"Yes, sist. Go on. Tell him." Adelyn stopped beside Scott with a smile that looked genuinely positive. "Let me tell you the truth... He likes you."

"R-really?"

"Trust me." Adelyn whispered. "He confessed it last night."

"H-he did. But he's your boyfriend. Aren't you mad?"

"I wanted to kill you when I got to know the truth. But love and feelings... Well, it can happen for anyone. Too bad it happened for you." She said with a bombastic side-eye cast towards Scott.

"Yeah! She's right. I couldn't help it." Scott winked at me.

My body was alight with happiness. I hesitantly took Scott's hands and smiled at him while all the students in the canteen stopped doing whatever they were doing.

"S-Scott, I d-didn't know you l-like me."

"So, is it true?" He raised an eyebrow.

I thought about it first. It doesn't happen normally that the school's most handsome guy likes you. It's happening to me. Maybe the Moon Goddess has finally cast her glance of mercy at me. She's finally looking at me and Scott is the first happiness in my otherwise vulnerable life.

Sucking in a deep breath, I looked into his eyes.

"Ever since you came to school." I confessed.

"See, she's blushing again." Adelyn said.

"Oh, I see it. It's still very less though. Let me darken it."

I wasn't prepared for what Scott did next— He clutched the back of my neck and shoved my face down into a plate of schezwan noodles.

"It's not enough. Let me add more blush." That was Adelyn's voice.

Then I had schezwan sauce squirted into my eyes. I screamed on top of my lungs. I screamed to let go. But my sister, my sister and the guy I loved were busy bathing my head with the burning spicy sauce.

Somehow I gathered courage and ran away from there. I came to the restroom and splashed water into my eyes back to back. The burning wouldn't subside. It was as if two burning coals were pushed into my eyes. I couldn't even see anything.

"Carolyn," Adelyn's voice boomed.

I turned to my left. I could hardly see her through my teary burning eyes.

"W-why? Why would you do that, Adelyn? W-we are sisters. Twins." I stammered past the lump in my throat.

"Twins? Haha, look at you and look at me. I'm far more beautiful. Whereas you... You look like an unhealthy, overweight baby elephant. You bring shame to me."

"I... I didn't want to be this way. I d-didn't choose this. S-so why would you pick on me, Adelyn? At your own sister." I couldn't see her face yet but I knew she was listening.

I've always loved Adelyn. I have very faint memories of us as toddlers. But I remember us taking each other's backs. She would support me and take a stand for me.

But while growing up, she changed somewhere. My lovely sweet twin sister changed. She started liking seeing me getting humiliated. Most of the time she's behind my pain. She eggs people on. From our parents to classmates, she goads everyone to hate me.

"Because it's fun." Adelyn quietly whispered.

Fun? Bullying me over my weight is fun?

She patted my big belly, "You look like a couch and it's embarrassing because we are twins. We are the Alpha's daughters. We're supposed to look good. Supposed to influence our pack towards a healthy future. But you mess everything up with your weight. Do you have any idea how badly you are influencing our peers? If everyone ends up looking like you, we'll never be able to save ourselves from sudden rogue attacks because everyone will be too big to move rapidly. You see how wrong that is."

"You're a bad influence and I'm only trying to force you to workout."

Is she kidding? She's killing my spirits little by little. That's all she's doing.

Ah, my eyes. I felt like someone pricked my eyeballs with a needle when I tried to open them. I immediately turned around and turned the faucet on again. I was collecting water in my palms when I felt Adelyn move closer.

Her breath fell over my ear as she leaned closer to whisper, "There's another reason. If you stay alive, you'll always be a threat."

Threat?

As if she read my mind she added again, "You'll stand between me and my position as the future Alpha Female."

My body trembled as I forced my eyes to spring open. I stared at Adelyn through the mirror. My eyeballs were red and swollen. I truly looked like a pig with my big pink face, double chin and tiny eyes.

I never wanted to be the Alpha female. As if I stand a chance against her. Dad would never give that to me. I'm not the favorite daughter, am I?

I wanted to tell my twin the same. But she beat me to it and whispered again, "I know dad will never make you the Alpha. But he will if you are what they think you are."

What does that mean? I was lost in my thoughts when she grabbed my hair and banged my face against the mirror.

It cracked with a deafening sound as my head spun. The pain was intolerable.

"You need to die, Carolyn. You must."

They're the last words I heard before I was sucked into oblivion.

