TANYA'S POV

Gideon's fingers slid inside me, and I gasped, arching my back as waves of pleasure rolled through my body. His thumb continued to circle my clit while his fingers worked magic inside me, and I felt myself getting wetter by the second.

"You're so responsive," he murmured against my neck, his hot breath sending shivers down my spine. "I love how your body reacts to my touch."

I couldn't form words anymore. All I could do was moan and writhe beneath him as he brought me closer and closer to the edge. Kenneth had never made me feel like this, never took his time, never focused on my pleasure.

It was always quick, rushed, like he was doing me a favor.

But Gideon? He was worshipping my body like it was the only thing that mattered in the world.

"Come for me," he whispered, increasing his pace. "Let me hear you, baby."

And I did. I came so hard I saw stars, my legs trembling as I cried out his name. He didn't stop until every last wave of pleasure had passed through me, then slowly withdrew his fingers and brought them to his lips, sucking

them clean while maintaining eye contact.

"Delicious," he said with that signature smirk.

Before I could catch my breath, he was pulling off his jersey, revealing a body that looked like it was carved from stone. Abs, muscles, golden skin, everything about him screamed perfection. My wolf purred in approval, and for once, I agreed with her completely.

He reached for his belt, and I watched as he undid it slowly, his eyes never leaving mine. There was something intense about the way he looked at me, like I was the only person in the world that mattered right now.

"You're beautiful, Tanya," he said softly, and the way he said my name made my heart skip. "Kenneth is a fool for letting you go."

Hearing Kenneth's name should have hurt, should have reminded me of the betrayal I'd just witnessed. But

Somehow, in this moment, with Gideon looking at me like I was precious, the pain felt distant.

He positioned himself between my legs, and I felt him pressing against my entrance. My heart was racing, my wolf was howling with excitement, and every nerve in my body was on fire.

"Last chance to back out," he said, his voice strained with restraint.

I looked up at him, at this gorgeous senior who was Kenneth's rival, who was supposed to be a player, who was supposed to be all wrong for me. And I made my decision.

"I'm not backing out."

He entered me slowly, and I gasped at the sensation. He paused, giving me time to adjust, his forehead resting against mine.

"You okay?" he asked softly, genuine concern in his voice.

I nodded, unable to speak. He started to move, and every thrust sent pleasure coursing through my body. I

found myself meeting his movements, our bodies finding a rhythm together.

"Gideon," I moaned, digging my nails into his back.

The bed creaked beneath us, and I wrapped my legs around his waist, pulling him deeper. This was nothing like what I'd experienced with Kenneth. This was raw, passionate, consuming.

He kissed me deeply as he moved inside me. I could feel another climax building, stronger than the first one.

"I'm close," I gasped against his lips.

"Me too, baby," he groaned.

A few more thrusts and I shattered, crying out his name as pleasure exploded through every nerve in my body.

He followed seconds later, pulling out just in time. We collapsed onto the bed together, both of us breathing heavily.

My body felt like jelly, completely spent and satisfied. Gideon pulled me close, wrapping his arms around me protectively.

"That was incredible," he whispered against my hair.

I nodded, too exhausted to speak. My wolf was purring contentedly, and for the first time since catching

Kenneth, with Lara, I felt something other than pain.

"Stay the night," Gideon said softly. "Leave in the morning before anyone notices."

I should have said no. But his bed was warm, his arms were strong, and I was too tired to care about the

consequences.

"Okay," I whispered.

He pulled a blanket over us, and I closed my eyes. My phone was probably blowing up with calls and texts from Jess and Gina, but I didn't care. Tomorrow I would deal with Kenneth, with Lara, with Mrs Big Belly and

whatever punishment awaited me.

But tonight? Tonight I belonged to Gideon.

I was almost asleep when my wolf stirred in my head.

'He feels different,' she said softly. 'His wolf calls to ours.'

I frowned internally. 'What do you mean?'

