"Let me run a bath for you. You can relax and take all the time you want. I'll go find some clothes and leave them on the bed for you." Etta pushed up from the bed and headed towards the bathroom.

"Thank you, Etta. No one has been this nice to me in year. I still can't believe you are real." Annalise said shyly.

"You'd better believe it! Just wait until you meet the rest of the family. They are going to love you." Her bright, sing song voice was slightly muffled under the noise of the running water.

A short while later, Etta reappeared. "All ready. I wasn't sure what kind of bubblebath you would like so I picked one that matches your scent." She smiled and made her way to leave. "See you later, Bestie." She sang as she left.

Annalise limped to the bathroom. The bubbles were almost to the lip of the tub, so invting. She gingerly stripped off the pyjamas and unwound the bandage from her knee.

Lifting her bad leg first, she balanced on her song one. The heat of the water instantly soothing the ache. Slipping in fully, she couldn't help but sigh deeply.

Annalise was surrounded by steam and the smell of honey and orange blossoms, matching her scent perfectly.

She ducked under the water and lathered up her chestnut hair. It was long and matted. She shampooed and conditioned twice.

Annalise felt a little silly just lying there. Usually, bathing had to be quick and economical in the cold stream. Now she splashed and scooped up a handful of foam, blowing them as far as she could.

Relaxing back, she closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep. Suddenly, she was back on the cliffs edge, Jasons hand painfully gripping her wrist, his sneering face in front of hers and then she was falling.

She woke herself, flailing and splashing in the now cold water. Breathing heavily, it took a long minute for her to realise where she was.

Standing up, she reached for a towel. Her frame was so slight that it nearly wrapped around her twice. Once she felt it was secure, she grabbed a small one and put her hair up into a turban.

Annalise stepped out and pulled the plug, making her way back through to the bedroom. As promised, Etta had laid some clothes on the bed for her.

She dried off quickly and pulled on the new underwear and leggings. There wasn't any fresh bandages for her knee but she felt like she didn't really need them anymore. The swelling had all but gone. She then slipped on the green vest top and an oversized light grey hoodie.

Annalise had to fold the sleeves up twice so that she could use her hands. Sitting at the vanity, she towel dried her hair carefully and worked out all the tangles and matts with a brush she found in the drawer.

By the time Annalise had finished, her hair flowed midway down her back, falling in natural waves, shinier than she had ever remembered seeing it.

Feeling at a loss of what to do with herself, down time having never been a luxury afforded to her before now, Annalise lay back down on the bed, staring at the ceiling until her eyes felt heavy again.

The air around her whipped her hair across her face, legs struggling to hold her weight. The wolves from Cold Claw had found her.

She faced them down. Jason gripped hertightly. The ground cracked beneath her and once again she was falling.

"Anna! Anna! Wake up!" Etta was holding on to her arms as she struggled and writhed back to consciousness. Evenually, she stilled but her breathing remained rapid, eyes wild.

"Shh, Shh, it was just a nightmare. You're safe." Etta cooed gently, brushing her hair hair off her sweat slicked forehead.

For the first time, Annalise actually initiated physical contact, sitting up and hugging her friend tightly. "Not a nightmare...a memory." Annalise panted, still holding on for dear life.

"I've got you, Anna. You're not there anymore. You will never have to go back ther.Do you hear me? Never."There was a fierce protectiveness in Etta's voice that brought tears to Annalise's eyes.

"Dry those eyes, Bestie. You can't meet my parents like this. They'll think I did this because they will love you instantly." She feigned indignation.

This made Annalise huff out a small laugh. Releasing her death like grip, she wiped her face on the sleeves that were covering her hands.

"I'm nervous. what if they decide to send me back?" Ettas mock offended changed into one of disbelief.

"Pu-lease! That won't happen. my parents have been pacing around, anxious to meet you. I hope you do not mind but I gave them the cliff notes of what you told me happened to you." She looked worried, but deep down, Annalise didn't want to keep retelling her story.

"It's okay. I am okay. I'll go wash my face then I'll be ready to meet my Bestie's family." Etta squealed in delight.

"We'll go down for dinner. Nothing formal" Etta tugged on Annalise's arm, taking her with her off the bed and towards the door.

