Chapter 3

last update publish date: 2026-04-14 21:24:26

Kate’s P.O.V.

There he was!

Standing tall among the crowd, his aura commanding as if the world adjusted itself around him.

Broad shoulders, dark hair, sharp features with quiet precision.

His presence didn’t demand attention.

It owned it!

“Osiris!”

Jennifer’s face lit up as she rushed past me, her voice suddenly soft, eager, and almost shy.

“I didn’t know you would come.”

Osiris didn’t smile, didn’t step forward. He didn’t even react the way most men would when treated with that kind of attention.

His gaze brushed over her briefly and then settled on me, its intensity sending a quiet shiver down my spine.

Jennifer noticed it as well.

And just like that, her sweetness cracked, something colder slipping through before she masked it again.

“Kate!” She said, turning back to me with a sweet smile. “Are you alright?”

I almost laughed.

The same woman who just ordered me stripped was now acting all sweet.

Her hand extended toward me.

“Let me help you up.”

For a second, I considered ignoring her fake concern and walking away, avoiding more drama. But the way she had humiliated me a few minutes ago ignited my blood.

I raised my head and smiled, taking her hand gently. And then... under everyone’s watchful eyes, I pulled hard.

“Ahh!”

Jennifer lost her balance instantly, the layers of her elaborate gown tangling under her feet as she went down, falling with a satisfying thud.

After a beat of silence, laughter echoed, loud enough to crack through the carefully maintained perfection of the event.

Jennifer struggled, arms caught awkwardly in the folds of her own dress, unable to stand.

I bit my lips to hide the mean smirk and got up.

“Careful!” I said lightly. “You wouldn’t want to damage it. It’s Jace’s gift for you!”

I turned around before she could respond and walked away. The cold night air hit my face as I stepped outside the venue, the noise fading behind me.

My hands were still shaking from everything I hadn’t allowed myself to feel.

“Walking away suits you.”

I stilled and then turned.

Osiris stood a few steps behind me, composed as ever.

“I didn’t realize I had an audience.”

“You didn’t,” he replied coolly. “Not until you made one.”

Well… that was fair!

His gaze dropped to my side, and I followed it to the tear in my dress.

“It’s ruined.”

“I know.”

He asked after a pause. “Do you want to fix it?”

I let out a quiet sigh. “Unless you are hiding a sewing kit somewhere. I think it’s beyond repair.”

The corner of his lips curved into a faint smile.

“Come to my room.”

It wasn’t a suggestion. And after what happened tonight, anywhere was better than here.

I nodded. “Alright!”

His suite was luxurious, the best guest room in the entire pack.

Osiris moved past me, setting his coat aside before pouring two glasses of wine.

I hesitated when he handed me one. “I don’t usually drink.”

“Why?”

What kind of absurd question was that? I generated an excuse to stall and refuse him.

“Low tolerance, I guess.” I admitted. “And poor decision-making tends to follow.”

His gaze lingered for a silent moment.

“Then don’t make decisions. Just drink and relax.”

That was… some advice.

I accepted the glass with thanks and sipped wine, the expensive alcohol burning my throat deliciously. One glass warmed me, loosening the tight knot in my chest.

“Jennifer doesn’t like me.” I began, shattering the silence.

“That’s obvious.” Osiris admitted openly.

I huffed. “She thinks I am a threat.”

“You are!”

I blinked thinking he could have at least showed some empathy towards me.

Did this man ever think how his cold voice could hurt others?

“That wasn’t modesty speaking.”

“It wasn’t meant to be.” He sipped again, nonchalantly.

My stunned gaze flicked to him, studying his serious yet dashing face.

“She has no reason to be threatened.” I said quietly. “Not anymore.”

“People rarely need reason,” he said. “They need insecurity.”

That… made sense!

Silence stretched between us, strangely comforting.

Osiris poured himself another glass, his voice casual now.

“She was introduced to me once.”

“Jennifer?” I asked with my eyes widened.

“Yes. My family considered her a suitable match for arranged marriage.”

His statement piqued my curiosity.

“And?”

“I wasn’t interested.” Osiris spoke flatly. “I have no interest in spoiled, entitled girls.”

I huffed a small laugh. “That’s specific.”

Swirling the crimson liquid in the glass, his gaze shifting back to me. I could see how he licked his lips teasingly while staring at me. My whole body burnt under the soul-piercing eyes.

“But you...”

His voice was hoarse and shallow, like a bare whisper which stirred a wild sensation in my belly.

