LENA'S POV

I retrieved the letter from my pillow, unfolded it and read the lines over and over in my head until I memorised every ink.

The realization sat like a stone in my stomach as I folded the paper back. I didn't tell Jax about the letter.

"Come home, daughter, your real father is waiting...."

The words refused to leave my head.

Everything inside me screamed that I should show him, Jax would know what to do, he would be able to protect me.

But what if Jax was lying? The thought of it al

RAVENS POV The fire from the monastery was still burning when I carried Len out. My body was weak because I hadn't slept in days but I forced myself to be strong. There was blood under my nails, some of the cultist blood and maybe mine. I couldn’t tell anymore. I was shocked to see Kingshade men were everywhere including Backthorn men too. I thought I would have to fight my way out while protecting Lena at the same time, but some soldiers who didn't look like they belonged in the cult came up and killed the cult members trying to get to us. Relief washed through me as I picked Lena in my arms and allowed the soldiers to lead us out. Nobody was talking when we got out, they were cheering. And from what it looked like, they had taken down the cult leader. As soon as I emerged, all heads turned toook at me. Healers suddenly ran towards me with stretchers. They had come prepared to take the cult down and rescue Lena. They took her gently from me and set her down on the grass

  • RISE OF THE BIKER QUEEN: Her protector, Her ruin   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FOUR

CALLUM POVI crossed into Blackthorn land with 200 men and my silver banners high in the sky. If I was going to start a war, I was going to do it in daylight. The Blackthorn gates were already open for me to enter. Dante was standing in the yard looking worse than I remembered. He was thinner, older and with one arm in a sling. But his eyes were the same.Jax was behind him, leaning on two guards. He was still pale, but alive. My men stopped then Dante stepped forward. I did too. We stared at each other for a long second reminiscing long years of fighting. Then we both reached out, our hand clasped in a from handshake. It felt wrong like I was shaking hands with a wolf.“Callum,” Dante said. His voice was rough. “Dante,” I said back.We both looked disgusted. Good. That meant we were honest.“Terms are terms,” I said. “Where is she?”“The monastery,” Dante said. “Three hours north.” he said simply. "Let's head there right away then." I said. Jax pushed off the guards. “I’m

  • RISE OF THE BIKER QUEEN: Her protector, Her ruin   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY THREE

LENA'S POVWeeks....that was all it took for the stone walls to start feeling home and for the chains to stop hurting. I had stopped counting the number of days I was in here. The cult said this was my transformation. They said the blood in the basin, the chanting, the cold water, the knives was all to wake me up and to make me what I was supposed to be.And it worked. I could feel things now I never felt before. The heat in the torches. The fear in the guards’ hearts before they even walk in. The hum of the mountain under my feet. I could feel power sitting under my skin like fire, but the other part of me... the part that laughed with Jax and the part that used to cry at sad songs...that part was getting quieter like someone was turning down the volume, little by little until soon there will be nothing left. When the door scraped open, I didn’t look up because I thought it was just another cult member walking in and another offering they wanted me to bless. The footsteps slowed

  • RISE OF THE BIKER QUEEN: Her protector, Her ruin   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY TWO

DANTE'S POVI was standing at the gates of the packhouse, I hadn't slept in days nor had I eaten in days. My ribs still hurt from where the cult leader’s men kicked me, and my shoulder was wrapped in dirty cloth. But none of that mattered because now Jax was driving through the gates alone. He stepped out of the car, looking worse than before. He looked terrible. His face was pale. His shirt was soaked with blood. I didn't have the time to yell out his name before he slumped to the side like he could barely hold himself up. Two guards ran to catch him the moment he got out. “Jax!” I shouted, my voice cracking. He lifted his head and his eyes found mine. I saw relief there then guilt.“Father,” he whispered.I grabbed his shoulders. He was burning up with fever. “You idiot. You absolute idiot. You left in this condition after what they did to you.”He tried to smile, it didn’t work. “I had to,” he said. “...for Lena, Father.”His words hit me like a punch to the gut. I pulled

CALLUM POVJax had already collapsed on the floor and two of my guards had to drag him in. His shirt and pants were soaked down with blood and there was now fresh blood leaking out with fever sweat on his face. I leaned back on my throne, taking a slow sip of wine and then I laughed because after so many years of war, fate had finally cornered Dante and now he sent his son to me. “Close the doors,” I said, my voice resounding across the room. “I want everyone out except the healer. And you, Jax.” I pointed. The hall emptied instantly as the doors boomed shut. Jax was on his knees now, looking up at me. His eyes were glassy but sharp, he was still fighting. “Callum,” he rasped. “I need you to do something quick. Please...”“Start from the beginning,” I cut him off. I poured a second cup of wine. I didn’t offer it to him. “Tell me everything. Don’t leave out the ugly parts.”He stared at me like I’d struck him. “You don’t understand. They have her. They killed...”“Jax.” I set the

JAX'S POV The wound pulled every time the car hit a pothole on the road. I told the healer it was just a graze. I told Father I’d rest. I told myself the fever was nothing but they were all lies. The bandage under my shirt was soaked through again. I could feel it, warm and sticky against my ribs. If I stopped to check it, I wouldn’t get back on. So I didn’t stop. Kingshade was two hours ahead, maybe three. Father would kill me if he knew. “You’re not fit to drive, Jax. You’re not fit to beg. Let me handle it.” Handle it, right. Handle it meant sending only letters and it meant waiting and playing by the treaty Callum signed few months ago. Treaties don’t save people. Lena was already gone and if we wasted anymore time, she would be dead. I didn't know how long her body could hold up for until she was completely drained. The night air cut through my coat. My breath came out in white clouds and in sharp, wet bursts. Each inhale was like a knife cutting through my. I p
