LOGINCole POV
“Go ahead without us; we will meet you there,” my Alpha, Carson, stated through our mind-link. I chuckled at the Alpha, knowing he was taking advantage of private time with his Luna, Marly. I was excited about attending the spring Gala, and more importantly, looking forward to the possibility of finding my second chance mate.
I had avoided the galas for a few years now. Having been rejected by my fated mate who was wanting to mate with an Alpha, I had buried the pain and kept it to myself that I had been rejected. Marly, being a healer, had stumbled upon my secret during a healing session.
I had not wanted anyone to know as I was humiliated at being rejected. At the time I was a Gamma. I had recently been promoted to Beta for our pack, the Full Moon Pack. I was proud of the promotion and hoped it would be a step in the right direction for my second chance mate … provided I got lucky enough to be given one.
As we arrived at the hotel and got everyone checked in, I smiled at the excited chatter among all the pack members. Everyone who was attending was single, with the exception of the Alpha and Luna. The Alpha would be present to conduct the appropriate ceremonies either accepting new members into our pack or wishing the best to those who would be leaving our pack to be with their mates from other regions.
I felt the stirrings of my wolf, Gunner. “What is it?” I asked, immediately going on alert. I had not identified any threat, but I trusted Gunner’s instincts. “Something is off,” he mumbled, as he yawned having just woken from a nap. We had trained hard this morning, and he was taking advantage of the down time.
“What do you mean?” I asked. “I have a feeling our mate is here,” he replied, as excited as Gunner could be. He was a low-key wolf, always calm and sure of himself and his abilities. “Is she in this hotel?” I asked, trying to contain my excitement. “No; but she is attending the Gala,” he murmured as he slipped to the back of my mind.
I felt a stir of excitement in my belly. This is what I had been hoping for but now that it was close, I was uncertain once again of what to expect. I moved towards the elevator and went up to my room. I hung up my suit, before moving further into the spacious area.
It was laid out nicely. A room off to the side was for the bedroom. I had a sitting area, and a bathroom off to the other side. I noticed snacks on the table and moved forward to enjoy them. I knew this was Marly’s touch and I suspected all pack members had snacks in their rooms.
I moved towards the window and saw she-wolves walking out in the courtyard. Could one of them be mine, I wondered. No. I would feel the bond more intensely. I sighed and accepted that I would have to wait until tonight to find my mate.
I looked at my watch. Only a few more hours and I would be holding her in my arms. As I sat there staring outside, taking in the sights, I heard Carson through our mind-link. “We have arrived,” he shared, before asking, “Any clues yet?”. I shook my head, “I have not scented anybody, but Gunner believes she is here,” I shared.
“Oh, that is sooo exciting!” Marly exclaimed, joining our mind-link. I smiled at my Luna’s response. She was so hoping I would find my mate. For her and me. She wanted a Beta female to share secrets with and to plan pack events. I chuckled, “You just want her for yourself,” I teased.
“Of course I do. You two are always ganging up on me,” she teased right back. “Hurry and get ready! I want to be the first to arrive so we can watch for your mate,” Marly encouraged, as I closed the mind-link and realized the time. We would be leaving in an hour, and I still needed to shower and get ready. I moved towards the washroom, as the pending evening loomed in my mind.
Would I be luckier with my second chance mate? As I moved towards the washroom, I heard a light tap on my door. I moved to open it, and sighed when I saw Christine standing there in a very skimpy dress. “I told you I was not interested, Christine,” I said with a bit of annoyance.
“I know what you said, but I do not believe you. I think you are just holding out on me,” she responded, moving to step inside my room. I gently turned her around and nudged her out of the door. “I will see you when we head to the Gala,” I said, shutting the door before she could say anything else.
The last thing I needed was a distraction from tonight’s events.