“You are different.”

What the hell was my body doing?

It seemed to be freaking out in his presence as heat crept into my cheeks. I took another sip of wine, glancing at Osiris holding the stem glass, wondering how his grip would feel around my neck.

Osiris’s voice dragged me back from my fantasy as he said after a moment.

“You need to change.”

Our eyes connected, and the speck of gold in his eyes mesmerized me, warming me up in all the right places.

His faint smirk made me realize he had caught me red-handed.

“It’s fine...” I tried very hard to ignore his burning gaze. “I-I just need something to cover it...”

The rest of the words died down in my mouth with the sudden wave of temptation. Osiris unbuttoned his shirt and took it off smoothly.

“Wear this. This should suffice for now.”

Moon Goddess on bike!

It wasn’t that I hadn’t seen a man before. But the alpha in front of me could only be described as a Greek god.

An Adonis, a fashion model, the human equivalent of sex on a stick.

That didn’t even make sense, but my brain had shut off while I admired the creation before me.

His sculpted muscles glimmered under light as he slowly walked towards me as if he was stalking his prey.

“Enjoying the view?”

“Yes... I mean… No.”

I bit my tongue as my cheeks warmed, scolding myself inwardly.

‘Okay, Kate, get a grip!’

I composed myself and took his shirt, but his warm fingers brushing mine sent a jolt directly to my core. Osiris stepped closer, his full lips, defined jaw coupled with messy dark hair, and muscles making him look sinful and manly.

A girl could get wet just looking at him.

And a girl was!

“Change here.”

He held my chin up, his warm breath fanning my face. His deep voice sent shivers down my spine and made me clench my thighs together.

But I covered it up with an eye roll and turned, my balance swaying as alcohol kicked in at the very wrong moment.

“I’ll be quick.”

Muttering under my breath, I removed the fabric from my shoulder and then... paused. The feeling of being watched settled over my skin.

I glanced back. Osiris was a few steps away, his intense gaze fixed on me.

I shot him a warning glare and thankfully, he took the hint. He switched off the main lights, leaving only a dim glow behind.

My hands trembled as I slipped out of my dress, reaching for the shirt...

But a pair of burly arms wrapped around me from behind. Tucking me back to his exposed torso, Osiris whispered, his warm breath brushing my ear.

“Kate, are you willing?”

The way he said my name made me forget everything else. He pressed his nose to the crook of my neck, and I almost moaned, the rumbling of his low growl travelling to every speck of my existence.

“I… am...”

My whimpering was enough to convey how badly I wanted him.

His rough hand reached up to my thigh, covering my skin with delicious heat as he left a trail of kisses on my neck.

I had never imagined an alpha to be romantic with such tricks up his sleeve!

Instead of bending me over, he pulled the strap of my bra with his teeth, the sharpness grazing my skin. I gasped as he turned me to face him, flattening me against the wall.

“Ah... Osiris...”

He leaned in over my bosom, and I shivered as his nose touched my sternum. Reaching the base of my neck, he left a peck at the center.

“I love the way you moan my name, Kate.”

His hand slid between my thighs, brushing over the wetness, making me moan. He raised his head, his smoldering gaze burning into mine.

“But I want you to scream it tonight.”

As Osiris said, I didn’t think at all.

Not when his hands traced heat across my skin.

Not when his touch pushed me to climax repeatedly, taking me to the new heights of euphoria.

By the time we were done, I was a moaning mess under him, my body aching in the best way. Exhaustion took over me as I fell asleep, waking up after a comforting nap in the morning.

My head was heavy, body slower than usual. The memories of my last night came back all at once, warming my cheeks as I turned…

“Ouch!”

An involuntary gasp escaped me as a sharp pain shot through my neck. I touched the tender skin and flinched.

“Goddess!”

