Elena’s POV

“Is that Elena?”

“I wouldn’t have recognized her if not for her face.”

“Damn… she looks different.”

Yeah, yeah, keep talking, people. That’s exactly what I want. Let them choke on their own jealousy.

Lena and I walked through the hall like we owned it. Our steps hit like thunder—every eye glued to us. She was rocking the shorts and tops we picked together, looking like a goddess who decided to casually grace mere mortals with her presence. What a child, honestly.

“You must be feeling like you own the school, right?”

A voice dripped with all the fake sweetness in the world, making us stop mid-step. I sighed and rolled my eyes before I even looked. Of course—it had to be Melinda, the self-proclaimed queen bee, dripping with arrogance, standing with that fake smile of hers. Jason’s little slut—typical.

“Oh my, it’s the school bee. Welcome back! What got in your pants?” Elena fired back, and her eyes snapped to Lena, burning hate into her gaze.

“For you too—lose some weight, must’ve stung, Jason rejected you, huh?” Melinda spat venomously.

The crowd murmured, some nodding, some whispering. I smirked.

“That’s right. I haven’t seen her since the day of rejection,” one of the girls murmured.

“Glad she worked on herself, though,” another voice chimed in.

I let them stew. Time to set the record straight. I raised my chin, voice calm but cutting.

“Jason who? That child? I’m sure the Moon Goddess was joking,” I said, letting the words drip with pure honeyed venom. “Pairing me with a fool like that? Absolutely a no-go.”

“WHAT?” Melinda screeched, and the hall gasped. Phones were up, mouths were open.

“Did she just call Jason a fool?”

“Damn, she’s bold!”

“And pretty!”

Yeah. I’ve always been pretty—you just were too blind, or too pathetic, to notice.

Melinda’s little pawn, Sara, piped up next: “Just because you lost some weight doesn’t make you pretty! You’re still the fat girl.”

I laughed so hard my chest hurt.

“No one asked you to talk, pawn pet. I’m in a good mood today ‘cause my best friend is back… or I might just spray your dirty little pussy with pepper,” Elena growled.

Melinda and her dog scrambled back, screaming, “You’ll pay!”

I laughed, tugging Lena by the hand. “Let me see you try, darling. Woof.”

“Now, let’s go learn,” I said, and Lena sighed in mock exhaustion.

“Can we skip?” she whined.

I shook my head, frowning. “Absolutely not. I thought you said you liked school now!?”

“Well, I don’t, okay!! I liedddd!” she groaned dramatically, throwing her hands in the air.

“Excuse me!” a voice stopped us again.

Another hater? Ugh. Lena and I turned, eyes narrowing, to see a boy walking towards us—handsome as hell, hair light pink, skin auburn, rocking skinny jeans and a simple top like he didn’t even have to try. I exchanged a glance with Lena; she raised an eyebrow, intrigued.

He stopped in front of us, smiled politely.

“Hello, I’m Hayden,” he said.

“Hi Hayden, I’m Elena… and she’s Elena also,” I introduced, pointing between us. He blinked like his brain just glitched.

“You two are both Elena?” he asked, eyes bouncing left and right.

We nodded in perfect unison because obviously.

“Wow that’s sick! Anyway… I just transferred here and got lost. These ants won’t stop staring at me like I’m suspicious,” he sighed dramatically. “I’m gay, not a killer.”

Ohhhhhh. That explains why he’s stupidly pretty.

“Damn, you’re beautiful,” I blurted out before my mouth asked for permission.

He smiled—and the dimple popped out like it was formed by the gods themselves. I

“I LOVE your dimple, boyyy—” the other Elena squealed and reached out like she was about to poke it.

I slapped her hand away. “Stop harassing the beauty, ma’am. Anyways, what department?”

“Art and design,” he replied.

I lit up immediately. “Say less, that’s where we’re going too.”

We started walking when Elena dropped a bomb like she was announcing a presidential decree.

“There’s a party tonight. Welcome-back party. We HAVE to be there ‘cause Jason will be there.”

She flipped her hair like that explained everything.

I raised a brow.

“He’s not even in school today,” she continued, “but he has to pay for what he did. We’re going. Final.”

She turned to Hayden. “And you’re coming with us, pretty boy.”

Hayden blinked. “Oh… okay.”

The way he said it, you'd think he just got recruited into a cult.

I shook my head, already exhausted, and walked into class.

“This party is actually cool,” Hayden muttered hours later, swaying his hips like a Disney princess with attitude while we danced.

We’d bumped into him at the gate —man was literally waiting like a lost puppy.

“I knowww,” Elena bragged, flipping her braids like a diva. “I might just choose you as my new bestie.”

I rolled my eyes so hard I saw my brain.

“I need a new drink. You two want?”

Both of them nodded instantly because of course they did—parasites.

I strutted to the bar, grabbed another cup, and someone tapped my arm.

“Hey pretty,” a slurred voice muttered.

I turned—and froze.

Jason.

Looking drunk, confused, and painfully slow-brained.

His eyes widened so aggressively it was almost funny.

“Elena…?”

