to ask.Violetta watched this happen with interest.“She likes you too,” she said once Nica left.“Nica likes everyone.”“No,” Violetta said immediately. “She absolutely does not.”Oriana smiled into her tea.Rain filled the silence for a minute.Comfortable.Easy.Violetta stretched her legs across the sofa.“So,” she said, “there

~~Oriana~~Thinking, it turned out, was harder than it sounded.I had gone back inside after a while, walked up to my room, sat on the edge of the bed and stared at the wall. Which was not exactly productive but it was all I had for the first twenty minutes or so.“A boy on a bench”.I kept coming

  • POSSESSED BY CIRO    Chapter 11

~~Oriana~~I barely slept.I had been staring at the ceiling since about two in the morning, listening to the waters outside and having a very firm internal argument with myself about a man I had no business thinking about as much as I currently was.It wasn’t even like anything had happened. That

~~Oriana~~I’ve known about you longer than you’d think.Rosa’s words followed me all the way back upstairs.I turned them over in my head while Nica helped me into the dress Rosa had picked –a deep blue thing, fitted and simple, the kind that didn’t try too hard but still made a statement.I turne

  • POSSESSED BY CIRO    Chapter 5

~~Oriana~~I sat by the window sill, waiting patiently and watching, the day soon bled into night. My stomach grumbled violently. The door clicked open, footsteps entered. More than one this time, I ignored them.“Mistress, your food” a polite voice said from behind.I finally turned, and came fac