Soren pulled away first. "The sooner I leave, the sooner I will be back Little Wolf."Annalise nodded. She didn't want him to go. These feelings were confusing for her. For the briefest of moments she imagined this is how she should have felt about Jason. After he left, Annalise went and showered. Wrapping herself in a towel she stood looking through the wardrobe for something to wear. Since her parents had passed, she only ever had a couple of tatty options, now she had an entire closet at her disposal. Touching all the items, relishing their soft materials, she opted for a pair of black skinny jeans and a deep forest green wrap around top with 3/4 sleeves. It was looser on her than it should be because of how thin she was but hopefully she would be able to put some weight on now thst she wassn't being starved. Soren had mindlinked Etta and his parents to ask them if they wanted to have breakfast with Annalise and him. When they readily agreed, he suggested that they eat i

"Goo...good morning." Annalise stuttered. 'Oh, just kill me now.' She thought as she spoke. Cyan was laughing hard, if she could, she'd be slapping her thigh. Crimson faced, Annalise pushed up from his chest. "I need to...go." There was a spark of humour in his eyes but he didn't try to stop her as she scurried out of the bed and ran as fast as she was able to the bathroom. The door slammed behind her and she fell against her. "I. Am. Such. An. Idiot." Annalise muttered as she banged the back of her head off the door emphasising each word. She had been in such a rush to escape the Adonis, that she didn't think to take clothes with her so she could shower. She would have to go back out there. 'Do it!' Cyan spurred Annalise on. 'Get back out there so we can see Adonis.' Snickering followed the wolf's playful words. Annalise groaned and pushed away from the door, she gave her hands a shake, took a deep breath then yanked open the barrier between her and the sweet man that

Sorens POV I needed to clear my head. I went up to my room, stripped off my dirty, bloody clothes and entered the shower. I stayed under the spray until the water went cold. My mind was still racing. I got out, quickly dried off and threw on some workout clothes. I stuck in my earbuds and went to the gym. It was empty, thank Goddess. My mind wandered as I did some warm-up stretches. the image of the little wolf lying broken on the ground, the feel of her, weightless in my arms. The immediate protectiveness I felt towards her. This is exactly what I was trying to distract myself from. Shaking out my arms and legs, I started on the treadmill, barely jogging for a few minutes before ramping up the speed. The rhythm of steady running was working. I kept running, not really noticing as the songs in my ears changed as beads of sweat started forming on my forehead. I kept pushing until it hurt to breathe. Slowing back to a stop, I didn't bother with the cool down, jumping off and

Sorens POV I had been trying to avoid the packhouse since finding that girl. She was so close to death that I almost left her, almost. Then she moaned, if it wassn't for enhanced senses, I would've missed it. Atlas, my wolf's ears had perked up at the noise, 'We have to help the little wolf.' He urged me closer to her, the smell of blood was overpowering everything else. I tried to pickher up as carefully as possible, but at 6' 5", I'm not exactly graceful. She weighed the sum of nothing. I could feel her bones through the torn rags that she was wearing. I suppose rags wasn't fair, it was clear that they had been mended many times over and looked after as best as she could. Atlas was acting strangely. He had never taken as much interest in a she-wolf before. He's even given her a nickname?! I mindlinkied the pack doctor to let them know what was happening before abandoning the rest of the patrol to take her to safety. The other wolf scents that had alerted us were startin

  • Past Life   Chapter 7. Needing help.

Everything happened all at once. Several hands landed on Annalise all at once. She was too far gone in her despair. "NO! NO! Let me go, I'm sorry!" She was blinded by her panic. She curled herself into a small ball, shielding her face with her arms. "Hands off, NOW!" another deep voice growled. Annalise felt all the pressure leave her, quickly replaced by two strong arms, one around her shoulders and the other under her knees. Annalise fought as she was pressed against a solid wall of muscle. "Stop fighting, little wolf. No one here is going to hurt you. You're safe." The muscle wall was trying to calm her. Slowly, she stopped struggling. Breathing heavily through the last last throws of her panic attack. Sounds from all around her were filtering into her consciousness. Etta sobbing loudly. Killian and Stella trying to console their daughter. Annalise became acutely aware that she was still wrapped protectively in the arms of another stranger. An absolute mountain of a muscl

  • Past Life   Chapter 6. Meeting the parents.

Anna's POV We made our way down a corridor, light and welcoming, paintings spaced along the walls. I wanted to stop and study each one but Etta was still holding my hand, urging me to ollow. At he end of the hall, Etta turned to the left which opened out onto a sweeping staircase with a pale wooden bannister and a dark green runner down the centre. Etta continued to pull me along, chatting happily but I didn't hear a word of it. The closer we got to her family, the more nervous I became. On the last step, I stopped dead. The abruptness of it yanked Etta backwards. " Woah! What the hell Anna?!" It was almost comical watching Etta's left foot lifting into the air, her arms flailing, releasing my hand in the process. "Sorry! I just...I just don't know if I can do this." I started tapping my thumb and forefinger together, a habit I picked up to control my anxieties. "Let's just go say hi. If you want to go back to your room at anytime you can, no one will stop you." Etta caug