ELENA’S POV By lunch, the number on my wrist had smudged into a blue mess. Fine. Whatever. It wasn't like I had it memorized or anything. (I had it memorized. All ten numbers. I wasn't proud of that.) "You keep looking at your arm," El said around a mouthful of fries. "That's the fourth time." "No I don't." "Hayden. Back me up." Hayden said nothing. He suddenly found his water bottle very interesting. "Coward," El said. "I'd like to survive lunch," he said. I pulled my arm under the table and glared at both of them. "Can we not make this a whole thing?" "It's already a whole thing, Lena. A boy wrote his number on your arm in front of the entire school. There's no version of this that isn't a thing." "He's pushy," I muttered. "That's all it means." "Mm-hm." El leaned back, arms crossed, wearing the smug look she always got right before she said something I wasn't going to like. "Is that why you haven't washed it off?" I froze with a fry halfway to my mouth. "I knew it," s

HADES POV“So,” Alex said, sitting down across from me at lunch. He had a big grin on his face. “How did it go with your mate?”“Fine.”“Fine, fine? Or fine like you got told no in a parking lot in front of forty people and now you’re dying inside?”“The second one,” Jeremiah said, not even looking up from his food.I didn’t answer either of them. Zach had been quiet and angry ever since I walked away from her. It felt like a door slamming, over and over, deep in my head.*You left,* he growled. *Why did you leave.*“Because she wanted space.”*She didn’t ask for space. You just guessed.*“She needed it. I could tell.”*Dumb.*“Thanks.”He didn’t say anything else. He just kept pacing inside me, restless, like he’d finally found the other half of himself and now he couldn’t sit still. It felt like something was pulling at my chest, telling me to go back and find her.I hated that I understood exactly how he felt.“Cap.” Alex waved a hand in front of my face. “You’re staring off again.

ELENA’S POVHe didn’t move. Didn’t smile. Didn’t look at anyone else.Just me.My stomach dropped somewhere near my shoes as Hades crossed the lot, helmet swinging loose from two fingers like he had all the time in the world. Every step he took, the crowd parted like he was Moses and they were a very horny, very nosy Red Sea.“Okay, this is not happening,” I muttered.“It’s happening,” Hayden said beside me, voice tight. “It’s very much happening.”El grabbed my arm. “Lena. LENA. Breathe.”“I am breathing.”“You’re doing the thing where you stop breathing and pretend you’re breathing.”I didn’t have time to argue, because Hades stopped a few feet away, and up close he was worse. Unfairly tall. Jaw like it was carved by someone with a personal vendetta against average men. And those eyes — the same ones that had locked on mine across an entire ice rink like a heat-seeking missile.Ria, traitor that she was, went absolutely feral in my chest. *Mate. Mate. MATE.*“Shut up,” I told her.“

Second mate? She had one before me? Me: second mate? Cous: yup to Jason. He rejected her because she was fat and now he wants her back. Elena, fat? My mind drifted back to the night of the club. *flashback* “I'm Elena Robert” The girl yelled after me and I smirked finding my way through the crowds.* *end of flashback* Me: Whats her last name. Cous: Roberto. The other girl is ls also Elena and they're best friend. Can you believe. She's the one. Fuck she looked great now. Like a fucking goddess. Elena. Me: how do you even know that much about her? Me: we're friends ofc I know most things about her. Me: keep an eye on her… Cous: why should I? Me: You wouldn't want to defy me. Hayden Deville. HADES POV “Fuck, I can’t wait for us to crush those pussies,” Jeremiah grinned, practically vibrating with anticipation. I didn’t bother responding. My wolf—Zach—had been pacing nonstop inside my head, restless and aggressive in a way that set my instincts on edge. Suspicious. “You good, Cap?” Alex asked. I smirked, masking it. “Always.” “I’m sure he’s just thinking about how many girls he’s gonna bang tonight,” someone laughed. I shook my head just as my phone buzzed. Cous: I’m here already. Break some legs. Me: Fuck off, sucker. Cous: I’m wishing you well, coward. Say it to my face. Me: Try me. Gotta go. Cous: Good luck out there! Me: I don’t need luck. I win regardless. “It’s time,” Coach announced as he stepped into the locker room. I rose, gripping my hockey stick as the team gathered. We slammed fists together, chanting before skating out onto the rink. The moment my blades hit the ice, Zach roared—so loud it almost ripped from my chest. Mate is here. “What?” I mu

Elena's PovThe burst of laughter was loud, satisfied, and purely vindictive. "Oh, that was satisfying as hell. Did you see his damn face?" Elena crowed, collapsing into her chair.I nodded, still smiling. "I know—so epic, mehnn."Hayden, ever the pragmatic one, summed up the whole situation, carefully linking the past to the present. "So, he rejected you when you were fat, and now that you've worked on yourself, he suddenly wants you back?""Exactly," Elena and I confirmed in unison."The audacity of him calling all this," I gestured dramatically down at my new figure, "a 'surgery' or a desperate cry for attention is just incredible."Hayden blinked, looking thoughtful. "Did you work out because he rejected you, though?""Uh, partly," I admitted, shrugging slightly. "Well, it's mostly because I want to be hot. It's just a lot of reasons, honestly." I let out a long sigh, the complicated truth heavy in the air.We had settled into our seats in the middle row just as the main lecture