I picked up my phone from the nightstand and turned on the camera. My eyes widened to see a giant mating mark glimmering on my neck…

Kate's P.O.V.The next morning arrived far too quickly, ending the hardest night in Wild Prowlers Pack so far.Unable to sleep, I saw Osiris sitting on the couch with his laptop open all night, his broad shoulders tense beneath the dim lamp while the silence between us grew heavier by the hour.He didn’t come to bed, and when dawn finally painted the room gold, he simply closed the laptop, straightened his suit, and walked out.He didn’t even say goodbye or kiss me like every other day, the click of the bedroom door echoing louder than any growl.I sat on the bed for a long time, hugging my knees despite the ache in my lower abdomen. An invisible wall stood between us now. And I had no idea how to tear it down. The trail of my thoughts was halted by a gentle knock on the door as Lauren entered with breakfast and my morning medicine.“Good morning, Luna.”Taking a deep breath, I forced a smile.“Morning.”She placed the tray before me before taking out a sealed envelope.“This arrived f

Kate's P.O.V.The sample collection took longer than I expected. As I was carrying twins, a simple blood collection wasn’t possible. The whole process took an hour, and then I had to stay in the hospital under observation. The aftermath of the test made me second-guess my decision. The council physicians performed an invasive prenatal bloodline verification procedure, collecting fetal samples directly from my womb. The points where the needle was inserted hurt like hell, and even my babies became quiet, as if the procedure scared them too.I would have endured all that easily, but Jace hovering around me seriously tested my patience.“Kate, do you need help?”“Please drink this juice.”“I can call the doctor from my pack.”Blah. Blah. Blah. His continuous yapping really got on my nerves. I asked the nurse.“Please escort everyone out. I want to rest.”Despite my sharp tone, Jace smiled warmly.“I am standing outside. Kate's P.O.V.All thanks to Dr. Karev's help, I was able to resolve the mystery of my relationship dilemma. The decision was made, and there came the most challenging part of my plan: Osiris.I had to convince my alpha mate for this test.Pulling out my phone, I opened my chat with Osiris.“Can we talk? It's important.”He replied after five minutes.“In a meeting with Alpha Rowan. Give me thirty minutes, My Moon.”Even in the middle of work, he managed to reply to me, his care bringing a smile to my lips. I took a deep breath and sat down on my bed.“Thirty minutes. I can wait that much.”For this impossible task, I began preparing a speech in my mind, gathering cautious statements. It was quite easy to trigger his anger when any bad thing about me was mentioned in a conversation.I was in the middle of crafting an emotional attack when my phone rang and a notification popped on the screen.“Official email to Alpha Osiris Kessler’s mate.”The subject of the email immediately garnered

Kate's P.O.V.The Kessler residence had never felt this quiet.Osiris had gone to the office shortly after lunch despite my protests. Before leaving, he had promised to investigate the mystery surrounding the twins. How did Jace know?Neither of us had an answer.I rested my chin against my palm, staring blankly at the book lying open before me. The words blurred together no matter how many times I tried to read them.My thoughts refused to leave anything behind.Jace’s statement didn’t make any sense. In the heat of the moment, no one noticed the fact that he boldly claimed that I was carrying his ‘pups.’ Like how did he even know that?We should have asked this question in the council meeting, but it was too late. Moreover, if anyone was slipping information to him in private, direct questioning would alert him.Ugh!I rubbed my aching forehead.Osiris already had too many problems. The council, elders, Jace, and now another mystery had landed on his shoulders because of me.A sigh

Osiris's P.O.V.Kate’s heart pounded so wildly that it became the only sound in the room, fear visible in her eyes. She looked at me like a criminal waiting for a death sentence, begging for mercy silently. My chest knotted into a tight ball of tension. This was her home, the place where she should feel welcomed and safe. But seeing her hanging on to the last thread of hope deepened my guilt. I cupped her face in both hands and shook my head.“None.”Kate's tense muscles gradually relaxed beneath my touch as I spoke firmly.“There will be no test or ritual, My Moon.”Her lashes fluttered.“But the council…”“We already know the truth.” I brushed a loose strand of hair behind her ear. “I trust our bond more than any priest or laboratory.”For a long moment, Kate simply stared at me, her eyes glimmering with tears. Then she leaned forward and rested her head against my chest, sighing deeply.I wrapped my arms around her carefully.“Rest assured, My Moon. No one gets to question my mate

Yet none of those battles prepared me for the woman sitting in front of me.Kate's sharp eyes refused to leave mine. It wasn't anger that unsettled me, but certainty. Like she already knew the truth.“My Moon…” I began carefully. “It must be a misunderstanding…”She crossed her arms over her chest.“No more lies, Alpha Snowflake.”Her voice carried an unfamiliar firmness. Something about it… made Ace lift his head immediately. He commented. “She's different tonight.”I ignored his commentary and focused on the task at hand.“I already told you, My Moon. It was a rogue attack. I defended my territory.”“I know. You defended something.” Her eyes narrowed. “But it wasn't your territory, Alpha.”She leaned forward until our faces were a few inches away“What do you think?
