Astrid’s POV

Silence stretched long enough that I thought I’d overstepped. Then Mara smiled all toothy like she’s been refraining herself.

“I think we can do that.” she beamed.

Helena looked like she wanted to argue but finally nodded once. “As the Luna wishes.”

“Just Astrid when we’re in private. Please.”

“That would be highly irregular.” Helena started looking confused at the request.

“But not forbidden?” I pushed gently.

Another pause. “Not forbidden.”

“Then that’s what I’d prefer.” I turne

Astrid’s POVThe kiss was not the type that feels like asking. It was sure in the way he was certain about everything important. His hand was warm at the back of my neck and his other hand found my waist, pulling me the remaining distance between us that had been the longest and shortest distance I’d ever crossed.I kissed him back with everything I’ve been holding back for weeks. All the almost moments and charged silences and the way his voice in my head during training had felt more intimate than most things I’d actually said out loud. His hand in my hair, my fingers curled in the fabric of his shirt, both of us standing barefoot in a kitchen at midnight while the palace slept around us.When we finally pulled back we didn’t go far. His forehead rested against mine, his breathing not quite steady and I thought with some satisfaction that it was very good to know I wasn’t the only one affected.“Tomorrow is the council though” I said against his mouth.“Tomorrow but right now—”He

  • Reborn As The True Luna   One hundred & nine

Astrid’s POVThe night before the hearing I couldn’t stay in my room. I tried but only lay on top of the covers fully dressed while the palace settled into quiet around me, staring at the ceiling while my mind ran through everythingCouncil arguments. Evidence documents. The names of three independent laboratories I’d memorized until they lived in my sleep. Skylar’s expression in that small office when I’d refused her partnership. The way Lance had looked at me across the Council chamber like I was an obstacle to be removed. My father’s medallion is heavy and warm against my chest. At midnight I gave up, pulled on a gray cardigan over my clothes and went to the only place in the palace that felt like mine now. The kitchen.I wasn’t hungry. I just needed somewhere familiar and quiet. I put the kettle on out of habit and stood at the counter in the dim light, looking out the window at the palace gardens below. Everything was silver and shadow, the moon high and full above the treeline.

Astrid’s POV“I was seventeen. He was twenty-one and I thought I was the best fighter in my region.” Ian grinned at the memory. “He put me on the ground in about four seconds flat then helped me up and asked me if I wanted to actually learn. Spent the next six months training me personally.”“Why are you telling me this?”“Because you remind me of that kid.” He looked at me properly, no teasing in his expression now. “Someone with real ability who’s been operating below their potential because circumstances didn’t allow anything else. Watching you these past few days—” he shook his head. “You were never weak Astrid. You were suppressed. There’s a massive difference.”“Suppressed..” I repeated quietly.“Anthony didn’t keep you controlled because you were weak. He kept you controlled because he could feel how strong you were and it terrified him.” Ian stood, moving back toward the weapon rack to replace the practice blades. “Strong people recognize strength in others. They just respond

  • Reborn As The True Luna   One hundred & seven

Astrid’s POVFour days passed in a blur of sweat and sore muscles and something that felt dangerously close to joy. Real joy! The uncomplicated kind that came from pushing your body past where it thought it could go and discovering there was more on the other side.I woke up on day one with determination sitting in my chest like a stone and went straight to the gym before the palace was fully awake. The corridors were quiet, just the distant sounds of early guard rotation and the soft footsteps of kitchen staff starting breakfast preparations. I wore black training leggings and a fitted long-sleeve top that had become my favorite because it moved with me instead of against me, my dark hair pulled back in a high ponytail that swung when I moved. Davian was already there like the gym freak I have noticed he is. He was standing at the center of the mat in dark training pants and a gray top that showed the kind of build that came from decades of actual combat rather than just aesthetic

Astrid’s POVMy eyes locked on a piece of paper as soon as I entered my room. The note was on my pillow when I got back to my quarters after dinner. There no envelope or signature. It’s just a folded piece of paper sitting in the middle of my bed like someone has walked right into my private space and left it there on purpose. Which meant they probably did.I stood there staring at it for a second before picking it up. The handwriting was neat. Definitely from someone who didn’t want to be recognized but has the confidence to take their time.-“We know what you did at Riftclaw. The documents you signed. The alliances you helped build. The pack decisions you were part of. We have everything. Pull your claim before the hearing or we release it all to the Council. You won’t just lose Silvermist. You’ll be charged as Anthony’s accomplice. You have 48 hours.”I read it twice then I sat on the bed and read it a third time because my brain needed a moment to catch up with what my eyes were s

  • Reborn As The True Luna   One hundred & five

Astrid’s POVI finally found my footing again by noon. Or at least I found something that looked like footing from a distance. Inside I was still quietly thunking about almost kissing Davian in the gym, replaying the moment on a loop and alternating between gratitude that Mara had interrupted and genuine anger about the same thing.Mostly resentment if I was honest. Duh. I dressed for lunch in one of the simpler outfits from my growing wardrobe and told myself to focus on what mattered. Not the way Davian’s hand had felt against my face or what he’d said about inevitable. Definitely not that. The main corridor leading to the dining hall was busy at midday, staff and warriors moving. I’ve learned the palace way enough that faces were becoming familiar, some of them offering small nods of acknowledgment as I passed.I was almost at the dining hall when I heard Cora’s voice from a side corridor.“—been impossible to get ten minutes with you this week.” Her tone was light but carried a

Astrid’s POV“The hearing is in nine days. After that, if the Council rules in my favor, I’ll need help rebuilding. Establishing authority, organizing the pack, figuring out how to actually lead.” I said sounding more confident than I feel. “You’ll have it.” Elder Thaddeus spread his hands. “Every

Astrid’s POVThe engines roared and suddenly we were accelerating, the world blurring past the windows. Then that stomach dropping sensation as the nose lifted and we were airborne. I white knuckled the armrests until we leveled out and the seatbelt sign dinged off. Wow. “You can relax now.” Amus

Astrid’s POV“We’re going to Silvermist.”I looked up from the book I’d been pretending to read, my was mind too scattered to actually absorb the words. Davian stood in the doorway to my quarters looking like he’s just made a decision.“When?”“Tomorrow morning.” He moved into the room fully. “Vinc

Astrid’s POVI was heading toward the dining hall for breakfast when two large figures stepped into my path, blocking the corridor with casual authority. It was Daniel and Ian.