Cole POV I had been pacing the floor outside the operating room for hours. Carson and Marly were sitting waiting, as was the woman who had brought us here. I had no idea why she had stayed. Kendrick had stayed behind with Susan’s body, ensuring it was prepared for transport back to our pack land. “How much longer?” Marly muttered, echoing what we all were feeling. “Soon, I hope,” I replied. As if sensing our need for information, a nurse came through the operating doors. “The doctor will be out to see you shortly,” she said. Marly and Carson stood, as the woman remained in her chair. The doctor came out a few minutes later, sweat on her forehead. “How is she?” I asked, feeling my breath catch in my throat. She looked at me solemnly. “The Beta Female survived the surgery,” the doctor stated. There was a rush of relief that went through my body. Marly hugged Carson, equally as happy to hear
Jessica POV I stood there panting for a moment, in shock that the end had finally come. Grayson was destroyed, and we had destroyed the three beasts. Silence surrounded me, as everyone was in their own moment. Then followed the painful scream from the woman known as Grayson’s mate. “Let me go,” she yelled, as she moved towards Grayson’s fallen body. I watched her as she kneeled beside her dead mate. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she lifted his head into her arms. “Why?” she kept whispering as she rocked Grayson back and forth. She looked up at me with bitterness in her eyes. “You did not have to kill him!” she spit out. “It was the only choice,” I replied, as my hand went to my abdomen. I noticed the blood, but I heard Marly yell for me. I did a quick fix intending to return to the wound, once I had healed Carson. I moved beside Marly and started to scan Carson’s body. He had been knock
Jessica POV I turned to see Cole holding a claw to the woman’s neck. He was prepared to destroy her. “Cole,” I whispered, as he glanced back at me, “You did not think you could get rid of me that easily, did you?” he teased. I sagged in relief, feeling Grayson pull me tighter to his body. “You do anything to my mate, and I will destroy yours,” Grayson stated. “I doubt that you bastard. You care more about your mission than you do your mate,” Cole taunted. The woman gasped, and I had a momentary pang of sadness for her. It was true, he was so focused on winning he was losing sight of what should matter the most. “They are lying, sweetheart. They are trying to make you doubt me. You trust me, right?” Grayson encouraged. The woman paused, fear on her face. “Just let them go, Grayson. Come with me now,” she pleaded. I could feel the anger rising in Grayson’s energy. He swore before respondi
Jessica POV Grayson’s footsteps faltered as the soft voice carried across the room. He stopped moving and turned towards the woman who had moved from the shadows. The woman I had seen in the upstairs window. “Sweetheart, we have been over this,” Grayson started to say when the woman stopped him. “I do not want this for you. I want us to be together,” she replied softly. I could feel the frustration coming from Grayson as he watched the woman move closer. “I want more for us; you know that,” Grayson commented as the woman moved to stand in front of him. “I am happy with you ... just as you are,” she responded. He looked at her, truly looked and I saw a flicker of hesitation in his eyes. A moment where he wanted to give the woman whatever she wanted. He gave himself a shake, “I am sorry, sweetheart. Things are already in motion,” he advised before adding, “Please go back upstairs,” he encouraged.
Jessica POV “Surprise!” the man standing in front of us said with laughter. I looked at him in complete shock. “How?” I questioned. “Well, Jessica, it’s all about magic,” he smirked, as he took a step towards me. Cole moved in front of me, blocking the man from moving closer. “Cole, I always did respect you man,” the man noted. I could not believe my eyes. “Why?” I asked. “Why not? I love a bit of world domination,” he commented, as he turned away from us. Cole made a twitch indicating he was going to move. I did not trust the man in front of us and grabbed Cole’s arm to stop him from moving. “You see, I have spent years perfecting my persona,” he started to share with us. “And as I grew stronger, I recognized my abilities were admirable, but not quite enough,” he continued. “I started to look around and figured out where I would excel. I knew the other two idiots had lost their fearless leader in a battle,
Jessica POV I looked at Marly, “It cannot be,” I commented as I considered the potential. “He would have been able to destroy Cole and I long before this point,” I noted, as we all remembered those early days of me leaving with Cole. “No, it is not possible,” I reaffirmed. I looked at everyone, “The next part is important. I need to enter the pack house. I need you all to stay out here so I can focus on what needs to be done,” I stated. “Not a fucking chance,” Cole replied angrily. “I will not be able to focus with you there,” I admitted. “I will not let you go anywhere without backup,” Cole stated. “I can go with her," Marly suggested. “Not a fucking chance,” Carson stated, quoting Cole. Marly looked at Carson, “You cannot keep my in a bubble all the time,” she commented. “I can damn well do my best,” Carson said, trying to shut Marly down. I held my hand up, “No more; I need to enter the

Cole POV It bothered me that Jessica thought she had to thank us for coming for her. It worried me that she did not understand how valuable she was too me. I realized I had my work cut out for me. Showing her how much she means to me, while also dealing with the seemingly en
Jessica POV I could feel the blood dripping from the wound on my neck, but I had to reach Cole before he killed the man he was choking. “Stop!” I yelled, as Cole faltered and turned to look at me. The confusion on his face was evident, as he asked me, “Why?”. “Because I need
Cole POV I heard Jessica scream, and I knew we were still too far away to stop whatever was happening. Gunner put on top speed, with Carson keeping pace. “Do not do anything crazy,” Carson cautioned. “The only thing I will be doing is saving my mate from whatever hell she i
