After leaving Kael behind, grunting in frustration, I headed back toward the ballroom smiling.
I didn't know what was up with the Lycan King but I was sure glad that someone was putting Kael in his place.
“Where have you been? I’ve been looking for you.”
Valen appeared beside me, his sharp eyes scanning me from head to toe. Suspicion flickered in his gaze.
I frowned.
“I just stepped out for some fresh air.”
Right on cue, footsteps echoed behind us. I didn’t need to turn around. I already knew that scent.
Of course.
What perfect timing.
“Fresh air, huh?” Kael muttered, his tone laced with sarcasm.
He walked past us, his shoulder brushing slightly against mine but not before throwing me a dark, possessive glare.
I rolled my eyes.
“I’m going inside,” I said quickly. I wasn’t in the mood for Valen’s interrogation. Nothing I said would convince him anyway and frankly, I didn’t care enough to try. Let them think whatever they wanted.
“I came to tell you something,” Valen said, stopping me.
I paused.
“I’ll be leaving tonight.”
That made me turn.
“Leaving?” I frowned. “Why? What happened?”
The summit tomorrow was just as important to him as it was to me. And just like me, he had someone he cared about caught in this forsaken crisis.
Valen exhaled slowly.
“My mother woke up,” he said quietly. “She asked for me. If I don’t go… I might regret it.”
The sadness in his voice made my chest tighten and I nodded slowly. If she was asking for him now… then time wasn’t on her side.
“Do you want me to come with you?” I asked softly.
His mother had been like a mother to me too. When I first arrived, broken and hunted, she had taken me in without hesitation. Valen and his mom took care of me and even when I took over my pack, they were my support system.
Valen shook his head.
“No. You know what she wants most… and you can’t give it to her.” His gaze softened. “You need to stay. Represent the Crimson Shadow Pack. You are our alpha and you need to be here.”
His words hit harder than I expected.
“Valen…” My voice faltered.
“It’s okay,” he said, though I could see the pain behind his calm expression. “I understand. I’m not him… and I never will be.”
My chest ached.
He loved me but I couldn't love him back. His mother needed him to take a wife before she died and I couldn't give him that.
“I can’t lie to you,” I said quietly. “Or to myself. I’m sorry.”
He nodded once.
“You don’t have to explain anything,” he replied. “I already know.”
Valen had been there when no one else was. He had helped me rebuild myself when I was nothing and yet… I couldn’t love him the way he deserved. No. The way he wanted.
To me, he was a brother, a confidante but nothing more. I felt bad but it is what it is.
“If I had met you earlier…” he said softly, turning away, “maybe things would be different.”
Something about that felt… off. It was as if there was more behind those words but before I could question it, he walked away.
I stood there, staring after him.
What decision did he make today…?
Shaking it off, I returned to the ballroom.
The party was in full swing now. There was laughter, music, the clinking of glasses and conversation all over. The dance floor was packed, bodies moving under dim golden lights but I felt… out of place.
I was alone and the last person I wanted to run into tonight was Alpha Lucien Drayke and his relentless flirting or even Kael.
With no one to talk to, I slipped out of the hall and headed toward my room.
“Milady… would you care for a walk?”
I stopped.
That voice… it was deep, smooth and commanding.
I looked up and there he was.
King Darius Wolfe.
Standing before me like temptation itself, a faint smile playing on his lips, his hand extended toward me. For a moment, I hesitated but with Valen gone… and the night stretching endlessly ahead…
“Sure,” I said, placing my hand in his.
His fingers closed around mine, warm and firm and just like that… he led me away.
We walked past the pack grounds, deeper into the woods and I noticed the direction immediately.
“You’re taking me somewhere interesting?” I asked, glancing at him.
Darius smirked slightly.
“Maybe,” he said. “Or maybe you’ll discover something you weren’t meant to.”
Cryptic. Annoyingly so but I didn’t press. Instead, I let myself enjoy the quiet… and his presence.
The forest wrapped around us, calm and still. For once, my mind wasn’t racing.
“There’s something I’ve been wondering,” he said after a while.
I glanced at him.
“How did you become Alpha of the Crimson Shadow Pack?”
I arched a brow.
“You’ve done your research.”
He chuckled softly. “When something catches my interest, I make it my business to know everything about it.”
Something. Not someone. Typical.
“Fine,” I said. “Vaken, my beta, found me half-dead after a rogue attack. Took me in. And somehow…” I exhaled lightly. “I turned out to be the missing daughter of the Alpha they were searching for.”
I gave a small shrug.
“Crazy, right?”