'I don't know yet. But something about him feels... right.'

Before I could question her further, sleep finally claimed me.

I don't know how long I slept, maybe an hour, maybe two. But I was jolted awake by loud banging on the door.

"Gideon Blackwood!" A familiar voice boomed from outside. "Open this door right now! We know you have a female student in there!"

My blood ran cold. I sat up immediately, my heart pounding. Gideon was already awake, his jaw clenched as he stared at the door.

That was Mr. Henderson, the boys' dorm master. The strictest, most unforgiving staff member in the entire

college. Getting caught by him meant automatic expulsion.

"Gideon, what do we do?" I whispered frantically, scrambling to find my clothes in the darkness.

Before he could answer, another voice joined Mr. Henderson's. A voice that made my stomach drop and my blood boil at the same time.

"I told you he was with someone," Kenneth said smugly from outside the door. "Probably some desperate

freshman who doesn't know any better."

The banging got louder. "Gideon! Open this door, or I'm using my master key!"

I looked at Gideon in panic, half-dressed with my skirt in my hands. His face was calm, but his eyes were

calculating.

"The window," he whispered, pointing to the small window near his bed. "You can climb out and go around to the back entrance."

"Are you crazy? We're on the second floor!"

"There's a ledge. I've used it before." He was already pulling on his pants. "Hurry, Tanya. Go now before he

opens that door."

"Ten seconds, Gideon!" Mr. Henderson shouted. "Ten, nine, eight..."

My hands were shaking as I pulled on my skirt. I could hear Kenneth's voice again, saying something I couldn't make out, but his tone was mocking.

That bastard. He'd cheated on me with my best friend, and now he was trying to get me expelled?

"Seven, six, five..."

Gideon grabbed my arm gently but firmly. "Tanya, go. Now."

"What about you?"

"I'll handle this. Just go!"

"Four, three, two..."

I ran to the window, my heart in my throat. Gideon helped me climb out onto the ledge just as I heard the sound of a key turning in the lock.

"One! I'm coming in!"

The door burst open just as I dropped down from the ledge onto the ground below, landing hard on my ankle.

Pain shot through my leg, but I bit my lip to keep from crying out.

Above me, I could hear Mr. Henderson's angry voice. "Where is she, Gideon? We saw her come in here with

you!"

"I don't know what you're talking about, sir," Gideon said calmly. "I've been alone all night."

"That's a lie!" Kenneth's voice was sharp. "I saw them together at the bar! Search the room, Mr. Henderson!"

I pressed myself against the wall, my heart pounding. My ankle was throbbing, but I couldn't stop. I had to get back to my dorm before anyone else saw me.

I limped quickly through the shadows, staying close to the buildings to avoid the security lights. Every step sent pain shooting up my leg, but I pushed through it.

Just as I turned the corner near the girls' dorm, I ran straight into someone.

"Tanya?"

I looked up to find Lara standing there, her arms crossed and a nasty smile on her face.

"Well, well, well," she said, looking me up and down, taking in my disheveled appearance and the way I was

favoring my left leg. "Looks like someone had an interesting night. Does Kenneth know you've already moved on

to his rival?"

TANYA'S POVThe kettle started the way it always did, a low hum building toward something, patient about the processI was standing at the counter in the early morning dark, the way I'd stood at another counter in another year, in a graduate student block kitchen with a single window and linoleum that never looked clean regardless of effort. That morning I'd been waiting for tea and not thinking about anything in particular, and the mechanism hypothesis had arrived unbidden, complete, like something that had been waiting for me to stop looking directly at it.This morning I was just waiting for tea.The revelations were in the papers on the shelf. This was just Tuesday.I poured the water, let the tea steep, and carried the cup to my desk. The fourth-phase study design was open where I'd left it the night before the question Cormac had asked in the first year of the study, sitting at the measurement station with his hands loose in his lap: can people move, and do the cellular metrics