  • Rise Above Rejection   Chapter 32

32Carolyn's POV My face brightened as my voice spilled, "Oli, I missed you.""Me too, chubby baby." He put an arm around me and rocked me left and right. "Gosh, thank god you came. I didn't want to go to eat alone. You know, their stares and whispers unsettles me." I said as he came to sit next to me. "You won't have to sit alone, Carol. I'm back for good.""Your extra classes done?" I asked as I watched his drained face. Oliver was occupied by extra classes since he's doing an advanced medical course. I learned it a few days ago when we met to have dinner that his parents are the elder doctors of the pack. Jean and Hannah Blackbay. They were training Oliver to take after them. He was doing pretty good for his age. I also recently discovered that Oliver could also do minor surgeries like stitching up a wound, removing wolfsbane bullets and healing a wolf and all. So he had to go somewhere out of the pack with his father for extra classes. "Yeah. I learned to heal a rotting wou

  • Rise Above Rejection   Chapter 31

31Carolyn's POV Allie and others gasped. Their expressions were funny. Naomi charged at me but the warden grasped her arm by the elbow and shoved her back."Behave! You're already in the wrong for breaking hostel rules. Do you want to be suspended for misbehaving in the principal's presence?" "But ma'am, she's lying. We didn't fight with each other!" Their voices became one as they began to accuse me of lying and creating a scene."Enough! If what she's saying is not true then you tell me what were you girls doing in her room after midnight? And be careful with your words, girls. Because it can get you in bigger trouble if you lie to me." The Principal eyed them sternly.Naomi gulped. She opened her mouth, knowing too well that anything she said would dig a deeper hole for her.In the end she apologized and lied, "I'm sorry, sir. I called my friends for a sleepover and one thing led to another... And we crossed our lines. We are sorry.""So you agree to bullying Carolyn for hangin

  • Rise Above Rejection   Chapter 30

30Carolyn's POV "What the hell is this? You brought backup to deal with me?" I snorted while deep down my stomach clenched. "Yeah, you should've just taken the bullying like everyone else," Naomi said coldly. "Now look at you. You've made this personal." She folded her hands as her lips lifted in a cruel grin. She had three girls behind her, standing like her bodyguard. One of them was Allie. She acted like she was strong and had her wolf. But I knew better and I chuckled. Naomi's eyes hardened, "What's making you chuckle, bítch?" "The fact that you're not as tough as you pretend to be." I smirked. "You are actually weaker than I thought... Because you need a backup to teach me a lesson."I cast a glance at the girls and my fear suddenly thawed. They were just making themselves look taller and confident with their chin held high. But in reality, they were uncertain. And I know why. Naomi is probably their leader. And they're scared because if I could overpower her, then I can o

  • Rise Above Rejection   Chapter 29

29"An hourglass!" It's beautiful but... What will I do with it? "Hourglass shows times in a fantastical way. Every grain of sand that falls down the hole is a grain that will never go back up. When you think about it profoundly, you realize it denotes every single second of time you lost. Time that will never come back. Time that you could have used to make yousselg yourself a better person." Anjelo paused as his eyes bore into mine. "I don't know what really went with you, but your scars tell that you had a difficult time. Difficult years, if I'm not wrong. Years that you will never get back. Years that you could have used to be better. So," He touched the hourglass and flipped it as all the send has gone down. I watched the sand falling down into the empty space again as Anjelo finished, "That time you lost is not going to come back. It's gone. It's in the past. Hence I'm giving this hourglass to you so it reminds you that the time that is ahead of you is very precious. Do not l

  • Rise Above Rejection   Chapter 28

28Carolyn's POVLife gets so better and smoother once you learn to make peace with every situation in your life. Once you learn how to handle it. Damn, I've been such a stupid all my life. I never fought back thinking that I'll be anguished more than I could handle. I was frightened of being hurt. But the truth is, the people in my pack continued to hurt me because I never fought back. I never raised my voice, and they treated my silence as an invitation to tear me apart. They walked in and destroyed everything because of my silence. Now that I think about it, I want to go back and scold my old self.... Because if I showed a little courage then my life would have been different. Maybe that's why the Moon Goddess gave me a second chance. She wanted me to learn that help doesn't come. Rather help exists within all of us. It's just a matter of realization, whether we want to be that help for ourselves or just wait like a loser thinking that we are weak.In this life I chose to fight

  • Rise Above Rejection   Chapter 27

27Carolyn's POVThough my eyes ran out of tears, my mind couldn't run away from all those memories of bullying. They continued to replay in my mind on a loop as I sat in that similar position Naomi saw me around sunrise. It was now afternoon. Monday of the last week before college's reopening. The noise outside the window was ear-splitting. Cars honked and whirred every other minute, indicating that the students were filling in now. They were happy to start a new phase of life whereas I... I, whose eighteenth birthday was today, who had two reasons to be happy was sitting in the room. Naomi shook off the cobwebs of slumber and opened her big eyes while stretching her arms. Suddenly she winced and caressed the swell of her breast. Her eyes squinted, and the way she was sitting there I knew she was talking to someone on the mind link. She had a beautiful smile as if she was complimented for being beautiful. Her gaze snapped towards me and her smile morphed into a scowl. "What are yo