Even now, it sounded ridiculous. I was lucky. Too lucky if you asked me but I didn’t question it. I took the opportunity and became stronger because I had learned one thing the hard way, the weak don’t survive, they get trampled and forgotten because they are deemed worthless.
“I didn’t take the position for power,” I added quietly. “I took it because I refused to ever be that powerless again.”
Silence followed and then he spoke.
“Do you trust him?” Darius asked.
I looked at him.
“Valen?”
His gaze didn’t waver.
“Yes. Your beta.”
Something about the way he asked that question made my chest tighten and for the first time that night, I hesitated.
SerenaI looked at him… He looked at me……And for what felt like an actual eternity, time came to a screeching halt and suddenly stood still. I could only see Darius' eyes, those sad honey-glazed hellfire eyes that looked at me as if feeling everything tearing my insides apart, as if sharing that anguish and wanting to banish it.His throaty voice shushing me and soothing me echoed all around making me feel safe. How big bear hands made me more secure than I had felt in years.I didn't understand why he was still with me even after everything that had happened but I was glad that he was here.I reached out to those eyes, to that voice, to the one trying to soothe me.Fingers the color of snow touched those dark, scalding cheeks covered with coarse hair. He hasn't shaved in what looked like weeks. My face screwed up again involuntarily and I pushed myself up, wrapping my arms around his neck and burying my face against it, pressing my face against his pulse, my lips right over his ju
SerenaI have never cried as hard as I cried on that bathroom floor in any of my years long past. Even when Kael beat me for nothing and banished me, even when mama died, even when the Ironfang Pack tried to kill me, I have never felt such pain.It was ripping apart and I hated it and I couldn't help myself and I hated it even more. After Darius came, I could see that he was tired and hadn't slept well and so, I asked him to cuddle with me and he agreed. What he didn't know was that it was him I wasted to rest. And rest he did because a few minutes in my arms and he was a goner.Everyone else had left us and I knew that no one would come in unless he went out first or he called out for them and that was why when I woke up with the need to go to the toilet and change the pad I was wearing, I didn't wake him up and decided to walk to the bathroom by the help of the wall and help myself.I had decided to start exercising this early and maybe, one day, life would be kind to me and give m
SerenaThat was when it dawned on me that Darius was hiding from me because he was feeling guilty. If I read his emotions right, he must have been blaming himself for me getting hurt and for the reason why I wasn't healing.I decided not to think about it and not to mention it to him when he came and to just go with the flow. But what I promised myself was that I was going to do all it took to make sure that I would get well.Heck! I had to.What with all the plans I had?I needed to look for the Vale's book of medicine, heal his parents and all those who had been turned, kill Elija, start rebuilding the Vale clan and I hadn't even married him yet.I needed to marry him and give us both children to carry over our legacy. So, I needed to be strong for both of us.“Luna, let's go. Do you want me to carry you?" SerenaThe doctor spent a good while stretching me… yes, literally, in different ways.He kneaded my thighs and calves and even my butt and the base of my spine with his fingertips, looking for abnormalities in my bone structure and joints, but given that he said nothing other than the occasional "turn around" or "bend" I didn't think he found anything amiss. It was awkward, though.I mean, really, how could it not be when he had to touch me so much and he was a man whereas I was woman? It was only when he stepped back that I allowed myself to relax."All right," he said, straightening his coat. "Try taking a few steps forward."I swallowed hard, then took a deep breath and tried to do so to the best of my abilities. It came as a horrible surprise to discover that I couldn't stretch either of my legs as far as I used to because my ability to bend them at the knees was far more limited than I had been expecting.I would have fallen over and hurt myself had the girl with me not seen it
Serena I remember that time as if it happened yesterday because it was the most embarrassing moment of my whole life and I hoped that it never happens again. I was horny beyond words and all my mind could think about at that moment was dick. I hated Darius because I couldn't understand how he could just look at me go through all that pain and do nothing about it. At that time, my brain was telling me that if I were him, I would dick me properly until I came out of the rut. He tried telling me reasons why we couldn't but in that state, I would be lying if I said that I understood.I was able to hold on for a whole week and he never touched me inappropriately or say any hurting words to me like I did.Sometimes, I would be myself and talk to him well but other times, when the what hit, I would be so delirious that I would call him names and say hurtful words just because he refused to do me.My rut went on for a whole week and after that, I started feeling myself and the bouts beca

In fact, she would be very embarrassed if she ever found out what she did when she was like this. But I wasn't going to tell her.Her blood sang in my tongue and throat, and once I felt that I had helped alleviate her pain even for a tiny bit, I pulled my teeth out and licked her wounds until they were fully heal