TANYA'S POVMax went first. He stood up without notes, which I'd told him not to do, and looked at the room with the particular expression of someone who has rehearsed something and then decided at the last second to say the other thing instead."When we were kids," he said, "Tanya used to carry a notebook everywhere. Not for school. Just …a notebook. She'd write down things she noticed. Patterns. The way certain situations kept producing the same outcomes. My mother thought it was sweet. Our father thought it was concerning." He paused. "They were both right. What it actually was was research. She's been doing research her whole life. She just didn't have a lab yet."He looked at me then, and his voice shifted still steady, but the steadiness of someone holding something carefully rather than easily."The girl I drove to Moonstone two years ago was hiding," he said. "Behind the glasses and the gothic friends and the boy who kept her a secret because he couldn't stand to share her but

GIDEON'S POVLiam had stopped doing the thing with his watch approximately thirty seconds before the ceremony started, which I took as evidence that everything was running on schedule. We were standing at the front of the hall, the same hall where I'd taken the Alpha seal six weeks ago, rearranged now, the formal council configuration replaced with something warmer, rows of chairs, flowers at the ends of the aisles, light coming through the high windows at the angle it only achieved on clear May mornings. "She's at the door," Liam said quietly, without looking at me."I know," I said."Stop calculating and just look."I stopped calculating.Max came through the door first, and beside him, Tanya.I have tried to find the right language for the moment, and I don't think there is a version that isn't smaller than the actual thing. So I'll say it plainly: she looked like herself. The most exact, complete version of herself I had seen in any room at any point in the past year, not dress

TANYA'S POVThe dress was ivory, which I had not expected to choose and then had chosen immediately when I saw it, because it was simple in the specific way that meant it had been made by someone who understood that simple is harder than complicated and did it anyway.I was standing in front of the mirror in the room the pack's formal venue had set aside for the wedding party, and the room was fuller than it had any right to be at nine in the morning.Gina was doing something precise and determined to the back of my hair, which she had been doing for twenty minutes and which was apparently not finished. Jess, not Jess, the old Jess who had turned out to be something else entirely, but Gina had brought a friend from home who also happened to be named Jess and who had been confused about why this required explanation, was sitting on the window seat working through the flower arrangements with the focus of someone who had been given a task and intended to complete it correctly. Max was

GIDEON'S POVI'd been carrying the ring for three weeks. Not because I couldn't find the moment. Because I kept finding moments that were almost right and then understanding, on reflection, that almost right wasn't what this deserved. The dinner where the restaurant was too loud. The walk by the boundary fields where it started raining in the specific way that would have made the whole thing a story about the rain instead of a story about us. The evening in the lab after Elias left when I'd had the ring in my jacket pocket and Tanya had been so deep in the baseline assessment revision that pulling her out of it would have felt like an interruption rather than an arrival.I wanted it to be an arrival. On a Tuesday morning in May I got up at six thirty, walked to the south road before the blue awning place had been open for an hour, ordered two medium roasts and told them it was for the Research Wing, and carried both cups to the library.Second floor. GIDEON'S POVThe ceremony was in the morning, which I hadn't expected. I'd imagined it at night somehow, the ceremonial lighting, the formal darkness. But my father's transition had been at ten in the morning, and the Alpha council kept precedent where it could, and so at nine fifty-five I was standing in the anteroom of the pack's formal assembly hall in a jacket I'd last worn to a council dinner, listening to the building fill up on the other side of the wall.Liam was beside me, straightening his own jacket unnecessarily."You've been ready for this for eight months," he said"I know," I said."Then stop doing the thing with your jaw.""I'm not doing anything with my jaw.""You're clenching it. You've been clenching it since the car. It's the same thing you do before a council session when you've prepared extensively and are still convinced something will go wrong.""Something could go wrong."Nothing is going to go wrong," Liam said. "Your mother is already seated. The council is
